  • The Root of 1,521

A dozen SOJ vets RSVP’d Aye! to the Tryhard Birthday Beatdown invite. A few showed up early for a frozen yogurt (broga) appetizer, and Doublemint provided a comedy warmup leaving us all in stitches. The beats dropped at 0530, YHC grabbed the shovel flag, and the PAX tried to keep up. Here’s how we enjoyed (per Doublemint), Just The Tip:

    The THANG:

Shovel flag planted on the field sideline, rock music thumping on the speaker, and the PAX circled up. YHC welcomed and provided the outline: To honor 39 times around the sun, the PAX would complete 39 reps of different exercises a total of 39 rounds.

After the first five sets, YHC called on Snuff to keep track of the Rounds since YHC was barely keeping up with calling the 39 reps for each exercise.

At blazing speeds (for fear we’d run out of time), great exercise variety ensued, leaving the PAX fairly devoid of mumble chatter.

At one of the stretch breaks, a comment was made about the lack of moseying, and the tunes had to be adjusted as the rock had slumped into something “low and slow”.

Quite surprisingly, the PAX absolutely slammed out 38 rounds by 6am, so with 15 minutes left, YHC called for a little mosey/burpee cooldown, and the PAX “gladly” completed 5 burpees at 7 different stops around the fields perimeter, alternating mosey and bernie between stops, and closing it out with a final 4 Body Builder burpees back at the flag. BOOM! 1,521 reps completed, and with time to spare!

Shovel flag uprooted, mosey back to the lot, and circle up. Last Call was tagged to provide a 3 minute Broga set.

NMS:  Haha, what a fun way to start year 39! YHC may not have mentioned it, but being a part of F3, especially among my SOJ brothers, getting stronger together across the 3 F’s, is one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable pursuits of my life. Honestly, with how chaotic the World and my life has been lately, it brings YHC great peace to have F3 as a richly rewarding constant. YHC is deeply grateful to each of you, and looking very much forward to digging deeper together, to make F3 SOJ better every year! SYITG, YHC, DTH

  • These go to 11.

A week or so ago a fine group of gentlemen descended onto the lush fiends of NoToll for a celebratory beat down courtesy of YHC. According to the confused walkers, this is more or less how it went down.

    COP

Various warmeramas, all ending on the 11th rep.

    The Thang

With a choice soundtrack, we embarked upon a Triple Check with PAX picking the exercises, ended up with American Hammers and Heels to Heaven.

    Followed by some 11s

    Then some cool down Broga

Ended with a merkin ring of fire, and a little Mary.

  • The Juicer????

10 studs gathered in the early morning darkness for an OC beat down. YHC has dipped his toe in the F3 waters once again as I walk down the recovery road and knew that signing up for the Q would surely get me out of the fart sack. A quick summary of the morning’s activities…

    Warm-a-Rama

Side Straddle Hops, Don Quixote, You’re Damn Right that’s a Russian Soldier, LBC’s, Alabama Prom Date and Merkins

    1st Exercise – “25’s”

Starting in 1 corner of the parking lot, complete 25 merkins, run to the second corner and complete 25 air squats, run to the third corner and complete 25 double leg lunges. Once lunges were completed, run a lap around the parking lot and start again. Total four rounds.

    2nd Exercise: “The Juicer”

DTH offered up a few names for the next set of exercises. He was most proud of “The Juicer”. Time will tell if it sticks. The Juicer is two rounds of 6 exercises each completed for 1 minute. Merkins, Squats, WWII’s, Step Ups, Heels to Heaven and Burpees. After the first exercises were completed, we rest for 1 minute and then complete the second set. There were some grumblings about YHC’s lack of creativity, but burpees are always a good method to stifle and negative chatter.

Back to the Flag for a Quick Ring of Fire followed by Number-Rama / Name-a-Rama with YHC taking us out in prayer.

Announcements – congrats to Fresh Prince on the birth of his daughter. Thanksgiving day and post Thanksgiving day activities check slack.

Have a great day men. Thanks for letting me lead.

    • FRESH PRINCE took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS:  Felt good to work through some old standard routines today, just putting in the work and grinding out that 1st F. YHC has been under some significant pressures in the recent past and it’s incredibly rejuvenating to steep in the pure waters of SOJ 2nd F. Thank you gentlemen for posting today, for hammering out those routines with enthusiasm, and for your prayers. Yours Always, DTH

  • Caution: Corner May Be Wet

The dark and cool gloom was conquered by 7 bearers of Light.

    The Journey:

Q arrived about a minute late, but the PAX had already started a brief warm-up loop in the parking lot.

Long mosey to the lush and very water saturated rear field of the AO.

    4 Corners-esqe Leap-Style Circuit:

Corner 1: PAX lines up single-file adjacent to a corner while maintaining an exercise, and last man does an exercise then runs to the front of line.
    Last Man: 10 Hand-release Merkins | PAX: WW2’s
100x Monkey Humpers at the arrival of the next corner

Corner 2: PAX lines up single-file adjacent to a corner while maintaining and exercise, and last 3 men do an exercise, and then run to the front of line.
Last Three Men: 15 Heels-to-Heaven | PAX: Hold plank
Audible at 70% completion of the length, to Bear Crawl remainder of the distance to the next corner
100x Side Straddle Hops at the arrival of the next corner

Corner 3: Elevens with Burpees and Hand-Release Merkins between corner and next corner
100x Calf Raises (50 toes pointed in, 50 toes pointed out)

Elevens took longer than expected, Corner 4 was sadly missed.

    Long mosey to basketball courts.

PAX lines up single file and does a group Bear Crawl around outer perimeter of the court while last man runs to the center of the court and does 10 Merkins to rejoin the “Bear Crawl Train” at the front.

Completed one loop around the court

Suicides from end to end of the court for the remaining 1 minute.

    NMS:

Shoutout to DTH for yet again pushing me out my comfort zone to Q this workout and gradually get back into the swing of things despite still working to overcome an injury. Things didn’t go 100% as planned with some aspects but with the support of the PAX we did the dang thang. Such a solid life lesson of not always waiting until things are 100% comfortable or “right” to keep moving forward. Sometimes life presents you with a challenge and you just gotta go after it, even if you gotta wing it while you do it. Love this group of guys and so thankful to have the opportunity to lead this workout, enjoy your fellowship, and get drenched in the lush fields of NoToll.

  • High and dry

11 gathered in the cool fall morning and Oyster reminisced about my last Q: “You made us do WW2s on the concrete instead of the grass.” Little did he know, towards the top of my list of reasons to Q is ‘stay high and dry.’

50 SSH to warm up. Mosey to the backlot. Don Quixotes, helicopters, imperial squat walkers, stretching, mirkins and some other stuff I forgot while trying to come up with a spontaneous plan.

First on the docket: 11s including WW2s on the concrete plus Caroline dry docks.

Next up, indigenous curb crawl around the island – everyone crawls and one by one each person ran around.

Lunge to the far side of the lot. Run back across, karaoke back again. Mosey towards the flag with a small payment to the durkin + dip troll who lives under the bridge.

Line up on the basketball court for some jumping herpes all the way across. That’s a hand-release mirkin into broad jump burpee (invented by Chaplain… for some reason).

Then a nice 4 corners lady of the night with 10 mirkins, 20 jump squats, 30 heels to heaven and 40 mountain climbers. On that first heels to heaven YHC observed with incredulity just how far away those stars really are. DK asked ‘where’s the weed’ and at that very moment with everyone looking up and laughing a meteor streaked across the dawn sky. High… and dry. Unlike Shatner’s Depends when faced with the blackness of space beyond this lush oasis.

A few minutes left for some mankillers, which YHC forgot how to do. Luckily Doozy was there to pick up the pieces with Gumbo keeping him honest.

Mosey back to the flag with an 1 min 30 elbow plank to finish it off.

A special prayer of gratitude for our purpose, whether we believe it or not, as hidden in the God-given infinite complexity of this world we call home – as Carl Sagan said: “For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love.’

Fitness, fellowship and faith. Love it.

  • Chillin Broga

A duo of well dressed brogiis took to the No Toll Courts for Broga Flow session. The always velvety voice of Adai led us through a variety of flexible poses including the popular “pigeon”. Deep breathing and good work on the hip flexors was much appreciated ending up in the relaxing shavacena (you don’t know unless you know).

Although the morning comes earlier, certainly worth taking the time to stretch before the No Toll beatdown. Great to catch up with Chap.

  • Like a Suction Cup

A lucky 7 SOJ veterans fought off the warm, dry fart sack to descend onto the misty yet plush fields of No Toll this morning to see what YHC had in store. Here is what was rumored to have occurred according to the ever-present walkers surveying the property.

Mosey to the parking lot with a quick buy in at the bridge – 10 dips and 10 derkins. Continue on for warmarama including SSH’s, DQ’s, Dead Man Hang, Merkins and American Hammers.

    THE THANG:

Mosey to the far corner for 4 corners – 10 merkins, 15 jump squats, 20 WWII’s, 25 Monkey Humpers. Round 2 – Double each exercise.

Leap Frog Pole Smokers: PAX holds 6″ at each pole while 10 pole smokers are completed, then leap frog PAX to next available pole.

Mosey to the Pavilion for 100’s: 100 of each exercise, run across the field and back. Exercises included flutters, LBC’s, Incline Merkins, Shoulder Taps, Squats, SSH’s, and something else.

Back over to the parking lot. Stop for a quick round of 7’s (merkins and squats), bearcrawl and lunge from 1 side of the parking lot to the other.

Stop by the bridge on the way back to the flag for payout of 10 dips and 10 derkins.

    BTTF for quick Broga Mary.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayers – YHC took us out.

Announcements: Blood Drive needs volunteers and donors next Wednesday. Beer Mile this Friday at Faceplants. See slack for low down on both events.

NMS: Another damp, misty morning led to the typical grumblings when ab exercises were called. PAX pushed through with mumble chatter throughout the morning. Good work on the 100’s. Good to have Rosie back out on what is becoming a regular showing.

  • Return of the princess!

Twelve gloom seekers ventured to No Toll this morning. YHC had grabbed the Q late after daughters volleyball game so not much time to plan. According to the early morning walker here is what transpired.

COP- 20 each: SSH, LBC’; 10 each: DQ’s, cherry pickers, helicopters, Jazzercise, imperial walkers, Russian soldiers, Merkins, Flutters, Hello Dollie.

Split into 5 groups in parking lot. 1 on each corner and one group running to the next corner. Perform exercises at each corner until you were bumped to run. Merkins, Squats, WWII’s, SSH were the first. We did 3-4 rounds (lost count).

Mosey to top of lot for sprints and other various runs. Next round of corners. Exercises were Drydocks, FLutters, box cutters, monkey humpers. We did 2 rounds. Back to flag. Some stretching then time was called.

Announcements: See Slack: Sign up to volunteer, give blood, or both.

YHC took us out in prayer. Always an honor to lead. And Welcome back Fiona!
