  • Aisle 5 returns

7 strong posted in the rain this week for a RiverRun in standard American English.

Thang:  Run into the park and around the back of the school (found some fun new toys for TwinTeam) then over to the track, a little over a mile.  Speed work – 800 repeats – Run 2 laps hard then a recovery lap.  Repeato until YHC calls time.

Jville and Honeymoon were pushing hard through the 800 laps, YHC knows how much Jville loves speed work and was glad to see him out today.  Wilson and Aisle 5 caught up on their recovery laps, it was no Subaru but it was good to see.

When YHC pulled up there were 2 cars already waiting, 2 more than showed up last week, so YHC was pleased he would have some running company.  Then Aisle 5 (Kotters) stepped out of one of the cars and YHC was even more excited.  He has been limited in action since a knee injury over the summer but it was great to see him back out.  Aisle 5 requested the 3 mile option so YHC accommodated.

Everyone did a great job today, speed work is a little wrinkle that is good to mix in every once in a while.  Thanks for indulging the Q.

Punisher at 6:45 pm today for anyone that wants to try out a PM workout today.

    Stay dry, Rosie.

  • Las Colinas lluviosas

Un corredor aparecio en la lluvia para correr unos cuantos kilometros.  El Q duerme en que asi corrí solo.  Una milla para empezar entonces repiticiones de las colinas.

    Que tengas un gran día.

  • Time Trials at River Run

5 veterans posted on this beautiful and cool morning for some flat time trials at River Run.  YHC charted an almost 2-mile loop and challenged the PAX to complete as many loops as possible in 45 minutes.  Rosie took off like he was shot our of a canon and completed 3+ loops and more than 6 miles.  Swiper and Honeymoon deviated from the course a bit here and there and completed just under 6 miles.  YHC and Singer kept a strong hold on the six and logged just under 5 miles.  Well done by all.

    No more Gumbo for you!

  • Celestial Navigation

A magnificent 7 showed up for a surprise Lockjaw Q as part of Tuckahoe Takeover.  The route took us across the road to Twin Team, on Brigstock, a few minor turns, and back to Brigstock for the home approach down Twin Team.  No one got lost for very far.

    YHC took us out.

    NMS:

YHC plotted this route without consulting a topographical map nor realizing how truly dark it is out here.  When Lugnut arrived, YHC went over the intended route and it was conveyed that this was the unintended 9 mile route earlier in the summer.  As the rest of the Pax arrived, there was alarm from Honeymoon that I was confirming with Lugnut and making gestures in the southern direction.  I guess he hasn’t forgotten the extra miles?

Gumbo and Rosie said that Twin Team would be a treat.  Hills in darkness can be beneficial when you just embrace the road and go.  However, it can also play into thoughts of a never ending ascent, as Twin Team readily provided.  Sustained hill repeats here would rival the toughest hills across all AOs in RVA.

With minimal light pollution, the fall night sky was remarkable.  Orion was very crisp and radiant as well as many other constellations.  I am pretty sure I navigated back to Twin Team using the North Star at one point.

It was great getting to know Lugnut a little better over the course of several miles today.

    ABT,

    Lockjaw

  • A Swampy River Run

4 Stalwarts posted in the gloom this morning to fight through the swampy and foggy air and retake the Hills of Tarrington.  1 LIFO was mistaken for a different PAX member who knew the traditional route, so he was left in the dust to chart his own path in the darkness.  All was well as the PAX reconvened at the flag for COT and for YHC to take us out.

    Mileage varied from 4 – 5 miles.

When YHC pulled into the parking lot at 0515 to secure the AO, he found a woman waiting in her car to meet friends…not YHC.  She looked a little concerned until her two friends showed up and they moseyed off.  For a minute there, I thought we might have wrestle for rights to the parking lot.

Nice work men.  It was great running and chatting with Wedding Singer – thank for the company Singer.

    No more Gumbo for you!

  • Working out some lactic acid…

3 vets posted for River Run this morning – 2 beasts working out the lactic acid from BRR and YHC determined to start getting his running legs back.  Expecting a light crew and possibly some BRR survivors, YHC decided today would be a Hill Holiday.  Instead, we hit the track and put in some flat miles (about 3.8 in total) with 3 brief pain stops (25 merkins and 25 LBCs) at random intervals.

After returning back to the flag with 10 minutes to go, we did some COP (Slow Imperial Walkers, cotton pickers and stretching) and some Mary – Rocky Balboas, LBCs, APDs, Heels to Heaven and Superman.

Major respect to Honeymoon and Rosie for posting this morning.  Always great to run and chat with you boys and thanks to BRR, I was able to actually keep up with you guys today!

Great respect and props for all BRR participants.  Way to slay those hills and push through the pain guys.  Sounds like an epic weekend and it sounds like all of you crushed it and exceeded personal expectations.  Way to go!

    Announcements:

    • ReeseStrong 5K and Crabs this Saturday.  Still time to sign up.
    • Convergence 9/30 – come out at 0600, stay until 0800 if you can.  Second workout starts at 0700 for late risers.  Bring a friend or two.

    Have a great day men!

    No more Gumbo for you!

  • New Shoes?

4 strong mosey into the darkness

    The thang

Mosey through Tarrington up Robious across to Ellmsere take a right, through cul-de-sac back around to Brigstock over the bridge through the field …… and back to Bettie Weaver.

    Moleskin

The plan was a nice easy tapering run to break in some new shoes in preparation for the BRR.  Nearly a fail on all accounts.  YHC shoes immediately created blisters limiting the run to more damage control than proper tapering.  And the direction’s given to the speedy pax left out a couple of small turns.  Ultimately all returned on time for a proper COP and out.

  • Good guys, bad guys & Lug Nutz?

4 strong answered the bell on an awesome Monday morning!

    The Thang

The traditional route through Tarrington with the 5 milers making the loop and 4 miler proceeding immediately up Ashwell.  Turn left on Robious and right on Ellesmere.  Follow to Brigstock and turn RIGHT.  Left onto Twin Team and back to Bettie Weaver.

    Moleskin

In an effort to redeem oneself for the Q where the PAX got lost and ran roughly 9 miles trying to find their way back to the AO, YHC plotted the path for a repeato!  Success at last, all members of the PAX returned safely and on time.   Not that there weren’t opportunities for chaos as Wedding Singer had the runners in front of him disappear at a key intersection.  Rosie of course provided some local clarity and Honeymoon is now an expert in all roads traveling through the Robious corridor.  The only thing missing was our guest/beast from the northeast, LabRat and Phonics.  Come on back fella’s!

  • Tapering?

As BRR approaches 4 pavement pounders headed out toward Gumbo’s house on a rollercoaster of fun.  The route was the Rollercoaster into River Downs, back to Gumbo’s cul-de-sac and back home.  Add hills where desired to double back or cut short as needed.

Had YHC listened to the latest podcast before the run I may have backed off and and talked to Lugnut about the tactical driving experience.  I have not made it through the whole thing but the first half created a lot of questions I wish I had before the run.  Wedding Singer is ready for the BRR, whether he knows it or not, he’s looking the part.  He’s also hoping the weather down there is more like New England last week and not the soupy mess we ran through this morning.  Honeymoon tried to coax Wilson out this morning but he seems to be taking lessons from Lockjaw and is in taper mode after going strong last month.

The eclipse is today in case you haven’t heard.  Be safe.  Also, take a note from Lab Rat when running in the dark, try to wear lights, light colors, reflective vests, etc.

  • Add Twin Team

3 BRR trainees posted at RiverRun for some early week hills on a sunny and 70 morning.

The route is the standard Riverton into Tarrington, Ashwell Loop down Twin Team.  Only this time instead of adding a loop around the school, add Twin Team until time is up.  Unfortunately we only got 1 time up Twin Team before it was time to head back to the VSF.

Quick countarama/namearama to get the PAX off on their day.

We almost lost EF Hutton in a hole coming through the gap in the woods.  It was a new location Honeymoon had found.  No evidence that he was trying to sabotage the Richmond BRR team.  Good thing EF Hutton is ok, YHC watched him almost go down and had visions of Swirly’s ankle.  May need to trim the bushes to get through the usual location.

As far as I know we are still looking for a runner or two for BRR.  See TYA if you enjoy having fun on weekends.
