  • Heartbreak Monsoon

3 fools warriors escaped the dry, warm comforts of the fart sack for another edition of Heartbreak Ridge, this time with some added moisture. While it appeared a potential FNG sat safely in his Camry….. the clock struck 5:30 and the unnamed bystander did not flinch. The trio set off….. to the Bus Loop.

    Exercise I – Greasy Poles

utilizing the bus extended bus loop steel awning, PAX moseys to the end of the run, stops at each pole (confirmed 21 count of poles) and performs 3 merkins, returns with one Lt. Dan at each stop.

Reminders: Buy your F3 shirts (including hoodie options) by COB tomorrow. See DTH with any Qs.

Appreciate battling the elements this morning, Gentlemen. Felt like we wore weighted vests the second half of this am. Wonder if the rusty cage and heartbreak hill will have dried by next week?

  • What is Miserable Jumprope?

6 PAX came out wondering if Q sheet was in fact open. With no official Q at 5:30 we set off to end of track for COP and a Hot potato Q:

COP (Honeydo): Miserable Jumprope (aka Invisible Jumprope), Miserable Burpees, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks. Pass Q to Lighthouse, which turned out to be big mistake:

Lighthouse Beast – Mini beast with way worse numbers: Round 1- Merkins 20 per stop. Round 2- LBCs 20. Round 3 – 5 Burpees. Pass Q to Handshake, off to Jerkin Gym: 3 sets of 10 Jerkins. Then over to Heartbreak Hill:

Run up, 15 WWIIs, back down then 1 Burpee. Repeat 5 times. Pass Q to Atilla – Over to bleachers for 3 rounds of: 25 Dips & 25 Benchkicks. Then up to parking lot for Triple check of: People’s chair, American Hammers & run.

    Atilla took us out.

NMS – Nothing like creating new exercises when PAX mishears the Qs instructions. Now YHC has to think of what miserable Jumprope would really entail. Some confusion at the start as Wojo was on the Q sheet yesterday at some point but it was blank at 5:15 so technically not a no-show. PAX did learn a lesson as Lighthouse is NOT messing around. A modified beast with 120 merkins in round 1 then burpees. ouch.

Jerkin Gym was the iciest YHC can remember and the benchkicks on the frozen bleachers almost led to a case of frostbitten ass cheeks. Great to have P-Trap back out at HBR, and on his birthday, aye! Great way to start off your 35th year.

  • HP at HBR

A Nifty nine PAX closed out Nineteen in Hot Potato fashion at Heartbreak Ridge. Several Wahoo PAX were tired from the late finish of the Orange bowl but needed a last 2019 Big Data point. Here’s how it went down:

COP: Honeydo – SSH, Don Qs, Arm circles, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Hand to Handshake:

Mosey to “Danger Zone” for Triple check – Run loop of PES lot, Merkins, & Kimchi Twists. Hand Q to Seymour- Mosey to Honeysuckle hill for 6 rounds of Bear Crawl up & run down. Hand off to Mr Holland, down to track for shortened Track beast: 1st lap Merkins, 2nd Lap Merkins + WWIIS, 3rd Lap – Merkins, WWIIs, & Burpees (ouch). Attila took us back to flag for 75 secons of mary & COT.

NMS – Good final beatdown of the decade at HBR. Nice to have 9 strong out. YHC has taken the liberty of naming the corner section of PES as the “Danger Zone” with the giant exposed propane tank and low hanging powerlines. Hitchhiker’s Kimchi Twists, after debuting at Hoedown yesterday, made their way to HBR. Will they spread to SOJ and Daville next? Guess we’ll see in 2020.

Mr. Holland pushed the PAX on the 3rd round of the Track Beast with Burpees. Those 3 Laps ate up almost 20 minutes. Good thing Splinter was not here as Mr Holland was not up for sharing the potato.

Squeaker and LinkedIn made the rest of the PAX look slow as usual, but still good to have them out. Bodos drove past Spider Run to get a full body beatdown, always welcome out at F3RVAs brightest AO.

CONVERGENCE tomorrow at The Forge 7:00. Let’s have so many PAX there that DTH cannot try and spring his Cabers on us.

  • Caution: Benches freeze before road

A Naugty Nine hoped to earn their way onto the Nice list with some Christmas Eve work at HBR. The PAX were rewarded with an early Xmas gift from the kindhearted Q with:

COP- Invisible Jumprope, Hairy Rocketts, Don Qs, Merkins, Arm Circles, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Head to football field for proper warm-up:

Sprint across field, jog back. Bear Crawl across then jog back. Backwards run across.

Mosey to Benches: YHC called for 3 sets of Box Jumps & Derkins, but apparently some PAX are keen on that “smile without missing teeth” look and with Benches covered in ICE an audible was called. Off to Heartbreak Hill:

10 Merkins at botton, run up, 10 V-Ups up top. Repeato increasing reps to 15 then 20. Then off to big field: Wheelbarrow across alternating PAX.

Over to DK wall for Triple check: Donkey Kicks, WWIIs, & run blacktop. Head back down to Jerkin Gym – 4 Sets of 8. Back to football field for some minute burpees: 7 in a minute, increase by 1 up to 10 per minute. Back to flag for some Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS – 5:29 we had 4 PAX and then quickly swelled to 9 as we made our way to the COP. Seymour was able to find us despite the Qs efforts to hide us. The benches really were a sheet of ice and YHC was glad to call of Box Jumps, heck even Derkins on them could be dangerous.

Good to have some non-HBR regulars out this morning. Kubota is stamping his winter break hall pass and good to have Mr Holland back out in the west end. YHC called the Bear Crawl to slow down LinkedIn only to see him lap us on the bear crawl. Someone find out what his kryptonite exercise is quick.

    Merry Christmas F3RVA!

  • Did you say Farmer or Foreman Ed?

7 mighty PAX decided to avoid the 12 days of Christmas and head to Quioccasin MS for a beatdown. We even had a visitor from somewhere between Raleigh and Charlotte (Cary NC wherever that is).

The program went like this: Lap around the track, 25 SSH, 10 DQs, 10 R Soldiers, 15 ACs (front and back) and 25 FMs. Mosey to covered alcove at side of school.

Exercise 1: 2 Burpees at each pole – 42 burpees in total

Exercise 2: Plank position with last person leapfrogging the other PAX. Keep going until we reach the other side of the alcove. For some reason this exercise cause a bunch of angry mumble chatter. Mosey to other side of school.

Exercise 3: Together do 30 seconds of balls to the wall, 30 seconds of chicken peckers and 30 seconds of dips. Mosey to track.

Exercise 4: Four corners non-additive with swamp derkins (the bleacher area did not drain well), jump squats, monkey humpers and 2 count flutter kicks.

Exercise 5: Go to “THE HILL” and each partner wheelbarrows up the hill. This one got some Philadelphia Eagle fan love for sure.

Exercise 6: Share 100 PLTs. Mosey to parking lot and close with a round of mary (merkins).

No notable announcements and closed in prayer.

Even though the visitor from down south butchered my name (good having you visit Term Paper), I enjoyed leading the PAX and hope everyone is not stressing out over all the prep for the big day next week.

    Fireman Ed out.

  • Burpee Love

No Q at 10 pm last night and YHC was still at the office.  Sign up for Q and beat myself down out of anger at the current boss.  Subsequent apologies to the PAX.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • 30 SSH
      • 15 IW
      • 15 DQ
      • 15 Helicopters
      • 20 merkins
      • 80 LBC
      • 40 APD
    • Mosey to the bus loop for 10 minutes of burpees
    • Mosey to the black top for 4 corners with 10, 15, 20 & 25 escalating reps at each corner, exercises included
      • HRM
      • WWII sit-ups
      • Crab cakes
      • Monkey humpers
    • Mosey to the track for intervals, 30 seconds on, 30 second mosey, rinse and repeat until clock expired
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Today we asked the ultimate question for HBR regulars, which is worse – 10 minutes of burpees or the lucky horseshoe? YHC can at least testify that the burpees do not last the full workout.

Garbage Plate and Squeaker are freaking gazelles.  They can fly on the track.  Iron sharpens iron.  Handshake led the charge on burpees and 4 corners…it is good to be young and that is why you get hate in the COT.  T-claps to Cobalt on a strong effort, and thankful for Lighthouse being a faithful poster.  Great start to the day.  Time for a nap and caffeine.

God is good all of the time!

  • 5 for 5

It was a super clear, crisp morning for a Heartbreak Ridge extravaganza. 5 men posted for a 5 station experiment. Here’s how it went down:

Warmup: 15x SSH, 10x arm circles, 10x DQ, 10x Russian soldiers, 15x LBC, 10x scorpion kicks then mosey to the front of the ES.

5 stations, 5 min each station, partner up; alternate ascending exercises 2,4,6,8… until timer sounds. Hold a specified position when not exercising.

Station 1 – at front of ES; burpees + Al Gore

Station 2 – tennis courts; jump squats + plank

Station 3 – back lot wall; hand release merkins + peoples chair

Station 4 – field house; lunges + balls to wall

Station 5 – bleachers on the hill; side hip dips + bleacher holds

Two Bernies up the hill to wrap up. Numberama, namerama, no announcements and YHC took us out.

Moleskine: Lots of mumblechatter + movement between stations made the morning pass quickly. Thanks to the PAX for humoring YHC with a trial workout format which seemed to flow well. 5 minutes seemed to be the right amount at each stop, YHC didn’t hear many counts get into the 20’s. At station 4 there was some suggestion of modifying balls to the wall for a more attainable movement; ultimately we decided to modifying balls was not a good option for anyone. Enjoy the day gentlemen.

  • Hot Potato Ridge

4 valiant gentleman descended on Heartbreak Ridge to find again that there is no Q. There seems to be a pattern here which needs to be broken soon.

COP by Fireman Ed: Lap around the track, 10 Don Quixotes, 10 Arm circles, 15 2 count mountain climbers and 10 merkins

First Exercise: Take 5 benches. do 5 dips, then up to 25 dips by the 5th bench

Baton is passed to Ronnie: Mosey to front of school – do 5 merkins, crab walk to other side do 4 merkins, bear crawl to other side, and so forth down to 1 merkin.

Go to tables, Do 5 box jumps to seating benches, 5 burpees. I may have forgotten something here.

Mosey to side of school and do a pole relay. while one pax is doing pole leg lifts, the other three are holding 3 inches, We did that relay for most of the side of the school. Baton passed to Fireman.

Doras with 100 donkey kicks, 200 jump squats and 300 2 count flutter kicks. Baton passed back to Squeaker.

Mosey to chin up area. Pax 1 did 6 chin ups, Pax 2 did dips on the somewhat high bar, Pax 3 did ass to grass squats and PAX 4 did elbow to leg plank.

Baton passed back to Fireman who led in mountain climbers, 2 rounds of merkin mary and 5 OYO burpees.

Announcements: TYA is leading Turkey Day convergence at Mary at 6 a.m. (thanks for letting us sleep in:) and Friday at 7 at Forest Hill Park is the CSUP (CSOP).

Even though it was a hot potato, thanks to God for giving us the health to get out there and better ourselves.

  • Caravan of cars at HBR

An even dozen, including 1 visitor, arrived at varying times to Heartbreak Ridge on a gorgeous morning. Again no Q so Handshake started us off:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Hairy Rocketts (horizonal version) aka inverted upside down Scorpion kicks. Back to main lot for: Quad Check – 1) B2tW, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Run lot & back. Head down to Jerkin Gym: 3 Sets of 10 Jerkins. Pass Q to Offshore:

Over to Heartbreak hill – Triple check of Merkins, WWIIs, Bernie Sanders up hill.

Hand Q to Garbage Plate, 1 lap of Indian Run then over to ramp: Crawl Bear up hill, bar shimmy down. 2 times. Q over to Honeydo: 3 sets of PLTs, back to flag for some Pickle Pounders. YHC took us out.

NMS – Today was textbook Hot Potato where PAX were pushed for the full 45 min. Quad check got us going from Handshake then other Qs never let up. Good to have Stump Jumper back visiting RVA. He debated whether on posting at Spider Run or HBR but in the end he gave us the perfect dozen number to work with. P-Trap, the married version, was back out having resting his shoulder injury. No clue whether the shoulder injury occurred on the Honeymoon or not, hence the need for more Pickle Pounder practice.

Fireman Ed was extra mouthy today, with his JETS drubbing on the Skins still on his mind. Low, low times for those who still HTTR. Lighthouse is officially a HBR regular now as YHC can’t remember a week he wasn’t there. Merkin count estimated in the 180-200 range based on Quad & Triple check inclusions. Your mileage may vary.

  • A Rare Hot Potato at HBR

6 PAX were looking around at 5:30 perplexed by two unusual things: an open Q slot at Heartbreak Ridge and 65 degree weather on a morning where it was supposed to be snowing. Atilla took the reins and off we went:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Hillbillies, HRMs, APDs, Helicopters. Mosey over to tennis courts: 3 rounds of Wheelbarrow to net, 10 Derkins each man. Pass Q to Handshake, who took us down to football field for a “Bea” or abbreviated beast of: Merkins, WWIIs, and Burpees. Q passed to Lighthouse: Head over to Jerkin Gym- fake, stop at end of field & partner up: 1 man runs lap while other does LBCs. 3 Laps.

Q passed to Honeydo – 1 minute left so back to flag & some Heels2Heaven.

NMS YHC knew the Q sheet was open last night but assumed some generous PAX member would step up. Instead we “Batteau’ed” it up with a Hot Potato. Atilla got us going. Handshake made the pax call out Burpees on the 3rd round. Lighthouse seems to like running by his short Q portion, pax be warned. Good to have Seymour back out, apparently boxing is a young non-professional man’s sport…

Squeeker is fast, that is all.
