Tuckahoe Elementary

  • Proper trimming leads to better results

14 strong gathered at Hoedown to enjoy the properly maintained grassy sections of TES. It only rained when the PAX were facing skyward on the ground. It went down with:

COP – Invisible Jump Ropes, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Freddy Mercurys. Head up to top field, partner up- 50 Pull-ups between 2 partners.

Face school- Bear Crawl across field, lunge back. Then broad jump across field, lunge back. Partner up – Wheelbarrow across and back. Then Crab Walk, lunge back.

Line up for Human Centipede. 1 time through. Mosey to 3rd Prez Parking lot. Derkins down by five from 20 across lot. Karaoke across. Then 15 Jump Squats each end 4 time.

Back to front of school for 3 sets of 20 PLTs. Fish up with 3 sets of: 20 Donkey Kicks and 5 Burpees. COT and Marv took us out.

NMS – The rain started as soon as we started Freddy Mercurys but stopped and held off until we hit the ground again for PLTs near the end. Otherwise perfect weather. And nice to cover an AO without the need of a machete. The PAX does enjoy a trimmed AO to play with, maybe except Saab who prefers the 70s style he grew up with.

The upper field was plent bright but just dark enough to keep form police at bay. The 50 Pull-ups to start woke the pax up and made for fun as some taller pax had to improvise on the playsets.

The 3rd Prez Parking lot offers a well lit space to play with. The Hoedown AO continues to expand. Abut half the pax ran in to the AO and Marv is dreaming of the day he can resume that tradition.

Announcements – Puppy pile and optional 2nd hour of Dogpile this Saturday.

  • Paradise

A Mighty 12 came out for a wet Hoedown and to see the AO that last week’s inaugural seventeen have been talking about.

It started out in the bus loop with COP:

    • Invisible Jump Rope (bringing a little Punisher to Hoedown)
    • Copperhead Squats
    • Slow Don Quixotes
    • Russian Soldiers

Mosey down Lindsay Drive to Lindsay Court all the way down the hill to the end.  Time for some Lindsays.  Start with 30 merkins and 10 Box Cutters flipping positions and increasing/decreasing count by five til you are at 10 and 30.

Partner up for Catch Me If You Can.  Partner 1 runs up the hill backwards while partner 2 does three burpees and runs to their partner.  Swap roles and repeat until you reach the stop sign.

Cross the road and bear crawl up the hill.  Mosey to the back play ground for modified 4 Corners.  It’s modified in that three of the stations are in a row and a fourth across the track.  At the end of the day, 4 stations and a lap around the track.

    • Station 1 – Derkins with legs suspended by swings
    • Station 2 – Suspend yourself from the monkey bars and leg lifts
    • Station 3 – Dips off the benches
    • Station 4- Box Jumps

20 of each exercise and repeato 3 times.

Finish up with 11s – WWII, run across the field, Scorpions

Mosey Back to SF.  Labrat took us out.

    NMS:

After last week’s total darkness, we had more ambient light even with the clouds and rain.  Headlights aided us in our workout trek this morning.  Saab called the Lindsays “Lazy Lindsays” since we didn’t run between exercises.  Commentary was quickly replaced by grunting and gyrations in the street as the full effect of the Lindsay was experienced.  YHC chose that spot in proximity to a potential EH mark.  Nothing says come out and play like twelve guys in your street working out.

For those who came for the Lockjaw history lesson, as you were running backwards up the road there was a place of significance to your right.  There is an 1830s farmhouse owned by Dr. Patterson named Paradise.  This is where Tuckhoe Elementary held their first classes in the basement prior to the construction of the current school.  Besides being a local doctor, he was a captain of the tobacco industry founding the Lucky Strike brand among others.  As you can probably deduce, Patterson Avenue is named after him since it went through his land.

Finally, the box jumps and derkins were a special challenge.  Derkins off of a moving swing is a good core exercise as well.  The box jumps were on a four cornered spring device.  When the Pax hit is just right it would catapult the Pax on the opposing side like a trampoline.  Timing is everything.

    Announcements:

    • For those driving to Hoedown, do not park in the row of spaces adjacent to the bus loop.  Early arriving teachers prefer these spots.  Let’s keep the peace in our new AO.
    •   Upchuck is starting up a double dog dare monthly workout on October 21.  Come for Dogpile and stay for a second hour.  This month it coincides with Puppy Pile, but ongoing it may not.
    • Puppy Pile on October 21 @ 7am.  Kid friendly workout at the Carillon.

    Time to Taper,

    Lockjaw

  • The Piccolo and a Hoedown

Seventeen Tuckahoeians (Tuckahoegans?) gathered around the bus loop for their first ever Hoedown.  5 arrived on foot, only one brave sole one 2 wheels, the others by traditional means.  The excitement was high this morning.  Mosey to the giant paved ocean for COP:

    COP
    SSH x20
    MC x20
Arm Circles forward / backwards x15
    Copperhead Squats x15

    The Thang
Mosey to the front of the school for some Dora.  Partner up for a combined 100/200/300 of 3 different exercises.  Exercises were incline merkins, box jumps, LBCs.  One partner runs down the sidewalk & stairs to the parking lot & returns while the other performs exercises.  Plankorama when done.

Slide around to the back of the school by the gym for the first iteration of triple check.  Jerkins, Al Gore while third partner bear crawls down the hill and back up.  More Al Gore while the PAX completes.

Pass to Lockjaw for indigenous people pole smoker run.  Everyone grab a pole (virtual or otherwise) and complete flutter kicks.  Person at the end of the line does 5 HTH then runs to the front.  Complete 2 times through.

Quick skip over to the concrete pad by the bus loop.  Second round of triple check including BTTW, elbow plank and lap around the bus loop.

Potporri of exercises to close us out including 25 donkey kicks, ring of fire, box cutters and APDs.

BOM & Honeydo took us out.

    Moleskin
Heck of a great first morning for a Hoedown.  YHC would have been happy with 5 or 6 but in the end we had 17.  Two Can was happy that he could wake up and drive 90 seconds to the AO.  He was still LIFO.

They AO may be small, but there are plenty of areas to explore.  No lack of jungle gyms to use for various exercises.  The back field may be best used during a full moon as it is quite dark back there.

Fudd announced to the PAX the exact location where he learned to play the piccolo.  He may have been by himself while he was learning.  Not exactly sure.

Great to see faces YHC normally sees scattered across the various AOs.  Hoedown is on the Q signup sheet so sign up for weeks to come.
