  • Farewell (for now) to HB Hill

A baker’s dozen turned out on a cold morning to embrace the HRB hill one last time as construction is about to commence.  Here is how it went down:

      • Ukrainian soldiers
      • IW
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • DMH
      • Merkins
      • LBC
      • APD
    • A  lot of moseying trying to find a break in the fence line, with Offshore finally spotting an opening
    • Arch loader on the hill with 15 HRM/15 WWII sit-ups after each ascent
      • Bear crawl
      • Crab walk
      • Bunny hop
      • Duck walk

    • Mary
      • Side crunches
      • WWI crunches
      • FM
    • COT with YHC taking us outj

Construction is about to commence on the new QMS.  One last hill workout before the barrier is impenetrable.  Whitesnake will have to find some other way to celebrate the great Christmas movie of Die Hard as Nakatomi Plaza will be baracaded.

Convergence next Thursday at 7 am at Mary.

Great work from the PAX.  Prayers up for those in need.  God is good all of the time!

  • Pounding in the cold

15 of Westhoe’s greatest braved this cold windy Tuesday morning and tried to keep warm with a lot of movement. This including 3 teenagers in shorts: Joey Chesnutt, Mariner and Handshake. According to Handshake’s rock hard nipples, we did something like the following:

13 of us went to the football field at 5:30 and soon were joined by Fudd and Full House. We did some warmups of SSH, Uranian Soldiers, Copperhead Squats, LBCs, WW2, Merkins and maybe some other stuff.

We then went for a preview of everyone’s favorite Christmas Movie Die Hard and hit the Ridge. We did 2 sets of exercises at the bottom, ran to the top and did SSH until the six reached the top. Then we went back down for some more. 1st set was 20 HRM and 20 WW2, 2nd was 20 Merkins and 20 Heals, 3rd was 20 Wide Merkins, 20 Dollies, 4th was 20 Chuck Norris and 20 Rosalitas and the 5th was ten burpees. The hill won’t fully transform into Nakatomi Plaza until late December.

We walked down the hill one last time and then moseyed back to the football field. There we did my favorite Double Quarter Pounder. First set was 25 HRM at the 25, 50 LBC at the 50, 75 single count Mountain Climbers and 100 SSH, bernie back to the goal line each time. Second set was 25 Merkins, 50 Hammers, 75 Squats and 100 single count Freddies.

With a little time left, we hit the benches and did a Lindsey of 30 dips/10 bench kicks, to 20/20 and then 10/30. Then back to the flag for some Mary of LBC, Suzanne Sommers and WW2. 1.2 miles today which is about average for this AO.

Announcements: The Bridge this Saturday with EF Hutton, Thanksgiving at Mary Mumford. Joey’s hotdogs for lunch today at noon.

Big thanks to all who served and currently serving. Prayers to the Correll family and all those fighting cancer.

“Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone.” But I am grateful that is not the case with this group.

My Fellow Americans, I Pigskin, do solemnly swear that I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL! And furthermore, I have never been a professional and WILL NEVER BE A PROFESSIONAL! COT

In the 1960s and 1970s, we had disputes over Civil Rights and the Vietnam War. Some of the infamous events of that time included the assassinations of President Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., Robert Kennedy and the assassination attempt on George Wallace (which left him crippled for the rest of his life), the murder of several civil right workers, the Kent State shooting, Jackson State shooting, South Carolina State shooting, the riots in Harlem, Watts, Newark and Detroit and the Watergate scandal which ended with the only resignation of a president in the country’s history.

In short, our current controversies are regrettable but not unprecedented.

Lord, give us the patience and kindness to listen and understand each other; and when necessary, agree to disagree in peace.

  • Krav Maga tomorrow

13 Heartbreakers showed up to either see if Gomer was going to set a record for the fewest steps in a workout (alas not today) -or- how many APDs were practiced last night (YHC worked hip rotations after). According to the shadow Krav Maga fighter that Gomer scared off (he said he’s coming tomorrow), this is what went down more or less.

Attila took us out. Prayers for those seeking jobs, working through challenges, health for PAX and family members.

NMS – Whitesnake was out so YHC had to jump on a Q. YHC was especially motivated by Gold Digger counting the “right way”. This workout is a lot on chest and shoulders but we need more as we age to over power the Dad belly.

    Thanks for letting me lead!

    Get some!

  • Who let the dogs out?

16 gathered for this weeks Heartbreak Ridge, offsite edition.

Mosey down from Heartbreak to Quioccasin and left on Westridge and then left on Camrose. Triple Checks leading up Camrose. Every round we moved further up the road with a goal of reaching Gayton. Unfortunately Gayton wasn’t reached but we heard every neighborhood dog along way. On the way back we turned right on Vassar and left on Farmington. We discovered one lone car who was driving what felt like 35-40 mph down a narrow road, luckily we could see it coming with plenty of time to get off the road.

Quick group work at the Monkey Bars at QMS. 2 minutes of Mary to finish things.

Announcements – Bootleg is leading a group to The Bridge this Saturday, October 25th. EF Hutton is leading a group to The Bridge on Saturday, November 15th. The Wellesley Crew is starting a Bootcamp this Friday, October 24th at the Wellesley Pool meeting at 0530-0615 https://maps.app.goo.gl/MtL6qaLRSy9HH8YS6?g_st=ipc

Prayer Requests – Fireman Ed, Charlotte, Fudds Sister (Mary)

NMS – fun times with an empty Q sheet on Monday afternoon, thank you for the opportunity to lead.

  • Puddles & Goose Poop

19 noble warrior braved the wet and windy gloom of a Tuesday morning to attack the terrain of Heartbreak Ridge.  Here is how it went down:

    • Mosey to the blacktop for COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • DMH
      • HRM
      • LBC
      • APD
    • 4 corners with 10, 15, 20, 25 reps of an exercise
      • 70 HRM
      • 70 WWII sit-ups
      • 70 monkey humpers
      • 70 2x crab cakes
    • Mosey to the hill for an 11 with squat thrusters and Chuck Norris
    • Mosey to the parking lot with a Bernie up the embankment for some Mary
      • Cross-legged crunches – each side
      • WWI crunches
      • FM
    • Stretch
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Solid work from the PAX today.  The blacktop was filled with puddles and goose droppings, making the 4 corners a minefield that left some wet and narley.  The 11s were a curveball as the PAX did not expect YHC to include so much cardio.  All in all, great work from the PAX.

Bootleg is taking a group to the Bridge in 2 Saturdays (10/25).  Lunch today at Joey’s.

God is good all of the time!

  • I am familiar with the works of Pablo Neruda

A perfect number 16 took off promptly at 5:30 to the edges of HBR, only to be joined 5 minutes in by Fudd making us a prime number PAX for the rest of the beatdown. Handshake took the 1st half of the beatdown and HDo took the 2nd half. We did:

COP: SSH, Ukrainian Soldiers, Helicopters, HRMs, LBCs, Scorpion Kicks-correct and incorrect. Mosey to our namesake hill: Triple check of: Burpees, WWIIs, down Heartbreak hill and bernie back up. Over to baseball field for some rounds of running the bases then break up into 3 groups for: Burpees, Jump Squats, and WWIIs. Pass Q to YHC.

Head down to bleachers for everyone’s favorite: 4 Rounds of 40 Benchkicks and 20 Squats. Sprinkle in a set of Pickle Pounders, then over to Jerkin Gym: 4 rounds of 8 Jerkins. Over to end of parking lot to huff some diesel fumes and do a raised tunnel of love. Back to the flag with burpee ring of fire and 2 min of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS: Poor Fudd was left to wander the AO for a while as Handshake took us to the very back of the fields for the COP. Salt Lick was kind enough to waive him down and bring him over, which was met with Fudd’s notorious kindness upon arrival in the COP. Bernie’ing up Heartbreak Hill 3 times is a way to start the beatdown so your Quads are sufficient spent.

Good to have 17 out and Fireman Ed join us this morning. The west end clown car of Gold Digger, Borat, and Green Hornet is a consistent feature of HBR now, love it! Finishing up with a Burpee RoF seemed like a good idea until you realize that is 17 Burpees in a row at the end.

Announcements: 2nd F Lunch that is on the 2nd Tuesday of the month is on Tuesday the 14th, which falls on the 2nd Tuesday at noon. Location is Joey Hotdogs in Innsbrook.

  • The Hype Man Fartsacked

After hyping my first Heartbreak Q, Handshake turned off the alarm, thinking he’d just rest his eyes for a minute. Soon thereafter, while he continued to wallow in the fartsack, 21 Gloom Warriors got after it. Following an introduction and disclaimer, COP started with SSHs, DQs, Arm Circles, WWIIs and Mt. Climbers. Next, while still in COP, we got the heart rate up: we ran in place, only stopping for a few firecracker jumps, burpees, merkins, etc. Recovery. Enough of that: Let’s roll!

From QMS over to PES for a triple check: P1 scrambles up the stairs, bear crawls over to the other stairs, run down and does a lap, while P2 does Heels to Heaven and P3 does squats. Borat was jump squatting like an NBA star while Whitesnake regaled us with tales from across the pond. Done. Quick 10 count. FEBA! Let’s mosey.

Dora time. Partner up. 100 merkins. 150 crunchy frogs. 200 SSHs. Hope we didn’t disrupt the Tomatoes too badly as we sprinted past them with sweat flying. Enough of that, back over to QMS.

Circle up for some of Mary’s ugly step sister w/ ADHD: Core exercises, OYO, no count, no stopping, just change when the next one is called. FMs, flutters, Box cutters, V-ups, and more WWIIs. Almost done. No time for stopping now: Grab a pole. 20 polesmokers. 5 Imperial Squat Walkers. 10 Mike Tysons. All OYO. I saw Gold Digger done early. Had to keep that beast moving: Repeato was the call.

Mosey BTTF for a 60 second leg hold…aaaaaaaaaand done! Way to work fellas!

    Numbers. Names.

Announcements: 1.) Saturday, 10/4, Handicap Build in Midlothian, starting about 9:30am. Get with Gomer for details. Come on out, get your hands dirty and help someone that could use it. 2.) Lighthouse, Blue Moon and YHC will table the Out of the Darkness suicide awareness walk on Sat, 10/4, in Dogwood Dell area. We aim to be set up by 7:45am. We’re hoping that there will be lots of men to speak to about the answer that F3 is to the mental health crisis. 3.) Likewise, EF Hutton plans to set up a table at Tuckahoe Little League, also on Sat, 10/4, to share the awesomeness of F3. So look out for lots of baseball dads coming to an AO near year. Get your thinking caps on and start coming up with lots of insulting nicknames.

Prayer Requests: None today. YHC took us out.

Moleskin: When you eventually solve the handful of problems you have today (or they just pass, as all things inevitably do), you’ll then have new problems. They will never leave. But don’t lose heart. There are a million and one things going right today. Take note of them. We are blessed to have another day to be alive. Use it. Look for an opportunity to encourage someone who needs it. Try to be a little better than you were yesterday. Try to think a little less about yourself and notice something you can do for another. Have a great day fellas! And I’ll SYITG!

  • Mariner missed Joey C

Fifteen of Westhoe’s finest came to Tuesday’s finest AO for a beatdown. A few joined us in the COP after we got started.

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Arm Circles, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey to front of PES for Triple Check: HRMs, Heels2Heaven, run the loop. Mosey down to QMS tennis courts for a HDo favorite: Wheelbarrows and Derkins. 3 rounds.

Then over to QMS benches for 4 rounds of 40 Benchkicks & 20 Squats, with Handshake very concerned with everyone’s Squat form. Down to the Jerkin Gym for 4 rounds of 8 Jerkins. Back to the flag for 3 min of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS: Always a good morning when the age range of the PAX is between teens and seventies. YHC took the Q to sweat off some excess vacation lbs. Without his pal Joey Chesnut, Mariner was stuck with us old guys. Solid to have 15 PAX while missing some HBR regulars.

Announcements: Ruck event this weekend in SOJ. What better way to spend 8-12 on a Friday night.

  • 17 Strong

The WestHoe renaissance continued as a PAX of 17 assembled in the rain to HBR for bus stop covered beat-down.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • DMH
      • HRM
      • LBC
      • APD
    • At each school door (5), do 20 HRM, 30 squats and 40 LBCs
    • 3x check with run, FK and WWII sit-ups
    • Find a wall – 3 sets
      • 15 wall sits with alternating air press, milkers, Muhamed Ali’s
      • 20 PLTs
      • 10 Mike Tyson
    • Mosey back to parking lot, stopping to do 20 dips
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Great day on the west end with 1 clown car, 3 father/son pairings, 2 Rogers (really 3 with Fudd), and a couple of Houses.  Strong numbers and not much mumble-chatter once the reps started to pile up.

Plenty of announcements with Convergence on Saturday at 6:30 am.  October 4th could be busy with service opportunities.  Mr. Rogers and Blue Moon setting up a table in Maymont for a suicide awareness event and Gomer rebuilding a handicap ramp for a non-profit.  See Slack.

God is good all of the time!
