  • Golden Oldies

The Woodfin truck showed up a few minutes before kickoff. We were all astounded! Handshake is early! However, Señor Frog stepped out of the truck. A few minutes later, another Woodfin truck showed up. Expectations were fulfilled.

Speaking of Handshake, he was disappointed in my lack of creativity. That, plus a desire to relive my youth when I was only 69, we repeated a some golden oldies.

  • Party of 5

Five faithful veteran PAX posting in perfect March weather for a HD beatdown. We did:

COP: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Don Qs, Ukrainian Soldiers, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Scorpion kicks. Mosey over to covered end of school: Alternate between bear crawl and Lunges with 5 HRMs and 10 Squats at change overs. Mosey over to PES pullup bars: 4 rounds of 7 Pullups and WWIIs.

4 Corners on PES field with 20 HRMs, 25 Flutterkicks, 30 Jump Squats, 35 Carolina Dry Docks.

Mosey over to QMS track: 10 Step ups, 20 Diips, 40 Bench kicks. Repeato +5 reps each. Per PAX request over to Jerkin Gym: 4 sets of 7 Jerkins. Finish with few rounds up and down Heartbreak hill with burpees at the top. 2 min of mary back at Flag and YHC took us out.

NMS: Small but strong pax at HBR. Always good to Q with a small but strong group, no 10 counts or waiting around for the 6, just consistent movement.

No real barbs between Handshake and Atilla, besides the flatulence kind. The ladies workout group was getting setup as we blew past them after knocking out our pullups. PAX age range was quite narrow between 39 and 47.

  • No Hairy Monster Sighting

Despite Handshake’s desire to make this a male stripper led workout, a noble PAX assembled for full-body beat-down.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • Dead man hang
      • Merkins
      • LBC
    • Mosey to the parking lot for a burpee march – one burpee per parking space across the parking lot following by 15 WWII sit-ups and 15 APD; rinse and repeat back across

    • Mosey to the jerkin gym – 8 reps 4x
    • Mosey to the Heartbreak hill for a Dora
      • 100 merkins
      • 200 squats
      • 300 LBC
      • Bernie Sanders up the hill and run back down
    • Cool down run on the track
    • COT with YHC taking us out

CUSAP coming up at Curahee on May 6th.  Talk to Gypsy.  It is co-ed. It is a CUSAP.

Great work by the PAX today.  Thanks for putting up with YHC’s slower pace.  Handshake started the workout with discussing potential male stripper names, completely on character. We went down the path of potential questionable stripper moves, with 5:30 am striking at just the right time. Apologies to Handshake that he did not get lay witness to the hairy monster as he hoped.  Maybe you can live your dreams on another day.

Prayers up for Gypsy’s cousins in NICU.  God is good all of the time!

  • Fat Tuesday

Nothing to see here..  just a bunch of pax doing some exercise while talking about Riding your Mom’s bike…. Clydesdales cuddling, Guys from West Virginia winning dunking contests Honeydo’s lunge form..
oh wait… that was all Handshake talking about stuff.

It was good to back out in the Gloom with the bootcamp brothers.  Not gonna lie, my runners arms have seen slim to no work in almost 6 months.. full focus on running has made me faster for running races, but i am far less fit than i was this time last year.  while i was struggling to complete Merkins and Pull ups the rest of the pax was bat flippin the work out today.  Great work by all.. I have lots of work to do to catch back up… and it all started today.

How does that saying go.. You can either start it one day or make today day one.

  • The 20th Time Is the Charm

It all started on Tuesday February, 14th, 2017 with a text message from Handshake to HoneyDo that he was disappointed in how his Valentine’s Day went and wanted to celebrate the next Tuesday Valentine’s Day with an epic beatdown at Quioccasin Middle School. They went in search of a Q worthy of such a beatdown and added Gypsy on February 15th, 2017, but he said he would be running in 2023. Then they tried Whitesnake on March 1st, 2017, but Whitesnake said he had February 14th, 2023 down on his calendar to develop new backblast ideas from 80s song lyrics. And on it went until February 13th, 2023 when HoneyDo added YHC to the text chain (the 20th) and asked for 45 minutes of Upright Alabama Prom Dates. Sure.

YHC started to brainstorm some ideas for a Q while packing that night, wrote a few things down, then ended up making stuff up along the way. Good thing Tryhard wasn’t there conducting Q evaluations.

    The Thang:

Mosey to that dark place in the corner for COP: SSHs x20 IC. Upright Alabama Prom Dates x4.5 IC. CCDs, Scorpion Kicks, Reverse Crunches, Helicopters IC.

Mosey to the covered side of the school for Sally: to the tune of Moby’s Flower, do a Merkin on “Bring Sally Up”, hold a 6-inches on “Bring Sally Down”.

Mosey back to the concession stand for a Triple Check: People’s Chair, Reverse Crunches, and the timer runs backwards up the hill and run back down.

Mosey to the track for a synchronized Triple Check: Dips and Star Jumps. The timer runs a lap or lunges in the opposite direction until the lead runner passes the halfway mark, and lunges back. PAX continues until the first timer returns and Al Gore for the six.

Mosey back to the flag for the COT.

Announcements: Lunch was at Firehouse Subs – hope it was great!

    NMS:

The lights came on during the 3rd rep of Upright APDs. Perhaps we were caught on camera. YHC was done at 2, anyway.

HBR proverb of the day: It’s harder if you do it right. That is, indeed, what she said.

  • 9 Alte Fürze

Attila and Handshake in a little toy shop
Buy a gun to shoot a balloon with the money they’ve got
Set them free at the break of dawn
‘Til one by one, the balloon was gone
Back at base, sparks in the software
Flash the message “Something’s out there”
    Floating in the summer sky
    9 Heartbreak studs go by
    (music break)

    9 benign Heartbreak studs
Warming up in the summer sky
    Panic bells, it’s red alert
There’s something here from somewhere else
The Global Warming springs to life
    Opens up Honeydo’s eye
    Focusing it on the sky
The 9 benign Heartbreak studs go by

    99 Decision Street
It is time for BLIMPS to meet
    To worry, worry, super scurry
Call the BLIMPS out in a hurry
This is what we’ve waited for
This is it boys, this is war
Whitesnake Q is on the line
As 9 benign Heartbreak studs run by

9 knights on the baseball field
    Ride super high-tech jet fighters
    Everyone’s a Merkin hero
    Everyone’s a Burpee Jerk
    With orders to identify
    WWIIs and classify
    Squatting in the summer sky
As 9 benign Heartbreak studs go by
    (music fades)

    99 dreams Handshake had
In every one, an Attila grunt
It’s all over, and he’s standing pretty
In this dust that was a city
If he could find a souvenir
Just to prove he was here
    And then Attilla’s busting ass
He thinks of Handshake, and let’s another one go

  • Better Late than Never

Another week of build-up for what was expected to be a ground and pound, never leave the parking lot, 10 minutes of burpees Q.  Much hype from Honeydo, and no show, but for 11 noble warriors, here is what they endured:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • Suzanne Somers
      • Merkins
      • LBC
    • Mosey to the black top behind the school for 4 corners with 10, 15, 20 & 25 reps for the following:
      • HRM
      • WWII sit-ups
      • Monkey humpers
      • 2x flutter kicks
    • Mosey to the Heartbreak hill for an 11 with H2H and Chuck Norris merkins (that is 10 runs up and down the hill)
    • Mosey to the jerkin gym for 4x 8 reps of jerkins
    • Cool down run on the track
    • Bernie Sanders up the incline to the parking lot for COT with YHC taking us out

Great work from the PAX today.  What we learned….Roger Roger can land a plane with one wing, one computers, ½ its engines in the snow on a sandy, short runway.  Not quite, but yeah, he is a stud at the helm.  T-claps for keeping folks safe during a major mechanical issue.   Pinto will celebrate his 50th as a man of the people skiing in Switzerland.  Pigskin is back, and he is about to be as good as new.  We are all just living in his world.   Great to see him overcoming injury, and good to know the rest of us are just soft in comparison. God is good all

  • Who Needs Rest

7 showed up on a cold morning. Attila was not feeling well, so YHC had to try to fill his big shoes. When unsure, YHC asked himself: “What would Attila do?” After a warm up, we started with Curb Crawl up to 5 Merkins and down to one. After that, YHC offered choice between dry asphalt and wet field, the pack voted for the field. So, we did Beast on the field with LBCs, Squats, Hand-Release Merkins, Flutters, Jump-Squats, and Burpies. YHC tried to slow down and asked folks to count, but count went so fast, that Q had no choice but continue. We did a loop around the track. Then, three rounds of eight Jerkins. After that ran to the hill and did Noah’s Arc with five WWII at the top: Bear Crawl, Polar Bear Crawl, Bunny Hops, Bernie, Cheetah. Still more time on the clock. Ran to a wall and did two rounds of Wall Sits, ten Chicken Peckers, and fifteen Donkey Kicks. Almost time, so ran to the flag and held legs 6-inches from the ground for count of 60. What a great way to start your day!

  • Predictions worthy of FOMC appreciation

The perfect number small PAX count assembled at HBR with an assurance of a rain-free beatdown courtesy of YHC. We’ll leave it to the meteorologists to check the accuracy of the Qs claims but we did:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, IPs, Merkins, LBCs, Scorpion Kicks.

Mosey over to the properly illuminated PES front lot for a triple check: HRMs, Heels2Heaven, & Run the loop. Mosey to side lot for rotating Donkey kick & Peoples chair line. Over to Pullup station: 4 rounds of 8 Pullups & WWIIs. 3 Rounds of 25 PLTs.

Over to benches for some challenging math: 10 Derkins & 20 Benchkicks. 4 rounds while increasing each by half of the original count (very straightforward). Finish with a partner bear crawl across the blacktop and 2 min of Mary at end. Atilla took us out.

NMS: Sometimes life is a paradox; if you want to lose weight order a Clydesdales F3 shirt. That is sure to get you under 200 lbs as Atilla can attest. Lighthouse showed up in fully absorbent cotton attire confident in the No rain call that YHC texted out yesterday afternoon. Whitesnake arrived ready to post in -48 degree temps rather than the comfortable 48 degree temps we had. Maybe he’s trying to sweat off some extra lbs.

Offshore struggled with the multi-variable algebra required to complete the Benchkicks & Derkins escalator. Between Lighthouse and him with 2 PhDs in mathematic related fields they were able to finish. We were missing one of our HBR mainstays this morning, apparently the pull of the fartsack was too strong.

  • Walk-A-bout

Clock hit and ten gloom warriors braved the 26 degree warm and sunny beatdown that went a little like hey Q is open. “I’ll take it”

Mosey off campus to find ourselves with a little COP in Fargo. Felt that cold but we quickly Warmed up:

    25x SSH

    10x Don Q

    10x merkin

    10x copperhead squats

    20x Freddy mercuries

Mosey to top of Fargo to do an alley kat:

Run the alley back and forth and do the sequence of:

    10 merkins 20 plank jacks

    10 merkins 25 LBCs

    10 merkins 20 squats

    10 merkins 20 flutters

    Mosey around Einstein and do

    10 merkins 10 2count ball dippers

    10 merkins 20 lbc.

    Mosey up around the alley:

10 merkins mid way 50 LBCs

    10 merkins and 20 WW2s

Mosey back to campus where we found two additional pax. We headed up to the back wall and proceeded to partner up.

Peoples chair air press timer runs x 2

    Squats timer runs switch

    Merkins timer runs switch

Mosey back to flag for stretch-o-Rama

Some announcements: I’m trying to remember Post in comments gents! Sorry it’s late and the gloom comes early.
