  • Back on the buttermilk trail…is that Fudd?

Two SOJ vets gathered back at buttermilk trail this morning for some ruck training. The trails were quiet this morning as we rucked 5.5 miles. As we came to our turn around point we ran into Fudd and the boys out for their morning trail run. Great work guys! F3 was taking over the trails this morning!

Grateful for the weather and the quality conversation. Have a great day!

  • 24 x 5

Three intrepid ruckers explored the beauty of Larus Park. It feels like spring is in the air and time in the woods is what the soul needs.

Next weekend we will not have our normally scheduled Sunday ruck option. Instead, consider the Frozen Triangle ruck option on Saturday.

  • Special Guests

5 SOJ ruckstallions converged for a 45min OTB ruck at The Forge, but quickly escaped the AO into the hills of Oxford. After a half-mile loop, the PAX found themselves at YHC’s house being introduced to our special guests, a collection of 8’ logs, procured specifically for such GTE#47 purposes. Two logs were selected and shouldered, and YHC was sure to include the big hill in our little log-training circuit. This was not easy, and yet the PAX made it look easy. YHC felt better once the logs were returned and the complaining commenced (phew! I’m not the only one who found that challenging!). These now extreeeeeemely experienced ruckers covered a little over 2.5 miles, and returned to find an HHS admin scoping our shovel flag and cars. Apparently Wednesday morning gets attention but being there at the same time every Thursday for the last FIVE years doesn’t get noticed? It was odd, “Mike” was invited to join F3, he backed away slowly. Purple Rain felt pretty sure (slathered with sarcasm) that he was a HC for coming out tomorrow… ha! Well, we’ll be there anyway. Thanks for letting me lead fellas! 🔥💪🙏

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Crossing (new AO) kicks off this evening at 6pm at WEAG. Also, DTH and others are tackling a PRE-FrozenTriangle ruck this Sat AM (leave from Dogpile at 0600). See Slack for all other ruck options.
PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray for NTB as he and his M are grieving the loss of a loved one.

  • Get the Flock Out

8 Ruckers and a canine fast paced it on the roads to preserve the trails. Roscoe enjoyed himself chasing flocks of geese away and clearing our path forward.

  • Buttermilk Trails & Dogpile COT

Three men launched from just outside Belle Isle Park at 6a for a 2 hour, ~6.5 mile Ruck throughout the Buttermilk Trails. Morning temperatures were perfect for getting after it to start the weekend off right.

PAX enjoyed a casual hike filled with banter and even made a mid-hike pit stop at Dogpile just in time to join Handshake and the PAX as they closed with COT. First bumps and welcomes from all at Dogpile before turning around to complete the remaining ~3 miles back to our starting point.

Excellent view of the sunrise while crossing Nickel Bride and grateful for a morning of fellowship and Ruck training, despite YHC’s navigation abilities (Thank you AllTrails).

  • Rucking Commentary

Two ruckers launched at 0700 and not only covered the miles, but deep conversation. Coffee afterwards at a local shop was awesome.

With this crew it never feels cold outside when together as a team.

  • House Party’s Yappin Again

4 runners met at BWES but decided to slow it down to a Ruck, according to the dog walkers this is how it went.

OG River Run route, from BWES circle in front of JRHS out to Robious left into River Downs, left up the big hill. Right on River Downs back to Robious and pass the Schools again.

4 Plus miles (YHC forgot to set his watch on time) House Party kept the official Milage

Numbers / Names Chaplain took us out (NTB took us out a second time)

    NMS:

Title of this BB comes from how overly talkative House Party often is 😁 YHC thinks it’s probably because NTB and I Yap most of the time. Lots of good conversation this morning, no we didn’t salve all the worlds problems (or any) but we got to know each other just a little bit more. 16 degrees is just stupid, looking forward to 90 with 80% RH

  • One more minute of vigorous exercise

Five runners started off their Sunday right by hitting the mean streets of Midlothian. Pretty standard southern route that got us 6 miles. Great company and great conversation followed by more 2nd F at Starbucks.

After the run, YHCs watch said that one more minute of vigorous exercise was needed to hit the weekly quota. Great ideas followed on how to hit that last minute.

    Enjoy your Sunday fellas!

  • Early Bird Gets the Worm

A great eight embarked predawn on the North Bank trails. Early birds not only get the worm, but the trail to themselves. Peace, tranquility, and an epic city skyline at the turnaround.

Negative splits for the return trip as we covered over 4.3 miles in 80 minutes.

    Doozy took us out.

Coffee was excellent afterwards and it was great to see Gypsy and Homer back from their run.

Announcements: Sign up for Growruck and see Slack for details. This is going to be a transformational event that will push you physically, mentally, and doing so with a team. Training is underway with weekly rucks throughout the region.

There is also a HDHH this week on 1/17. See Slack for details.

  • Flooded Trails

6 SOJ ruckers, an F3 runner and some friends met Off the Books for ruck training around TwinTeam. Draper and some coworkers ran off into the Gloom in search of some hills while the rest of us hit the streets toward Robious Landing Park. What looked like a cliff near the river turned out to be the overflowing banks of the James. As most of the trails circle around to the river, access was not to be found today. Hopefully not too much damage to the park or floating docks. The only reasonable alternative was hit the TwinTeam hill, the ruckers never broke stride and crushed the hill with ease in route to a 5k in well under an hour.

More ruck options this weekend – Saturday pre-RockNRoll, and Sunday 6am at the Pump House. YHC had my doubts about rucking but I am already seeing the benefits – cross training, easy on the joints, opportunity for more fellowship, and getting back on the trails around RVA. We’ll add more Off the Books options during the week so be on the lookout – join the #rucking or #GTE47 channel for opportunities.
