  • 4 Corners on Repeat

Four regulars showed up for this week’s edition of Hoedown. No one had signed up for the queue but someone had put down “hawt potato” which the PAX seemed to think meant Handshake would be joining. At 0530 with no sign of Handshake, the PAX set off for what would be a hot potato.

We moseyed to the Third Church parking lot across from the school where 1-800 lead warm up that included SSHs, DQs, Dead Man Hang, Arm Circles, Merkins, LBCs.

We then moseyed behind the church over to the lot between the church and office buildings. 1-800 called a Four Corners: 10 jump squats, 20 carolina dry docks, 30 monkey humpers, 40 2-count american hammers. Oyster then called a reverso.

EF Hutton took the queue and we moseyed back to the school and around the back to the upper field. We had a quick interlude of three rounds of a PAX member doing pulling ups while the rest held plank. Being popular today and the PAX wanting to keep together, another Four Corners. 10 HR Merkins, 20 Imperial Squats, 30 WWIIs, 40 SSHs. Then, reverso, but freddie mercuries instead of WWIIs.

Marv took over and led us down to the black top for another Four Corners. 5 burpees, 20 LBCs, 30 APBs, 40 SSHs. Reverso, but bear crawl the shorts, swap LBCs for American Hammers and APBs for Hello Dollies..

Mosey down the drop off circle with a stop for 10 jerkins. 20 donkey kicks on the wall, then back up for 10 more jerkins and return for a final 20 donkey kicks.

Mosey back to the flag for a quick round of mary.

    Marv took us out.

  • Cold Weather Gloves season

Eight strong started their December off in the Gloom and were met with temps in the 20s.

COP of basics. Mosey down Hepler with some stops along with way for Merkins, WWIIs. Get to end of Hepler. Partner up for Dora123: 100 Merkins, 200 Jump Squats, 300 LBCs. Mosey across Forest over Spottswood. Stop for more Merkins, Heels 2 Heaven. End up in 3rd Parking lot. Bear Crawl halfway, run to end then Merkins. Repeato x2 but Crab Walk & lunge.

Back to parking loop. Double check of run loop & Ball2Wall, Peoples chair. Finish with 3 min of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS: Was great to see Senior Frog waiting when YHC pulled in. Sounds like he had a long eventful trip to the South Pole, congrats SF! Oyster was pestering Bodos to setup a meeting with the Mayor Elect to petition for some heated-outdoor Pickleball courts in the City. Good to have Vandalay out at Hoedown.

  • Crisp, Clear Morning in Tuckahoe

6 RVA Pax and 1 downrange from Valdosta, GA gathered in the gloom for this week’s edition of Hoedown. With no one on the Q sheet, YHC said he had a plan so off we went.

Mosey to the closest Third Church parking lot for warm up that included Dead Man Hang, Don Quixote, Arm Circles, Merkins, Freddie Mercuries.

Mosey to the far Third Church parking lot for a Triple Check. P1 runs around the lot. P2 does squats. P3 does WWIIs.

    Next, Four Corners. Corner 1 – 10 Merkins. Corner 2 – 20 jump squats. Corner 3 – 30 monkey humpers. Corner 4 – 40 side straddle hops.

Mosey back to Silverspring for parked car bingo. 2 burpees for pick up trucks.  5 merkins for each SUV.  5 squats for a car/crossover/wagon.  After completing the loop down Silverspring and connecting back to Forest, the PAX agreed that the neighborhood has entirely too many SUVs.  YHC believes the merkin count hit 80 merkins by the end of the loop.

Mosey back across Forest to Tuckahoe for 11s.  The pax picked Carolina dry docks and American hammers.

With a few minutes left, mosey to the flag for some mary.  Exercises included APBs, Heels to heaven, WWIs, leg lifts, spelling HOEDOWN with your legs.

  • We Were All “Who’s This Guy?” Once

As I was sitting in my car at 5:27am in the otherwise empty Tuckahoe Elementary Parking lot I began to wonder what I was going to do if no one showed up to Hoedown on this November Monday. Do I do a workout by myself out of spite (kinda like Conspiracy did that one time he was late and TYA immediately bolted up Kingscrest at Munford)? Do I go home and go back to the sack? Maybe I just go for a run, although I’m not wearing my running shoes? What’s the protocol here?

Fortunately, three other west enders showed up, including Vandelay, who apparently was talked into coming by some guys at Libbie Market over the weekend. Good work by those guys getting Vandelay back in the saddle…and also well done talking someone into going and not showing up yourself. It has been a bit light at Hoedown lately.

The Q itself wasn’t all that noteworthy.

Basic COT to begin with…some dead man hangs, a runner’s stretch, arm circles, 25 2 count side straddle hops.

Down to Lindsay, partner up. Pretty simplistic run to the top and back while the partner is lunging, bear crawling and crab walking.

Same deal on Paris next to Lindsay.

Same-ish deal on the soccer field at Tuckahoe…except it was dips and pullups while YHC unsuccessfully tried to kick a soccer ball into the goal.

Some donkey kicks and American Hammers to finish.

In between we knocked out fifty two-count Mercans. Here Here.

Quick Pigskin appreciation post– When Pigskin first came out to Hoedown, it was definitely a “Who’s This Guy?” situation. His in cadence included numbering in all different kinds of languages, including, but not limited to, Spanish, German and could that be Russian? It was a lot for the guys at Hoedown to take…we’re not into change and, by and large, it isn’t a group that calls a ton of attention to themselves. To jump out and start speaking Russian on your first day requires some intestinal fortitude…but there he was, all 70 years-ish old making us all look like out of shape schlubs as he sprite-ed around TES hammering away burpees like he was doing 12oz curls.

I’m inspired each and every day I work out with Pigskin. I’m come to enjoy the multi-lingual cadence counting, it’s pretty charming when you think about it…Shaka Smart would always say “Variety is the spice of life!” Russian language is spice, for sure. You tell me that age 72 I’m running around a snobby west end elementary school in the dark before the sun rises and I’ll absolutely take it right now, no questions asked.

This Thursday I’m heading to Charleston on a business deal and I plan to workout with those guys somewhere down there. I guess, on that morning, I’ll be “that guy” of the “who is this guy” fame. Maybe I’ll brush up on some of my non-existent Russian.

  • Three dudes and the frozen food truck

Light crowd at Hoedown this morning where three dudes gathered to kick off the week.

After a fantastic COP, a burpee 5 min drill, several Dora’s, a together triple check and 150 too many Supermans we wrapped up with some announcements and YHC took us out.

Sorry to those who missed the fun. There was a Bodosmobile sighting in the church lot but no Bodos today. The frozen food truck was all up in our business during warm up, must have been a new driver. The rest of the morning’s details are classified.

  • Fudd for Five

Five came out to Hoedown with the time change. We started with 4 but Fudd joined us in the COP.

COP: SSH, IWs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks.

mosey to 3rd parking lot for 4 corners. 1st round: Merkins, WWIIs, Heels 2Heaven, SSH. 2nd round: 10 Merkins, increase Merkin count by 5.

Over to Walgreens lot. Alternate 1 Burpee and 5 Squats each spot. 2nd round 10 Merkins & 5 Jump Squats.

Mosey back to front of TES. 3 rounds of PLTs. Some other Ab stuff. Run parking loop and Balls 2 Wall. Finish with 3 min of Mary.

NMS: RVAs darkest AO was still pitch black with the time change. Solid group this morning. Merkin count was 200.

  • Starry Morning in Tuckahoe

Five gathered under the stars for this week’s edition of Hoedown. We started with a mosey down Lindsay and circled up at the bottom for a warm up that included dead man hang, both wives, merkins, WW2s, flutter kicks, APBs, imperial walkers and SSHs.

Being at the bottom of the hill, we needed to get back. We partnered up to head back up. P1 runs to the top of the hill and back down. P2 does bear crawl, lunges, polar bear and crab walk.

Now back at the top, we headed over to the parking lot for 11s. Start with HR merkins (1) then run across the lot (but not up the hill) and jump squats (10).

Mosey up to the black top for 4 corners x2. First round consisted of burpees (10), squats (20), freddie mercuries (30), SSHs (40). Second round consisted of merkins (10), heels to heaven (20), carolina dry docks (30), LBCs (40).

Mosey back down to the drop off loop and partner up. P1 runs the loop. P2 BTTW, people’s chair and LBCs.

With a few minutes left, mosey back to the flag for some mary that included american hammers, WW2s, and susanne summers.

Prayers for Fireman Ed, Fudd’s sister and Faceplant’s M.

  • Hoedown

6 Steeds joined for a Handshake Q at Hoedown

Various exercises of various off campus parking lots and neighbor streets

NMS – Lower numbers than usual but we had a great time

Prayer Requests – today is the 5 year anniversary of Mary’s mothers passing, Faceplant’s M having a Benign Brain Tumor removed soon, Fudd’s sisters Cancer

YHC’s appreciates the opportunity to lead, we missed our crew that wasn’t with us.

  • Santa Isn’t Real. Now, Stop Being So Emotional.

6 of Tuckahoe’s finest dominated the morning on the latest edition of The Hoedown. Conditions remained 70 and sunny. According to a balling 3 year old girl and distraught 12 year old boy, the following might have happened.

Mosey to the newly completed parking lot palace at 3rd Church.

4 Principles. The 5th one is a surprise for later.

COP – a relatively random set of exercises and stretches, unplanned, yet seemingly organized.

We started, as we often do, with Side Straddle Hops. Then, Dead Man Hang, Fudd’s Wife, Wilson’s Wife (Recently, a burgeoning movement to become just “Rachel”), Pigeon Right, Pigeon Left, More Pigeon Right, Wait for Bodo’s, Hand Release Merkins, Inverted Scorpion Kicks, Regular Scorpion Kicks, Gas Pumps, and Flutter Kicks.

Mosey along the newly widened walkway (very nice!) to the back of the church for 11’s, but a different kind of elevens.

Bear crawl to the first parking space, do 1 burpee, lunge back to the starting point.
Next round, bear crawl to the second space, 2 burpees, and lunge back.
Escalate until reaching the 6th parking space and 6 burpees.
Then, a short mosey (or, mossy, as you will) bro-code style around the parking lot.
Continue escalating to 7, 8, 9, 10, and then 11 parking spaces, burpees, etc.

At the end, couple of minutes of Mary (flutter kicks, Frederick Mercuries, and hello dolly). Then, 10 Carolina Dry Docks.

    Mosey BTTVSF.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out with a short prayer for Fudd’s sister in silen – what’s that Bodo’s?, her name?, yes, Mary – ok, anyone else? Let’s start again, one moment of prayer for Mary in silen – what’s that Bodo’s? What type of cancer? Now, I’m not 100% sure, but I think she has breast cancer that has spread – ok, now everyone, together, please, just one short moment of – wait for it – prayer in silence for Mary.

    Announcements:

The Bridge, October 26. TYA has the Q. “I was lonely, and you visited me.” Remember their motto, “if there was a way in, there is a way out.”

7 of the 8 micro-regions have a leader for The Bridge.

    NMS:

Today was very emotional for everyone. Bodo’s, Garbage Plate’s daughter, Handshake’s son Tripp, UpChucks’ cousin’s son Benjamin James. Grant them all a sense of humor. Take from them any spirit for retribution.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • Beta Testing

9 Redwoods gathered for a beatdown at the Darkest AO in RVA and this is what happened.

Mosey to the bottom of Lindsay for a quiet COP. Various exercises to included Inverted and Non-Inverted Scorpion Kicks. Bernie Sanders back up to the top of Lindsay.

Mosey over West Drive Circle to the first ever Triple Ch-ora. Triple Ch-ora is a hybrid between a Triple Check and a Dora. Round 1 – P1 completes 50 Merkins, P2 runs the circle, P3 Imperial Walkers. If P1 hasn’t completed the 50 merkins then everyone continues the exercises. Round 2 – P1 completes 100 LBC’s, P2 runs the circle, P3 Squats. Round 3 – P1 completes 150 Single Count Flutters, P2 runs the circle, P3 SSH’s.

Line up in 2 lines across from each other. Man 1 on one side Bear Crawls to the front of the opposite lined and Man 2 folds in behind him to the opposite line and continue. Eventual switch to Crawl Bears.

Indigenous Peoples Bunny Hop. *Favorite of Last Calls* Line up and everyone does Squats while the last guy Bunny Hops to the front of the line and rotate. 2 Complete rounds.

Mosey back to the school for various Ab and Merkins. 20 HRMs, 20 5 Count WWI’s, 20 LBC’s, 10 Werkins, 20 Wide Legged Flutter Kicks, 10 Dive Bombers, etc.

Announcements – 2nd Tuesday 2nd F – Firehouse Subs Tuesday 10/8 at 12:00 Innsbrook. Rodeo Clown has a 2nd F planned for someday/sometime, see Last Call for no details, better yet check Slack.

Prayers – Fudd’s sister Mary and her family.

NMS – Today tested the limits of how many variations of exercises can be done after 10 years of F3RVA. YHC thinks it was a resounding success but the Pax may say otherwise. Have a great day.
