  • Some miles between the rumblings

4 River Run regulars (now that Sugar Sock is a Monday regular!) posted to BWES to log some miles.  A simple 4-mile out and back route was called by YHC with the 5s and 6s adding mileage at the JRHS track as desired or as time would allow.

Great morning for a run.  Unfortunately, YHC caught a case of the J-villes and had to veer off course and make a pit stop….Fortunately, the mid-way point of the course was .2 miles from YHC abode, so comfort was not far away.

YHC has heard the saying that the aftershocks are worse when describing the damage from an earthquake…well, first-hand experience confirms that saying this morning.  Rough one all around, but we still managed to log some miles.

Great work guys…YHC will keep a closer eye on his diet next weekend.  A 7th birthday weekend, wreaked havoc on me this morning.

    Announcements:

    • Bring jackets, coats, sweaters, etc. to Marmaduke on Saturdays
    • CSAUP 10/20
    • Healing Place training – see Swiper
    • October challenges — 1 mile per day and maybe a Garmin group steps challenge?

No More Gumbo For You…until Tomorrow!

  • Back to the Future with McFly for River Run

4 SOJ vets and a Kotters by McFly gave us a 5-pack PAX for this morning’s River Run.  Cool temps, low humidity and a light drizzle made for great conditions…just try to avoid the many puddles along the route.

4-milers – head straight up Twin Team (YAY!) and into Powderham via Cawood.  Right on Drakewood, Left on Glendower.  Continue on Glendower until it turns into Bosham and then into Drakewood.  Right on Ellesmere out to Robious.  Cross Robious into Tarrington and head downhill on Ashwell past the poolhouse.  Left on Sherfield.  Left on Welby.  Right on Riverton Ridge. Left on James River and back to the Flag.

5-milers – turn left out of parking lot and first loop around by the high school, then pick up the 4-mile route.

COT, number-rama, name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Swiper is leading an 8K training team for the Healing Place – let him know when you can help.  After Dogpile on Saturdays.
    • Thoughts and prayers continue to go to the Lab Rat family

NMS – “poor guy hung on for a mile or two”…what a great line, right?  Well, YHC was that “poor guy” and I was strapped to the bumper of Rosie and McFly for about a mile and then it was over…they were gone!  Way to push it fellas and welcome back McFly.  Hope to see you back out soon.

LugNut and Sugar Sock skipped the foreplay and hit Twin Team hard from the beginning.  Nice work men!

Have a great Monday fellas.  SYITG.

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Cutting through the Humidity…wait, is that Iron Man?

4 PAX posted to River Run this morning to see what Gumbo had in store and it was an extra thick roux we had to run through this morning as the humidity was a million %.  Add in some headwinds and a little steady drizzle and it was a little soupy this morning, but that could not stop this foursome from logging some miles.

Traditional Tarrington route was called.  Rosie lit up his new shoe-lights and led the way.  We mostly stuck together for the first couple miles, then Rosie pulled away from me and Shakedown up the long Ashwell hill.  Then, in a move that only Rosie would do, he turned and went back down the big hill to scoop up Sugar Sock and pull him up the hill…well done, Rosie.  As he turned to come back toward Shakedown and me, Rosie looked like Iron Man with his headlamp and two shoe lights…looked 7 feet tall…BEAST!

Shakedown and I said “go get ’em Rosie” and continued on across Robious and through the “bush” to Twin Team, though our first attempt to enter the bush found thorns and prickers…ACCESS DENIED.

On the way down Twin Team, Shakedown’s internal system called an audible and he made a b-line back to to BWES to visit Gumbo’s Blue Box (it’s actually green).  YHC charged a small usage fee but continued on around the high school for 5 miles.  All convened back at BWES for COT, COR, NOR and Announcements.

No new announcements – just bring a friend to Dogpile this weekend for 4-year convergence.  See everyone there.

YHC took us out with prayers for our brethren to the South in the Carolinas.

  • The Big Dipper At River Run

3 determined PAX posted at River Run this morning to log some miles and see what YHC had planned.  As Rosie accurately guessed yesterday, YHC signed up for the Richmond half-marathon recently and so YHC locked down the River Run Q between now and November 10 (Race Day).  Today’s plan was to generally avoid Twin Team and Ashwell hills and just log some easy miles.  So it was a 2.2-mile loop down to the river and around the high school that resembles big dipper a bit.  Do it twice and, if time allows, add some extra to get to  5 miles.

It was great to have LugNut and Sugar Sock out logging some miles.  I ran with Sugar Sock for the first loop and then we split up on the second loop.  SS is back out after an extended bout with a virus.  Great to have you back out and hope you have kicked that virus for good.

Lug Nut is putting in the work.  Always great to have him out.  He gave us a quick rundown from BRR, but I can’t wait to hear stories throughout the week.  Great job guys!

  • Where’d Who Go

The humidity came back for the start of the work week and the 5 men at River Run.  5 miles route for all, or so we thought.  The route is into Tarrington and up the hill to Robious, back down the hill and do the Ashwell loop.

When YHC and Olivander decided to add an extra turn we thought we saw Singer starting around the loop, apparently this was not him.  Ran into Gumbo and Honeymoon who thought Singer was behind them so YHC and Olivander circled back to find Singer.  After a couple hills and no Singer we turned around and headed back to the AO.  Singer found us in his car and let us know that the man we saw was A) obviously not him and B) he had taken a different route back to the AO.  No worries, everyone got back safely and Olivander and YHC got a little extra mileage in, with a great push at the end too.

This was Olivander’s first time at River Run and the hills of Tarrington.  It’s no BRR but it’s decent prep for the hills there. Hope you make it back out again soon. Due to the extra mileage the COT was missing a couple PAX, TClaps to Gumbo for sticking around and waiting for us, also for doing Freddie Mercuries as we rolled into the parking lot.

  • The Evil Twin

YHC arrived, first on scene, wondering who would appear and my, still raining!! YHC was on vacation last week with sunny skies and one 10 minute rain shower! Really…….the PAX immediately started to roll in. Good to see the PAX members arrive and few training for the BRR and one FNG awaiting Shakedown, last in! YHC explained the route with 2 groups-4 and 5 milers.

The route=up Twin Team and R on Brigstock. 4 milers run to Helmsley and back to AO. 5 milers run to the end of Brigstock and back to the AO. Bam, 0530===3 PAX members turning out 4 and 5 turning out 5.

Mumblechatter was good in the 5 mile pack and the pace was 9 minute miles. Great work PAX. 4 milers did a great job too as 5 milers did not catch.

Numer-ama, Name-r-ama, Welcome FNG Brad aka Pipeline. Announcements: Puppy Pile Saturday, 0700, see Marv. Convergence Labor Day, see Spit.

    YHC took us out.

NMS=Honeymoon and Bleeder churning miles for the BRR. Nice work and keep logging miles. Lug Nut states, ” I have done two.” Way to log miles as well Lug.

Shakedown and Pipeline are buddies who work for the Evil Twins, Dominion Power and VDOT,  with environmental protection. So 5 mile group mumblechatter back in bound involved THE pipeline-who, what, when, where, how? Thanks for the intel, Pipeline. And WELCOME!!! Keep posting and it only gets better!

4 mile group crushed their run! And YHC is sure the mumblechatter was even better!

Monday morning run is superb. Great run and continue the greatness throughout the week!!

  • Kubota, meet Twin Team…

7 veterans, but one Twin Team virgin, posted to River Run to log some miles.  Several folks are putting in the miles in preparation of BRR.  Others are checking off a box  on their way to completing the Summer Challenge.  Either way, it was a great group this morning to pound the pavement.

We took off out of BWES and turned right…yep, that means we are going up Twin Team.  Up Twin Team to the second right onto Cawood and into Powderham.  First right onto Drakewood.  First left onto Glendower.  Glendower becomes Bosham and then Drakewood again (unless you are Bleeder and Lug Nut and you jumped onto Ellesmere off Glendower before the changing road names).  Right onto Ellesmere and out to Robious Road.  Kubota loved Twin Team so much he decided to head back and down Twin Team.  The rest of us crossed Robious and into Tarrington and down Ashwell hill toward the River.  With a left just past the poolhouse and a few other turns, we ended up back at BWES.

All returned safely, without getting lost, by the closing bell.  With mileage ranging from 4 to 5.5.  Good run guys.

COT, COR, NOR and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Puppy Pile 8/25 – Marv has the Q.
    • CSAUP coming up 10/20 — log some miles and drink some beers to prepare
    • Labor Day Convergence at Three Lakes Park, which we determined is 30-minutes away from everywhere.
    • Breaking Bread 8/26 – Gumbo has the Q and I’m bringing my 2.1 and 2.2 (12 and 10) – like last August.  Would love a couple PAX members to join.  Let me know if you ware interested and we will coordinate what to bring.  If you haven’t been yet, it is a great way to give back and give a few hours to folks who need it.

    NMS:

Twin Team punched everyone in the gut this morning, but Phonics and Rosie were off like lightening after we reached the flat portion of the run.  They circled back a few times to check on us mortals.  Way to push guys.  It was great running with Honeymoon this morning.  Our paces were all over the board and we circled back a couple times to make sure we hadn’t lost Kubota  or that he hadn’t broken down.  It was a little confusing with several different runners in our group and others going every which way.  Bleeder and LugNut cruised right along and blazed their own trail.

    Well done fellas!

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Brutal way to start Monday

3 SOJ regulars showed up to Twin Team this morning. 2 to log miles and 1 getting ready for BRR. 4, 5, and 6 mile route planned but only 5 mile route needed. YHC showed up right behind Honeymoon and Gumbo was not far behind. 0530…..3 F3 warriors started their Monday on a glorious note.

Pretty simple….Up Twin Team and R on Brigstock til Brigstock changed to Netherfield and back to the flag. Roughly 5.2 according Honeymoon and Gumbo.

Numer-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: HDHH at Kuba Kuba 2 Wednesday. Convergance Labor Day, somewhere in Da-ville so see Spit.

Gumbo and Honeymoon, outstanding way to start YHC’s day. Awesome to move the feet and pound the pavement with you gentlemen this Monday!!

  • Soggy shoes and steep hills

A fearless 5 PAX showed up for a rainy Monday morning at RiverRun – there was no shortage of rain or hills.

The route – Queen’s Grant Hill to Gumbo’s house and back. Turn around at 23 minutes and try and get back in 22.

Rosie, Honeymoon, and Swiper stayed as a group the majority of the time and finished the full route for a little over 5 miles. YHC took the medium pace and finished at 4.5 miles (just enough distance to get to the bottom of the second hill and turn around and climb back up 🙁 ). Lugnut took up the rear guard position and was back at the shovel flag when I returned – not sure on final distance.

YHC took the Q for this one last week to force myself to post – good thing, because there is a near zero chance that I would have been running in conditions like this morning if not for F3. You all help me to become stronger, both physically and mentally. Thanks for pulling me along this morning!

~Why walk when you can Wheelbarrow?

  • Partner Run – A day late…or two

2 strong waited in the car witnessing torrential downpours and sharp lightning strikes.  As 5:30 approaches we step out of the cars, the rain stops and YHC gives the command and we’re off.

Loop around the school, right on Riverton Ridge, right on Welby, left on Edmonton, left on Ashwell down and around the long loop and back for a solid 4 miles.

Fun run with EF Hutton as he knocks another AO off of his summer tour.  Being the kind gentleman that Hutton is he offered to run with YHC.  YHC, never being the fastest member of the PAX sets the mission to run fast enough that he can’t walk beside me, mission accomplished…for the most part.  Only saw one wild animal and chatted about a lot of good stuff along the way.  Fun run, great way to kick off a week!

    Peace
