    MOLESKIN

Several PAX from Hoedown were tortured with extreme 11s on Lindsay Ct yesterday, YHC included.  Splinter was 1 shy of completion, so YHC figured he should return.  Plus it sucks in a way only F3 men can appreciate.  Marv’s weather app promises cooler less humid mornings this week, but today was not that.  It was hot and extremely moist.  Saab bucked the route, presumably in search of dryer air.  At the risk of starting a mutiny, F3RVA’s resident Sensei has suggested that the PAX meet at the parking lot on the corner of UR Dr and Richmond Way to avoid speeding golf carts, trash trucks, buses, and Swan Goose sh*t.  Some say that’s Blasphemy.  Next week will decide it.

  • Betting on the Rain

Thirteen gambling men tried their luck at some hills this morning, some lost and some won. YHC bet on the weather cooperating, but a freak storm surprised YHC and washed away all the hard work done the night before in preparing the hill routes and marking them out with chalk. YHC adapted, improvised and overcame and the PAX willingly followed along.

It went down like this, PAX met at the typical spot, YHC then asked everyone to pair up with someone of similar running abilities. Sabb lost a bet and got stuck with YHC. YHC had Q energy and couldn’t sleep the night before and was ready to run – sorry Sabbskie. After everyone paired up, YHC handed each team their very own dice. Moseyed on over to the bottom of Ridgeway Rd. each team rolls the dice and depending on the number it corresponded to a pre-determined (and washed away) number somewhere on the hill.

Roll a 2 – short run to the big puddle that YHC pointed out (shortest hill)

Roll a 1 – run to the top of Ridgeway with the Y intersection (medium hill)

Roll a 3 or 4 – run almost all the way up Ridgeway to the dogleg left (worst and steepest hill)

Roll a 5 or 6 – take the right fork off Ridgeway on up to Fairway View Rd T-intersection. (long hill, but less steep)

Everyone runs back down then roll the dice again to find out the next hill to run. Repeat-o until time is up. The audience poll had everyone doing around 3-4 miles.

Numbers and Names, then YHC took it out. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and prayers. YHC’s Mom successfully made it to the other side of surgery this afternoon and is happily eating hospital food and watching HGTV.

    See you in the gloom!

  • Lovin the McNubbin

    Lovin the McNubbin

Twenty superbad dudes posted to Spider Run looking to score. With rumors of a house party back in the hills, they hatched a plan and off they went:

4s – UofR Drive to River Road Shopping Center; up Kanawha and back, up Panorama and back, up Highland then up and down the East Highland McNubbin and back to the flag vis River Road Shopping Center and UofR Drive.

5s – same as 4s but skip the McNubbin and go up Old Ridge, up Highland again to River and back to the flag via UofR Drive. See slide 3 of the PowerPoint

6s – same as 5s, but after Old Ridge, back down to Westham Station and take Ridge around to Westham Parkway, then back to the flag via University and past the baseball fields. Or whatever your 6 Mile Spidey Sense tells you to do…

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

NMMS – Way to work on those hills, gents. It was great to see EF Hutton getting after it. Welcome back Sippy Cup and Jack Sparrow.

    Make it a great one!

  • A Couple of Fingers Down Butte

A Couple of Fingers Down Butte

Seventeen of Tuesday’s finest gathered on a near perfect morning for some fun on the southside. One FNG was late so missed launch and wandered for 40 minutes before finding some of the PAX to finish. FNG made 18 total. For Dr. Ruth, here’s what really happened:

    The Route
    4s / 5s / 6s
    – Through the bat cave and across the river
    – Take the loop and turn left (west, upriver, LEFT)
    – Left on Southhampton heading south

    4s
    – Turn around at the first intersection and return the way you came

    5s
    – Continue south on Southhampton, through the 5 way intersection to Cherokee
    – Reverse course and head north on Southhampton
    – At the first intersection, take the left fork on to Butte
    – Right on Riverside and return via the bridge

    6s
    – Follow the 5s on the left on Butte then a left on Rivercrest
    – Left on Riverside
    – Left on Waumsetta and meander up to Cherokee
    – Return via Waumsetta and Riverside to the bridge and back

Numbers, names, announcements and YHC took us out.

    Moleskin
Absolute perfect day for a run this morning. When EF Hutton showed up, we knew the world was in balance.

Apologies to the FNG for launching on time. However, one minute late is one minute late… I’m sure that won’t prevent you from making a repeat appearance.

Lots of great mumblechatter about bachelor parties and the appropriate pronunciation of Butte. Those, combined with Saab’s comment about a 5 finger version on the southside led to today’s backblast title.

Enjoy the day gentlemen and thanks for letting me lead.

    Splinter

  • Splinter Mountain (w/Patti)

The Monday rain paved the way for a clean and pollen free jaunt around the hills of the Tuckahoe/Tuckahoe/Freeman district. After a couple of relatively flat Q’s the past couple of weeks at Spider Run, YHC decided to add some of the vaunted undulations of this part of the River City.

While we have conquered Mt. Henrico a fair amount of times, I’m not sure we’ve ever hit the peak of Splinter Mountain (around 1 miles south of Mt. Henrico).

Named Splinter Mountain because the 6s run by the domicile of Splinter…here’s The Thang…

Head to the baseball field…go North and then to the parking lot. Get out to College Rd and head South.

Take a right on University Ave and take that all the way up to Ralston. Right on Ralston, Left on University Drive.

From there University Drive turns into a driveway and leads to someone’s house…but also a trail. Knock on the door…Patti will provide coffee and words of encouragement.

Take the Trail down the hill into the scenic Countryside neighborhood.

4s…get to the bottom of the hill and return the way you came…until you get to Westham. Left on Westham. Right on Lakewood. Lakewood to College, back by the baseball field and back to the flag.

5s…get to the bottom of the hill and take a Right on Roslyn Hills. That goes to the top of a hill and you go left on Mellwood. Mellwood to Roslyn Hills…Roslyn Hills to the trail…past Patti’s house to Westham. Left on Westham, right on Beechwood…to Wood…to Lakewood and back in.

6s….get to the bottom of the hill and take a right on Roslyn Hills. That turns into Countryside. Take a right on Ruggles and RUN BY SPLINTER’s HOUSE…thus, to the top of Splinter Mountain. Turnaround at the end and head back Ruggles to Roslyn Hills. Left on Roslyn Hills, back up the trail, say hi to Patti, then back the way we came in.

The 6s got a bit sideways as YHC took a pretty decent spill right after seeing Patti the first time. A female walker was coming up the hill and YHC pretty much just bit it right in front of her, rolling an ankle pretty badly. The walker really didn’t break stride despite someone biting it right in front of her. To her credit, I bet it scared the fool out of her.

It was fun to Q again…hopefully the swelling will go down.

    Y’all have a great day.

  • Sippy Cups and Adirondacks

    Sippy Cups and Adirondacks

Eleven of this area’s finest gentlemen gathered in the near daylight to howl at the supermoon. A mysterious waist lamp bounced in the distance and when he arrived, off the PAX went for:

    The Route
    – Traverse by the ball field, left on College, right on Lakewood
    – 4s take a right on Wood
    – 5s take a right on Old Oak then right on Beachwood and left on Wood
    – 6s take a right on Westham, right on Hillsdale, left on Old Oak, right on Beachwood
    – Everyone take a right on Baldwin and meander up Horsepen and convene at Waveny

Intervals were next, and no shit, everyone was excited about them today. By my watch, it had been since November we iteratively tackled these near west end hills. Three times up Waveny, 1 minute up, 1:45 down. 80% or so for those tracking.

Short jaunt up Horsepen, stopping at Shrewsbury. One interval of 100% up to the next intersection, waving at Toga’s former abode.

Left on Ridge Top for a slow saunter to the base of Chandler. Three times up Chandler at 80%, with the final iteration taking a hard right up Gardiner.

Everyone wandered back to the flag via the well lit path and Campus drive.

Huddle up for names, numbers, golf wave to Keymaster before YHC took us out.

    Moleskin
Not that anyone is counting; however, today’s attendance was likely outside one standard deviation from the Spider Run recent mean. Full appreciation to the eleven that shook off the fear of the Splinterval Sack and posted for this most recent variation.

If there is a single F3 workout YHC tries not to miss, this is the one. Thanks to all who post and lead for making this one of my highlights of the week.

    Go rest Gomer. Splinter out.

  • Copy Cat Route

YHC spent time last night working on a custom 4.5 mile route that could be downloaded by the PAX. I could not get this to work and realized quickly that trying to explain the route would be futile. So remembering the recent run(Lockjaw Shout out) across the Huguenot Bridge to Riverside Drive and running East towards Pony Pasture…downstream. I started to explain this route and Shakedown smartly pointed out that we turn around at the 1/2 way point for each distance of 4, 5 or 6 miles respectively.

This route shows the 5 mile route, the 6 milers kept going towards Pony Pasture and then returned. Four milers turned earlier and returned to start area. We left out of the UR entrance to River Road and returned to the start via the Bat Cave route.

Beautiful morning for a run, cool and misty along the river with the sunrise made for an awesome workout.

    COT

We circle up stretching and waiting for the longer distance runners. Once they arrived we Numberama, namerama, announcements and YHC took us out in prayer.

Announcements – BRR – please get your application fees to TYA asap as he has applied and paid for the F3RVA team to participate. Tomato Run this Saturday in DaVille. Contact Spit if interested in participating…or coming by to run a leg. You can swing by for some 2nd F too.

Prayer Requests – Boberry’s father is undergoing surgery today, EF Hutton a speedy recovery from his recent accident with a grease fire, Double Mint on the recent loss of his sister.

    Moleskin

Announcements – YHC had his FNG – Josh Hodges aka F3 name (now confirmed) Peel and Stick join the PAX for a run this morning to see a more fully involved F3 attendance vs 3 at DogPile (Double Mint and Corned Beef) earlier this winter during an ice storm. We were able to run together this morning and see alot of the Pax similar to the YoYo run on the Friday Ramm run.

Keep Crushing it brothers as it was an honor to lead this morning, SYITG…CB
