  • 11 Apostles & a Cat

Eleven young men & a Cat made the journey to Trinity United Methodist Church this morning for some self reflection. Well….. Bodos seemed more interested in scoping out the competition.

Finding no souls to save we went to work.

We partnered up and the timer ran counter clockwise around the playground while his partner did WW2 x2, Scissor Kicks x2, Scrunchie Frog x2, APD x2.

We slow moseyed to front of Trinity and took a moment to admire the cat.

Señor Frog considered taking him home than thought better of it.

    We did 11’s instead.

    Dips with Bear Crawls. X11

We Moseyed around to back of church to find our spot on the wall.

Donkey Kicks x20, Toe Taps x20, Balls to the wall with Pig Skin counting in some foreign tongue. Not sure what he counted to, but seemed long enough.

Moseyed back to our vehicles while stoping to do 75 squats & 25 Monkey Humpers along the way.

We ended our time together with a Mary of Burpees that was expertly explained by YHC. Some of the Pax had trouble with the clear and precise instructions so we ended with LBC’s instead.

    Prayer request for Up Chuck.

    Dinner this Friday.

Bodos inspired us all with a few Godly words of wisdom.

  • Siri, was Kenny Loggins in a band?

Before YHC went to bed last night, he realized that no one had signed up to Q and planned to start his week off right. So, he picked up the Q. Here is what went down.

Mosey down to the bottom of Lindsey Court for a warm up that included: SSHs, Imperial Walkers, Don Quixote, Dead Man Hang, Cherry Pickers, Merkins and Wilson’s wife.

Next, partner up to head back up Lindsey. P1 runs to the top of Lindsey and back while P2 works his way up the hill doing a series of exercises. First bear crawl, then lunges and finally crab walk.

Once at the top of the hill, the PAX moseyed down Lindsay Drive to the southern end of West Drive Circle for a triple check. P1 ran the loop around West Drive Circle. P2 – WW2s. P3 – squats.

While waiting for siri to answer whether Kenny Loggins was in a band, the PAX moseyed back across Lindsay Drive to the northern end of West Drive Circle for another triple check. P1 runs to the end of the street (despite complaints that it was too far). P2 – arm circles. P3 – Hand Release Merkins.

Mosey back up Lindsay to the parking lot for 11s. Start with 10 jump squats and 1 2-count monkey humper. Most of the PAX finished before YHC called time.

    Numberama / Namearama

Announcements – GrowRuck coming up. See Slack for details.

YHC took us out challenging the PAX to think about when we are sheep and when we are shepherds.

  • Taxation is theft

Thirteen tough taxpayers came out to Hoedown on tax day. We went off campus to pay our fair share, the Westhoe way:.

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks, LBCs. Mosey down to Spottswood for a marginal rate escalator:

10% Bracket – 10 Merkins, 12% – 12 LBCs, 22% – 22 Jump Squats, 24% – 24 Box Cutters, 32% – 32 Carolina Dry Docks, 35% – 35 WWIIS, 37% – 37 Burpees. Each bracket was a higher spot up Spottswood hill. Start at bottom and repeat exercises going into the higher bracket. After 37 Burpees were done we met at bottom of hill then mosey back to flag. Finish with 3 min of Mary then YHC took us out.

NMS: The PAX crushed this escalator even though it took 30+ minutes to complete. Running up the hill longer each time kept the blood flowing. There was some grumbling at the initial call of the top bracket being 37 Burpees but the PAX blew through them when we got to the end. There may be a lesson in here about the unfairness in our progressive tax system as well. Taxation is theft!

  • Pink is for Everyone, B*%#@es

A bakers dozen of stargazers took to the darkened streets of Tuckahoe, some with appropriate eye covering, in anticipation of a once in a lifetime astrological event that previously occurred in 2017. According to the custodial staff prepping for such rare events, this is what occurred.

Mosey to front of the school for introductions and disclaimers. Warmups included invisible jump rope, helis, jazzercise, dead man hang. Mosey over Bodo’s lot in search of drier ground for hand release merkins, LBC’s and light broga work. All was warm, so let us begin.

Gather some coupons from the recently replenished donations. Partner up for triple check. Timer runs the lot, wiper merkins and big boy WWII’s with blocks.

Partner up bringing one block with you to the bank lot. Timer runs around the bank while partner performs mobile exercise with block. Exercises included curls, lunges and military press. Alternate when caught from behind. 2 laps were completed.

Back to the church lot for a 2nd triple check. Timer runs the loop in opposite direction. Coupon exercises included standing skull crunchers & chest press.

Return coupons to the pile and mosey back to the front of Tuckahoe for 11’s. Incline merkins at the stairs/bike rack with squats at the top of the stairs. Finished early due to time constraints.

Numbers/Names/Announcements/Prayers: Good luck to Faceplants 2.0 on surgery to repair broken arm. Prayers to Lockjaw as he goes thru some physical ailments for him and his papa.

    YHC took us out.

NMS: Great numbers and mumble chatter as spring break tales were plentiful. YHC wanted to dive into the recently replenished coupon pile that Upchuck had donated a few weeks ago. Thank you gents for starting the week strong. Don’t look up at the sun today.

  • Ten Dancing Fools

A lovely spring morning brought ten John Travolta wanna-be’s to a Hoedown. According to Uma Thurman dancing through EF Huton’s head, it went something like this:

Moseyed to the upper blacktop, ran a lap and then circled up for some warmups of SSH, Hillbillies, Ukrainian Soldiers, DQs, Deadman hang to Cherry Pickers, Freddie Mercuries, Mercury Freddie’s, LBCs and a pencil role to merkins.

We then lined up for some square dancing (four corners) starting with 10 donkey kicks, 20 squats, 30 Shoulder Taps, 40 SSH (Doing every exercise on the way back). Had so much fun and did it again with 10 HRM, 20 WWII, 30 LBCs, 40 Hammers.

Everyone was starting to get their groove on and the imaginary music moved us to do the burpee shuffle. Ten burpees, then shuffle half way down the blacktop, then nine and shuffle back—all the way down to one. 55 total burpees. The Pax loved it. There was time to do it again but I went against the pax and took us down to the loop and did two rounds of a triple check—run the loop, people’s chair with air press and merkins.

Accused of not being creative enough, I had us partner up and do a Bro-Burpee. This is the hot new dance coming to an AO near you.

We circled up and finished with a burpee ring of fire—went around 3 times. Senior Frog may still be there doing burpees as he wouldn’t stop.

The pax started the morning complaining about their Saturday workout and they transitioned to complaining about mine by the end. Mission accomplished.

Announcements: EF Huton has the best pork loin in Richmond according to the lucky receivers of his Breaking Bread food. Sign up to top his loin.

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Five dark thirty

12 studs gathered at a cool Hoedown morning to kick off another week. Here’s how it went:

Short mosey to the top of Lindsey for a COP – 15xSSH, DMH, 10xCP, 15xLBC, 10xMerkins. Quick start into Lindsey – partner up to head to the bottom, alternating side shuffles & 10x MH’s. New partners for the climb back out; timer runs to the top & back while partner bear crawl, lunge, burpee broad jump and crab walks.

Head to the upper parking lot for a triple check of WWII, box cutters and 10x box jumps on the little wall. Intermission planks with a classic Swirly invitational to hold it. Triple check #2 commenced on the super dark upper field of HRM, squats and a timer run to 5x pull ups.

The school lights finally came on. Handshake was relieved to be through the longest 30 minutes ever.

We stopped for 2×12 jerkins at the handrail on the way back down and knocked out a curb crawl up to 5 and back down at the drop off loop. 5 min of Mary wrapped up our time with APDs, FKs, H2Hs, HD’s, WW1s and a plank. YHC botched a dad joke and we moved to Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (prayers for Handshake’s 2nd cousin 9yr old; bone scan situation)

YHC took us out. I’m super thankful to be able to gather with such a fine group to stay active and grow. Enjoy the day gents & until next time, GP.

  • Triple Pencil Roll

Fourteen men of purpose rolled into the latest edition of Hoedown. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the driver who literally drove into the AO, the following might have happened:

Mosey backwards around the Horseshoe to the steps to the school front across Forest to the Church Parking Lot.

    SSHs x50
    Dead Man Hang
    IWs
    LBCs
    Flutter Kicks
    HRMs

Mosey back across Forest to TES

Elevens from the bike rack to the parking lot. Monkey humpers and flutter kicks. Finish in the parking lot.

Mosey No Further. Pick a parking space. 3 hand release merkins, 3 WWIIs, 3 deep squats. Pencil roll to the next space. Continue around the lot and complete the loop.

Mosey to the corner of Forest and Lindsay. Triple check. WWIIs on the hill, monkey humpers, and bear crawl to the TES sign (run back).

Mosey back to the VSF / horseshoe for 30 seconds of Mary.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out. March continues to be a quiet Integrity Month. The Challenge is to step up our game. Push yourself to be upfront, truthful, and honest in your private life, your work life, and all around town. From the simple to the complex – your exercise count, your name, your relationships, and so forth. Represent yourself and your family well.

Reminder: Gomer reminds us to be thankful for what we have. After a week in India, Gomer reports that what we have here is everything. Folks in India have unbreathable air, unbelievably crowded conditions, and a growing, but still poverty-ridden, country. Having been there, YHC challenges each of us to wonder why we complain about anything. Be thankful.

  • Seńor Frog (1) Year Q!

14 F3 Brother’s, Friends and Co-Workers gathered this morning to support me on surviving my 1st year of F3. I could not have done it, or really stuck with it, without ALL of your support.

I would like to give Swirly and Handshake a big Thank You for their constant encouragement, badgering and mentorship. This has made all the difference. I often wake up feeling sore and beat down not caring one bit about going to a work out, but then I think of the privilege of getting to hang out with all of you high level F3 brothers running around mumbling in the dark cold gloom wet and cold acting like kids again and I say to myself. Hell Yea I’m going.

This is somewhat probably what went down this morning.

1 Burpee to get everyone’s attention.

Mosey around bus loop to right back corner of school for COP. SSH, Imperial Walkers, Dead Man Hang, Don Quixote, Merkin, HRM, LBC.

    Mosey to back soccer field for 4-Corners. 15 Merkins, 20 Merkins, 25 LBC, 30 Squats. Round 2. 4-Corners. 20 Merkins, 25 Merkins, 30 LBC, 40 Squats.

Mosey to soccer goal. Line up for some wind sprints to other soccer goal. Recover with 50 Squats. X4.

Mosey to back jungle gym for 8X4 Partner pull ups.

Mosey to school for a triple check. Muhammad Ali Wall Sits & Dips while timer runs to jungle gym for 1 pull up.

Mosey around entire soccer field to side of school fenced in area. Line up near school for some bear crawls. Bear crawl to fence for 20 merkins then run back. Bear crawl to fence for 30 LBC then run back. Bear crawl to fence for 30 deep squats then run back.

  • Tool Time

Twelve body sculpting craftsmen shook off the chill of a late February morning in time to answer the work bell for the latest edition of the Hoedown. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the guy breaking into the Third Church construction site, the following might have happened:

Mosey across the school parking lot, stairs, and grass, then over Forest to the Third Church parking lot (but just left of the normal spot) for the COP.

    SSHs x50
    IW’s x20
Dead Man Hang (with elbow grab)
    Fudd’s Wife
    Wilson’s Wife
    Pigeon right, pigeon left
    Fudd’s Wife
    LBC’s
    Reverse Crunches
    Flutter kicks
    HRMs x15

Mosey across the front of Third Church, then right to the back parking lot / construction site. Climb fence. road.

Dora. 50 merkins per man, 150 LBCs, and 200 SSHs.

Mosey to the Walgreen’s Parking Lot. Triple check. Run the building (“It’s a big building”), WWIIs, and Carolina Dry Docks. Time narrowed this to one round.

Mosey back to the front of the school, then line up for an elephant walk (aka, bear crawl in a line).

Mosey back to the horseshoe. 2 minutes left for a set of merkins at each traffic cone. Call it 10–20 slow merkins.

COT – Numbers, names, and YHC took us out with a message about .

    NMS:

    Hitch makes some interesting noises.

Bodo’s has a lot going on, but still has enough free time after running a parish, a family, and a construction company to start a vehicle salvage business. He’s looking for investors in the start up. Kudos to his daughters for making their donations. Let’s go!

Last Call believes that Walgreens is a “big building.” YHC notes that LC finds no problem with running YHC’s cold butt 1.5 miles down River Road in the pitch dark from First Watch to Panorama.

Billy Surf may not quite have Hutton’s speed on the bear crawl, but he definitely has the stamina. Nice work!

Several guys are on the mend…or just still recovering from their Saturday night hangover, or both.

    Announcements:

None mentioned, but YHC notes that some dudes are adding fake weights to their bodies and learning to “live like a Clydesdale.” YHC guesses this is what is meant by walking a few miles in another man’s shoes.
