The now KB caught the PAX off guard a little bit but after a a few burpees were completed the mumble chatter got back to normal

  • Shut up and swing your bell.

Four upstanding gentlemen arrived in the gloom, hunks of iron in tow, eager to start the day off right. Unfortunately for the rest of them, YHC was in charge, so “right” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the previous sentence. Here’s what happened in this Birthday Q:

COP – side straddle hops, Don Quixote, helicopters, Russian soldiers (with some mumblechatter about whether one is meant to use arm/leg from the same side or opposite sides), LBCs, merkins

    Triple Check #1:

Carry the bell in a lap of the parking lot
Old Man Test – sit down and stand back up again without hands or knees touching the ground (basically a squat that sucks more)
“Strong & Accomplished” – combo of bicep curl, overhead press, then tricep curl behind the head, then reverse (if there’s already a name drop it in the comments)

    Triple Check #2:

    20 kettlebell swings (timer)
    WWII w/bell press
    Goblet Squats

Finale: The Bell Toss. Does what it says on the tin – you throw the bell over your head, man with the furthest-away impact crater wins. YHC absolutely crushed the competition. And yes, I realize that “humble” is part of that acronym, and it, too, is doing a bit of heavy lifting in that previous statement. I said what I said.

35 trips around the sun have brought about new pops and aches in the joints, joys and tragedies, hopefully a bit of wit and wisdom, and good people to share all of it with. Glad that you lot are a part of it! I appreciate the motivation, the new ideas, (most of) the chatter, and the fellowship of good dudes. Apologies to Oyster for the reminder of why he only comes to MANNdate once a year. We collectively blame Mud Face.

    YNWA,
    -Mr. Holland

    Wild Thing took us out

    NMS

YHC likes to offer the PAX options on what gets done and today he came in with three, two were written down the night before and YHC came up with the third in the truck at the AO with YHC thinking “there is no way they will choose this” as it was the stupidest one that was brought out. It was a tie between option B and option C, but fortunately we had Nike there to be the deciding vote, so it looks like the ridiculous one wins.

The PAX decided that we do not count bad enough in D’Ville and started counting in several different languages during the COP and we almost had 45 minutes of Monkey Humpers. And we learned that Wild Thing has a weird fascination with dumpsters.

Strong work was put in by all. YHC is always proud of the effort that the PAX put in, no matter how ridiculous the work that they are being asked to do.

Thank you gentlemen, It was an honor to lead

  • 3 to the Third

DTH and YHC clown-carred all the way up north on the summer tour and in true clown fashion didn’t bring kettle bells. That’s what I get for Q’ing a place I’ve never been without reading old backblasts. The Manndate veterans thankfully kept their mockery to the F3 baseline (savage but in good faith) and the workout began.

Warmups: SSHs, DQs, helicopters, dead man hang stretches, merkins, plank stretches and some other stuff.

To work around the missing bells, a triple check: run the loop, kettle bell swings and kettle bell squat thrusters.

A second triple check: run the loop with a kettle bell, kettle bell WW2s, and jump squats.

To many eye rolls, a third and final triple check: wall sits with a kettle bell, kettle bell lunges, and bear crawl to the tree and back.

Some light stretching and then we circled up. Special thank you and shoutout to The Carpenter who took us out with a deep and graceful prayer. We wish him all the best on his new adventure in Jersey. Luckily his new next door neighbors went to Virginia Tech so he can keep the rivalry forefront in his mind.

Finally – I remember how hard it was when I started F3 because there was some fear about looking like an out of shape idiot. I also remember how welcoming everyone was during those first few humbling beatdowns. This morning was much the same – like an idiot I didn’t see the kettlebell part on the Schedules page. But everyone was kind and instead I was humbled by the kettebells themselves. Yardsale feel free to drop that 35-pounder in the river. Everyone else – if you haven’t done one of these I highly recommend it, especially with the crew out there. Thanks for having the Southsiders out.

  • Manndate Laps

YHC is working on summer tour venues and signed up to Q Mann Date and 2 faithful Manndate attendees showed up for the humid morning workout and here is what happened:

Short Mosey around parking lot and stopped in front of school for COP

    COP

    10 SSH, 10 DQ, 10 Helicopters, 10 LBC’s recover for the THANG

    THANG

With 3 present for this workout we rotate naming an exercise to perform while on person walks from one island to the other Island and back doing around the world with the KB (clockwise and counter clockwise) as the timer. We all take turns being the timer while the other non walking is performing the exercise that was named. We go to a new exercise after all brothers had a turn walking from island to island.

Here were the exercises : Sit up press, lunges in the grass(this was Rounder’s style where we touched the knee to the grass in the lunge, then returned to standing position alternating legs), Halos (counter clockwise and clockwise), bench squats (we hold the KB and squat to the bench seat then return to standing), Boat – Canoe and we were getting close to time so we stretched for the last 2 minutes.

Numberama, Namerama, Yardsale took us out in prayer.

    NMS

YHC has enjoyed the challenge of the kettle bell workouts ever since his first trip to Circus Maximus years ago with Mudface, Emoji and some others. YHC utilized a Honey Do workout a few years ago (ground hog day) and decided to use it again.

The mumble chatter was prevalent this morning since Yardsale and Mudface were awake and talkative. It was great to have Glide join the party. The PAX was unsure if Bulkhead was going to show up but he didn’t disappoint. He rolled in just in time.

The donkey kicks provided some extra challenge to the exercises. Honey Do’s workouts have revealed that everything is more challenging when some donkey kicks are injected into the flow. The donkey kicks provided that extra “fun” again.

YHC is truly grateful to the PAX and the opportunities that come with leading and participating in F3 workouts. The challenge is out for him to plant a flag in north Jersey and get the party up there.

  • I’m Tabata Sore

Six showed up on a humid morning with a blood moon for a little Tabata Beatdown. We started off by running a few laps around the bus loop. We started off forward, karaoke to the left, run backwards and karaoke to the right. We went around 3-4 times. Bulkhead was a little late. We did one more with him so he wouldn’t feel left out. Next we did a random # of SSH’s, Cherry Pickers, Hand Release Merkins and Freddy Mercury’s.

The workout was a Tabata. Who doesn’t love a Tabata. We did 9 different exercises, 8 sets of each. 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off. The exercises were: Demon Crushers, Sit up Presses, Calf Raises, Lawn Mowers, Boat Canoes, Lunges, Halo’s, Hold six inches on your back while doing presses and lastly, Mud Face Squats.

At this point we were a minute over so we wrapped it up with numberama, namarama, announcements (convergance on Memorial Day) and a prayer by the Q.

I was sore before we even left so I’m thinking this was a good workout. I had a lot of checks to sign at work today and my hands were shaky for the first couple of hours which is usually a good sign. It was a pleasure Qing today and I look forward to seeing these guys again later in the week. As a wise person once said, every day that starts with F3 is a better day because of it. Yardsale.
