  • Five for 5:30

A smaller than normal group assembled at the designated time to begin their adventure. Here’s what transpired:

Mosey to the front of the school for COP – SSH, Don Q’s, arm circles, imperial walkers, LBCs and merkins.

Next, mosey around the school and relish the dry fields of Heartbreak. A quick audible from the plan to use the baseball field. Instead, we went to the football field and did the following:

-Polar bear 10 yards, 10 burpees, polar bear another 10 yards, 20 merkins, polar bear another 10 yards, 30 reverse crunches, run to the end zone and 40 2 count flutters. Repeato.

Then we moseyed to the building for wall sits, combined with alternating donkey kicks and balls to the wall.

Next, over to the finally dry (mostly) jerkin gym for 3 sets.

Then a triple check at the ridge – jump squats and reverse crunches, and run to the top.

Then an indigenous run, mixed in with some karaoke and Bernie Sanders. Then AMPRAP pull ups and then a few springs (the Q was making this up as he was going). Finally, return to the flag for a little Mary.

Numberama, Nameorama, and Handshake? took us out. (The Q had to duck out before closing ceremonies to drive his daughter to marching band practice). Thanks to those PAX who finished off the others.

  • Detour

7 Stallions fought of the wet weather and the fart sack for a bright and sunny Heartbreak Ridge beatdown courtesy of YHC. While the mumble chatter swung from a Gridiron Beast to vaccinations and the fallout, in came Handshake on two wheels just as the clock hit “go time.”

Mosey to the PES teacher’s lot, on the line for a dynamic COP warm-up

3 MOM, 5 merkins until the end time.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

    Moleskin

Strong work today by the PAX. YHC tried to keep folks movin’ and dry to fight off the cold wet chill that struck overnight. Appreciate sticking around after YHC had to detour briefly. Can continue to confirm “uneasy stomach” as a side effect of the one and done from Johnson and Johnson.

3rd F this evening. Corned Beef has the Q.

Happy Hour next week on the 24th. See other BBs for details.

Thankful for the opportunity to lead today. Have a great day, Fellas!

  • Tuesday Gridiron

Warmer days are ahead.  For today, it was dry, which was a welcomed change.  As we see an end to winter coming, 8 noble warriors assembled at Heartbreak Ridge.  Iron sharpened iron, and here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • Cherry pickers
      • Arm circles – forwards/backwards
      • Helicopters
      • Suzanne Somers
      • Scorpion Kicks
      • Merkins
      • LBC
    • Mosey to the parking lot for a burpee march – 1 burpee for each parking space followed by a chaser of 20 WWII sit-ups (repeat 3x)
    • Curb crawl ladder – up to 7 merkins and then back down
    • APDs
    • AMRAP pull-ups x2 – PAX does one round of side lunges and another round of squats while each man hits the pull-up bars
    • Mosey to the football field for a mini-Michigan
    • Mosey back to the parking lot for COT with YHC taking us out

Welcome to a Gridiron Tuesday. Hard to say if Gypsy and Handshake could handle that.  Lots of mumble-chatter and frivolity from those 2 knuckleheads as we commenced.  Funny how 50+ burpees can quiet that.  Solid work from the PAX today.  YHC was grateful to lead these warriors in a full body workout.  See you later this week.

God is good all of the time!

  • Another tardy Keydet

8 strong found a frost-free HBR. 7 were there on time and unable to lose Handshake as he came in hot on our mosey to the COP. We did:

COP: Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, Freddy Mercurys, Merkins.

Mosey over to PES front for Dora 123: 100 V-Ups, 200 Merkins, 300 Jump Squats. Head on over to the blacktop behind QMS: 10 HRMs each basketball hoop with bear crawl in between. 6 hoops in total.

Grab a spot on DK wall: 40 Donkey kicks & 50 LBCs. Then down to Coupon depository for 3 rounds of: 15 Block Pullovers & 30 Bench kicks. Mosey across football field (unless you’re Ronnie) then 2 min of Mary. Gypsy took us out.

Announcements: 3rd F tonight at 8:00. YHC has the Q. Prayers for kids returning to in-person school. Still time to sign up for the March challenge along with Gypsy and other F3 PAX around the country. See Slack for both.

NMS: Apparently promptness is optional at “The Institute” as Handshake did his best Probation impersonation as this morning’s LIFO. We tried to duck in to the blockyard but he spotted us easily for the COP. Good to have Gypsy back in the Gloom at HBR. Some questioned the Q’s call of 60 HRMs and bear crawl. YHC wanted to get the PAX ample merkin reps this AM. No dangerous frost on the pavement but fields were still plenty soggy.

Mumblechatter after the beatdown great. Gypsy has shed his inner Carolinian self with a 2nd working headlight and we might need to have a charity event to help Bacon Bits buy a new wardrobe with all the weight he has lost.

  • Solid surfaces are not your friend.

11 men launched with the hopes of keeping dry and this is what transpired

Mosey around the track to the far side of the field, enter the field for COP of misc. exercises. It was then determined that running on the field with Blocks was not advisable *denial number 1*

Mosey down to Heartbreak, closer to the school for the normally drier area. Too damn sloppy. *denial number 2*

Mosey up the the raised field for a semi-sloppy/frozen Four Corners. Compounding Four Corners with Merkins, Squats, LBC’s, and SSH’s, then descending.

Mosey to the Tennis Courts, complete icy mess. *denial number 3*

Mosey up to Pemberton Elementary and shuffle across the parking lot and the back asphalt to the covered Bus Loop.

Buss Loop Partner work: P1 runs to the far end while P2 does and exercise. Rotate and work one pole back each round to get to the stop.

Mosey back to the front of Quioccasin Middle, watch Ronnie run and pounce onto frozen Asphalt and almost kill himself.

Touch a tree, 2 rounds: P1 touches 10 trees P2 does Dips, rotate. Second round P1 touches 5 tress P2 Incline Merkins.

Mosey back to the flag for a quick ring of fire and it was 0615.

NMS – YHC had a couple things planned but between black ice and wet ground it was a day of audibles. YHC appreciates the Pax’s tolerance of a lot of improv. The quote of the day was, “this is how you melt the muffins off.” YHC isn’t sure how many times Gomer said it, but it was more than 3 and less than 6 times. Thank you for to the Pax for coming out to celebrate YHC’s 37th year.

  • early confusion

It started with 5 penalty burpees when YHC welcomed 9 strong PAX to Hoedown, when we were in fact posted at Heartbreak Ridge. Perhaps inaccurate weather apps or a long absence from the Ridge prompted the slip-up. Either way, here’s how it went:

COP – 20 SSH, 10 DQ, 10 Crabcakes, 10 Reverse Crabcakes*, 10 Merkins. Mosey to the back of the truck to grab coupons; Ronnie and GP got the special ones. Mosey to the back bus loop.

Coupon Dora: 100 deep Merkins, 150 crusher curls (squeeze ends instead of normal coupon grip), 200 coupon squats; timer runs around the filling station.

Unbreakable overhead coupon carry all the way along the loading area fence.

Move the coupon game: all coupons at the far end of the bus loading area, goal is to relocate all coupons to home base. PAX performs 20x of LBC, FK or jump squats at home base prior to running to move a single coupon 3 poles closer to base.

Native American coupon carry back to the truck

We finished the morning up with a Heartbreak classic – 2x over under on the inclined walkway. Crawl bear up the walkway and rail crawl down.

Numberama, namerama, announcements (Handshake b-day next Tuesday = special Heartbreak Ridge Q) and YHC took us out.

Solid work by all and a pleasure to be back at the Ridge after so many Spider Run Tuesdays. A couple highlights worth noting 1) reverse crab cakes were the fan favorite COP activity* 2) always interesting when a police officer shows up to top off the cruiser and finds 9 friendly guys in dark clothing, with blocks, by a school, repeatedly running towards him in the gloom. Until next time – GP

  • People’s Chair 3.25

    The thang:

Quick mosey over to the little people’s school or what is called pemberton elementary for a well lit Warmarama:

    Mosey to COP #1

COP # 1 went something like this:

Partner up- one partner runs the well lit loop at Pemberton elementary while partner 2 does 100 merkins switching each lap

round 2 was 200 box jumps on the stairs while partner runs the loop

Round 3 was 300 plank jacks while partner runs the loop

Mosey to COP #2 which took us to the large blacktop behind the middle school for a little people’s chair action

    Let’s Mosey to COP # 3

The holding pattern Roger Roger classic around bus loop at the middle school.

3 laps of an indigenous people’s run

Final leg Bernie sanders the bus loop for one length and back to the flag!

Solid work on a Sunny and 70 degree day! Thanks for hanging in there Pax SYITG! We completed 3.25 miles on this one!

  • Wet February it is

8 studs saw the snow and winds from the fartsack but posted anyway. A reluctant Q turned into a Hot Potato and off we went once Probation found us:

COP: Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Flutterkicks. Pass to Handshake who kept the COP going with more mary. Then split up for Quad check: HRMs, Flutterkicks, & run length of fence up & bernie back. 3 Rounds.

Pass to Pinto: Polar bear the length of the building, stopping at every pole.

Over to the brick courtyard for another quad check: Donkey Kicks, Wall Sit, Burpees, & run. Pass Q to Tater: back to covered section for more Mary & some burpees thrown in. Mosey back to Flag. YHC took us out.

NMS – With Dry January done some PAX embraced the Wet February last night and weren’t 100%. No regrets as posting in the snow is always a blast. With 8 PAX nobody wanted to serve up a Dora and Handshake’s Quad check instructions were confusing enough that by the last round the PAX had it figured out.

Probation pulled in LIFO, on brand, and while the PAX moved around to make him work he found us not too far in. Pinto led us into the never before used brick courtyard, where there is ample wallspace to choose from. Bacon Bits was dying for the Q to be passed to him but we ran out of time. Hopefully he’ll get the Q passed to him soon and this doesn’t turn into another #SplinterSituation…

  • A window of dryness

7 eager gents arrived for what was promised to be a monsoon event at Heartbreak. Instead, it was a dry, rather civilized 38 degrees. Here’s what went down:

Mosey to the front of the school for some SSH, Russian Soldiers, Arm circles, Merkins, and hill billies.

Next, head to the parking lot for a BEAST. Burpees, copperhead squats, merkins, monkey humpers, SSH and ___Squats (can’t recall the name – Attila’s request).

Mosey to the back of the elementary school and break up into two teams. First team does catch me if you can with 10 merkins (2 rounds). The other team was sent for AMRAP pull ups and dips. Then the teams switched exercises.

Head to the driest part of Heartbreak, an uphill paved slope, for 5 minutes of Mary so we could catch our breath.

Then, the world’s most unorganized triple check. It was supposed to be wall sits, donkey kicks and running to the fence. What ensued was something else. After a few rounds, I put the triple check out of its misery, and we headed back to the flag for some final SSH to run out the clock.

Announcement: HH at Kindred Spirit on 2/1/21 to celebrate end of dry January.

Numberama, nameorama and Handshake took us out.

I wore my waterproof hiking shoes and brought a rain jacket after the hype on the pre-game texts. All for not. I believe we managed to stay completely dry above the ankles. See you next time.

  • Not Iron Pax, Frozen Pax

Eight strong took on the gloom to see what a COVID-free YHC beatdown would look like. Here is what was served up:

COP: SSH, Russian Soldiers, Freddy Mercurys, Merkins, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey down to coupon drop zone and over to middle of field for Frozen PAX.

Loop of: Start from center of field, run to benches – 10 Derkins. Run to concession stand – 20 Donkey Kicks. Run to other benches – 30 Bench Kicks. Back to middle of field and grab coupon – 40 Swings. That’s one round. Repeato but increase reps at each station by 5. Keep going for 25 minutes. Totals were 100 Derkins, 150 Donkey Kicks, 200 Benchkicks, 250 Swings.

As PAX finished at 25 minutes – 5o Block presses. Deposit coupons back then return to field – Sprints, bear crawls, and backwards run. Back to flag for 2 min of Mary.

NMS – Nice to have a solid 8 out this morning. YHC wanted to a circuit timed beatdown with coupons. PAX dominated it with Handshake and Lighthouse setting the pace. All PAX completed 5 rounds around the same time as the Coupon Swings slowed down the faster PAX. At the start some PAX mentioned that Iron PAX workouts were for September not January. Bacon Bits put in solid work and continues to get stronger. This Frozen PAX circuit will make an appearance again this winter.

Ronnie created a slight breach of etiquette in the COT by having the numberama go to the right rather than left. This took some PAX to grasp.

Prayers for the country and patience this week.
