Old Stony Point ruck

  • The Rucktastic Four

A fantastic foursome set off from Stony Point shopping center at 0500 burdened with the tried and true stressors of work, newborn babies, and backpacks full of heavy $%@#! Approximately 3.15 miles were logged on a new route through the neighborhood and the PAX ended with 10min of weighted movements in the parking lot so our pump was fresh for crushing bagels and coffee at Einstein’s afterwards.

Many great topics of discussion today including the joys of newborns, government contracts, “loving” your mammon (Q-Source word for job), and which state has the most ridiculous legal pitfalls to traverse.

  • No Pain or Chaos

4 men, former representatives of Death and Liberty platoons, met for a some quick miles through Larus Park and the streets around Ruckhenge.

Here is how it went. Slow start across the parking where we did some good mornings, and prying goblet squats before hitting the trails. Some good banter and reminiscing took place with our returning brother NTB. Wrapped it up with a few down to the ground and up agains wearing packs as a little reminder of our Bootcamp at the War Memorial during GTE47!

  • Rucking Bells

Four rucked up for this morning’s edition of Ruckhenge. Near perfect weather placed us in the zone.

We began with a 2 mile ruck through the trails of Larus Park and BTTF (or where it will be next week). We then engaged in a session of ruck bells as follows.

Pair up for, I go then you go rounds of:

    1. 16 single arm, amour building complex (ABC—ruck swing, clean, overhead press, swing, switch hand, swing, clean, overhead press, 2 squats). Next round start opposite side.
    2. 5 sets of 5 rucks up from the ground and overhead press
    3. 10 sets of 10 single arm hard style ruck swings, alternating sides

Followed by coffee and banter, thanks lads.

    1. Fake it till you make it.

Fake it till you make it.

Sometimes it IS your first rodeo.

5 hearty HIMs conquered the darkness with Ruck Star style. YHC (Rodeo Clown) faked it with confidence (only 2 wrong turns) for my Virgin Q as we kept up a brisk pace at nearly 2.5 miles of steamy hills and swampy bottoms. With the PAX begging for more, we returned to the flag with enough time to squeeze in two sets of Merkins – of course we were wearing our rucks. YHC needed the extra practice (learning how to count) as I worked out the kinks with my first Q. Thanks were given in COT for our fellowship and how the PAX supported a brother in his successful quest for employment. Tasty food and beverages at Einstein’s were enjoyed by all. We washed things down with our ever-savory (and sometimes spicy) conversation.  High 5’s were exchanged as we headed out to conquer the day!

    2. Down to the River

4 SOJ mountain men set off toward the river with the goal of providing a true Deliverance experience to our First Watch paddlers. Fantastic conversation abounded on the hilly terrain rucking through Laurus Park and down to the James via Cherokee, and indeed paddlers were spied from afar – but sadly too far away to note whether or not any of them had a pretty mouth… Having briefly enjoyed the river sunrise, the four-PAX complete the 3.46 mile journey BTTF and COT included reading Mr Roger’s Juneteenth post to commemorate the holiday and reflect on the meaning of American freedom. Coffeerama sitting outside Einstein’s was divine. SYITG, DTH

    3. Tales of the West

Four ruckers joined YHC for their inaugural tour of Larus Park for the second iteration of the newly minted Ruckhenge AO. At the 0500 launch we set off around the backside of the Stony Point Shopping Center and it was not long before Gumbo began to recall stories of the good ‘ol days working at the Ukrops. Great stories of the Pax’s travels out West continued to highlight our one-hour, 3-mile trek around the wooded trails, the highlight of which concerned the near-death experience of Gumbo and Redbird as they came face-to-bumper with a bison out on the Great Planes. All of F3RVA is grateful Gumbo narrowly avoided a collision so that he could be with us today and send Redbird off to USMA West Point in a handful of days! Coffeteeria at Einstein’s capped off a great morning in the gloom!

    4. Welcome to Ruckhenge!

9 men rose early and made the trek to Ruckhenge. A low key lap around the parking lot (to give any stragglers a chance to join) was followed by brief warmarama and then a quick pace hike behind the shopping center to the trails of Larus Park. There we traversed the undulating trails while engaged in steady upbeat banter. A loop completed along the way shown by blazes of many colors—yellow, red, green, and red again saw us back to the Flag in 3.1 miles. Thanks for a great start to Ruckhenge and the coffeeteria that followed.

Numberama,/names, announcements and prayers with DTH taking us out. Till next time.
