  • Read the Fine Print…

They say the fallacy with communication is the assumption it has actually taken place.  This statement was in full display given how some chose to follow the direction of the maps versus reading the note in the pre-blast requesting the opposite direction.

Alas, YHC has learned a valuable lesson here….

  • 90 Second Episodes

Eight steam generators gathered in the gloom for today’s not-frozen edition of Spider Run. After a little bit of convincing, everyone followed:

    The Route

    • West around the lake and across the path to University
    • University to a left on Ralston
    • Ralston to a right on River
    • Right on Glenbrooke Circle then left on W Glenbrooke Circle
    • 4s go to Summit and return
    • 5s go up Summit and back down, turning right to continue the Glenbooke loop
    • Everyone return via Ralston and University

    Announcements

    • Prayers for Pucker as his son recovers and OBT as his brother recovers
    • Spider Run is back baby!

    Moleskine

Perfect weather for a run around the lake and to head west today. While some flirted with long sleeves, none were needed today. Glad OBT was able to get a tour of some new streets to challenge his preference for a grid.

Good post COT chatter as no one was in a hurry to warm up.

Next few weeks Qs are open. Sign up!

  • Carl Spackler is in the house…

An elite 8 arrived toat Spider Run which included a surprise visit from my son – which absolutely made my day.

Most had studied the routes which involved an out-and-back…crossing the Huguenot bridge and then heading West…

Not surprisingly, Spackler (Saab Jr.) made it look easy while I worked to keep up…and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • Mad Dog Marv vs. Ravishing Rammer Rude

Faceplant would have loved the route so much if only he hadn’t gotten lost on the way there.  Here’s that route:

    • UR Drive uphill
    • L on Campus
    • Take path and L on Wheeler
    • R on Ridge Top
    • L on Patterson
    • L on Westham

    4s

    • L on Club Vista
    • L on College
    • R on Keller
    • R on Westhampton Way
    • L on UR Dr back to VSF

    5s

    • L on Club Vista
    • L on College
    • R behind baseball field
    • Circle Lake back to VSF

    6s

    MOLESKIN

While awaiting the last runners to arrive back for the COT, Marv admitted that 70 yo Bob “Rammer” Ramsey, play-by-play guy for St. Louis, gave him a few good hooks to the rib cage during VCU’s dustup with the Billikens Friday night.  Marv is planning his revenge.  I’m thinking a Tombstone Piledriver through the scorer’s table at the A-10 Tourney.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Prayers for our Union (and also for Canada, ha)

  • WipeOut

Nine of F3RVA’s best looking non-millennials gathered for miles.  Here’s where the Pax went:

    • Take UR Drive to the Batcave and out to River Rd
    • Cross shopping center onto Westham Station
    • Continue on S Ridge to River Rd
    • Reverso and left on Old Bridge then bear right on Highland (5s and 6s)
    • Add the rest of Old Bridge plus Panorama (6s)
    • Continue on Westham Station, back through the Batcave to the VSF

    Numberama, Nameorama, COT

    MOLESKIN

YHC believes Curling is awesome, Bodos disagrees.  Bodos is wrong.  U.S. Men’s Bobsledding needs more practice.  Apologizes for the lateness of the backblast.  A little forgetful since I’m not a millennial.

  • Strong Hedges

Nine Spider Run stalwarts gathered for today’s not-so-cold-but-still-frigid edition of riding/rucking/running the streets of Westham. After a brief appearance by TYA who sounded like his tongue had frozen, off we went for:

Bundle up everyone. Depending on if you are a US model or a EURO model fan, we could get a little or a lot! Time to hit the stores!

  • Whiskey Aides Circulation

Twelve pavement pounders, including one from DR, found the hidden entrance to the Spider Run AO and gathered for instructions. Two launched early, with one more hoping for a ruck partner. Luckily he showed right at 0530 so off we went for:

    The Route

Out and backs today. Reverse direction from how we normally hit these hills.

Out around the lake and through the path to University, most avoiding the temptation to turn left over the bridge. Up University to south on Westham. Westham cross River to Country Squire. Country Squire to left on South Ridge. Right on Ross to the bottom then back up to South Ridge.

    4s return via Country Squire.

5s / 6s take a right on South Ridge and continue to Old Bridge.

5s return back up South Ridge & Country Squire.

6s up Highland before returning back up South Ridge & Country Squire.

Great to see the crew back out at Spider Run this morning. Even with some grumblings about the out-and-back route and the fact that 5s and 6s were almost back home on Westham Station but were told to reverse course, the PAX had a marvelous time. YHC personally enjoyed hitting those hills from a different approach, which is all that really matters.

    Make it a great day!

    MOLESKINE

What YHC thought might be a brisk mosey/ walk, turned into 5 plus miles and a 5k PR (at least for 2025) thanks to Chippendale’s arrival.  No rest for the weary afterall.  Happy New Year.

Yep it was just YHC. Can’t compete with the 12 days. Decided to run a modified 5 fingers run with 7 fingers. Touched Three Chopt 4x. Went slow. 7 mi. Legs are now tired. Spent mental energy while running trying to think about how to write a creative backblast. Failed!

  • Lighted Runway on Iris

Nine Spider Run regulars stiff-armed the brisk weather for a solid Tuesday morning date with the pavement. Route was posted early so there were few questions.

    The Route

    https://onthegomap.com/s/3ruisnvl

    • Everyone do 1 lap around the track
    • 4s take a right out of the track on Maple back to York/Iris
    • 5s take a left on Maple, right on Patterson, then right on Seneca then back via Grove and Iris

Rather than run immediately up Gateway to get to Campus and Three Chopt, YHC decided on a slower burn up the hill. Seems like it worked as there was positive feedback around the group.
