  • R.U.D.

16 or so early morning risers arose.

Short run: Monument to Grove rectangle. 4s turn at Arthur Ashe, 5s around Allison, 6s were absent.

    Long: Top Golf route

    Bikes: out and around.

Felt like a good morning to take in the Monument Christmas lights, so off the four of us went. Great job everyone. YHC had a good conversation with Pucker, where I learned a new acronym today – R.U.D. (rapid unscheduled disassembly). The context was the Space X test run this week which appeared to go well other than an RUD ending.

Bodos’ version of a rectangle has more sides than most of ours, but he made it back no problem. He also says to check out The Sound of Metal on Amazon Prime for those interested in a good flick this weekend.

  • Snake Tongue

    14 arose and conquered.

Short run – snake tongue route. Left on Grove, left on Granite, across Cary down Kennondale. 4s return the way you came. 5s do Tempsford and return home. No 6s. Oyster ran the Oyster route.

Long run did the reverse Carillon.

Great job men. Only a few of us on the short run today but it was a good morning to be out nonetheless. Hard pressed to find a longer hill than Kennondale from RAMM, perhaps YHC shouldn’t announce such a challenge.

Thanks to Shiplap for keeping our average age down.

  • Data Bump – RAMM

16 boys came to the yard at recess and went their own ways.

Choices – ride a bike, run a long ways, or run a shorter than long ways (reverse Carillon).

Pullout’s pullout game is still strong.

Good job men. Stay safe, prayers to Kubota on a swift recovery, and hope he didn’t get everyone sick at Saab’s birthday outing. We can all blame Saab right?

  • If You Run Into the House, You’ve Gone Too Far

A double dozen came out on a beautiful morning at Ms. Mary Munford’s Elementary School for a Friday the 13th edition of RAMM.

After a few were lost last week on the Windsor Farms route, we wanted to try it again, with a bit more specific directions.

YHC did realize something during the jaunt that most likely is happening on this particular run. Three or four years ago we would run Hillcrest with regularity…it even became (and still is?) a Wednesday afternoon Q. Of course, we’ve had a plethora of guys join us since those runs, and they may (MAY!) not be as familiar with Hillcrest as others. After all, it is dark and there are a decent amount of offshoots around that hill.

From what it seems, everyone got back in good shape today and no one, to my knowledge got lost. It’s not the easiest of runs…Hillcrest at the top is a bear…but hopefully the PAX is figuring this one out.

Head east on Wilmetta which more or less turns into Kingscrest. Up the hill on Kingscrest until it dead ends at Malvern.

Right (south) on Malvern. Malvern crosses Cary and heads into Windsor Farms. You veer left on Canterbury which takes you around the backside of the neighborhood.

If you take the left the first time you see Dover, you’ll end up on the Powhite Parkway. Don’t take the first left on Dover. Continue to go around past Agecroft Hall and Gardens and then you come upon Dover again.

Take that left. That shoots you out to Locke Lane. You hop across an overgrown median and end up on Pocahontas. Take that until it ends on Hillcrest.

Take a right (North) on Hillcrest and start up the namesake of the street.

4s…exit Hillcrest (on Hillcrest, ironically) and cross Cary. Head west for about 15 paces to Oak. Go North on Oak, across Grove to Patterson. East on Patterson, south on WestMoreland, east on Grove, back to the flag.

5s…take another loop around Hillcrest, then exit on Hillcrest and follow the path of the 4s.

6s….take the same 2nd loop on Hillcrest but keep going back down the hill…go straight on Charmain, which ends up being WestMoreland. Hairpin turn at the end of WestMoreland (at Cary) back south on Locke. Take a RIGHT on Dover, then left on Berkshire to Cary. West on Cary and Circle MM back to the flag.

    Everyone have a good weekend.

  • It’s the 2nd Dover Left

    It’s the 2nd Dover Left

On a picture perfect November morning, 25 dudes met up for what turned out to be a complicated route south of Cary Street. This isn’t the first, or even the fourth time that we’ve took a stab at the vaunted “Windsor Farms to Hillcrest” jaunt…and, much like the first few times, I’m not sure anyone completed it as it was planned out.

Either way…here’s the ideal way to run this route…

I’m committed to having the PAX finish this without error…so YHC signed up to Q next Friday as well.

    It’ll be the same route.

Prayer requests–Pray for Shakedown’s family. Oleander doing a 100mile run on the Capital Trail.

    Have a good weekend, guys.

  • Pre-Halloween Beer Run

A sweet 16 embraced cooler temperatures and a soggy road to pre-emptively burn off some Halloween calories.

Off we went north on Commonwealth turning right on Broad. Left on Roseneath. 4s turned around a Veil and took a scenic run down Roseneath to Grove and back to the flag.

5s and 6s continued on in Scott Addition, turning right on Norfolk and a right on the Blvd. 5s take the Blvd to Grove and home. 6s turn left on Broad and a right on Strawberry to Grove and home.

    eHarmony took us out.

  • De Facto Q

Bunch of warriors came out and exercised. Early runners with Bone Thugs putting in just shy of 8, late runners getting some reverse Carillon with a twist start error by the Q but all worked out well, and the cyclists did some longs and shorts as well.

Great job men! Got to run but getting in big data before I close the computer for the day. Thanks to Bodos for the title.

  • “Yo. Were You Serious, or Just Picking on Me?”

20 riders and runners spun their way up-and-back on Grove for the First Annual, First Inaugural, First Ever, un-proctored, not-yet-certified, wind-assisted (so unofficial) Yo-Yo Run. Weather was sunny and 70. The clock struck 05:30 and the PAX were on their way.

    Route:

From MM, run west on Grove to Lexington-Albemarle. Take a left (toward Cary) and run the loop around Lexington-Albemarle, returning to Grove.

Right onto Grove and return to Mary Munford.

Right onto Westmoreland (at the traffic light).

Left onto the gravel trail at Mary Munford, except for anyone who has been told to avoid trail runs. PAX ran one full loop on the track, then returned to Westmoreland and ran back to Grove.

    That’s 1 loop.

    Repeato:

The Loop was just under 2 miles. Runners repeated The Loop according to each PAX’s desired distance:

    4s ran 2x.

    6s ran 3x.

5s ran 2x, then on 3rd loop, ran to Lexington, stopped and turned around at Lexington without running the Lex-Albe loop. PAX then re-traced the route to MM, and ran the full school track on the 3rd lap, then returned to MM parking lot.

Early Risers wove themselves into the route along the way.

    Yo-Yo:

Lots of “Yo!” as the PAX went back-and-forth on Grove. Thanks for indulging YHC. Good chatter among the PAX, and YHC enjoyed catching up with Handshake, Saab, TYA, Bone Thugs, Swirly, and others along the way. Thanks to Handshake for pulling YHC along.

For those who missed the Pre-Blast, The Loop appeared, to YHC, like we were yo-yo-ing (spinning back-and-forth along a string).

    Announcements:

2nd Annual, First Inaugural tomorrow in Amelia. PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP UNTIL 2:00 p.m. There will not be a pre-event work party. Please do not arrive early.

October 23-25, back and forth to Williamsburg Weekend. Specifics posted elsewhere. Form your teams.

Day after Thanksgiving, the 3rd Annual Loop-til-You-Drop-or-Don’t-Care-Anymore at Forest Hill Park. 4 mile loops. Start a new loop every hour on the hour. AMRAP. Grab your big boy pants and your mental fortitude. Finish what you start. Last man standing. BYO supplies and family members.

Prayer requests for YHC’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law and her family. RIP Bill Davis.

Let’s keep in mind the several PAX members who are going through family loss or illness these days. Best to Phonix & Family.

    NMS:

Each generation of Americans has its defining events. For my father, it was where he was when he learned that Pearl Harbor was attacked. For my mother, it was her location when she learned that Kennedy was assassinated. For YHC, it was the Challenger disaster, and then later, where YHC was when he learned about the attacks on 9-11.

For TYA, well, there are some things that he can’t un-see or un-smell, and that happened 4 years ago. Glad to see Saab is back to normal.

  • Pre-Blast: RAMM Route

Come one, come all to RAMM tomorrow.

If you have a yo-yo holster, bring it. Much yo-yo-ing shall be done.

Saab can run on the grass. Run one full loop on the track. Return to Westmoreland and run back to Grove. That’s 1 loop.

    Repeato:

The Loop is just under 2 miles. Repeat The Loop according to your desired distance:

    4s run 2x.

    6s run 3x.

5s run 2x, then on 3rd loop, run to Lexington. Stop and turn around at Lexington without running the Lex-Albe loop. Return to MM, and run the full school track on the 3rd lap, return to MM parking lot.

Early Risers join at any point/time. Late Arrivers join at any point/time.

    Yo-Yo:

When you see a PAX tomorrow running the opposite direction say “Yo!” They will respond in kind. Nice community building step.

And, on a map, The Loop looks, to YHC, like we are yo-yo-ing (spinning thing on a string up-and-back).

  • Serpentine Returns

17ish PAX departed from Mary for their various sets of exercise.

YHC offered up a Lab Rat special – Serpentine. Everyone start east on Grove, north on Hamilton, east on Hanover until it dead ends, right to Stuart, take Stuart all the way back to Hamilton. Left on Hamilton and left on Kensington.

4s – turn left up Bunting and left on Grove home.

5s – Take Kensington until it dead ends. turn right and head back east on the gravel road until you hop onto Leonard. Right on Commonwealth home.

6s – Take Kensington all the way back to Hamilton, right on Hamilton, right on Grove home.

The cyclists cycled, the long runners ran perhaps with Bone Thugs, perhaps not.

Thankfully Marv knew it and took the lead with the 6s. Bodos was the sole 5 and with a quick tutorial out of the gate by YHC, he was off. Nice flat run with little to no traffic on the roads.

Good luck to those running the Monument 10K this weekend, which is taking place at several different courses or OYO Friday through Sunday.

    Marv took us out.
