  • There is a #2 App for That

A cool 11, that went one more, ventured out into the gloom. Paths around Ziontown, First Watch, and Westham Station were covered, rousing the tranquility of the bat cave trail.

The original Turkey Trot will be on Tuesday. See slack for details. Plan your start according to pace.

    OBT took us out.

  • Roll the dice – see what hill you get

When Splinter put out the bat signal that he wouldn’t be able to Q Spider Run, YHC knew it was time to shake things up (pun intended). Typical routes? Not today. YHC is always up for a little game of chance, and what better way to start the day than with some Dice Roll Hills?

Pre blast went out on Slack, but no routes were posted, just a promise of surprises. We gathered in the gloom, divided into two groups, walkers and runners, and the runners each grabbed a die from the bin before heading off toward the Hills.

    Here’s how it works:
At the base of the hill, six chalk lines are marked at different distances. Each pair rolls their die, runs to the line matching their roll, then heads back down to roll again. Repeat for 45 minutes.

    Pairs:

    • Anthrax & Shakedown
    • Sippy Cup, Marv & YHC

Next time you see Marv, ask him what his favorite number is, he’ll give you a great story!

    Announcements:
See EF Hutton for the Bridge this coming Saturday.

Keep our veterans in your thoughts on this special day.

  • Stellar Citizens

Ten guardians of the polls gathered for this week’s Spider Run. With no one on the Q sheet last night, YHC grabbed it and decided not to post a route. Partly to see if people thought intervals were coming and partly because I was lazy. Either way, we had 10, 9 on foot and 1 on wheels.

    The Route

    • Mount Henrico

Numbers, names, where one forgot his age, before YHC took us out.

    Announcements

    • Those not running the richmond races can join EF Hutton for a trip to the bridge on 11/15. See him for deetz

Well done fellas! Get ‘er done today!

    Splinter out.

  • Was that Oval Ohs?

Twelve accomplished gentlemen fought off the allure of a warm fartsack for today’s drizzling edition of Spider Run. Even though there were complaints offered on Slack last night, directions were spot on so off we went.

    The Route

    • 4s: Refuted impeccable instructions and went across the bridge and back
    • 5s: Up along the lake by the baseball field
    • Across the parking lot to College
    • Right on Campus
    • Left then hard left on West Bostwick to the parking lot and back
    • Up Bostwick proper back to Campus
    • Left then hard left on Old Mill to the end and back
    • Up Old Mill proper back to Campus
    • Cross Campus to Towana to Roselawn up to Campus
    • Back Roselawn to a left on Ridgeway
    • Left on Fairway and left on Tapoan to Three Chopt
    • 6s added a little more
    • Everyone else BTTVSF

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

    Moleskine

After a few weeks of flatter routes, YHC was feeling spicy. With no one on the Q sheet after coming home from volleyball last night, YHC conjured up a perfect route for this morning.

Lots of great mumblechatter amongst the 5s group. A particular highlight was Bodo’s recollection of his most recent concert, The Oh Hellos. Everyone else heard the Oval Ohs, which was close but not accurate. Either way, worth a listen!

    Have a great day everyone!

    Splinter out.

  • Ode To Our Furry Friends

A formidable 15 arrived to run/bike/walk. Out and back routes were administered with surprisingly no questions nor complaints…which YHC is prone to do.

Please support Faceplant in his (infant) diaper drive, and you’ll be helping families with limited means to afford such necessities. He is also accepting monetary contributions…

  • The Owl

Fifteen runners and walkers departed into the cool fall mist – seeking hills to cover and darkness to overcome. According to the four deer in the woods and the vocal owl in the tree canopy, all routes were covered with success, camaraderie, and conversation.

    YHC took us out.

  • No Dessert

With Splinter downrange, Saab on the mend, and Lockjaw parts unknown, someone had to step up.  Here’s the last second plan:

    • Out the Batcave
    • Take Westham Station to S Ridge
    • 4s – Hit River and Reverso
    • 5s – River and Reverso, plus Highland or Old Bridge
    • 6s – River and Reverso, Old Bridge and Highland, and Panorama, plus something else
    • Back to SF

    MOLESKIN

Hey, at least it wasn’t over the Huguenot Bridge or GROOOVVVE.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    • The Bridge – see Slack, Bootleg taking a team on 10/25
    • Welcome Sorbet, new to town from Omaha by way of Charlotte – have some dessert
  • Morning Miles at St. Christopher’s Track

We had a solid turnout this morning with twelve men hitting the pavement for the spider run. Runners tackled different distances:

The 4-mile crew completed 3 laps around the track, while those pushing for 5 miles logged 7 laps. Our distance seekers went the full 6 miles with 11 laps under their belts.

    Important Reminder

Time is running out! We have just two days left to support our brothers in Kenya. We’re still accepting donations of shoes, socks, or cash. If you’ve been meaning to contribute, now’s the time to make it happen.

  • Quartile of Seasons?

Twelve spiderlings found our secret lair and took on today’s navigational challenge. Even the one cherry popper managed to find his way back today. After EF Hutton aggressively repeated himself to week 2 cherry popper Noodles, YHC offered disjointed directions before off we went.

    The Route

    Countryside lollipops.

    4s: https://onthegomap.com/s/4osd9kdk
    5s: https://onthegomap.com/s/knmuauuv
    6s: https://onthegomap.com/s/6odnu0hj

Numbers, names, announcements before YHC took us out.

    Announcements

    • CSAUP this Friday, the non-frozen triangle with rucking involved. See slack for details.

Under normal circumstances, YHC tries to avoid the driveway trail over to Roslyn Hills Park except for the summer months where there is ample light. Luckily, plenty of man-made light was available today and no one succumbed to the roots on the trail. What happened after the trail, event though it should have been the easiest part, was more confusing. Oh well, we all made it back.

After doubling back on Countryside to ensure the rest of the 5s knew what they were doing, YHC and Spine joined the 5s mid-conversation. A question was asked if we always do the same route. Not a chance, and according to Upchuck, we don’t repeat in the same moon cycle or quartile of the seasons. Sounds good Upchuck.

We are currently in prime running weather so come out and join us. As we say at Spider Run, no where to go but up.

    Splinter out.

  • Kicking Frogs

Four spiderlings waiting as long as possible to disembark from their chariots to hear the concise but clear instructions. 2 launched early (for some reason). Off we went for something like this:

    The Route

    • Batcave to shopping center to westham station
    • West on westham station, north on south ridge to the light and turn around
    • 4s return
    • 5s hit Highland and Old Bridge on the way back for 5.3 total.

Numbers, names, quick COT to keep the rain off the backs of our necks.

    Moleskine

Small group today. YHC expected it with a thousand servings of Gumbo happening at NoToll. Plus the weather was a good deterrent.

Water was pooling today. No matter where we stepped it was there. Sippy kicked a frog mid-hop somehow and YHC barely missed the landing. Lucky for that frog today.

Great to see Noodles out again. The Kotter committed to Bodo’s and didn’t let the weather scare him away. Come back again. Normally it’s dry at the bottom of the mountain.

    Splinter out.
