  • Wordle, Turdle, or Squirdle?

Eleven trust wary Spiderlings gathered under the steam for today’s iteration of fun with hills. YHC apparently waited too long to give instructions which resulted in a 5:31 launch. Good thing TYA wasn’t there.

    The Route

    • Left out of the parking lot and right up towards the football stadium
    • Left on Campus, straight through the path and left on Wheeler
    • 4s right on Ridge Top and right on Chandler
    • 5s right on Horsepen, right on Patterson, right on Ridge Top and left on Chandler
    • 6s left on Hampshire to Baldwin, right on Westham, right on Patterson, right on Ridge Top and left on Chandler
    • Everyone up Chandler and through the path to Bandy
    • Left on Three Chopt, right on Kensington
    • Kensington DEAD ENDS!!! Trust me, it does. 6 milers confirmed.
    • Veer right at the dead end and follow Stuart back to a left on Honaker
    • Honaker to Boatwright
    • Left on Campus, right on UR drive, back to the VSF

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out before Hitch came stumbling in after making friends with a custodian.

Boy, you guys really didn’t trust me. Apparently the 4s and 5s didn’t think Kensington ever ended. 5s really didn’t trust me and turned right off of Kensington onto Honaker. 4s almost trusted me but came up short on Chanticleer. Faceplace was in full on trust mode and followed YHC all the way to the end. Trust fall exercise may be interesting with this bunch.

Sounds like there were ample reports of too much mexican, chili, or loaded baked potatoes last night, resulting in a few of the pax finding their own path through Bandy. Blame it on the dog I suppose.

Congrats to Faceplant who somehow picked St Peters over Kentucky but didn’t stick with them to the Sweet Sixteen.

Best of luck to everyone out there, whether it’s brackets, driving an 80s Volvo, or running the Grand Canyon.

    Splinter out.

  • Celestial Light

An extremely lucky 13 feared not the Ides of March. According to the kids in the kiddie pool on Patterson, here is the route.

Up the hill to the main entrance and take a right up to Three Chopt. It’s always fun starting straight up hill. Take a right on the access road.

4s take a left on St Chris. 5s/6s take a left on Grove and then Granite and Lexington respectively. Everyone takes their cut through street to Patterson and then take a left. Head west to Honaker and another left to pick up Boatwright and descend snake hill.

Past the Robins center, across the parking lot and down to the lake for a lap, before finishing at the AO.

As always, Marv takes us out with inspiration and style.

    MOLESKIN

For a dude with a reputation for not talking, YHC’s directions tend to be long, drawn out, and complicated.  Today’s route was YHC’s best attempt at a simple route not called Grooooove or Over the Bridge.  Seems the mission was accomplished.  Next time we’ll see if we can break the record for most turns.  If Shake tries to make out with you today, don’t let him.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Bone Thugs is planning a Tax Day Trot on April 15th – route from Mary to the Huguenot Bridge with various methods of return, approximately 8 miles.  More details to follow.  Sadly, for those of us in the Biz, tax day lingers on until Monday the 18th.

  • The road less traveled

Never one to shy away from uncharted roads and complex directions, YHC laid out a new route with plenty of hills. New roads were explored and all returned to the AO.

    Marv took us out.

  • Don’t Mind the Gas, It’s Simply Water Vapor

Seventeen All-Americans emerged from their vehicles early to enjoy this morning’s pre-spring 59 degree treat. Shiplap even donned short sleeves today, you know it’s going to be a good day. Huddle up for directions which included heavy routes for all three charters:

    The Route

    • West around the lake and through the woods, being careful over the gravel path
    • Left on College, Right on University
    • Continue on University, crossing Westham and Ridge before turning left on Ralston
    • Right on River, Right on E Glenbrooke Circle
    • Left on W Glenbrooke Circle
    • Everyone takes a right on Summit
    • 4s traverse summit one time then return the way we came
    • 5s traverse summit two times then take a right and complete the Glenbrooke Circle loop before returning via River
    • 6s traverse summit three times, right on Glenbrooke, left on Hillaire, left on Shadow, right on Twin Lake, right on Twin Lake (again), then left on Glenbrook to complete the circle and return via River

A teaser was dropped on Slack yesterday that routes would be a little heavy, so be prepared. Routes were heavy, but maybe not to the degree disclosed. Either way, it was intended that we take a little longer today. YHC has gotten into a stale habit of running the same mileage on every run. Sometimes even adding half a mile makes me feel it that much more. Just trying to mix it up a little instead of 4s, 5s, and 6s every week.

EF Hutton made a point to call out how much his ass hurt after yesterday’s pounding at Hoedown. Gotta get those glutes activated on a regular basis.

Prayers today were not only for those around us but those living in extreme uncertainty in Eastern Europe. While it may seem half a world away, we should always try to do what we can to eliminate preventable casualties. That’s YHCs geopolitical statement of the day. God bless.

  • Birthday Dice Surprise

Last attempt at this was washed out by a freak rain storm but YHC planned well this time and asked the rain gods to not wash away the chalk markings. It went down like this, PAX pairs up with a runner of similar abilities. Each duo gets a dice, and we moseyed to the bottom of a nearby hill. YHC had marked out six chalk lines of varying distances up the hills. Each duo rolls their dice, sees the number on the dice and then proceeds to run up the hill to said rolled number – and repeato until time is called.

YHC left a birthday surprise at dice roll number six with one burpee. Bodos and Swiper had the most fun and were the most excited for the hill dice roll workout. Don’t worry guys this one will be back!

followed by coffee and donuts for YHC’s birthday. Thank you to everyone who joined in the festivities!

    MOLESKIN

Make it hard and the PAX will like it, YHC repeated to himself while cursing the trek up Horsepen.  The directions seemed complex, but it was really just a loop, perhaps the delivery needs work.  Post run mumblechatter focused on the neutrality and general likeability of JMU compared to UVA.  Apparently Dentists have HGTV on in their waiting rooms because it is the most neutral and calming channel on TV.  Nonsense, paint colors get YHC fired up just in time to get poked and prodded and further annoyed.  And HGTV has turned many a neighbor to foe.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

With all distances heading south on Pepper, take Pepper to Three Chopt for a quick left and then right on Towana. Come back in on campus with 4s/6s taking the right wishbone and 5s taking the left.

  • The Rehearsal Dinner

Fifteen eager spiderlings huddled in the bowl behind the commons, wondering what the high pitched steam release was coming from the smoke stacks. Some stared as if they were looking at a shooting star, YHC declared enough and routes were shared. Across the bridge!!!

    • 6s continue on Riverside across Cherokee, up Rustic, left on Oakleaf, left on Elm, left on Hickory, cross Cherokee and continue back to the VSF

Numbers, names, slight delay to pray for Wilson before Bone Thugs joined us and YHC took us out.

Lovely morning for a run today. There still seems to be confusion as to east and west once we get to the river. How long have we been doing this, 5 years? Some people just won’t ever get it. At least those people are always prompt.

Title of the backblast comes from the discussion in YHCs group about rehearsal dinners and the appropriate level of roasting that is done by family and friends. Apparently YHCs family may take it a little too far. All in good fun.

    Announcements

    • Hitch is joining Corned Beef and DTH for a ramp build on 2/10. Still need 3 more to join.

    Enjoy the day!

  • Glitter on the Snow

The routes were simple in execution, complicated in explanation. Regardless, all made it back on time.

Off we went via the bat cave, watching for ice. Behind the shopping center and picking up Westham Station with a nice ascent up the hill. Left on Ross to pick up the Culpeper, Thom, Cameron loop to then tread across the First Watch AO to pick up Gaymont.

4s turned right on University to return to the flag. 5s and 6s turner left to take the Ziontown extension. 5s then picked up Lakewood to University and back home while 6s continued down Forest to take Rock Creek, Baldwin, Westham Pkwy to University.

Marv took us out in excellence.

Moleskin: While waiting for 530 to roll about, Splinter spotted green glitter in the snow. Discussion and debate followed with speculation as to its origins. Unicorns? An art project that went sideways? Fell off of one of the Pax member’s clothes after a night out? One may never know.
