  • No creativity today

4 RiverRun veterans and 1 FNG hit the cold wet roads of northwestern Chesterfield County for a few miles of early morning fun. No Q on the sheet and no one feeling extra creative this morning so, as Wedding Singer would call it, the OG route it is. Into Tarrington, Ashwell loop up the hill and around the school for about 5 miles. Lugnut hit his 4, and the rest of us including the FNG, Orange Crush, pushed up the hills for 5.

Doozy is itching to do the rollercoaster again but was hesitant to mention it this morning. YHC has been thinking about new routes, hill repeats and/or speed work. There will be some variety at River Run soon, but not today.

Welcome Orange Crush, those hills are not easy and even tougher on day 1.

  • Poor Little Guy Probably Kept up with you for a Mile or so…

6 men unfazed by Cantore’s forecast posted to River Run to log some miles and the weather held off for a perfect morning run.

As for the BB Title, in today’s version of that great National Lampoons clip, YHC was the “poor little guy” tied to the bumper of Rosie, Swiper and Doozy, and YHC kept up for about 3.5 miles before I lost grip of the tether and fell back.

The route was left out of BWES around by the high school and right onto the sidewalk heading West toward 288. Crossover Robious at the light and jump onto the other sidewalk and follow it all the way down to the new bridge across Bernard’s Creek. 4-milers turn around and retrace back to the flag. 5-milers head back up (literally) the sidewalk and take a left onto Lennox Forest for a mile loop in River Downs North, then back to the flag.

COT, Number-Rama, Name-A-Rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • GrowRuck needs more participants. See HoneyDo

    NMS:

Turned out to be a pleasant morning for a run except for a couple decent sized puddles along the route and one sniper (lip of the sidewalk transition) that took out poor Doozy – hope that elbow is alright!

The pace was strong with Rosie and Swiper pulling us along and Doozy drafting close like Cole Trickle.

    Well done men!

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Is there any other way to start Monday?

A perfect morning for 6 River Run Regulars to show up to BWES and pound the pavement! 0528 route explained…..Up Twin Team to Ellesmere, take a R. L on Drakewood with an elbow turn here, elbow turn there, and L on Gryphon. With another elbow turn and R on Brigstock. 4 milers turn back at Brigstock. 5 milers attempted to keep the pace of Swiper, we tried! Cross Salisbury onto Kings Lynn Rd to DK’s house. And back to BWES.

5 milers enjoyed some extra credit with route and GPS stating 5.4! Thanks to Mr. Roper and Lug for circling back to round up the PAX.

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Growruck needs F3 RVA so see Honeydo. Rumor has it that TYA has a pack and weight! BRR-currently 6 man team and 12 man team. IF any PAX is interested see YHC or Corporate. Logistics can handle more participants but we need to plan ASAP!!

    YHC took us out!

NMS; Day after Super Bowl and mumblechatter stated. “boring.” Defense wins championships. Swiper nice pace today and you too Doozy. Gumbo, pleasure sharing the road with you this morning. Never fear, The Institute ALWAYS rises above! This week, remember to ponder when the mind allows, “How do you spell success?”

    Only those who post understand.

  • Parade of Homes – Slumlord Style

6 dudes posted for a beautiful morning at RiverRun that went something like this…

    Thang:

OG w/ a Twist: Before taking the Ashwell loop, dip into Tarrington neighborhood for an extra loop. Today’s tour guide: Slumlord. Lots of landscape lighting in Tarrington; total darkness on Twin Team.

Back at school in exactly 45 min.

COT – Rosie took us out

    Naked Moleskin:

Slumlord showed YHC a few extra loops on Google Maps before we started out. Nervous about giving complex instructions, the Pax was able to tour the first of 2 possible bonus loops because we all stuck together.

Slumlord also shared the story of encountering a work truck that had struck a tree, rolled over, spilled fuel and blocked the exit to Tarrington on Friday afternoon around 4pm. The driver and passenger were not even worried about the fuel; they were focused on throwing ~20 dead Canada Geese back into the truck. Apparently it’s illegal to kill Canada Geese in our parts….wonder if the same applies to roosters (I still have 2 that I’m tried to offload for free: dinner at breaking bread next time out?)

    4.7 miles according to Rosie.

  • Let’s keep it simple

3 RiverRun regulars, only 1 SOP, stepped out of their warm vehicles into the 15 degree gloom of the Bettie Weaver parking lot with no Q with a specific route it mind.  We decided to keep it simple with an out and back, up Twin Team to Brigstock – out 23 minutes turn around and come back.  The return is always faster with Twin Team hitting the PAX at the start.

Good to run with Doozy today and hear about the beating Hitchhiker and others put on the PAX Saturday.  Lugnut pushed himself to a little over 4 today, even with the Twin Team start, well done.

Hope everyone has a great day and if you are fortunate enough to have the day off, enjoy.

  • Captain Crunch

Two strong shuffled into the river run winter wonderland, a stark contrast to YHC abode or Bullseye’s retreat 2 miles east.

The mosey goes something like this…

Carefully mosey onto James River Rd, Right on Riverton Ridge, Left on Welby, Right on Sherfield, Left on Ashwell around the big loop, right on Edmonton and back to base.

Bullseye led the way and continually reminded YHC that running on the white stuff is a lot safer than trying to run anywhere else.  It was nice to find out the Bullseye and YHC have quite a few mutual friends, I guess that happens when you live in the same area long enough.

    Good times!

  • If you share your neighbors SUV, what else do you share?

8 Foot Soldiers arrived to BWES to see what was going on? YHC forgot his time keeper so Gumbo assisted throughout the morning….YHC had a 6 mile route for Rosie but he declined so….4 and 5 mile route explained and 0530 so up Twin Team to Ellesmere. R on Ellesmere to Brigstock. 4 milers take a R on Brigstock and back to Twin Team and down the slope. 5 milers, L on Brigstock to Mount Hill. R on Mount Hill and Mount Hill to Brigstock. L on Brigstock to Twin Team and down the slope!

Lead group moseyed around JRHS and lagging group met them head on at JRHS parking lot. PAX all finished together with Gumbo proclaiming there was 5 minutes left. Time for Mary….x 15 LBC’s and x 15 Box Cutters. Flip sides…..ROF- x 5 Merkins. Gumbo proclaimed one minute left so squat and hold till 0615.

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Puppy Pile moved to January 26. Evidently a few Pax members are really excited about Hardywoods’ Q at Dogpile this weekend!! Hardywood has lost the hate!

    YHC took us out!

NMS: So the title of the backblast……DK was borrowing his neighbors Jeep so that his niece can travel to Philly. Evidently Dk’s sister has more children than vehicles. Limehouse-great to run with you this morning. Gumbo thank you for time keeping and DK, I will stop asking.

Great for Pax members to head off lead group several times and finish the runs as a group!

Thank you for sacrificing the warm bed this morning to log a few miles before the start of our work day! Only those who post understand.

  • One Last Visit in 2018…

5 RiverRun regulars posted for some miles this morning.  YHC called for the traditional Tarrington route and off we went.  Just before crossing through the BUSH, YHC heard the call of nature and one last visit to YHC’s favorite small deposit facility called for an audible and YHC headed straight down Robious Road crossing the finish line just in time.  The rest of the PAX continued on the route.  LugNut crushed his own route.

COT, Number-rama, Name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • New Year’s Day Convergence 0700 at Heartbreak Ridge.  Questions abound as to whether NoToll or SpiderRun or Daville will host 0530 beatdowns for opportunities to start the year off with a double-dip.  Consensus around the circle was that none of us would be at NoToll.

Great running with Rosie, Doozy and Flatline while it lasted.

Some great 2nd F at Starbucks with Rosie and Flatline.  We solved all the world’s problems.

    A great send-off to 2018.  Here’s to a great 2019 ahead.

No More Gumbo For You…in 2018!

  • Four for Hills and Miles on Christmas Eve

4 SOJ stalwarts went looking for hills and miles on Christmas Eve.  YHC had them in stock at RiverRun. The route was the River Downs Rollercoaster and With Rosie pulling us along, Doozy and I made it to YHC’s abode and back. LugNut continues to get stronger and crushed the big hill.

    Great run men. Merry Christmas!

  • The River Loop de Loop

Three common folk of River Run attended a cold 36 degree morning.

Route – 2 mile loop to river and return up around rear bus loop. Repeat once for 4 miles (ish), twice for 6 miles.

Moleskin – great job men. No Q on the sheet, Rosie asked YHC for a recommendation and the River Run was advocated (yes the route where you actually see the river). Some good conversation early on as Rosie held back with Bullseye and YHC to discuss holidays and owl attacks. Finished with 4.5 as we added a trip up to Huguenot and back around the bus loop at the end. YHC thought to name this workout the Horizontal Loop de Loop but would that have sounded borderline inappropriate? Trick question, there are no borders or inappropriate conversations in F3.
