    21 independent warriors arrived to greed the dawn of a new day. It may have quite literally been 70 and sunny on this most blessed day in which our colonies that have turned to states celebrate Independence from the Queen Mother and her misguided attempts at trying to control a few so she could control her fortune. According to legend and naughty Ben Franklin, it went a little something like this:

    DTH Bulls On Parade: DTH busted out his favorite jam, by that one english band that was pretty famous. If you guessed The Beatles or Rolling Stones you would be wrong. Hell, it’s not even flipping Oasis. May the lord have mercy on his soul, he chose the song Tub Thumping by Chubawumba. Whenever the chorus came on, do a burpee on the line: “I get knocked down, but I get up again.”

    Bust into two teams based on your preference for Ginger or Marianne. This is a 10 round sufferfest that goes like this. Start at the pavillion, run to other side to complete exercises as prescribed. Run back to pavillion. Team that finished first gets a point for something that is akin to bit coin or a Schrute Buck.

    Bust into teams of 3. The exercises for this classic are ball dippers and American Hammer Arm Circles. The real star of the show here was the timer, The Independence Hall Slip N Slide. Please see the great shots that our very own Shakedown took on Instagram, TicTac, MyFace, etc. There was so much style, that awards simply had to be handed out.

    Hard-e-Wood Shuffle Dora

    DTH just could not wait for everyone to get a hold of his wood. Here’s how this worked out; split back into the original teams. Each team gets 5 cabers. DTH gets one huge smile. Now for the Dora part. The exercises are done by all the pax who are not running with cabers. Exercises are done in cadence as a group. Cabers must be motion at all times.

    News: Puppy Pile is next Sunday from 7am – 8am at No Toll. The slip n slide may make another appearance. And if you were concerned that Seymour would be in his speedo, I can confirm his restraining order does not allow him to come that close.

    Moleskin: Gents, thank you so much for making the time today. In all seriousness, it’s a really important day. I appreciate you for showing up, showing your enthusiasm and not being silent.

    It’s as much of a time to celebrate as it is a time to reflect. The signers of the Declaration Of Independence were not perfect. Scratching just beneath what was taught to us in school shows that they were profoundly flawed men. Aside from the powdered wig and pantaloons, they were much like us. It would have been easier to be submissive to the largest military force the world had ever known. Most American colonists were opposed to a revolution of any kind.

    Perhaps they sensed what would happen is they remained silent and obedient. Tyranny unchecked knows no boundaries. The following sums it up pretty good and is often attributed to Thomas Jefferson “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.”

    So on this most wonderful of days, as you hold a cool beverage in one hand and an imported explosive in the other, pause for a moment to think about what is worth lending your voice to? What principle needs a champion in todays world? What thing are you wishing for some one else to do that you can and should be doing?

  • SOJ is Ultimately Cooler!

    A perfect 14-count Pax posted to NoToll for a little Ultimate Frisbee today. All present were honored to have the one and only LabRat back out in the gloom after a long quarantine hiatus. YHC led a brief Warmerama COP while Labrat set the cones, and we divvied up black shirts against everyone else, making a perfect seven-V-seven split. In honor of today’s date, YHC called 6 burpees each time a team scored, while the losers would walk the field and complete 30 LBC’s. From the very start the men in black demonstrated an uncanny capacity for effective short throws winning a steady stream of touchdowns and burpees. The other-colored gentlemen also put together a few handsome plays to get their share of burpees and prevent the all blacks from a shutout. All together we saw some very impressive skills from our veternas Labrat and DK, while a few other men made their mark for quality throws (Snuff), defensive picks (Draper), sliding touchdown (Flange), and of course the trifecta of Fresh Prince’s speed, vertical jump, and flawless frisebee handling (having NEVER played before – whatta natural?). Sorry if I forgot to mention many of the other lads’ phenomenal plays and touchdowns. The men in black were in double digits for touchdowns and at least 70 burpees by the end. All present were entirely drenched in sweat, field dew, and sticky humidity by the end of an exceptionally enjoyable morning. Thanks for letting me lead fellas – we’ll do this another 1-2 times this summer at NoToll and/or Heartbreak Ridge.

    A PAX of 16(!) hit No Toll on this drizzly and unseasonably cool June morning. The New Market clown car (welcome back to No Toll fellas!) showed up right on time and off we went. Here’s what went down:

    The final week of hate has arrived. YHC turns 40 on Friday…and what better way to begin celebrating than by grabbing a few Qs this week. With Phase II in full force, it was great to see the No Toll numbers almost back to pre-quarantine levels. So awesome to see the return of the New Market clown car to No Toll…you fellas have been missed! YHC particularly missed Wilson’s mumblechatter.

    If today’s Q wasn’t enough, YHC will be back for SOT, the Forge, and Twin Team this week.

    The extroverts of the PAX could not contain their socially distant selves when they saw DTH for the first time in what seems like forever, a hug or two was had and only the names have been changed to protect the guilty. Cooper apparently has no boundaries and will get in your social box whenever he feels like it. YHC knew it would be a fair amount of run today but wanted to explore some new areas of the AO. YHC would also like to cross the street to the old Toys-R-Us parking lot but that adds a good bit of run and less workout to the mix.

    Nine fielders and a DH posted for Vinny Ball as things begin to open up and the return of major league baseball is imminent. Grab your can of lip and slap your finger, it’s time to Play Ball!

    Warm-up lap around the first field then assemble for COP:

    Willie Mays Hayes x 9 / Arm Circles Forward & Backward; Big and Little: all x 9 / Imperial Walkers x 9 / Helicopters x 15

    Vinny Baseball: Home plate x 1 Heels to Heaven. Run to first base x 10 Burpees. Back to HP x 1 then back to 1B x 10. Then to 2B x 20 Chuck Norris Merkins. Back to 1B x 10 then back to HP x 1. Repeat all bases back to 3B for American Hammers (2-count) x 30. Back through the bases and repeat all the way around to HP for 40 (2-sets for a total of 80) Flutter Kicks (2-count).

    Next: Bear Crawl from HP to 1B. Hold Elbow Plank for 2:00. Crab Walk from 1B to 2B. Hold 6 inches for 2:00. Lunges from 2B to 3B. Arm Claps for 2:00.

    BP: Each player takes six cuts (3 from each side of the plate). Batter then calls out an exercise x 6.

    Prayers: Handshake’s family lost their 12 year old pooch yesterday, unexpectedly. Remember all the good times brother, it’ll get easier.

    NMS: As I wind down my time before our move to Charlottesville, it’s important that I continue to realize all that F3RVA means to me. Seeing my brothers out every morning is such a great way to be reminded. I know I haven’t been out much lately, my stupid feet, but the boost I get when I do get out, is just awesome! I was glad to see my No Toll brothers this morning. Even though, they might be the reason everyone has chickens.

    Five studs posted to No Toll to tour the fields, here’s how it went:

    COP – Nope.

    The THANG: Mosey with the Stars n Stripes to the lower parking lot, and do two laps (1 mile) around outer perimeter of fields. Plant the flag, then 20 minutes of 4 corners using the outer perimeter AMRAP:

    1st corner: merkins x 20

    2nd corner: jump squats x 20

    3rd corner: burpees x 10 (x 20 if you’re a DaVillian)

    4th corner: WWIIs x 20

    Grab the flag, do two more laps (1 mile) and BTTCars.

    Numberama, name-o-rama, YHC took us out.

  • Price of Finishing Early

    6 Young Studs arrived dressed in their Tuesday best for a Prom Date beatdown with the lush green fields at No Toll. Like many proms, most events were a bit hazy but this is what was recalled.

    Mosey to the parking lot for quick warm up. SSH’s, Arm Circles, Reverso, Cherry Pickers, DQ’s, LBC’s, Inverted Scorpion Kicks. Everyone warm, lets hit the dance floor.

    Mosey to the perfectly manicured green fields. Ideal condition for some slow dancing and soft whispers of anticipation. First Dance – 2 songs of 5 Points. Song 1 included the 80’s rock ballad of the following exercises 30 times in each corner of the field – Dips, WWII’s, Mountain Climbers, Jump Squats, Pickle Pounders. After each exercise rejoin your friends in the center of the floor for 3 burpees. Song 2 was a slow 90’s R&B number again of 30 count broken up by 3 burpees each time – Merkins, Dips, American Hammers, Monkey Humpers, Carolina Dry Docks. Shoes were left behind mangled in a pile, showing it was time to make the move.

    Last Dance- lets pick up the pace a bit with some heavy metal 100’s. First person to 100 of each exercise calls out and PAX runs to the opposite field to find another dance partner. Rounds included Mountain Climbers, Monkey Humpers, SSH’s and the always popular calf raises (both in and out). We don’t discriminate at this party.

    Time to treat her right, so we moseyed over to the parking lot for some 1 on 1 action. Partner up for Broad Jump Burpees between the curbs while partner runs. Round 2 was Polar Bear Merkins to get back to the room.

    YHC was spent and just like in high school finished too early. Looking around at the disappointed faces, YHC had to think quick. No problem, back to the lush dance floor for a Merkin Ring of Fire. Doozy showed he still had the energy with Rocky Balboa’s.

    Still time on clock and YHC went blank. Luckily Bone Thugs felt it was time for Hardywood to become a man, killer that is. Doozy led us and our already burning calves in the No Toll Mankiller tradition. Made it through 7 count and now BTTF for a long nap and happy thoughts.
