Tuckahoe Elementary

  • Classic Rewind on Cue

Thirteen, that’s right, thirteen of the hoe’s and near-hoe’s finest, gathered in the fading gloom for this week’s iteration of Hoedown. After the celebration of Oyster’s arrival, we avoided the petting zoo gifts and mosey’d to the front of the school for:

    COP

    • 25x SSH
    • 10x DQ
    • 20x Copperhead Squats
    • 20x LBCs
    • 10x HRMs
    • 10x Mountain Climbers
    • 10x Side (not front) lunges

    The Thang

Mosey back to the top of Lindsay Ct and partner up. With odd numbers, YHC joined forces with NTB and Señor Frog. Inverse love hill. Partner 1 runs to the bottom and back while partner 2 does exercises. Flapjack and continue until you reach the bottom of the hill. Exercises were crab walks, lunges, broad jumps.

10 count followed by 20 merkins.

Back up the hill. Same partners, this time exercises were polar bears, duck walks, broad jump burpees. Tons of excitement as we went back up the hill. Al Gore at the top for the 6.

Short saunter back over to the traditional 11s place for, you guessed it, 11s. Bernie to the hill and up it, WWIIs at the top. Mitt Romney back to the other side for jump squats.

Circle back up for 4 MoM which included 10x APDs, 20x freddie mercuries, 10x HTHs, 20x american hammers.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

    Moleskine

Upper 40s brought out some overdressed PAX members. Even with the extra layers, energy level was quite high today. Oyster even earned a round of applause for joining pre-launch.

BB title comes from the impeccable timing of Classic Rewind this am. As YHC got in the car to depart, Bicycle Race by Queen started on the radio. With a fade in effect as if they were waiting for me to start the car. Must have been the Freddie Mercuries we did during Mary.

    MOLESKIN

Topic of the morning centered around Bodos’ ability to quick change between the Traditional and Contemporary service, including hair gel, temporary tattoos, skinny jeans, and Jars of Clay.  The PAX also learned that Bodos knew the Pope personally and can identify birds by their chirps but is still working on the translation.  YHC mentioned the joke clip of a man identifying a mockingbird only to have the mockingbird mock the man back.  Salt Lick was overly entertained.

    CSAUP

  • Rebound numbers from last week

11 energetic PAX chose to start their week of right at Hoedown. Before we started Pigskin was weary off a tax-day theme repeat from last year but YHC grabbed the Q to get his ass out of the fartsack. No tax theme just some basics:

COP in staff lot: SSH, Don Qs, Ukrainian Soldiers, Merkins, Reverse Crunch, Scorpion Kicks.

Mosey to the 3rd parking lot for 4 corners: 10 burpees, 20 HRMs, 30 Jump Squats, 40 LBCs. Head over to the RiteAid parking lot and partner up for a Dora: 100 HRMs, 200 Heels2Heaven, 300 SSH. Mosey back over to TES bus loop for Handshake’s Sexteplet-check with partners and an array of exercises while timer runs the loop.

Finish up with 2 rounds of 25 PLTs and burpees to close us out.

Announcements: Bridge is starting back up in 2 weeks on Saturday. Century classic on 5/2. Marv was so stirred by the pitch he HC’ed on the spot!

NMS: No need for long sleeves or cold-weather gloves this morning. Handshake opted for no-sleeves at all, getting the guns out early for summer. Marv shared that is crushed the Monument 10k Saturday with a blistering 44 minutes. Makes sense since he does good work at the Siegel center during the season as well. Good to have 11 out this morning after Senor Frog posted Solo last week.

  • Hoe Down is open for business

    S. Frog opened Hoedown at 5:30AM.

    S. Frog closed Hoedown at 5:40AM.

    S. Frog went to the DEEP.

  • 12-Count

Follow the light of a lantern across a babbling brook to the hoedown in the woods. We explored new territory to do wheelbarrow races, merry-go-round pull ups, and soccer drills. 12-count exercises to mark my son’s 12th birthday today.

Upchuck announced upcoming trips to the Bridge in April and May

  • Who got that Q?

At 2200 hours on Sunday, March 23rd YHC checked the Q sheet and saw it was empty. YHC felt compelled to rectify the situation and signed up.

0529 hours on Monday, March 24th YHC pulled into the Parking Lot to see a crowd of men looking for their Q. Cheers of jubilation we let out scaring the neighbors.

0530 hours we stepped off following Senor Frog. 5 steps in a hard right was taken so that Senor Frog could remember who the Q was. We moseyed down Lindsay for a warm up. Various exercises completed. Next up grab 2 partners for a Triple Check. 1st man runs to the 6th car on the left (not the first car on the right, insert eye towards Valadelay).

Next up mosey back to the 6th car on the right. P1 Bernies up the Hill, P2 does 5 WWII’s then Bernies, P3 does 10 WWII’s then Bernie. When P1 gets to the top he does 15 WWII’s.

    Mosey from the top of Lindsay Court up the Recess Yard. Four Corners. C1 40 2-Count SSH’s, C2 10 Squats then 5 Pull Ups x 3, C3 10 2-Count Australian Mountain Climbers x 2, C4 100 LBC’s.

Mosey to the top of the ramp at the Door into the school. Bear Crawl down the Ramp.

Next up a game of Centipede. Mosey down/up/over/various ramps trying to not get caught by the Q.

    Finish with some Mary.

Announcements- Century Classic Friday-Saturday May 2nd-3rd (overnight). Breaking Bread, April is full. The Bridge.

    Prayer Requests – none

NMS – good times. A new exercise was officially released today, The Senor Frog Release Merkin. It will exercise you Arms/Shoulders/Back

  • Luck of the Irish

Nine made perfect numbers for triple check, despite the Pax’s desire to form teams of 4, 2, and 3. But first, off to the small parking lot for COP – hitting the usuals.

Once warmed up, we moseyed to the lucky horseshoe for triple check.

Triple Check 1 – run the horseshoe, BTTW, donkey kicks

Triple Check 2 – run the horseshoe, HRM, LBCs

Triple Check 3 – run the horseshoe, flutter kicks, squats

Triple Check 4 – run the horseshoe, box cutters, Carolina dry docks

Triple Check 5 – run the horseshoe, right oblique crunch, left oblique crunch

Some stretching at the end kept us loose. YHC took us out.

The Bridge will be back in the Spring.

  • Where’s My Hat?

The Great 8 skated to another win over the Fart Sack in the latest edition of The Hoedown. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the guy with a light in his pocket, the following might have happened:

Mosey to the street, grass, circle, grass, steps, and grass for the COP.

    100 SSHs
    Dead Man Hang
    Fudd’s Wife
    Right Leg High, then pigeon
    Wilson’s Wife
    Fudd’s Wife
    Left leg high, then pigeon
    HRMs
    LBCs
    Flutters
    Box Cutters
    Imperial Walkers

Mosey Across Forest to the 3rd Church (Don’t you dare call it Third Presbyterian)

Partner Up. Dora 1-2-3. Each man does 50 ‘mercans, then the team does 100 4-count flutter kicks, and 200 SSHs. 3 boo-yah ‘mercans with each transition.

Mosey to the front of the school. Elevens. ‘Mercans and squats. Try to pick the right tree, or run to the bottom of the stairs, you choose. Reverse crunches for the six.

Mosey to various spots on the front lawn. Circle up. Do things like WWIIs, flutter kicks, hello dolly, and so forth.

Mosey BTTVSF. Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    Joey’s Hot Dogs. Tuesday. Noon.

    3rd F Opportunities:

As mentioned recently in the interview with Dark Helmet that many of us read (and which was posted on Slack), the 3rd F is not about religion, but about getting yourself right with the world around you (for some folks, this can be religious or religion might be a part of it). The key aspect is to contribute to things bigger than yourself. Many guys contribute extensively (and some guys…we would encourage them to join us, support us, and make an impact). Whichever you are, let’s go!

Breaking Bread continues. For those newer to F3RVA, this is F3RVA’s long-time volunteer opportunity, going on about 9 years. If you haven’t taken the opportunity to contribute, check it out. Sign up on the Q Sheet, contact Oyster for directions, and make a difference.

The Bridge is back…this is a transitional facility where guys moving from the prison system to the free world learn skills that will, hopefully, help them to earn a living and stay on the straight path. We had tremendous success this fall, and we’ll have dates for the spring shortly.

  • 70* & Sunny

Six men started the week at Hoedown this morning full of hopes, dreams and positive affirmations until they realized YHC brought cold coupons. I was just thinking in my reptilian brain “I can’t feel my flippers” when I noticed we were missing a man…. I guess he got cold feet also. Or maybe a forgotten tooth to drill. Maybe I’ll bring him some better mittens next time.

    COP- Introductions & Disclaimers.

Mosey to big church near Patterson rd. While scoping out Bodos’s competition we partnered up for a triple check. Dips while timer runs around play ground. X3

Mosey to front of church. Timer ran up and down steps while partner did some arm exercises. X3.

Mosey to front right corner of parking lot for some sprints and LBC’s. X3

Mosey back to flag with a few squats along the way.

We did some Mary Get-Ups until Handshake called time.

    YHC took us out.

Thank You for letting me lead! I can’t think of a better way to start my day!

  • What was his name?

A lucky 6 gathered for this weeks Hoedown. With no name on the Q sheet at 8:00 last night YHC took the opportunity to sign up. Perfect numbers for partner work or a Triple Check but neither were to be found today.

Mosey down Forest with a left on Spottswood and after some quick Monkey Humpers in 1-800s driveway we moseyed up all the way up Spottswood through the Dogleg and all the way to the end. Mosey to the first mailbox then complete 10 of an exercise, then mosey back and to the second mailbox and 20 of an exercise repeating all the way to 100 exercises. Quick stop at 1-800’s driveway again on the way back and we made it to the flag with 20 seconds to spare.

NMS – good times, Honeydo was a good sport after being made fun of for his fabulous shorts. Also, with his “busy” weekend he be became the butt of the jokes.
