Old Stony Point ruck

  • Ruckhenge 123125

8 of the pax came out for the final edition of RH for the year. The gander through the woods went a little long but it was worth it. Great 2nd F as always, thanks for the company on this frosty morning. Heres to the new year and reaching all those goals. SYITG!

Announcements: Convergence at Dogpile @ 7am.

NMS: As always, i felt so invigorated after spending the start of the morning with the fellas. Reflecting on fatherhood, the challenges of the last year and looking forward to whats next. In the past few years I have come across the idea of the past year review. Popularized by Tim Ferris, it suggests an alternative to the typical new years resolutions that we are all too familiar with. Instead, review your past year week by week, month by month and put everything you did, people you engaged with and anything else that you experienced in either a good column or a negative column. Summarize the top positive items/events/company and start planning more of them in your new year. Trips, people who you enjoyed being around, anything that was positive, then as much as possible avoid “signing up” for the negative ones out of obligation or FOMO. I am just really thankful for the opportunity to spend so much time with the brothers of the F3 community. More to come. Have a great, safe end to 2025.

Twas a merry Christmas eve morning that saw 5 of the pax assemble for a walk down some of Stony Point’s well illuminated streets. Nothing fancy today though we did tackle a few hills. Thanks for coming out this morning and here’s to a great festive season.

Announcements: New Years Day convergence at Dogpile.

  • wear your BROWN pants

The NOS cold-weather ruckers brought along our beloved 60# Sandy for an up-hill down-dale trek across new terrain. The promise was something challenging enough that wearing brown pants might hide the fact you shat yourself in the process. The goal was to use fingers of woods behind/between neighborhoods to circumnavigate an apartment complex near SPFP – and we succeeded in that goal. Also it turns out there are some really lovely open hardwood spaces to walk through in these back neighborhood nomansland areas. Enjoyed the banter as PAX tried to figure out where they were during the ruck, and felt challenged with some deep thoughts at Einstein. Until next time, yours AYE! ~DTH

    COMING UP:

3…no 4… actually 5 of RH’s usual suspects came out for the Christmassy vibes on hand on this snowy and icy morning. With a fresh breeze on hand we did a parking lot lap to wait for stragglers before heading for the woods. Good thing everyone is sporting the bright orange beanies of late. A traverse across Larus Park was followed by a Stony Point FP stretch that saw most of us get to practice some of our balance skills while under weight. As always good banter and convo to cover the miles. Thanks for coming out lads. A great start to the day.

  • Thars Gold in Them Hills

Well, that was quite the adventurous morning. The original Q NTB dropped out with the latest viral bug and Sable’s also still sick after world travels. YHC offered to Q if nobody else wanted it only to be shaken awake by the M saying “your alarm is goin off again” just 5min before the 0500 launch. So YHC texted L Woods the “coming in hot” message and launched into 16 layers to try and keep warm, only to find a permafrost on the truck blocking the windshield view. Showed up 3min late to find L Woods, PR, and Dealer taking a warmup lap in the lot. Then YHC was told nobody else had a route or desire to think of one, so it was “OK, well let’s go this way” having not actually thought of a route myself, but YHC was willing to see where the good Lord might lead us. Following the ends of our noses, mine being the only unprepared one not lit by a headlamp, we found a route across Huguenot and down into Bon Air, and YHC decided a jaunt through woods and new terrain would be fun. Well, we may have quietly trespassed a tiny bit and were then concerned for the pack of bloodthirsty howling coyotes that turned out to be a very upset toddler in a nearby house (probably freaked out by the ghosts of the woods), but we made it through swamp and bramble to climb hand over fist up the railroad tracks berm. Then YHC decide we’d try a little trail called “Don’t Surf” on Google Maps that turned out to be quite a nice mountain bike trail (inspiring the title of this BB), and by the time we exited the beautiful Bon Air woods we had just enough time to speed ruck the return route, all uphill as a straight shot along McRae Rd to COT and coffee at Einstein’s. Prayers for Dealer’s daughter turning six, and for PR’s BIL with early-onset Alzheimers, and for Wildcat. Discussion in Einstein’s revolved around various topics, but included some thoughts on habits, the 80/20 rule, substance use, and parents hotboxing THC with their kids on board. It’s a wild world we live in, and we can’t expect others to make the right choices, but we can live by example. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • Time to Beat: 52min

Game time decision – neither the 60# Sandy or the 50# KB made it out of the back of YHC’s Taco for this morning’s drippy walk through the dark woods. With just four PAX present, and HP going easy on his knee, we opted for a speed ruck around the perimeter loop of Larus Park – no shortcuts, no stops, 52 min in total time with the stopwatch starting and ending in the Einstein lot. This establishes a baseline time for other Q’s to try and beat in future. NTB had to bounce after COT to catch baby vomit before it sullied his angelic wife’s honor, while the rest of us enjoyed a long and coffee drenched discussion about a number of books. Happy Thanksgiving brothers. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • You don’t have to do rucksack burpees with L Woods, you get to.

For a long time, YHC hesitated to Q Ruckhenge out of a lingering fear of getting lost. But after being inspired by Bru’s VQ last week, YHC finally took the plunge and stepped up to lead the night before. The route wound its way through the woods, broken up by several stops for squats and overhead presses.

As the pax emerged from the trees, the path continued behind the shopping center. Right behind Granite Hill Restaurant, just when everyone thought we were wrapping up, YHC called for 11s: donkey kicks on the wall paired with burpees, much to DK’s dismay.

Strong work by all the pax, and in the end, the only thing that truly got lost was one of YHC’s gloves.

Announcements: Chili Cook off November 23 @ The Alamo, Ultimate Frisbee Thanksgiving Day @ Timberwolf (530); Thanksgiving Day Convergence at 7.

  • Welcome to BRURUCK!

05:00 on this chilly Wednesday, 5 HIMs gathered for the BRU VQ. Since it was still pitch dark and relatively unfamiliar territory, YHC decided to keep things close to base so we wouldn’t get lost in the woods.

Warmerama – Getting the blood flowing with a brisk hike around the strip mall. When rounding the corner, the PAX were thinking they were in for a walk down monotony-lane, but leave it to YHC to get things complicated quickly.

The BRURUCK: With a bit of imagination and concentration, the BRURUCK started to take shape. On Each letter the PAX did a fitting exercise using their rucks:
    – B: 5 x Burpees
    – R: 10 x Rows / arm
    – U: 15 x Up-and-downs (Calve raises)
    – R: 15 x Squats (Because YHC didn’t want to take off his pack for Rows again)
    – U: Same as above
    – C: 15 x Crunches
    – K: 10 x King Merkins (Like normal Merkins, but with a “K”)

We finished off with a Quick “RVA” and then set out to explore the lake. On return the PAX completed two rings of fire and closed off with a COT.

Announcements: Chili Cook off, Daddy Daughter Dance.
Coffee and Chapter 9 of Atomic Habits.

  • Full Beaver Mooners

9 studly SOJ NOS brothers who all appreciate a big beautiful beaver (moon) gathered to ruck and chat as we do every week. No Q on the sheet, and nobody jumping forward to lead at 0500, so YHC grabbed the reins and launched into Larus. Enjoyed conversing all things hunting and venison processing with Dealer and the PAX exited the woods to take on some streets, bernie for the hills, squats for the SIX. Probably covered about 2.5 miles and ended a few minutes early for some quality coffeerama time. Thx for letting me lead gents. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • Quads of Steel

YHC grabbed the Q sheet earlier this week and by making this commitment, forced himself to learn something more about the Bon Air geography. It was a short lesson, however, as we stayed within the confines of the shopping plaza for the workout.

Our usual 3 mile rucking workout was something a little different today. We rucked, we lifted our rucks. We rucked and then we walked forwards and backwards up a hill. We repeated this cycle 3 times. Those backwards walks will definitely build quads of steel for future workouts.

Announcements: Chili cook off and Daddy Daughter dance.

Prayer requests: Sable and his family as they head overseas.

YHC took us out in prayer.
