Tuckahoe Elementary

  • Today was a good day……..and it’s got nothing to do with an AK

8 middle aged dudes who like to think of themselves as warriors shook off the pull of the fartsack to post for a celebration of several things.  The air was full of mist and the air was cool…..perfect conditions for a Fudd beatdown.  Here’s how it went down, more or less:

    COP

    SSH x 41

    Helicopters x 10

    Don Quixote x 10

    Merican x 15

    Crunchy Frogs x 10

    LBC x 20

    Arm Circles x 30 (15 forward, 15 backward)

    31 burpees OYO

10 count from Splinter and then mosey to the visitor’s parking lot for curb crawls, south curb to north and back again, increasing from one derkin up to five, repeat five and back down to one.  Due to the significant distance between curbs, YHC audibled after the first five and led the PAX to the front bus loop which has a much shorter distance between curbs.  Finished the last five evolutions there.

Mosey south on Forest to a left on Lakewood, then a left on Hillsdale and stop in front of Lockjaw’s house.

    APD’s x 31 in Lockjaw’s driveway.

Mosey south on Hillsdale and take a left on Lakewood and then a left on West Drive Circle.  Stop in front of #305 and do 17 “good” mericans in cadence.

Mosey north on West Drive, cross Hillsdale, run around the circle that gives the street its name, then stop halfway down the hill for Dora 123.  Teams of 2 did 100 mericans, 200 WWII situps, and 300 squats.  One man does the exercises while the other runs up the hill, around the circle, and back to his teammate.  Plank when done.

Mosey back to the flag for 3 minutes of Mary:

    Crunchy Frogs x 15

    Freddie Mercury x 20

    Flutter kicks x 31

    YHC took us out

    NMS

YHC had a lot to celebrate today, a 41st birthday, a contract on our house that was signed this past weekend, and a Redskins victory yesterday.  We’ll give an honorable mention to Tiger Woods who won his first victory since August 2013….1,876 day drought to be exact.  He may not have been the best husband, but you can’t help but admire someone who fought through all the demons, bad press, and scandal that he did along with the health issues and surgeries.  Hell, he couldn’t walk at one point a year or two ago and he embraced the suck through all of that and fought back to win the TOUR championship.  That’s baller if you ask me.  We should try to get him to an F3 workout sometime.

The 31 burpees OYO during COP was a continuation on a theme that was started by Slurpee (I think) and continued by Honeydo where we do the # of burpees equating to the final score of the Redskins in the preceding day’s game.  There was some Mumblechatter about switching to match the final score of the Jets going forward but the mumblechatter quickly died as the # of burpees increased.

YHC admits he did not realize the distance between curbs in the visitor’s lot.  The degree of difficulty increases exponentially with every foot over 10’ for curb crawls.  Kind of like the Richter scale for earthquakes.  So the 30 feet in that lot led to some seriously smoked guns, leading to the audible to the front of the school.

Lockjaw was not present this morning and, knowing how much he loves the Redskins (right?), YHC thought it would be a travesty to mosey past his house without some type of respectful gesture to include him in the celebration.  APD’s seemed apropos.  Glad none of the neighbors went out to get their paper at that time.

The 17 “good” mericans in front of 305 West Drive were in honor of the 17 years YHC spent in that house from age 4 to 21.  They were good years for the most part so we did “good” mericans with backs straight, chest hitting the ground, and plenty of groans per rep toward the end.

Dora’s were fun and the run up the hill and around the circle was just enough to get the heart pumping and blood flowing between sets of mericans, WW2 situps and squats.  Honeydo burned through the reps to help the time fly for YHC.  Other notable mentions were Splinter and BT who I think may have done an extra lap around the circle due to fast running…..well done gents!  Slurpee, Handshake, Garbage Plate, and Fireman Ed all pushed themselves hard, to their credit, and we were done with time to spare.

It was an honor to lead today gentlemen.  I signed up knowing it would be my birthday today and having no idea that my house would have a contract on it after we took it off the market several weeks ago.  It’s amazing what God will do if you go to him in humility and prayer and give him control of your future.  Many PAX have been kind enough to ask YHC over the past several months about the house, when are we moving, etc.  A wise man once said…..man plans and God laughs. It’s certainly felt that way for YHC this past summer, but thankfully we serve a loving God that cares for us more than we could possibly imagine…..at least, that’s what the Bible says.   And it also says that He has plans for us that are good….meant to help us and not to harm us…..plans to give us a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).  It’s only after you grind through the valleys and rise up the mountain on the other side that you can look back and see the purpose that He had for you during those rough days.  Commuting to and from Baltimore for the past 2 years and being apart from my family each week has sucked, but the experience has prepared me for the next step, and it’s changed me in good ways.  It’s given me more humility, through suffering, but I’m thankful for that.  Suffering is necessary in this life, I’ve come to realize.  It’s how God changes us into the person that He wants us to be.

This is all a long way of saying that I know some of you are going through rough times right now.  Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, lean on your fellow PAX, and keep your eyes on God, not on your problems.  Thank Him for the future he has in store for you….even if you can’t see it yet.  It’s there, and all it takes is faith the size of a mustard seed to make it your reality.

As I celebrate my birthday today, I give thanks for many blessings, including F3……for men that have become like brothers to me, that have been there for me during the good times and the bad.  I don’t think I’ll be in RVA a whole lot longer, but no matter where my family and I end up, it will always be my home, and the men of F3RVA will always be my brothers.

    Fudd out

  • Redskins, Bernie Sanders, and Serious Humidity

15 warriors resisted the fart sack  this morning and posted for a great start to the week.  Here’s how it went down:

9 Burpees = represents the number of points the Skins scored yesterday while being defeated.

    COP:

    Side Straddle Hop

    Copperhead Squats

    Merkins

    LBC’s

    Flutter Kicks

    Thang:

Quick lap around the neighborhood and back to the parking lot hill (going up to the blacktop).  Taking a page out of EF Hutton’s playbook we did the following:

Partner up:  Partner 1 does Bernie Sanders (Run backwards up, and run forward back down) 3 times while P2 performs Merkins and Burpees.  Then switch, until each team completes 100 merkins and 100 burpees together….

Mosey to the Top of Lindsay for the following:

-Pax Sprints down Lindsay all the way to the bottom, then partner up.  Partner carry all the way back up Lindsay….. Each time that partners switched during the carry, each man performed a set of booyah merkins…Once reaching the top of Lindsay, each man performed 3 sets of 20 partner leg tosses….

    Rinse and Repeat…

    -9 More Redskins related Burpees….

Mosey back to the flag for Ring of Fire and Cot (Gomer Pyle took us out)….

    NMS:

The humidity continued to be thick this morning in the RVA…. Mumblechatter was pretty light prior to 5:30 a.m., however, YHC learned from Honeydo that the skins lost and only scored 9 points yesterday.  Last Monday, Honeydo incorporated some Redskins statistical facts into our workout so I followed suit.

Upon YHC’s announcement of the Bernie Sanders exercise sequence, the PAX seemed almost universally unhappy with the number of Merkins and Burpees proposed….  Nonetheless we powered through….great work fellas!

Finally, Lindsay proved to be pretty difficult, particularly given the humidity levels.  That didn’t stop some PAX members from crushing it!  Also for the record, YHC hopes to never get in an official foot race of any kind with Splinter….As we sprinted down Lindsay, that dude reminded me of Justify rounding the turn for home in the Belmont Stakes… He was lightning fast while making it look like a stroll in the park….My short legs need to grow about 3 more feet to even stand a chance….Nice work Splinter!

Great to partner with EF Hutton and Handshake today….Have a great Monday!

Announcements: 4 year anniversary convergence at Dogpile. Followed by a cross country scoring event or a FNG friendly bootcamp, both at 7:05. Cookout to follow. CSAUP on 10/20 at Forest Hill Park – 7:00 a.m. start. Puppypile on 9/29.

Breaking Bread this Sunday Evening (5 or 6 p.m.).  Let me know if you’d like to join, I’ll be taking 2 of my 3 2.0’s….

  • Back to normal at Hoedown

Fifteen faithful found their way in the dark to Hoedown to find things back to the normal school routine:

Cop – SSH, Don Qs, Scorpion kicks, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Hillbillies. Redskins tribute: 24 Burpees for 24 pts in their win yesterday.

Mosey to Blacktop for 4 Corners: 10 V-Ups, 20, Hand Release Merkins, 30 Jump Squats, 40 WWII Situps. Partner up- Wheelbarrow width of blacktop, each man twice.

Head to field- 2 sets of sprints up n back. Then 3 sets of PLTs. Partners head to wall. 3 rounds of altnerating Donkey Kicks while other runs field, 5 pull ups and back. Then down to drop off circle for Triple Check of B2W, Flutterkicks, and run loop. Finish with 30 American Hammers. Handshake took us out.

NMS – School is back in session, 15 PAX at Hoedown, AO is dangerously dark, Saab talked about fallic symbols, Fudd was LIFO, and all is right with the world. 24 Burpees in the cop was a bit much bit HTTR!

We had 2 BRR runners post with Saab and Gomer Pyle, Aye!  They both looked fine after their long weekend. Mumblechatter was more about the Kubota/Gumbo Dogpile beat down than BRR stories.

Good to have Flange and Buttermilk out. And good words from Handshake at the end, can’t believe it has been 6 months. Time flies in the Gloom…

Announcements – 4 Year Anniversary next Saturday 9/22 and Slurpee has Breaking Bread on 9/23. He could use some more hands.

Have a great week men, Silent Assassin signing off.

  • Football season is almost upon us

12 athletic behemoth PAX and the Fireman showed up to witness the Fireman’s second q on a low 70s humid morning.

Even though I am a Jets fan, I am excited about football season coming upon us in 6 days for college and 10 for NFL.  Our exercise routine went a little something like this:

Warm up:  In honor of Spinal Tap, 11 Don quixotes, 11 helicopters; then 20 Side Straddle hops, 20 Freddie Mercurys and 10 forward arm circles and 10 backward arm circles.

First exercise:  Mosey to parking lot at corner of ridge and forest, partner one lunges with the partner 2 does 5 burpees, partner 2 catches up to partner 1 and they switch.  Probably ended up doing 35-45 burpees unless you are Splinter and Jack Sparrow whose strides are super long; they probably did 20-30 burpees.

Second exercise:  Mosey to adjacent parking lot.  Bear crawl from one corner to the next corner, jog to next corner, 16 WWIIs, bear crawl to next corner, jog to next corner, 16 Merkins.  Repeato with backward crabwalks (or since I wasn’t clear on direction choose some form of crabwalk, do 32 LBCs and 32 jump squats).

Third exercise:  Mosey around adjacent neighborhood with a friendly somewhat dark jog (SilverSpring road to Spottswood to forest, first right to intersection).  Year NFL founded was according to wiki: 1920.   Run to end of culdesac, 19 merkins, run backwards back, 19 more merkins.  Repeato with 20 2 count mountain climbers.  then repeat with partner wheelbarrows.

Fourth exercise:  Mosey back to Tuckahoe and do 100 combined partner leg tosses

Lastly:  Kubota took over with a merkin ring of fire (or Mary).

Announcements:  Puppy pile went really well last Saturday.  Looking for a date in September with only limited conflicts.

Labor Day convergence.  Admittedly, I missed the other announcements but I think there is a big race at forest Hill Park in October.

I closed the group in prayer.

General Musings:  I mentioned to the group to try to not make puppy pile on 9/29 because of the Penn State/Ohio State game to which the response was “Is the game in the morning?” and I said “no” but neglected to tell them I would be in Pennsylvania for the game so while I am tailgating and getting fat, by all means have puppy pile.

    Warmest Regards, the Fireman

  • Back in the Saddle At Hoedown

The Great Eight posted for a Monday workout and here is what they got.

    COP

    • 10 Burpees – Welcome back from vacation!  A gift from YHC to YHC (and the Pax)
    • Helicopters
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Don Quixote
    • HRM (or DRM at the Hoedown)
    • LBC

Mosey down Lindsey and ford the stream to Dogwood Park.

Perform the Anhinga across the field.  YHC crafted this exercise after watching this bird in its natural element.  We performed the following in our interpretation:  Army crawl 10 paces and launch into a burpee.  Repeat until you have traversed the field and perform SSH.

    Triple Check!

    • Karaoke across the field, crawl bear up the hill, bear crawl down the hill, karaoke back across the field
    • Elbow Planks
    • Monkey Humpers

Over to the playground equipment for Lindseys:  Dips and American Hammers

Back across the stream and slow mosey (conversational strut) to the base of the hill.  Partner up for piggy back rides to the top of the hill stop sign.

Mosey back to the school and to the bars and find a new partner:

    • Jerkins – 3 sets of 7 reps.
    • PLTs – 3 sets of 25
    • 8 4-count BooYah Merkins
    • 20 right oblique crunches
    • 8 4-count BooYah Merkins
    • 20 left oblique crunches

Back to the VSF for some Mary:  Flutter Kicks and APDs.

    YHC took us out.

    NMS

With the summer tour and vacation in the rear view mirror it was time to return to Hoedown, YHC’s hometown AO.  Typical for a Monday, it was raining and dark at the AO upon first arrival.  A Hoedown signature look.

The stream crossing in the dark is a little tricky, but the Dogwood Park extension brings a fresh venue to this AO and well worth the trip.  YHC noticed nobody wanted to be his partner for the partner carries and Fudd received this weight by process of elimination.  I take it as a sign that we need some heavier Pax in our midst, or its time to lose a few more pounds.  Fudd handled the weight well, those his strides were heavy.

    Announcements:

    • Puppy Pile this Saturday
    • Fireman Ed has next Monday’s Hoedown Q.  If you missed his first, go ahead and be here for the second time around.
    • Labor Day convergence – see pre-blast

    Time to Taper,

    Lockjaw

  • Hoedown with the Fireman

9 hardened veterans in total showed up at Hoedown this morning.  Thankfully the rain ended last night and the morning was actually not bad at 69 degrees and humid.

The Fireman started things off promptly at 5:30 which seemed to surprise Garbage Plate and Bodos.

The hoedown went a little something like this:

Warm up:  20 Side Straddle hops, 20 Don Quixotes, 20 Arm Circles and 20 Mercans

Mosey to one of the nearby parking lot on Forest asked the PAX the last time the Jets won a SuperBowl and the answer was 1969.  As a result we did 19 Carolina dry docks, 19 jump squats, 19 WWIIs and 69 2 count flutter kicks.  Then we did 19 LBCs, 19 burpees (elicited a few groans), 19 flutter kicks and 69 jump squats.  .

Mosey to Lindsay Drive.  Asked Trivia question about Mets loss to Nats of 25-4 (2nd worst loss in Mets history).  In honor of the Mets 4 runs, I has the PAX do a 4 by 4 4 corner style. This consists of 4 merkins and 4 2 count mountain climbers at the top of Lindsey do down 2/3 the way to another 4 by 4 go across the road 4 by 4 to the top again 4 by 4.  Repeat to 4 8 by 8s and then 4 12 by 12s.

Mosey to front of Tuckahoe for 100 PLTs (partner leg toss).  Then mosey to nearby parking lot for back and forth lunges followed by American hammers – 25, merkin ring of fire, HoneyDo led burpees and the last 15 side straddle hops.

Numberama followed by names, etc. and a prayer at the end by the Fireman.

    Announcements:

    Puppy pile – 8/25

CSOP (Completely stupid and utterly pointless) at Forest Hill – Viral I think you said 10/20 but correct me on that if needed

    Labor Day Convergence

    Three Lakes Park event

I had a good time Q’ing for the first time.  Admittedly I did not sleep much as I kept playing scenarios and what ifs in my head.  Great job PAX and look forward to Qing again in the near future.

    NMS:

Great work by all the PAX today!  YHC was trying to keep up with Gomer Pyle but just didn’t have enough to do it.  Great work GP!  YHC doesn’t believe anyone was woken up on Lindsay with the sounds of bricks clanking together or hitting the road.  The PAX killed the Super 21’s in quick fashion.  YHC didn’t think 45 minutes would be enough time, but we ended it with 10 minutes left.  Wish we could have gotten all the 11’s in, but time was called.  Whatchamacallits have become quite popular.  They still suck, though!  Glad to have Opus at Hoedown checking it off of the Summer Tour.

    Announcements:

Fireman Ed has his VQ at Hoedown next Monday!

Roller Coaster/HDHH this Wednesday at Kuba Kuba Dos at 5:30pm

Great work today guys, and way to get it all out!

    Kubota

  • No Driving on Sidewalks

Image result for car driving on sidewalk

Six hoe regulars convened in the bus loop, waiting for the rain.  No one signed up so we stole from Batteau this AM and hot potato’d it.  Once the rain started, off we went to the front of the school for:

    COP (Splinter)
    Invisible Jumpropes – 25
    Copperhead Squats – 25
    Don Quixotes – 10
    Mountain Climbers – 20ish
    Merkins – 10

    The Thang
Splinter continued from COP and we mosey’d over to the bus drop off lane for an impromptu series of polar bears.  Polar bear lunge the length of the bus lane, jump squatting after 5 lunges.  Turn around and come back the other direction with traditional polar bears.  Turn around again for lunge polar bears with broad jump burpees every 5 steps.  Attempt crab walk polar bear with 4 count crab cake on the way back.  Flipper completed, others switched to traditional polar bear half way through.

Toss the potato to Flipper and he led the PAX to the car pool drop off loop for triple check.  BTTW, merkins, and a lap around the loop.

Lateral the potato to Slurpee for the next round, Dora.  Exercises were merkins, flutter kicks, and squats/lunges.  Be wary of random school workers driving on sidewalks at 550am.

Transition to the parking lot for a random assortment of Mary which included 6 inches, 2 rounds of ring of fire, 6 inches, single leg APDs, freddy mercuries and LBCs.  Juvenile comments were strong this am.

COT where Pucker took us out.

    Moleskin
Nice work by the PAX this morning.  There wasn’t a single exercise in the bunch where one could catch your breath.  That’s what a hot potato will do to you.

During Dora, YHC had his eyes closed pumping out flutter kicks with the rain gently hitting my face.  I saw the car pull in the drop off loop and drive up on the sidewalk behind the PAX doing flutter kicks but didn’t think much of it.  That was until the horn blew and I looked up and saw a car about 10 feet away from me.  Whoever that was, had the nerve to drive up on the sidewalk, do a u-turn and then try to nestle right up beside the cafeteria wall.  All of this while there are about 25 parking spaces about 30 feet away.  Be on the lookout PAX.  That dude was just out of his mind.  Sorry Pucker, we may have done more flutters than necessary.  I was flustered and lost count.

Great to see Fudd again and great to see Jack Sparrow becoming a regular at the Tuckahoe AOs.  YHC was surprised when the potato was passed to him during mary and he couldn’t come up with a single ab exercise.  He quickly replied, “I don’t do abs”.

    Announcements
Amateur RAMM Gears day this Friday.  Bring your bike and have No Tools use his tools to fix it up.

    Splinter out

  • Clear Skies For the Beatdown

5 RVA regulars and an out of town visitor sat in their cars for the light show until 0529 and jumped out to get the beatdown going.  As YHC contemplated what to do in case of lightning at an AO only visited once in the middle of the night the rain started to slow.

    THANG

A few flashes took the warmup under the metal awning held up by metal posts, maybe not the best place but better than out in the open.  DQ, Helicopters, SSH, Alternating Shoulder Taps, LBC.

Mosey to the corner of the blacktop for Compounding Four Corners.

Round 1 – 5 merkins each corner; Round 2 – 5 merkins +10 Mountain Climbers in each corner; Round 3 – Do the others + 15 Squats; Round 4 – Add 20 2-ct Flutter Kicks; Round 5 – Add 20 1ct Freddie Mercuries; Round 6 – Add 15 Monkey Humpers; Round 7 – Add 10 Alternating Shoulder Taps; Round 8 – Add 5 merkins and do all the exercises together (somewhat in cadence).

Back to the flag for the COT.

    NMM

An ominous start to the week as YHC woke up to lightning and thunder, wondering how many Tuckahoeans? and/or summer travelers would post.  There is a small awing that YHC planned to stay under if the lightning stuck around but it cleared up right after COP in time for us to push though the Compounding 4 corners.  Did not realize the 4 corners would take up the whole time, plus about 45 seconds, even with the PAX pushing hard and staying together for most of it.  Those extra 45 seconds are on me, no charge for overtime this week.  It was only 180 merkins, not 200, sorry Kubota, I thought it only felt like 175.

Welcome to RVA Papa Smurf from Sarasota, up visiting family.  He lived in RVA a few years ago but took on some F3 tourism today and crushed it, posting on Twitter before leaving the car.  He confirmed that Flashdance is alive and well in Florida and has jumped into F3 down there head first.  Swiper is getting into running mode flying around between corners.  Kubota will be following YHC around this week on the summer tour.  I apologize in advance for anything new that flops this week.  First flop, cadence with single count, and 2-ct exercises.

Thanks for coming out despite the threatening weather.

    Announcements:

Prayers for Fudd’s sister as she heads into surgery later this week and grieves for her lost father-in-law.

RVA Ghostflag will be at 45MOM this week

Happy hour at Wood and Iron in Midlothian Friday at 5:30

  • Roxanne comes to Hoedown

Nine of God’s finest creations assembled at Tuckahoe Middle School for a last day of hate beatdown.  We delayed for 2 seconds for Two Can to get settled and then off we went.  Mosey up to the blacktop for something like this:

    COP
    SSH – 40
    DQ – 13
    IW – 13
    Copperhead Squats – 13
    LBCs – 40

    Moleskin
Quick saunter to the end line for a blacktop version of line drills.  This time we deconstructed a burpee then followed it up with burpees.  Run to the 1st goal, 10 merkins.  Run back to the end line then to the 2nd goal for 10 merkins and 10 jump squats.  Back to the end then to the 3rd goal for 10 merkins, 10 jump squats, and 10 leg thrusts.  Run back to the end line then to the 4th goal for 10 merkins, 10 jump squats, 10 leg thrusts, and 10 burpees.  Al Gore for the 6.

Break out the speaker for Roxanne.  BT had flashbacks to the day he started hating Jville.

Slow stroll over to the miniature field for triple check.  1 partner does jerkins while the other holds.  Third partner bear crawls down the hill and back.  Repeat for a total of 3 times.

Jog to the front of the school to locate some bike racks.  Partner up for full extension merkinfest.  3 sets of 13 with the middle set being derkins.  Grab the bike racks for full extension on the decline.

Dosey doe over to the teacher parking lot for a game of arrows.  Bear crawl between arrows and then complete 5 WWIIs at each arrow.  Modify after a few arrows to alternate between WWIIs and 4 count flutter kicks.  Plank for the 6.

Mosey over to the cafeteria wall for triple check again.  This time exercises were BTTW, donkey kicks and a lap around the loop.  After 1 iteration, swap out BTTW with people’s chair.

Circle up for numbers, names and COT with YHC taking us out.

    Moleskin
What a wonderfully humid day it is today.  YHC couldn’t think of a better way to spend it.  The PAX was fully energized, especially when the speaker appeared, allowing us to complete 27 burpees in 3 minutes and 15 seconds.  28 if you are Mr Holland who got excited and added an extra.

YHC bounced around the whole AO this morning, wanting to push himself to do a variety of exercises that are typically difficult.  Today was no different.  Thanks for playing along.

Show up tomorrow at Spider Run.  Wedding Singer suggested we play a game of Edward 40-hands tomorrow.  Only those who post will find out.

    Announcements
Puppy pile this weekend.  Wedding Singer has a puppy to spare.

    Splinter out.
