Tuckahoe Elementary

  • Just a Walk in the Dog Park

12 redwoods and a FNG showed up for perfect beat down weather.  As typical for Hoedown, it was dark and a little rainy, but 70 and sunny when we started.

Commence with 6/10ths of a mile run around to Dogwood Park.  Chase the owl away, scan for dogpiles, and a quick disclaimer as well as welcome FNG Jim.

    COP

    • Don Quixote
    • Helicopters
    • Arm Circles
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Invisible Jumprope

    Dora

    • Partner 1 – 100 Monkey Humpers, 200 LBC, 300 Flutter Kicks
    • Partner 2 – Bear Crawl up the hill and come down the hill anyway you want as long as not on two legs.

Lindsays in the playground – Derkins off of the benches/toys and American Hammers.

Those with headlights illuminated safe passage across the creek as none of the Pax fell in the water nor fell on the rocks.  This puts us out at the bottom of Lindsay Court.  Partner up.

    • Partner 1 run 4-5 driveways up and back.
    • Partner 2 does standing broad jump up the hill.  Reverso
    • Repeat with Lunges and Russian Soldiers to the top of the hill.

Mosey over to VSF for Mary:

    • Hello Dollies
    • One Legged APDs (sounds redundant, right?) – left leg and then right leg
    • Rosalitas

    Quick ring of fire.

    Honey Do took us out.

    NMS:

It was great to have a FNG out today.  The Tuckahoe nano-region was pretty nice with the names today.  Plush lives directly across the street from the AO, which is a good way to continue to join us or have to listen to us in the early morning hours outside his house.  We hope to see him out again soon.

So it turns out it wasn’t just one owl in the park.  It sounded like several.  While YHC was doing LBCs, I thought about how easy a target we would be for an owl attack.  They were certainly vocal and wanted their park back.  Perhaps Saab can tell us about his owl encounter sometime.

Nothing much to report on Lindsay other than an overwhelming smell of fruit loops in front of one drive way.  Either we stumbled across a hidden stash of the fine cereal or something else.  After consulting google, Sassafras produces a strong smell similar to fruit loops.  Now we know.

We returned to the AO and came across a refreshed Keymaster.  It was as if he was impervious to the effects of the workout and it showed in the ring of fire and mary.  #showupontimeorbeleftbehind

CSAUP is upon us.  Still not to late to join a team.

    ABT,

    Lockjaw

  • 70 Percent Chance of Rain?

7 PAX braved the rain for a sloppy beatdown that went something like this:

THE THANG.  Mosey to the blacktop for COP.  Hammer Dances, Hillbillies, Mountain Climbers, Mariah Careys, V-Ups x20 IC.

Mosey to the wall next to the gym for triple check.  Walk-Ups, Gas Pumps, and lap around the blacktop.

Mosey back to the blacktop for two rounds of Touch-A-Bench.  In Round 1, one PAX finds three benches and performs 1, 2, and 3 Box Jump Burpees while the other PAX does 12-count Clockwork Lunges, then flip flop.  In Round 2, one PAX finds three new benches and/or swings and performs 5 Derkins while the other PAX does 12-count Clockwork Lunges, then flip flop.

Mosey to the lower playground for an incline/decline Curb Crawl.  Bear Crawl down hill and Crawl Bear up hill, perform Merkins up to 5 then back to 1.

Mosey to the bottom of Lindsay Court and pair up.  One PAX performs exercises while the other runs 4 driveways ahead and runs back, then flip flop.  Exercises were Walk-Up Merkins, Backward Broad Jumps/Ankle-Breakers, Crab Walk.

Two count from Two Can and mosey back to the bus loop for some Mary.  20 American Hammers IC, then 49 Reverse Crunches IC.  COT

NMM. YHC heard there was a 70% chance of rain on the way to the AO, and on the way home, heard there was a 90% chance.  PAX arrived home with solid evidence that the actual number is about 10 points north.

Toucan mentioned that he is participating in Run Ranger Run: https://www.runrangerrun.com/Pretty cool.  YHC thinks TYA could compete with some of the team totals.  Too bad our early moseys were of the Gridiron variety.

Good to see Goldberg.  YHC thinks he heard Goldberg mention he posted to Punisher in the gloom for a solo beatdown.  Respect.  Hope to see you at Hoedown more often.

YHC snatched the Q from Upchuck at 5:29, but somehow he took it back at 6:14 for 49 reverse crunches.  Let it go!

Continued prayers to PAX grieving the loss of family members including Flatline and Lockjaw.

    Number-rama

    Name-a-rama

YHC took us out with a prayer of thanksgiving for this day and for the brothers of F3.  Lifted up the families of Fudd, Lockjaw, Sippy Cup and Circle K.

    NMS:

YHC started to get worried about the condition of the AO right after Dogpile Saturday when the current monsoon that we are having began.  YHC and Lowery (not an F3 name), YHC’s faithful four-legged 2.0, moseyed up to the AO on Sunday afternoon during a break in the weather.  The field was only suitable for Labradors that love to swim!  YHC had some exercises planned for the field using his BIG CONES, but other plans had to be made.

16 is one PAX short of tying the record at Hoedown.

Slurpee and YHC showed up early to the AO because of YHC’s anxiety with EF Hutton already there and ready to go.  Then the cars started rolling in.  I had been expecting a small group and what I got was a large one.  Never underestimate the dedication of your fellow PAX!!

YHC’s cheap timekeeping device stopped working during Mary and a guess was made after Mary was over that it was 6:15.  YHC called out Number-rama and was quickly told that we had 5 minutes left.  Thus, the Merkin ring-of-fire and Burpees.  YHC also learned that when you Q, 45 minutes seems like an hour!

YHC was relaxing on his couch Sunday evening when all of a sudden the Tweets came in!  A couple of the PAX(Honeydo and Splinter) tweeted that YHC would have a hard time sleeping last night and that he would be practicing the workout in his head all night.  YHC actually slept well until 3:45am when he woke up and laid there not wanting to miss the alarm clock.

YHC would like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement!  I had a great time and will be putting my name on the Q sheet today for future workouts!  I also want to thank Keymaster for getting me involved in my first F3 workout in October, but it is the rest of you that have kept me coming back!!

    Have a great Monday!!

  • Black Ice and Dong-release Merkins

6 shook off their Super Bowl hangover and came out to play on the black ice at Hoedown.  We did:

COP – SSH, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, V-Ups, Copperhead Squats.  Head over to 3rd Pres Parking lot for Super Bowl recap:

41s and 33s of Exercises:  Merkins & WWII Situps, Carolina Dry Docks & Gas Pumps, Freddy Mercurys & Hand Release Merkins.  Mosey back to school blacktop:

3 Sets of 25 PLTs. no feet touching ground on way down.  Jerkins – Start and 10 and descend by 2s down to 2.  Donkey Kicks and V-Ups.  Start with 20 & 10 reps, then increase reps each by 10 twice up to 40 & 30.  Then 30 more DKs just for Saab.

Head down for Triple Check – B2W, American Hammers, and run the loop.  Finish with Heels 2 Heaven.  Flipper took us out.

NMS – Small numbers this post Super Bowl at Hoedown.  Either the Hoedown PAX includes many Eagles fans or just fans of clean, honest, non-cheating football, it appears many chose the fartsack this morning.  For the 6 who did post the PAX were greeted with black ice patches all over the ground.  As we started YHC groaned as we had the dreaded 5 PAX count, making partnering difficult.  Luckily Flipper joined us in the COP to make it a good even 6.

In the 3rd Pres parking lot some PAX were feeling the Winter Olympics vibe and attempted to lunge-skate across the lot on the icy spots.  The 33 Hand-release Merkins really put a hurting on the PAX except for Splinter who mentioned that if you incorporate your dong into the merkin that it reduces the full range of motion and makes it much easier.  The PAX asked Splinter to demo this new dubbed Dong-release Merkin but he held out on a full demo.  YHC expects him to drop this on an unsuspecting PAX during a Splinter Q sometime soon.

Saab was Fuddian this morning with a need for clarification on several exercises.  Apologies go to Flipper and Offshore who had to B2W above a nasty ball of snot YHC hocked up on his round of B2W.  Offshore enjoyed YHC’s borrowing of V-Ups from Circle Ks girl’s Dogpile smokefest this weekend.  Kubota did his best to bring out the inner-Toga in YHC with his Elbow plank form.  We were lucky to have no spills in the icy conditions.

Announcements – Sign up for CSAUP Century Classic and Healing place volunteer run if you haven’t already.

  • Slip N Slide

    MARY

    Dolly X25, Keymaster (WW2 X 25), Splinter (20 Pickle Pounders)

Numberama, Namerama, and HoneyDo took us out….

    NMS

YHC appreciates 10 PAX showing up in the elements for some fun.  Mumblechatter was light, and we got right down to business.  Thanks to Keymaster for partnering during DORA, although he dealt another super, juicy bomb out of his rear (second AO in 4 days where he’s likely left a crater in the ground).  YHC is certain that his drawers and socks for that matter are ruined forever.  YHC is now thinking that perhaps a dietary intervention might be necessary in the not too distant future (as this is becoming a pattern).  Thoughts?

Needles to say, YHC was happy to partner with Ronnie for partner carries so that breathing was again possible.  Glad to see Ronnie back out after conquering the flu!

The PAX seemed apprehensive when we hit the field for Wheelbarrows as conditions were lake-like with parts resembling Woodstock…  Honeydo took a mud pie to the shoulder and face due to the slip and slide conditions, however, his recovery was remarkable.  Enjoyed partnering with you brother!

Great to see Wedding Singer and Garbage plate out at Hoedown, way to work guys!!

    Announcements:

-BT:  Toga is having knee surgery today, have him in your thoughts and prayers.

-HoneyDo is taking the lead on helping out the men of the healing place as they train for the Monument 10k.  See him for details.

Thanks for letting me lead today fellas, have a great Monday!

  • Mission Accomplished

Thirteen Monday morning regulars convened in the bus loop for today’s Hoedown.  Fudd secured his keys and off we went to the far end of the parking lot by the donation vessels for…

    COP
    20x SSH
    20x Mountain Climbers
    15x Arm Circles each way
10x Don Quixotes (9 if you got a slow start)

    The Thang
Partner up for 1K / 5K.  1000 exercises while you alternate with your partner running to the bottom of Lindsay and back.  Exercises were 100 jump squats, 200 derkins, 300 flutters, 400 LBCs.  Box cutters until exhaustion for those that finish first.

Stroll over to the drop of loop for curb crawls.  Bear crawl to the other side, 1 merkins, crawl bear back, 2 merkins, etc. up to 8.  Repeat 8 and then work your way back down to 1.  Various Al Gore positions while we wait.

Quick saunter to the lightpost at the far corner of the lot for escalating burpee lightpost.  6 lightposts, starting off at 1 burpee increasing by one at each lightpost all the way to 6.  Don Quixotes until you get light headed or the PAX finishes, whichever came first.

Speed walk over to the flag for 10x ring of fire and mary which included single leg APDs, hello dollys, american hammers and reverse plank for 60 seconds to finish it off.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out with a spring like prayer.

    Moleskin
The PAX was hungry this morning for a beatdown.  Plenty of grunts and gasps during 1K/5K.  Kudos to whomever started with jump squats.  That jaunt down Lindsay was longer than expected.  Most of the round 2 fellas never jumped a squat.

Future Hoedown Qs take notice.  There is a large street sign hidden by the shadows right at the top of Lindsay on the other side of the road.  If you decide to use that as a runway, be sure to advise the PAX of said sign in advance.

Someone softly inquired what got YHC in such a foul mood this morning.  By contrast, I had a wonderful weekend and was looking to start the week off with a bang.  You know it’s a good workout when Saab discloses that he is walking home instead of running.  Mission Accomplished!

    Announcements
    – CSAUP.  Get your teams together
    – See Upchuck or Honeydo about helping those recovering from addition train for the 10k.  Immediately following Dogpile in February and March.  Run a few miles to help those recovering.

  • What would Freud say?

Three squared showed up to square dance at Hoedown.

COP – SSH, Don Quixote, Russian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers, LBC

Mosey to the sea of blacktop and using the fence post perform an indigenous people pole smoker.  One Pax does heels to heaven while the others hold six inches with some 90 degrees thrown in.

    Triple Check 1 (three times)

    • Karaoke the length of blacktop and back
    • Box cutters
    • Scorpions

Mosey closer to the school and find new partners for Triple Check 2 (three times)

    • Bear crawl across the grass and back
    • Jerkins

Mosey the bus loop for Triple Check 3 (three times) with new partners

    • Run the bus loop – backwards outbound, forwards inbound
    • BTTW
    • Flutter kicks

    PLT – 25 reps, 3 times through

    Mary – APDs, Hello Dolly

A flu free Up Chuck took us out.

    NMS:

It was nice and chilly to start the week off.  No fear, YHC and Honey Do kept the knees bare.  The pole smokers and box cutters gave us at least two opportunities to observe shooting stars.  Always a sight of wonder no matter how old you are or how many times you see one.

Mumble chatter through the COP centered around Marv’s dream about Fudd.  Yes, Fudd.  In this dream Fudd is the Q and as the Pax completes an exercise, Fudd would evangelically shout “Glory to God!”.  Eventually, the Pax turn on Fudd and beat him down mercilessly.  Marv takes Fudd to the hospital.  (Marv, did I get this right?)

There is certainly some dream analysis to be explored…..

Starbucks provided great 2nd F for about half of the Pax.  Coffee and great conversation post workout makes the day!

I will leave you to comment on that dream sequence.  Someone in the Pax clearly has some insight here.

  • 70 and Sunny

10 Strong came out to play in the snow, here’s how it went down:

    COP

    Side Straddle Hop (15 count)

    Merkins (10 count)

    Flutter Kicks (15 count)

    Don Q (10 count)

    LBC’s (15 count)

-Take a long lap around the neighborhood, back to parking lot…

    THANG

-Page out of EF Hutton’s playbook.  Partner Up- Bernie Sanders up and Down Hill while partner does burpees.  Switch and continue until total 100 burpees.

-Up to the Field  = Stay with Partner for DORA

    100 Merkins

    200 Squats

    300 LBC’s

-Partner UP:  Wheelbarrow to 25 yard line, 50 yard line, and 75 yard line (stop at each and do 10 Merkins).  End of Field, switch and other partner pushes, rinse and repeat on way back.  Audible at 50 yard line on way back, time to Mosey back to the flag…

Mary – Tossed the Potato to Kubota for some ab work!

    NMS:

YHC was very impressed by the PAX this morning….  To my knowledge, despite the repetitive potential pitfalls (ice, snow, curb, ice, now curb, step), nobody took a tumble.  This was especially remarkable during Bernie Sanders up and down the hill (thanks EF Hutton for starting this a month or two back).

Kubota got his feet wet and did a great job with cadence during Mary, well done.  Fudd took us out (thanks buddy).  Well done today guys, great start to the week.

    Numberama, Name Aroma….

    Announcements: None, it’s cold!

  • You know it is cold when

When you have 4 more PAX than degrees in the gloom you are in for a good start to 2018.  16 PAX (including 1 FNG) braved the cold to start out the New Year at Hoedown.  It went down like this:

COP – Invisible Jump Rope, SSH, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Helicopter.  Head to back field for:

Beast – Merkins, Jump Squats, Heels2Heaven, CDDs, WWII, & Burpees (YES THERE WERE 6 ROUNDS)

Partner up for Pullups – 3 Sets of 10.  Then Partner up (?) for Triple Check – Jerkins while 3rd man runs around Bus Loop.  Head over to bottom of school front.  Bear Crawl up hill, 15 Merkins, Crab Walk back down then 40 Copperhead Squats.  Repeato.

Back to COP area for Mary:  Box Cutter, Windshield Wipers, Alabama Prom Dates, LBCs.  Mosey back to Flag.  Finish with 12 Burpees and Flatline took us out.

NMS – YHC was unsure how many would post but was excited to see a half-dozen cars already at the AO when he arrived.  Splinter was there sans car, having chosen to run a mile from his house to the AO, Aye!  Welcome to FNG Ginger, posting in 12 degree weather means either the 2 PAX who EH’ed you really care for you or they don’t like you very much.  Also great to see Clavin back at it in the Gloom!

When we arrived at the back field many PAX saw a football and wondered if YHC had placed it there.  Alas playing football on frozen ground is too stupid even for YHC.  There was confusion on the last round of the Beast as many PAX seemed to be wanting more rounds.  During the Beast there was discussion on Upchuck’s supposed completion of the Corporate challenge last week to close out 2017 but until the Gridiron BB is posted his feat will remain unofficial.

We had to cut the Triple Check short with the Jerkins as that was too much arm work.  Offshore and Jenny Craig were dressed identically in grey pants and Blue Jackets along with facemasks making it impossible to distinguish between the two.  Speaking of pants only 4 bare knees were showing, well done Kubota.  Spit apparently double dipped having shown at River Run by himself this morning.  Respect!  All RVA regions were represented, with Clavin being the lone RP member to post.  Coffeteria was at Starbucks where Mr Holland treated everyone attendance, thanks brother.

    Happy New Year!

  • Jauchzet, frohlocket, auf preiset die Tage!

Three brave souls overcame lack of sleep, holiday sluggishness, and a biting wind to get in the Christmas Spirit. What happened was as follows:

Mosey through the neighborhood, to ensure that the children were, indeed, all nestled safe in their beds.

COP: SSH, Don Q, arm circles, LBC, merkins.

    The Elves

Elves spend their days toiling away in the workshop (American Hammers) until, exhausted, they lie down…only to rise back up again (WWIIs). After 3 rounds of increasing number (10, 15, 25), it was time to load the sleigh. One man planks beside a bench, another holds his feet while he lifts himself onto the bench. 10 Derkins, rotate, repeat x3.

    Santa

Santa travels the Four Corners of the world – and back again – in a single night, and so did we. 20 in each location: merkins, squats, box cutters, burpies. repeat each corner on the way back to the start.

    Church

Mosey to the church across the street for an 11 Service entitled “Go Tell It On The Mountain.” 10 mountain climbers/1 copperhead squat; karaoke across parking lot; 2/9, etc. At the “Amen,” mosey back to the school for a quick Rosie Ring of Fire. YHC’s gift to the others was one minute each of free time at the end.

    Moleskin

Today already being pretty themed on its own, YHC found it tough to break the mold, but it got us into the Christmas Spirit nonetheless. This fall/winter season has been a huge lifestyle shift for me, coming out of several years of more or less abject sloth and inactivity, and I have you fine gentlemen to thank for that. As we gather with friends and family over the next few days, I’ll raise a glass and do a merkin for my community in the gloom. Cheers, all.
