  • Gangnam Style^^

9 men gathered a bit earlier and started talking about the Upchuck’s legendary corn hole play during the 2nd annual F3 gathering. Mosey to the basket ball court and started the COP with music playing as follows: DMH X10, Helicopter X10, DQ X10, SSH X 50, Copperhead squat X 10, Merkins X10, LBC X20, American Hammers X 20, Reverse Crunch X 20, Scorpion Kicks X5 OYO, not YOY. (Upchuck corrected YHC gently that it is OYO and reminded YHC that the music is somewhat loud.)

Exercise #1: Dora. Partner up for 100 Merkins, 200 LBCs, 300 squats with the timer running to the other side of the court and back. Due to the popular demand, YHC played the “Gangnam Style” while moseying to the parking lot.

Exercise #2: 11. One side of the parking lot starting to do 1 merkin walk and bear crawl to the other side of the parking lot and do 10 WWII and then 2 merkin walks and 9 WWII.

Exercise #3: Another Dora. Partner up for 50 Burpees, 100 flutter kicks, 150 SSHs with the timer running around the inner circle in the parking lot.

Announcements: collecting shoes for Homeward organization.

I just wanted to have fun with you guys by playing some music while exercising. Hope this did not disrupt your workout too much.

    Thanks Hitchhiker!

  • Jets su&k, flickering light and other random thoughts

13 capable cadets came out on another morning of the darkest AO in Richmond. There was hope that the COP would have an early boost of light at 5:31 but after coming on it for a minute and then came back on for a minute and so on. Anyway, the routine went like this:

COP: Mosey to front of school led by two handsome bald lads, 20 SSHs, 10 DQs, 25 FMs, and 15 ACs each way.

Exercise 1: Curb crawl with merkins near bus loop. I did not realize that the curb was a few feet from traffic which was more than expected for 5:30. That scared a couple of pax. Mosey to one of Bodos’ many parking lots.

Exercise 2: There were 8 parking spot lines. Do 2 burpees per line. Rest then do 3 burpees for the same 8 lines. Total equals 40 burpees. Not too shabby. Mosey to front of school.

Exercise 3: 3 sets of 9 bike rack merkins with 3 sets of 28 box jumps. Today is 9/28. I am so witty. Mosey to wall near horseshoe.

Exercise 4: 3 sets of 9 and 28 again with donkey kicks and WWIIs, chicken peckers – 2 count and 2 count flutters and donkey kicks and heels to heaven. Mosey to wall near field.

Exercise 5: Triple check with balls to the wall, crabcakes and 9 pullups. Mosey around blacktop twice to cool down with 28 2 count American hammers, DQs and cherry pickers (for very low cherries).

    Closed in prayer.

Announcements: Retreat on 10/3 in Amelia, Study of Job Tuesday at 8 p.m. – virtual – invite on Slack and collecting shoes for Homeward organization. See Honeydo if you are in the West End and have gently used shoes to donate.

Jets are not good this year. When the Colts score more points with their defense than your offense, you just entered the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes.

Let’s do great things this week for the one who makes all this possible.

    Sincerely,

    Fireman Ed

  • You want the Anvil or the Pineapple?

An illustrious 13 came out to take in the night sky in RVA’s darkest AO. With no sign of the possible FNG, the Pax rolled up to the Asphalt Sea for for COP.

SSH, Helicopters, Don Quixote, Russian Soldiers, Scorpion Kicks

Down to the top of Lindsay for Lindsays. The exercises were box cutters and carolina dry-docks, with each set being performed with a run in between.

Alas, we arrive at La Casa de Lockjaw and partner up for triple check. Partner 1 runs down the street, hangs a left, runs around the West Drive Circle, and back. Partner 2 chooses from one of the Monopoly pieces for bench press and Partner 3 performs American Hammers with bricks.

The Monopoly pieces consist of an anvil, a concrete pineapple, a standard cinder block, and an extra large cinder block.

    Three time through.

Mosey up to the 3rd Pres back lot for Dora. Partner 1 runs the end of the parking lot and back, while the other partner performs 100 donkey kicks, 200 monkey humpers, 300 flutter kicks. Called a little short due to available time.

Mosey back the the AO where YHC took us out.

  • Full parking lot at Hoedown

18 eager PAX got their week started off right at Hoedown on a muggy 70+ degree morning. We did:

COP on blacktop: SSH, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks.

THE THANG: Start with 4 Corners: 10 Burpees, 20 Hand Release Merkins, 30 V-Ups, 40 Jump Squats. Run the long way and bear crawl the width. Repeato but add 5 reps on all 4 corners.

Partner up & head over to Jerkin bars. Too many PAX so split up groups – 3 sets of 20 PLTs with others do 3 sets of 10 Jerkins. Mosey across street to 3rd. 50 Reverse Crunches OYO.

Partner up again: Wheelbarrow across then back. 60 LBCs. Wheelbarrow there & back again. Mosey back to Triple check alley: Triple Check of Donkey Kicks, Flutterkicks & run the loop.

NMS: There were 5 PAX at 5:26 and YHC had a few ideas for what to serve up. 12 cars later in 3 minutes and those plans changed. Kubota last night asked about 27 burpees to honor the win of the Formerskins. With Gypsy and Fireman Ed nursing their teams losses YHC opted against that.

Now that we are in mid-September Hoedown is back to form as the Darkest AO in RVA. Great to have 18 out to start the week. Been a while since we had that out at Hoedown. Good to see Huggie Bear post at Hoedown and to have Shiplap back from his Honeymoon. We did some pickle pounders at the finish in his honor.

Announcements: Iron Pax tomorrow will be 3 miles of running + 300 Merkins and 250 squats. Bring your running shoes – tomorrow at heartbreak ridge, noToll, or Daville. Also 3rd F Zoom tomorrow night at 8:00.

  • Tour De TES

Twelve HIMs started off their work week with journey across the AO at this week’s edition of Hoedown. With only 75 seconds to spare to the start (source: Garmin), YHC needed a couple laps around the bus loop to shake off the cobwebs and collect any late additions. With 12 strong ready for battle, time to venture to the upper fields for COP.

Have a great day and SYITG!

  • I’m Back!!!

After months of avoiding any appearances in the gloom, yours truly decided to go back out and Q. It was nice to see 14 able bodied warriors descend upon the fashionable Westham west location. The workout went like this:

COP: 20 SSH, 10 DQs, 15 arm circles each way, 25 Freddie Mercuries

Exercise 1: Mosey to where Bodos holds his outdoor services. 4 corners: 10 burpees, 20 WWIIs, 30 2 count mountain climbers and 40 2 count flutter kicks

Mosey to another parking lot. Lunge about 200 feet. Curb bear crawl up to 6 merkins

Mosey back to school. Elevens with merkins on the bike rack or nearby with run to teacher’s parking lot and do WWIIs. 55 Merkins total. I nearly tripped checking out the nearby running group.

Mosey to nearby wall and partner up. Partner runs the horseshoe while other person does donkey kicks and then balls to the wall for the second loop.

Finished with SSHs led by Tryhard, DQs and cherry pickers (stretching is good when you are getting old).

Announcements: Iron Pax information should be on another backblast. I think that Twin Team will have the first installment led by Dr. Tryhard.

Campout (2nd F) to be held in Amelia County on 10/3. Registration should be on one of the backblasts.

The seasoned folks at Gridiron are discussing holding a convergence for Labor Day (9/7). More details or a vehement denial will be posted this week.

I enjoyed getting back in to the early morning workout. More to come.

  • Crossy Road

An excellently divisible twelve showed up for Hoedown on the the first cool morning in a while. After a hasty sign up for the Q at 5:20, YHC got us going with a mosey to the closest Third Church parking lot:

COP: Deadman hang // Helicopter // DQ // Crabcakes // LBCs // Merkins // Peter Parkers // Pickle Pounders // Lt. Dans // SSHs 21s. Mosey to next parking lot.

Dora with a Coupon: 100 Curls // 200 2x Flutter Kicks // 300 Squats with Coupon. Run the circle. Mosey to back parking lot

Windsprints: Group 1 sprint to other side of lot and back, Group 2 plank. Switch. 5 times. Mosey to Field behind School.

Triple Check: Merkins // WW2s // Run to bars, 5 pull ups, run back.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Crossing over Forest Ave. has never been so dangerous. As we crossed, multiple vehicles came speeding down the street both directions, breaking up the pax and causing confusion and at least one fall. Why so many people were driving around so fast so early in the morning we do not know. Thankfully no one was flattened.

Pray for Wojo- he’s getting married on Saturday! We suggested he get married at Hardywood’s on Saturday and his bride could come down the aisle on an El Paca. He seems very interested.

  • Fat Man & Little Boy

11 strong gathered at Hoedown this morning to start the week off right.

COP: Mosey to the side church lot for 20 SSH, 10 DMH, 5 DQ, 15 LBC, 10 MK, 10 Scorpion Honeydo Kicks, 10 bonus HC.

Jumped right into a regular Dora, partner up for 100 HRM, 200 jump squats, 300 box cutters with the timer running around the church building.

Mosey back to Hoedown central lawn for some Fat Man & Little Boy (40lb & 10lb coupons). The PAX circled up for Q led core work including Supermans, back extensions, hip dips, LBC, WWII, MK, Carolina Dry Docks, and reverse crunches while the PAX took turns with the coupons for 12x squat thrusts or squats with Fat Man and 12x 4 count American Hammers with Little Boy.

Head up to the gaga ball pit with just enough time for 6 minutes of fun. Partner up for ascending, alternating partner burpees: 2, 4, 6, 8…. for 6 minutes running clock.

Slow roll back to the flag for numberama, namearama, announcements and YHC closed us out.

Announcements: See Honeydo to sign up for Slack, etc. The Bonethug 10k is next Friday at RAMM, 5:15a start time.

Moleskine: YHC intentionally avoided crawl bear this morning, saving up the GP special for next time. Not sure how many PAX picked up on the WWII coupon reference from 75 years ago but none the less YHC enjoyed planning and mixing things up this morning. Unfortunately the dew is back out for the first time in a long time and the Hoedown lawn hasn’t been mowed in a long time which made for a very soggy start to the workout week. Until next time, GP.

    MOLESKIN

YHC mistakenly claimed that doing an exercise and adding one repetition at each parking spot while moving from one end of the parking lot to the other was foolproof and the antithesis of an UpChuck Q.  WRONG.  Questions abound, and they didn’t stop there.  The PAX finally caught on halfway through the Jump Squats.  YHC should expect no less.  Greenbow suspected an 80s theme with the inclusion of Jazzercises and Suzanne Somers in the COP, but legwarmers and leotards will be reserved for another day.  More questions were raised regarding crossovers qualifying as SUVs, particularly Subaru Outbacks.  Most were included just to be safe.  Bodos questioned the Q calling for only 1 merkin per hour of the clock, you vs. you buddy.  Last question of the day was about Wilson’s Spaghetti party, that one will mostly remain a mystery.
