  • Recon!

12 thoroughbred troopers gathered for a one way trip, out and back up Mount Henrico.

    • 4mi – lakeview around Robins Center. Lakewood, Wood, Baldwin, Rock Creek, Forest, University, and turnaround
    • 5mi- 4 mi + Turnaround at Sharon.
    • 6mi- 5mi + right on Henrico. Turnaround at Ridge.

    NMS

This is the Troop Leading Procedure – a simple list to remember all the steps needed to lead a mission for 10 or 10000.

    • Receive the mission
    • Issue a warning order
    • Make a tentative plan
    • Start necessary movements
    • Reconnaissance
    • Complete the plan
    • Issue the order
    • Supervise

The 5th step in the Troop Leading procedures is recon – the purpose is to confirm or deny what you perceived from mission analysis in step 3. FM 6-22 Leader Development defines Reconnaissance like this:

10-34. Whenever time and circumstances allow, or as directed by higher headquarters, leaders personally observe the area of operations for the mission prior to execution. No amount of information from higher headquarters can substitute for firsthand assessment of the mission variables from within the area of operations. Unfortunately, many factors can keep leaders from performing a personal reconnaissance. The minimum action necessary is a thorough map reconnaissance supplemented by imagery and intelligence products. As directed, subordinates or other elements (such as scouts) may conduct reconnaissance while the leader completes other TLP steps. https://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/DR_pubs/DR_a/pdf/web/fm6_22.pdf

YHC completed a map recon, but like the man says: there is no substitute from eyes on the objective. Imagine our surprise today when we ran around to the north end of the Robin center and everything was blocked off for construction. Options are go back (uh, no), go around, or through the maze (of course – thats what they wont expect). Things were going well at the first fence, then another fence was dropped, so hopes were high for the final fence – a seven foot chain link monster. Zip ties. No gaps. Nothing loose. Over we go. Bodos went over using a pile of sheetrock. YHC found some blocks. We overcame. But not the way we wanted to start the run.

Like Saab said the construction wasn’t like that the last time we were in there. What would F3 be without a little excitement here and there.

  • Spider-D: Post-Blast

A handful or more of men did their homework and followed the pre-announced route…employing various start and end times. For once, YHC had few questions and mis-directions, and smart-assery was limited to the associated pre-blast.

    Routes:

    Announcements:

    Swirly: Needs a haircut

EF Hutton: Needs a better haircut

Gomer Pyle: April 24 – Inaugural Deep Run Park Friday run…see aforementioned for details

TYA: He and Olivander are planning an inaugural Quarantine 50 miler from W-Burg to Richmond on the capital trail in the coming weeks. See one of these two lunatics for details.

  • Social-D: Spider Edition

A lucky number of gents took various start times and routes so as to keep numbers to a minimum and social distances to a maximum. Props to those who bothered to read the pre-blast and choose their own schedule for completing one of three routes (TYA was not one of them).

Announcements: Gomer will be starting a Friday run AO near Deep Run. As to WHEN this will begin?….Please reach out to Gomer Pyle.

The routes (as posted in the PRE-BLAST) were as follows…although not everyone (TYA) followed them:

    5 Mile:

  • A Hive With No Queen

A totally legal 10 spiders escaped the web to run. With no Q on the sheet, TYA made the call for Grove before any other Spiders could dissent. Gateway-Campus-Towana-Grove out 23, back 22.

  • Pre-Blast: Spider Run Route

In the interest of providing persons the option of running early or late so as to avoid as much human contact as possible I am posting the routes for tomorrow’s run. Take note these are based on a route YHC has administered before, but REVERSO.

    4 Mile:

    5 Mile:

  • I’ll Choose Option “B”

5 Gentlemen, in 3 groups, took a respite from their sequester and ran varying distances from the UR commons. Social Distancing was the standard, as were louder than usual voices.

YHC had few words to offer given his quarantine-funk, so Bodos took us out with some inspirational words.

  • Shut the F Up and Run

11 braved the pandemic and exceeded the capacity for group settings to run it out.

All PAX take the bat cave across the bridge and head west/upstream/to the right. Out in 22 minutes, back in 23.

Felt like a holiday with everyone milling about afterwards. Apparently people are not eager to head back to the house for quarantine (cough Saab cough). Solid run folks, basically the flattest you can get out of Spider Run per Swirl, perhaps that’s why YHC claims it a few times a year. Thanks to Bleeder for the title, making reference to the shirt Saab should don at all running events.

Congrats to the Belmonte folks! To the wee bit of Irish in all of us, Happy Saint Paddy’s Day! Pints on me!

  • “This is Pleasant”

Fourteen men and a canine hit the Tuckahoe region this morning in sublime running conditions. It is hard to beat 56 in early March.

    The Thang;

We gave the bat cave a try today and it was glorious. Other than a possible twisted ankle. Seriously, it is going instantly become a favorite way to leave the depths of the UofR. Everyone took the Batcave out to Huguenot.

From there, Huguenot to Westham Station all the way up to Westham. Cross River and enter into the idyllic Westham community.

4s hang a right on Baldwin. Right on Wood. Left on Lakeside and then by the baseball field and back to the flag.

5s hang a left on Baldwin, right on Rock Creek, which truly never stops going uphill. Right on Woodberry (after a detour to Patterson for some 5s). Woodberry to Horsepen. The Pen all the way down to the fraternities. Get back on college and through the parking lot and back to the flag.

6s hang that same Baldwin left…stop at 705 to pick up Onions…and then to Hollins. Hollins to Woodberry, Woodberry to Horsepen. Horsepen is quick…as you take a left on Devon. That’s pretty quick too…you make your next right on RidgeTop. RidgeTop to Mighty Chandler…all the way up Chandler and then back down to Gardiner.

Gardiner takes ya around to the cut through, lighted, path to end on Boatright. Theoretically, you hang a right on Boatright and run to Three Chopt then back down, through the parking lot and back to the flag. If you pause to get a dog, you run College Ave, to Campus to Gateway to Richmond Way and back to the flag as you have made yourself short on time.

Great to see Rosie on this side of the river this morning…it’s always fun running with him.

Weather permitting, looking to 2.0 at the end of the month.

Prayer request for Splinter’s dad who is having his eye examined this week as well as his heart.

Pull for the Rams this week in Brooklyn, boys.

  • Insert Title Here

Phenomenal morning for a run this morning. Pre/post run mumblechatter was at an all-time high. So high that YHC couldn’t decide on an appropriate backblast title. Therefore, I have listed a few suggestions below. Rather than comment on the backblast (which no one will do anyway), offer an alternative title. It’s like a haiku without the haiku!

    Posh Finds His Way Home
    Hitchhiking on the Snowbank
    Sufferin’ Succotash
    This Run Sucks
I’m Bored So I Guess I’ll Go Vote
    Marv Wins a Bet
I Said the Long Way Around the Lake

    Announcement
HDHH the 18th which is a day before the 19th. Just sayin.

    Splinter says sayonara!
