Old Stony Point ruck

  • Ruckhenge 100825

On this potentially wet morning we had 8 of our RH regulars join for a brief venture into the woods of Larus. We kept the pace comfortable given our men returning from GrowRUCK this weekend.

Coffeeteria was focused on the building of awareness of our daily habits (Chapter 4 of Atomic Habits). The challenge has been set to identify a habit that we would like to change….permanently and not just fleetingly, a change that will get us closer to being the person we aspire to be. As always some solid humor and good banter was appreciated. Thanks for joining.

Announcements/Prayers: Congrats to L Woods, NTB and Pad Thai on completing the GrowRUCK this past weekend. By all accounts they represented F3RVA excellently. Prayers for L Woods and the family as his old man deals with a cancer diagnosis.

  • Winning = 2 pounds and 1 year lighter

Seven ruck studs embraced a cool morning to celebrate OC’s successful weight and age loss program. The secret to his success is simply believing he is a year older than he actually is for a while, and then DK reveals the best birthday present possible – “bro, you’re turning 49, not 50…”

    The THANG:

YHC set an EMOM timer to go off every 5 minutes at which point all PAX stop rucking to complete x3 Burpees (ruck packs ON), and the #60 sandbag is passed to another HIM.

The PAX completed three loops around the Stony Point Business Complex, and stopped a couple times at the patio area outside Gelati Celesti for variable core reps and review of the F3 Mission, Core Principles, and Credo.

Variable mumble chatter included, but was not limited to, advice on how to survive Grow Ruck, making and breaking good and bad habits, and the weather. We enjoyed a lovely coffeerama at Einstein afterwards discussing chapter 3 of “Atomic Habits” and the PAX was fully satisfied with all three F’s being honored.

10 of F3RVAs men gathered at Einsteins Bagels for this weeks edition of RH. Weather was perfect and after the usual welcome slagging off from the crusher of oranges, we were off. We began on the red trail, linked to green and then slipped under Chippenham parkway for the Stony Point sections. We passed around a very light 60lb sand bag for some extra fun and covered just over 3 miles this morning. As always the conversation was great and our follow up coffeeteria was full of humor. Good discussion on how identity drives our habits and vice versa. Thanks for joining lads!

Numbers, Names, Announcements, NTB took us out.

  • The Hatchet

A platoon of seven HIM’s buried the hatchet into a 3 mile ruck where we explored Bon Iron, went off road, walked the railroad tracks a ways, jumped off tracks and onto a surprise trail, then off trail and over creeks, up hill and down dale, and once back on the roads of Bon Air, we concluded with a neighborhood loop. Our beloved 60 pound sandbag was shared around during the ruck, but the real highlight was coffeerama afterwards discussing the first chapter of Atomic Habits at Einstein Bagels. So let’s go ahead and throw out every idea of setting goals and press into what it means to change our day to day systems. 1% at a time will eventually pay big dividends. Yours AYE! ~DTH

Beautiful morning for a few miles under our rucks. Lots of mumble chatter about the upcoming GROWRUCK event in NC, just not with the two HIMs doing it. They may have been doing a more challenging ruck somewhere else this morning. Just a hint of trail and then some of Bon Air streets. Mixed it up by adding a mosey loop midway. Thanks for the company gents.

  • On Time Arrival

Seven frequent ruckers pounded the pavement for another 3.5mi trek around Bon Air. We pushed back from the gate a minute or so late, but after encountering some turbulent hills YHC landed the rucking plane perfectly at 0600. Great mumblechatter by all as is accustomed on these Wednesday mornings and the group once again attempted to understand the chasm between men and women to no avail.

  • Say Hello to my Little Friend…

10 gloom studs hit the mean streets of Bon Air for the latest edition of sherpa training. YHC brought a 50# KB for the PAX to bring along and share around. Dealer showed off his hulkish hand strength by just palming the ball-side. We covered 3.6 miles in just a few minutes over an hour. Glad to have OC and Scram join us again. Prayers for L Woods’ dad just diagnosed with lung cancer yesterday, and for his M’s pregnancy ultrasound tomorrow. Coffeerama at Einstein afterwards was lovely – took in a history lesson from our Double Respect veteran (Scram), heard about how NTB is going to make over F3 Cville, and ran into Machinehead who swears he’ll post again once his knee ?meniscus heals up. See ya’ll for NTB’s sweet-16 (JK, 33) Bday Q tomorrow at The Forge. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • Ruckhenge 082025

Seven of F3RVAs finest met at the usual spot before embarking on a tour of the local surroundings—Stony Point & Larus Park to be exact. No coupons this time round, just 3 miles under packs with some banter to lighten the load. Thanks for the company gents. Continuing discussion on the birth of Western civilization was limited given the concurrent reading load and back to school demands of life. Till the next time. SYITG

    Announcements:

    • Labor Day convergenceUpcoming
    • CSAUP opportunity on 9/26 to ruck and bootcamp: details forthcoming. Probably something like a 30 minute beatdown that will start Friday night from Alamo, ruck to Satan’s Hill, another 30 minute beatdown, ruck to Old Hundred, another 30 minute beatdown, back to Alamo. ALL WELCOME!
  • If a tree falls in a forest…?

Eight HIM’s showed up to carry a log through Larus Park and ponder the question “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” This philosophical thought experiment questions perception and observation and is credited to 18th century Irish philosopher George Berkeley, who argued that “to be is to be perceived.” Sooooo, did the sad clowns going into Planet Fitness perceive and stand amazed at the splendor of muscle-bound HIM’s jogging by under a mighty log? Probably not…haha… BUT, there WERE eight gloom brothers who proudly watched one another take a turn under an uncomfortably heavy log. A quote from my daily devotional “Walking with a Limp” by Neb Hayden, today highlights faithfulness:

When you do find one who is faithful to follow through you have found a rare person who will soon be trusted by many, simply because he shows up!

    Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • The Traveling Jugalos

A magnificent seven rode into town on 4 (or 6) cylinder stallions to assemble in the early gloom for another round of Ruckhenge. Four water jugs appeared from the bed of L Woods truck, but they would have to wait their turn while the PAX attempted to escape the rain on the Larus Park trails. After a swift 2.5 mile ruck we returned to those four lonely water jugs where we used our remaining 15minutes for a weighted triple check! Weighted squats, weighted merkins, and water jug farmers carry to time the rounds was the name of the game. The PAX took the challenge well and finished strong.

Coffeerama at Einstein was superb as we discussed Herbert Muller’s assessment of Christianity’s role and reaction to societal changes in the west. Uses of the Past has been a great conversation starter on these Wednesday mornings and I hope you choose to join us even if you aren’t reading the book.
