  • Run, Arms & Abs, Repeato…

Three eager beavers crashed the BWES parking lot – 1 stir-crazy gentlemen in recovery mode out for a dark stroll, and 1 down for whatever concoction Gumbo had in store. Today, it was an off campus excursion that went a little something like this:

Grab a headlamp…you know what that means.

0530 bell rings and off we go toward the namesake hill. Stop in the cul de sac from a brief COT of DQs, Helicopters, Jazzercisers and Imperial Walkers to loosen up the back and legs. Round 1 of exercises – 21 merkins and 21 LBCs OYO, then, up the hill we go. I’ll call it a run, but YHC ended up more like a mosey. Stop at the top for round 2 – 21 merkins, 21 LBCs, 21 Alternating Shoulder Taps, 21 Flutter Kicks – OYO. Run on Twin Team out to Robious Road and across into Tarrington. Stop at the Gates of Tarrington for round 3 – 21 merkins, 21 LBCs, 21 ASTs, 21 FKs, 21 Carolina Dry Docks, 21 Freddie Mercuries. Run down Ashwell hill to the Tarrington Clubhouse for round 4 – 21 merkins, 21 LBCs, 21 ASTs, 21 FKs, 21 Carolina Dry Docks, 21 Freddie Mercuries, 21 Dips and 21 box cutters. Run around the block heading back toward JRHS – stop at both traffic circles for bonus rounds of 21 Merkins and 21 Mountain Climbers on the curb of the circles. Run to front office door of JRHS for round 5 – 21 merkins, 21 LBCs, 21 ASTs, 21 FKs, 21 Carolina Dry Docks, 21 Freddie Mercuries, 21 Dips and 21 box cutters, 21-count plan hold and 21 American Hammers. Run BTTF, right on time.

    COT, Numbers, Names, Prayer.

YHC forgot just how bad TT hill is. It sucks. YHC has been wanting to do this off-campus run/workout for a while and with just two of us I thought it was a good way to test out the timing. It was perfect. This will come back again, I promise.

The “21” count was in honor of YHC’s 21st wedding anniversary with my M yesterday. Can’t believe it. I have been married to this wonderful woman for half of my life. The big man upstairs was smiling on me when he convinced her to say yes!

Go forth and take your F3 energy and spirit into the day and spread it widely men. SYITG.

    No More Gumbo For You!

    NMS:

YHC got a text from Last Call at the wee hours of the morning “not going to make it” so YHC was counting on the possibility of seeing Bullseye or Chaplain this morning. YHC had a great surprise waiting for him in the parking lot with Gumbo already there and Rosie not far behind. YHC really had no plan for the beatdown but knew with these two studs even in recovery mode we could get some things done.

  • Solo Book End Q’s for the Week

YHC was solo at Rock and Roll this week and solo at Twin Team. YHC might have to take his monthly shower a little early this month just to get the PAX back out in numbers.

No COP this morning just mosey to the hill

Run Top to Bottom three times to match the number of ladies from Monday (see Rock and Roll BB)

    BTTF

1/Doozy/YHC will pray for you guys

    No NMS

  • Murph Graded on a Curve

A quartet of SOJ studs descended on Twin Team for a Last Call beatdown with the lunar calendar showing the last Friday of the month. Taking a page from Honeymoon, a Murph was called by the light of the moon. Here is how it went down:

Quick 1,600 meter mosey around James River High school to include 1 lap around the track and back up to Betty Weaver fields. Collect Bullseye along the way. Warmarama around the equipment that included arm circles and dead man hang followed by the Murph rountine. 10 pull ups, 20 merkins, 30 squats followed by a run across the field and back. Complete 10 rounds holding for the 6 after each round. Pull ups became more of an arm hang for YHC during the 1st round until completion, you vs. you.

Murph completed with time to spare, lets continue to work the shoulders with a curb crawl around the bus loop, indigenous people style. Caboose lunges to the front and repeato until time.

Names, Numbers, Announcements, YHC took us out

Announcements: Sip & See Retreat this weekend where Gumbo is primed to retain Corn Hole Crown. His M has found a special place in the home for the trophy to be displayed. T Claps to Bone Thugs with his incredible story and health improvement. See slack for his details.

NMS: Some mumble chatter this morning to include seeing long time acquaintances that have held up over the years. Doozy called the Murph early on noticing the unusual running distance for a Last Call Q. Moonlight really helped navigate the damp field. Good to see some regulars at Twin Team. Hope to continue sports discussion as it is a great start to the weekend. Safe travels to those going to the retreat.

  • They Never Made it Past the 50

At 5:30 am, 5 SOJ studs converged at The Swamp for another round of Twin Team action. Humid conditions and extra abrasive asphalt could not diminish our enthusiasm. Here is brief summary for your viewing pleasure:

Mosey to JRHS parking lot for warm ups: Russian Soldiers, Don Quixotes, Imperial Walkers, Helicopters, Arm Circles, Dead Man Hang, Cherry Pickers.

Exercise 1: Tour de Twin Team. We ran around the perimeter of both schools, stopping periodically to do 20 Merkins, 20 WWII sit-ups, 20 squats. Completed 5 sets.

Mosey to the track/football field for Exercise Two

Rd 1: lunge walk to 10 yard line, run back to end zone, bear crawl to 20 yard line, run back to end zone, lunge walk to 30 yard line, run back to end zone, bear crawl to 40 yard line, run back to end zone, lunge walk to 50 yard line, run back to end zone.

Rd 2: Same pattern, but run to yard markers and alternative between 20 flutter kicks and 5 burpees.
Rd. 3 – Same pattern, but alternate between butt kicks and high knees.

*Completed an additional round of 20 Merkins, 20 WWII’s, and 20 squats on the track.

Mosey back to BWES – On the grass hill near the baseball field – hill repeats until YHC calls time.

Walk back to the flag for Numbers/Names/Announcements.

    Gumbo took us out.

Final Thoughts: It was great to see Gumbo and Limehouse return to Twin Team. Props to them for also running to and from the workout. Lots of strong mumble chatter about kid’s sports and the WFT’s thrilling win last night (maybe that was just me). As always, it was honor to lead.

  • Slippery When Wet

A variety of workouts were happening at a bustling Twin Team. Conditions were perfect as fall seems to be upon us. Once everything was sorted 3 runners ran, 5 IPC combatants murder bunnied and a duo of SOJ regulars boot camped. This is what was rumored to have occurred according to the Chesterfield County janitorial staff.

Doozy started with the Q to discover darkness surrounding the High School. Short mosey down to the light near the track for warmarama that included DQ’s, Heli’s, Cherry Pickers, Russian Soldiers, LBC’s. Passing the Q over the YHC for…

    THE THANG:

Staying on the track for lady of the night 4 corners of the track. 10 HR Merkins, 20 WWII’s, 30 Squats, 40 American Hammers (2 count). Short Mosey over to the home bleachers.

Mini Dora with 100 derkins, 150 dips, 200 elevated merkins. Timer ran up the bleachers, 1/2 way across and slowly worked their way back down.

Mosey to the back of Betty Weaver to check on the IPC fellas. Still grinding. Peoples Chair against the building while the timer bear crawled across the black top and Bernied back. Next round Peoples Chair, lunge and Bernie. Alternate until time was called.

BTTF: Numbers, Names. Picked up 3 of the IPC crew for Announcements and Prayers. YHC took us out. Runners showed up as we vacated the AO pulling 7 miles towards the marathon training.

NMS: Good showing from various options this morning. IPC certainly seemed difficult but reported no merlot spills. Always good to get some track work in with Doozy, and YHC is appreciative of the conversation since Doozy could easily lap the competition. Wanted to get some vertical work in but bleachers were a bit dark and wet this morning, causing some possible rethinking of future workouts. Always good to start to the weekend. SYITG.

  • Is this a Sisyphus????

Big numbers this morning or so it seemed like big numbers. 3 runners, 2 regular SOJers and 2 travelers hit the pavement at Twin Team. According to the Staff of BWES this is what transpired.

Numbers / Names YHC took us out

    Convergence on Monday at Hoedown

    NMS:

Nice to see some new/old faces in the Gloom this morning. With Mr. Holland showing up YHC was willing to last minute give the Q over for a Sisyphus but the offer was turned down. The weather was perfect for an early morning beatdown, YHC remembers looking at the dashboard reading in the Hyundai as 70 and sunny but it is an old car with lots of miles so that reading may be +/- 20 degrees

  • Starbucks or Suicides

A trio of boot campers and quartet of runners ascended on Betty Weaver for the wet gloom. 5.30 strikes, runners are off onto the damp roads, boot campers off to find dry cover. This is what was discovered:

Mosey to Betty Weaver covered entrance for disclaimer and warmarama that included SSH, Dead Man Hang, DQ’s, Helis, Heals to Heaven and Merkins.

Mosey over to Twin Team with glow sticks in hand. With the help and experience of Doozy, YHC laid out 4 glow sticks as PAX climbed Twin Team hill hoping for the tree canopy to shelter us from any imposing showers. Stop at the top of the Twin Team. Suicides was the call of the day. Starting at the mailbox, run to the 1st glow stick – 10 squats then back to the mailbox. Mosey back to 2nd glow stick (stopping again at the 1st to perform 10 squats) for 20 Merkins, then back to the 1st glow stick (10 squats) and then mailbox. You get the idea. 3rd glow was 30 Monkey Humpers, 4th glow as 40 LBC’s. When completed, return back to the top of Twin Team. On the way down, collect the glow sticks and perform each exercise 1 more time. Mosey back to covered entrance at Betty Weaver. 10 minutes of Broga after a tiring week for these SOJ regulars.

Numbers, Names, Announcements. In the conversation, YHC forgot to take us out but PAX got the idea.

Announcements – a lot happening in September (Field Day, BRR, IronPax, etc.). See slack for details. Prayers for those affected by Covid and those in Afghanistan. If you are looking for a family hike this weekend, see the link below. A few water crossings and 1/2 way up the trail there is a nice swimming hole with rock jumps and waterfall. Good for dogs and young kids. Parking lot can get full and breweries are all around for afterwards.

Doozy is heading up to Charlottesville Saturday for a Bootcamp. Reach out to him if you are interested in carpooling.

NMS: YHC had planned a Murph this morning, but overnight showers changed plans so we ventured over to do some hillwork. YHC was hoping for some no shows this morning and even a coffeteria was mentioned to replace the workout but that would be unsatisfactory. It had been a while since YHC had visited Twin Team and it did not disappoint. Bullseye and YHC were in awe of the Doozy pace that was set. One only hopes to have that energy when we grow up. Great work this morning gents. I believe the runners put in 7 miles, strong work.

    NMS:

Twice this week YHC has been brow beat for the decision not to get the COVID shot. It is a choice, one that may or may not kill me only God knows your time. I am very proud to say that I served time to ensure the freedom and right for me and you to make a decision on what to do or not do. If I die from COVID know that I love all the brothers in the Gloom and that I died making a choice because of the freedom that was afforded to me.
