  • To Twin Team or Not to TT

7 runners, 3 walkers, and a canine pal arrived at Starbucks to greet the gloom. Storms cooled things off but also left some destruction and damage across Salisbury in their wake. The runners’ 9+mile route was past Draper’s, past DK’s, to the top of Twin Team, descent/climb optional, back past the coldest water fountain in SOJ and back to the start. Sunday slowday rules had to be reiterated to Rosetta and Annie trying to set a brisk pace. Great to have Rosetta and Hardywood back out, 2 guys who can step in and hit 9+ miles whenever they want. Walkers may or may not have done any walking outside of the Starbucks parking lot.

Couldn’t/wouldn’t have done this solo. prep for the Homegrown Half in full effect. Thanks for showing up and putting in the work gentlemen, it made those miles so much easier.

August 19 at Robious Landing Park, pick a half marathon or 10k option and come join in the fun. See Draper’s slack post for more info

  • A little Murphy Murph.

6 HIM’s made their way to Twin Team for the monthly Murph. DTH brought the tunes, jokes were made at Tobit’s expense, but strict form with natural weighted vests was on the menu at TT.

Each month that we do this, we all humbled by the originator of this event. What a beast.

We were all thankful for the gentle breeze, workout and time together.

    Boberry took us out.

  • It’s better with tunes

Another Murph Friday, another day of perfect form. Fresh meat showed up as State Farm ventured north to take on the challenge. DTH brought the music which was a new and welcome addition to the Murph, somehow it made things go faster. Glad to get out of there before the sun starts cooking today.

    Stay cool brothers.

  • Not Really Sure What To Do

A double digit turn out converged onto Betty Weaver to experience the heat and humidity of a fine summer SOJ day. Todays PAX was made up of some Twin Team regulars, not so regulars, summer tourists and newbies. Kettlebells was the primitive plan but with Twin Team virgin in the group, an audible was called for. Here is how I remember things going down.

Everyone pull out your weighted handleballs or light blocks and stash them in a group to be played with later. Short mosey to the base of Twin Team Hill for introductions, disclaimers and warm ups that consisted of SSH’s, Helis, DQ’s, Dead Man Hang, Heels to Heaven, Freddie Mercuries and Dying Cockroaches.

With everyone primed and ready, lets get up the hill. 5 merkins at each driveway on the way up. 5 squats on the way down. Toto enjoyed the modern amenities such as sidewalks and pavement that may or may not have been there during his earlier years. Heartrate up so lets get back to Betty Weaver, picking up McRib along the way.

Circuit work with Kettlebells. 10 stations with variety of exercises while timer runs the loop. Exercises included swings, curls, tricep trusts, lawnmowers and block press with Handshakes lego block. Other exercises were included but you had to be there to know. 2 rounds were completed.

Mosey to the blacktop at the rear of the school. Indigenous Peoples Chair against the building. 1 person bear crawls across the blacktop and runs to the end of the line. 2nd round, Bernie across and run back. Time was called so BTTVF.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayers. Toto took us out. Some decided another trip to Twin Team was needed, YHC was not one of them.

Announcements: CSAUP a plenty. Twin Team 1/2 marathon or 10k coming in August if you like running hills. See a rabbit for details (Draper/Rosie/Tobit).

Food Ruck across Salisbury and back in October. Some houses along the way could be rolled. See Orange Crush, Doublemint for details.

Oyster Paying – Thursday lunch at Rusty Taco.

Good luck to Hutton with the removal of a tree off his house.

NMS: YHC had no clue how to do a dedicated Kettlebell workout. Improvisation was the word of the day. Great turn out this morning with mumble chatter strong. Great to see Handshake and Hutton cross the river along with Toto’s 1st trip back to Twin Team since his adolescent years. Doublemint has been cleared for full contact and is coming after the Pickleball crown. Thank you fellas for showing up. Enjoy the weekend.

  • One Large Wet Loop

3 SOJ regulars, 1 soon to be regular, and YHC met the rainy morning at Twin Team for a few hills and miles. The loop was the shortened OG RiverRun loop of James River Road, into Tarrington and down Twin Team for a total of 3 miles. Stopped 6 times along the way for a variety of exercises including Hand release merkins, SSH, flutter kicks, crab cakes, dancing bears, among others.

Mumble chatter on YHC’s recent high profile jury case, the upcoming home grown half marathon at Twin Team, how old is too old for F3 (according to Pigskin, there is no limit).

Great job this morning, thanks for the company and letting me lead. Twin Team is an ever evolving AO from kettlebells in the winter to adding some miles now in prep for the half.

  • The Monthly Murph

4 freaking studs showed up to Twin Team for the Murph. We had hoped for 6 (you know who you are!), but we launched at 530am sharp. 1 mile out – 100 Muscle Ups – 200 Perfect form Merkins (no chicken pecking for these studs) – 300 Perfect form Squats (Straight back, drop that butt until parallel with the knees) – 1 mile back. A quick ring of fire for some ab work and time was called.

    YHC took us out.

Great to have Senior Frog join us today and the opportunity to learn more about him and his life. Hope he makes the trip back to TT in the near future.

  • Swampy Sausage Party

Four Strong Redwoods ended SOJ takeover week on a high. The return of NTB from his inaugural appearance at No Toll was a pleasant surprise. According to the stadium security camera footage, the following items occurred and will be recorded in the annals of history.

Short mosey to the grassy knoll by the bus loop for standard disclaimer and warmups that included Invisible Jumprope, Jazzercise, Helis, Merkins, LBC’s and Freddie Mercurys. YHC miserably at recreating the Twin Team original Texas Tornado Titty Twister. Intent was there, execution was quite poor, will try to coordinate with Rosie to determine the details of this 12 count exercise. Onward we go

    COP 1: 4 corners at the blacktop – 10 Merkins, 20 WWII’s, 30 squats, 40 Monkey Humpers.

Mosey down to the Swamp and onto the Stadium Bleachers.

COP 2: DORA: Partner Up for 100 Elevated Merkins, 200 Dips, 300 Squats. Timer runs up and around the bleachers. Daylight is key on this decent.

COP 3: Mosey down to the track for a quick lap. Stopping at each corner light pole where each PAX calls out an exercise. 20 reps of each. Burpees (for some reason), Broad Jumps, Lunges and APD’s were the selected exercises.

COP 4: Exit the stadium and back to parking lot for LOVE Field. Timer runs to the end of the parking lot and back. Partner bear crawls/duck walks, lunges and Broad Jump Burpees.

COP 5: Indigenous Pole Smokers: PAX grabs a pole and holds 6″ while end guy performs 5 pole smokers and leap frogs the others. Go to the end of the pole line.

BTTVF for 3 quick burpees, Names, Numbers, Announcements, Prayers. YHC took us out

NMS: Great way to finish SOJ takeover week. Good to see Chaplain at Twin Team after completing his World Tour with parachute in tow. Can’t wait to see this brought out at his next Q. Been a while since YHC has seen Greenbow. Always good mumble chatter before he heads out to India and now he is on the Q sheet for the Forge next week. Hope to see NTB after his initiation week. Great work by all.

Dodgeball is planned for No Toll next week followed by Gumbo’s Home Run Derby on June 27th. Dingers, Dingers Everywhere.

Happy Fathers Day weekend to all the boys at F3. Great brotherhood and really enjoy being a part of this group.

  • No Yacht Rock…Just a Swampy Beast

Four hit up BWES for this week’s installment of Twin Team. Here’s what went down…

Mosey to blacktop for COP: SSHs, IWs, DQs, Cherry Pickers, Merkins, LBCs, Flutter Kicks

Head to the jungle gym for a six pack:

1 pull up, 5 merkins; 2 pull ups, 4 merkins…up to 5 pull ups, 1 merkin and then back down

Mosey to the swamp for a beast: WWIIs, Ball Dippers, Merkins, Crunch Frogs, Lt. Dans, Burpees

Head over to JRHS for a quick Dora with 100 dips and 200 LBCs.

BTTF for 1.5 minutes of Mary (Hello Dollies and Rosalitas).

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayer Requests, YHC took us out.

Announcements: SOJ Takeover next week, Happy Hour tonight at Diamond Billiards (5:30ish—??)

Prayers for Draper and his stress levels. Prayers for injured PAX and those traveling.

NMS: What a beautiful morning to be out at Twin Team. How is it June 9 and only 56 degrees? TT is such a great AO…always more to explore than possible in 45 minutes. After two weeks of going down to the river, watching the sun rise, and listening to Yacht Rock, YHC decided to take the PAX to the swamp instead. Nothing like a good beast. Great to have Escobar out for his second time at TT…keep coming back!

During the Dora, a vehicle pulled up in the parking lot and started honking at the PAX. YHC immediately wondered who this Karen was. Were we running around their precious parking spot? Turns out the Karen was actually OC just stopping by to say hi before heading to the airport (and driving his Ms vehicle). The PAX appreciates the love OC.

    Enjoy your Friday gents!

  • There’s no such thing as too smooth

8 Captains and no Tenielles made their way to BWE last Friday. Rumor has it some yacht rock was in the forecast. Since that always sounds better by water, down we went to the banks of the mighty James. Once there the tunes were turned on and the smooth was turned up to 11. Here’s how it went down:

    5 burpees

    SSHs

    4 burpees

    Jazzercise

    3 burpees

    Copperhead squats

    2 burpees

    Hairy Rockettes

    1 burpee

More COP with some ab work

    The Merkin

    Pole smokers

    Squats

Runner goes down to the water and back

quick pic by the water, a few dips then.

Time to head back up hill to the flag. got some extra credit. Leave no man behind, and leave no man where you found him.
