Five posted on this Thursday to the Tomato Run. The 3 ruckers found there way around Rutland and possibly Cool Spring Forest. The 2 runners decided to go to a location that only Speakeasy had led before. They ran down Rutlandshire and then crossed 301 and discovered a small trail behind Auto Zone that led to Rutland Road. They stayed on Rutland Road and eventually ran through Atlee Springs. They then crossed Atlee Road and ran a loop in the neighborhood. They then returned along the same roads for 4.5 miles.

NMS:

A few years ago, Speakeasy showed the runners this small trail that led us to the neighborhoods on the other side of 301. It took this long before I decided to explore more of this area. Now that BAM! and I tried it, I believe we will take more runs in that area. We also might explore other areas including Blue Star Estates.

2 runners and 3 ruckers posted on a cooler than usual morning.

Runners did their thing. Ruckers did the Starbucks, Kroger loop and found Yardsale wandering back to the flag.

Numbers, names, No Idea took us out.

Four posted on this Thursday in Rutland to run and ruck. One runner joined the lone rucker, so that left groups of 2 to run and ruck. The runners ran past Starbucks then around Atlee to Taylor Farm and back for 4.8 miles.

NMS:

It was hot and humid this morning. YHC felt that BAM! and YHC would have probably gone up to 30 seconds faster per mile if it was mid October weather.

During the COT, it was mentioned how directions with some of the ruckers upon their return to the VSF can be challenging. Sometimes, GPS is needed. That’s how I feel when I post at RAMM. I’ve been going there for 10 years but still need constant directions as to where I am going. I guess that is how it is for some of the ruckers.

Eleven ruckers and runners, some travelling north and south, converged in the parking lot of the Rutland clubhouse for a little exercise on this Thursday morning. The 6 ruckers rucked somewhere. The 5 runners took the traditional route into Cool Spring Forest, Knollwood, and the small and big loops in Cool Spring West. Upon returning to the AO, they were at about 4.9 miles. This route was close but slightly different from the 3 routes that YHC had posted on Slack the previous night.

NMS:

It was great having a large group of ruckers and runners out this morning even with several of the regular ruckers on vacation. With all of them in attendance, we could have been close to 15.

Great having Shinnecock from F3 Blue Ridge join us today. We discussed his time as a student in Prince Edward Island along with running and other topics.

This is also the last time that Hash will join us for at least several years. He will be off to Germany with the Air Force on Monday. Hope all goes well with you. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.

While YHC was running with his daughter on Sunday in the city, he observed how no passing runners or walkers were making eye contact with those passing and not saying “good morning”, “hello” or anything. YHC grew up in this area. One thing he always enjoyed about it was Richmonders greeted strangers. It’s clear that something has changed. YHC does understand that Sunday it was hot and humid. People might have been focusing on their run, had noise counseling headphones, and other excuses. YHC did greet others going by and hopes it spreads.

Five posted on this perfect, smoky, and humid morning in Rutland to mostly ruck but run as well. As the one runner discovered that he had lost yet another runner to the rucking group, he took off on mostly the traditional Rutland/Cool Spring/Knollwood loop. The ruckers rucked around Rutland and possibly surrounding neighborhoods.

NMS: When YHC was young, tennis courts were often filled as many took to the courts after work. Today, the pickleball courts are filled with only a few playing tennis. That seems to have happened as well in DaVille with running. Our running numbers used to be larger, but many former runners have now joined the ruckers.

YHC almost feels bad for the local meteorologists. They were forecasting highs of 98 – 100 over the next few days, but with the Canadian wildfires, it did not get as hot as they expected.

Spain or Argentina? Pick your team now. Its all decided on Sunday. There is also a 3rd place game on Saturday. Does English and France even want to play in that game?

5 ruckers and 1 runner posted today. Bam the sole runner did his thing. The ruckers took the Rutland trail to do the Wongs Tacos, Kroger loop.

Numbers, names, Bam took us out.

Five DaVillians came out for the sunny and 70 degree morning to ruck and run. The 3 ruckers rucked 2.6 miles around Rutland. The 2 runners took the traditional route of Rutland to Cool Spring Forest to Knollwood, to Cool Spring West and back to the AO. YHC stopped his watch as he was finished and noticed 4.98 miles on the watch.

NMS:

It was a great morning to run regardless of the fact that we were sweating before we took the first step. BAM! reported during the run that there is now a Drunk History Club in Richmond that was created by teenagers. YHC is certain that many of the great stories that are told at gatherings were first reported by drunk historians.

How often do you go slightly out of your way in order to end up exactly at a mileage mark? YHC doesn’t remember coming so close to a mileage mark and stopping. In some ways, its liberating not worrying about an exact distance. Just run/walk/bike and end where you want to instead of what the watch says. Try it.

The weather continues to be amazing this week as we came out to ruck and run to celebrate Wild Thing’s 70th birthday. Eight posted to Rutland on this morning as the 3 runners and 5 ruckers went out into the community.

Opus, BAM!, and YHC decided to take the traditional Rutland/Cool Spring Forest/Cool Spring North up and back route. Maybe 1/4 mile in, YHC noticed a man and woman walking towards them. YHC then recognized the older man who pointed at YHC and said “I need you.” Although YHC does not believe the man has ever posted to F3, for the sake of this story, he will be known as “Tree Man” which is a nickname that he has been known by to many local high school track and cross country runners. When someone says at 5:35 AM “I need you”, what goes through your mind. As it turns out, he needed help with an event he was in charge of and it included YHC taking a day off of work. YHC now knows if he will accept the offer and will let him know the decision the next time the runners happen to pass the Tree Man and his wife.

Once YHC caught up to the runners, the conversation turned to local weather personality. YHC ran a little over 4 miles. Opus and BAM! went a little further while YHC was in conversation.

Three Davillians met up at the Rutland Clubhouse before the one rucker and two runners departed. The question was: Dunkin or Bojangles? Along the 5.25 mile course that the runners ran, they only passed the rucker in one location, Bojangles. We will see next time if the same thing occurs.
