  • Florida Abs

Twelve stallions trampled the lure of the Fart Sack and reported to the paddock for this week’s version of the Hoedown. Temperatures were a seasonably pleasant sunny and 70 at F3RVA’s darkest AO. According to the inscription on the TES Boulder, this is what happened:

Mosey to the Third Church parking lot for the COP:

    SSHs
    5 burpees
    Russian Soldiers
    Imperial Walkers
    Dead Man Hang
    Scorpion Kicks
    5 HRMs
    WWI sit-ups

Mosey to the Teacher’s Parking Lot for MLKs:

    Monkey Humpers (x15)
    Little Baby Crunches (x10)
    Kraken Burpees (x5)
    Run the Loop, clockwise.
    Repeato x3

Mosey to the Little School Library for Curley Howard’s:

    2 HRMs
    3 Flutter Kicks
    4 Lt. Dan’s
    5 Box Cutters
    Run the loop, again, clockwise.
Repeato 3x, but increase reps x2 on Round 2 and x3 on Round 3.

Mosey to the Blacktop for Sergei Mangote:

    Bear crawl across blacktop
Perform 10 mountain climber merkins (3 mountain climbers followed by a hand release merkin). Q called 20 originally, then sanity prevailed and Q modified.
    Repeato 3x.

Mosey to the Corner for Florida Abs:

Pick 3 PAX members. Have them share their favorite ab exercises. Last Call chose LBCs. Garbage Plate chose V-ups. Honey Do chose heels-to-Heaven.

Start with 20 of the 1st exercise. Then, run halfway down the blacktop and do 20 of the 2nd exercise. Run the remainder of the blacktop and do 20 of the 3rd exercise at the end. Bear crawl across the width of the blacktop, and repeat the cycle on the opposite side of the blacktop. Continue the cycle until time is called. Handshake and Bodo’s made it through about 1.5 loops.

    Mosey back to the VSF

Number-am-a, Name-a-ram-a, YHC took us out.

    NMS:

Today the country celebrates Martin Luther King’s Birthday. YHC thinks this is great. YHC also has never understood why this country celebrates every famous person’s birthday on a Monday or a Friday. YHC thinks this is a little nutty. However, it is perhaps no less nutty than the tradition of mixing flour, butter, eggs, and sugar in a pan, cooking it, lighting it on fire, and then singing. Birthdays are strange.

    Welcome back to Honey Do.

Let’s hope for a peaceful week for our country. YHC confesses – he is done with crazy people pushing nonsense. 2021 is a year for intelligent people to lead through persuasion, reason, and kindness. YHC challenges every member of F3RVA to commit themselves to leading by setting a positive example.

  • Birthday Block Party

12 RVA Warriors came on a crisp morning to help YHC celebrate another year around the sun

    This how it sent down.

Grab a coupon and mosey up to the blacktop

COP (ALL IC) – SSH (x36), DQ, Hillbillies, LBC’s (x36), Heels to Heaven, Alternating Shoulder Taps, Arm Circles

    THANG

    Mosey to the field

Murder Birthday – Using the coupons, start with 6 murder bunnies follow by 6 coupon burpees. Sprint to the swing set and jog back. Rinse and Repeat a total of 6 times. PLANK-O-RAMA for the six

    Swing sides of the field

    11’s – Start with 10 2ct Flutter Kick + Press and 1 Pull up

    Mosey to the courts

1985 Trivia – YHC asked True/False questions from sports and pop culture from the year 1985. If the PAX got it right everyone completed 6 Sit-up + Press. If they got it wrong, suicides and 6 Sit-up + Press. Questions were as follows:

    1. Boston Celtics won the NBA Finals?
    2. Chicago Bears who the Super Bowl XIX?
    3. Most popular song was “Can’t fight this Feeling – REO Speedwagon”?
    4. Most popular movie was “The Goonies”?
    5. Most popular TV show was “Cheers”?

    Mosey to the SF

2 MOM – Merkin Ring of Fire (6 reps)

Numberrama, Namerama, Announcements, YHC took us out

    MOLESKIN

Another birthday, another coupon workout. This starting to be a theme for YHC on his birthday. I was great to see the Tuckahoe crew this morning. Since finishing my own tour of RVA, I have stayed in Daville so it has been close to 2 month since posting anywhere else.

Glad to have Swirly out this morning. Continue prayers for your M and her recovery.

Well 1985 was a really good year not just because I was born then. Found out some great movies, songs, and shows were released that year. Here are the answers to the questions:

    1. Lakers won the Finals
    2. 49ers won the Super Bowl (1984-1985 season)
    3. “I Want to Know What Love is” by Foreigner most popular song. Also that year; Careless Whisper, We Are the World, and One More Night – Phil Collins
    4. Back to the Future most popular movie. Also that year; Beverly Hill Cop, National Lampoon’s European Vacation, Police Academy 2
    5. The Cosby Show most popular TV show. Also that year; Dallas, The Golden Girls, and Miami Vice

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Hoedown starting 2021 strong

14 resolute resolution-holders came out to celebrate the WFT playoff berth with some fun. We did:

COP in front of school: Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers, Flutterkicks, Merkins. Mosey across street to the dark 3rd lot. 4 corners of 10 HRMs, 20 WWIIS, 30 Jump Squats, 40 SSHs. Then repeato but increase reps by 5 each station.

Over to office area. Bear crawl spaces with 2 HRMs at each space. Back to the horseshoe for Triple check fun: Donkey Kicks, Reverse Crunches, & run the loop. Stop to commemorate the Former-Skins victory with 20 Burpees.

Then onto skating-blacktop for 3 sets of PLTs. Over to parking lot arrows. Alternate Lunges & Broad Jumps with 3 HRMs at each arrow.

Announcements then YHC took us out.

NMS: Hoedown blowing it out starting 2021 with 14 PAX. Been a while since F3RVA’s darkest AO cracked a bakers dozen. Maybe the promise of 30 degrees and foggy was too much to pass up for this first Monday of 2021. PAX blew threw the beatdown, and YHC saved the 20 Burpees for midway instead of in the COP. Kubota would be proud. Strong work by all the PAX this morning. Good to have some non-regular Hoedowners attend like Oyster and Ronnie.

Announcements: 3rd F tomorrow night at 8:00. Gomer Pile has the Q.

  • Ski Season Prep

11 strong gathered in the gloom for a workout to start the week. Here’s how it went down…

COP: Mosey to the front of the school to start with Dead Men’s Hang, SSH, Don Quixote, Russian Soldiers and finally some box cutters.

We moseyed behind the school to the playground on the upper field for a Dora. Partner up. One partner does the exercises while other partner runs to school and does 10 donkey kicks and returns. Exercises were 100 incline Merkins, 200 (full count, 2 count, 4 count depending on who you ask) LBCs and 300 SSH.

Mosey to upper blacktop for Triple Check. Exercises were copper head squats, flutter kicks and run to fence at end of blacktop and back. Three rounds.

Next up we moseyed to teacher’s lot, partnered up with one partner doing Lt Dans while other partner runs the sides of the lot – backwards on short side, shuffle to right on long side, then forwards on other short side and shuffle to left on other long side. Switch and do 5 rounds.

We found we still had some time left so we moseyed to the main parking lot, partnered up and had one partner doing reverse crunches while the other partner ran up to the paved hill, then Bernie Sanders up the hill and run back. We did this until near full time then moseyed back to the flag and did one round of ring of fire of 10 Merkins each. Times up.

Wasn’t sure what to title this workout until UpChuck asked if I was prepping for ski season given all the lunges and squats. Seems appropriate as it is that time of year. Upchuck suggested we buy 5 acres of land at a posh Colorado resort for a cheap $895K (at 1990s prices) and start F3 Rockies. I can pitch in $100 to that!

Congratulations and good luck tomorrow for Bacon Bits whose wife is scheduled to have their second baby! Also good luck to Water Wings child who is having adenoid surgery on Wednesday I believe. Finally, good luck to Water Wings who is completing 1000 miles run in 2020 – only 35 miles left to go!

  • Engineering jokes and no sprints

The legal limit of 10 gathered for a Hoedown special to start the holiday week off right. Here’s how it went:

Warmup: Mosey to the bottom of Lindsey for 20xSSH, DMH, 8xDQ, 10xAC forward/back, 10xRussian Soldiers, 3 burpees OYO.

Partnered up to alternate run/bear crawl back out of Lindsey. Hitch joined us at the top somehow, Al Gore for the six then a tribute moment of Fudd’s wife to honor our guest from Colorado.

Mosey to the Tuckahoe wall for 5 minute drill round 1: partner up and alternate Donkey Kicks & Squats. DK’s are the timer and ascend by 2s 2,4,6,8…. for 5 minute running clock.

Head to the back field by way of a crawl bear up the covered walkway. Triple check in the gloom with rounds of wall sits, flutter kicks and 7 perfect pull ups. Several engineering jokes emerged. After the triple check we knocked out 400 WWII’s as a group and headed off for the slippery parking lot for round 2. Audible called to continue to the main lot.

Round 2 of the 5 min drill: ascending x2 HRM’s and Lt. Dans.

Mosey to the front lot for 3rd and final 5 min drill: ascending (x1) Burpees and crunches.

Head back to the flag, numberama, namerama, announcements (no Currahee this Friday, Satan’s Hill New Years convergence) and YHC took us out. No animals were harmed and no sprints were run in the making of this ground and pound workout. Good to be out with such a fine crew; well done gents. Until next time, GP

  • Looked Easier on You Tube

9 Studly Men started the week by rising to the challenge YHC had laid out. Rain was in the forecast but the conditions were a prime sunny and 70. According to the Tuckahoe Elementary security, here is what was rumored to occur.

5.30 rings and we are off. Quick circle around the loop to collect any late arrivals and mosey to the Teachers Lot for warmarama of the following: SSH’s, Helis, DQ’s, Dead Man Hang, Merkins (regular and 1 leg). All is warm and bright, lets go.

Mosey to the bottom of Lindsay Ct for a complex Dora/Triple Check, whatever it is called. Partner up. Partner 1 – runs to the 1st lit light pole and back while Partner 2 does Lt. Dan, Squats and Carolina Dry Docks. Everyone does 3 sets of each exercise AMRAP. Al Gore for the 6.

Catch me if you Can. Partner 1 – burpee then sprint to catch Partner 2 who is Bernie Sanders up Lindsay Court. Switch and continue to the top. Originally Partner 2 was going to Al Gore but that would not have gotten us very far.

Mosey to the monkey bars for some core work with another Triple Check/Dora – whatever it is called. Partner 1 does 20 hanging V’s (keeping legs straight) from the monkey bars while partner 2 does dips until switch. 3 sets each. 2nd round included 20 hanging knee raises to the one side then switch with your partner who is doing incline merkins. 2nd set was 20 hanging knee raises to the other site for symmetry. Do 2 sets on each side (4 sets total). AG for 6.

Mosey to covered walk way for 3 sets of 10 boxing cockroaches with partner. Times up, BTTF.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, YHC took us out.

Announcements: Rosies’s 12 days of Christmas – No Toll on Tuesday; HDHH – Wednesday at Hardywood West Creek.

NMS: YHC wanted to try the hanging ab work since watching fitness model easily do this on you tube last week. The wet monkey bars made it a bit difficult for grip. Will bring it back out on a dryer day. The grunting of the PAX during the boxing cockroaches alerted a worker of the school to investigate what was happening at 6.10 in the morning. Penny for his thoughts. Appreciation to PAX for patience on the numerous modifications to todays exercises. Always good way to start the week.

  • Demonstration Please?

YHC arrived to find BK had already secured the AO.  Flag was planted and twelve others joined the fun.

    Here’s what was done.

    MOLESKIN

The Pax was greeted by a beautiful cool morning with a few snowflakes floating to the ground.  All was fine and well until YHC pulled the Scissor Sisters routine from the anals of his Q playbook.  Yep, YHC said anals instead of annals because he’s quite certain the Pax would invite him to shove that one back up his anals.  Haven’t heard that many moans and groans since the instructor tried out his stand-up routine at last year’s annual CPA tax conference.  Thanks for sticking with me, YHC still had fun.
