  • Patriot Day at Twin Team

5 PAX braved the swampy air just south of the James to join together for a beat down on Patriot Day at Twin Team. According the awesome trucker who gave us a “toot toot”, here is how it went down:

    COP

DTH grabbed the shovel flag it was carried proudly to the top of Twin Team. Stopped at the bottom for quick welcome and disclaimer. Don Quixote and Russian Soldiers done in cadence. Then back down and head to dirt track between playgrounds.

    The THANG

Plant the flag for an Old Glory. 20 minute timer set. AMRAP 4 corners with 20 merkins, 20 jump squats, 10 burpees, 20 WW2s. As we neared the end of the time, we returned for the six and finished as a unified PAX. Carried the flag back the way we came, up Twin Team and back down to the parking lot. (BTTOSFS)

Numbers, names, announcements (see below). Instead of a normal COT we ended with a moment of silence.

    NMM

YHC didn’t realize when grabbing the Q which day it was. There was a strong feeling within to do something appropriate today. What could be more appropriate than an Old Glory with two runs up Twin Team? It was great to see different members of the PAX volunteering to take turns carrying the shovel flag throughout the work out.

As shared at the COT, 9/11 was the single deadliest terrorist event in history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and police officers in history. We have a lot to be thankful for.

    NMS:

    • It was simple. It was painful. It went faster than YHC expected. Overall the TwinTeam Iron Pax produced VERY impressive finish times for our group ranging from 21:10 to 26:44. Participants times will be posted today to the IPC 2020 Stats Page. Personal thanks to Don Draper for pushing YHC through to the end, and for the PAX humoring DTH embracing his inner clipboard-carrying drill instructor (…or maybe a tryhard PE teacher). With the week Zero warm-up round complete, we can expect IPC corporate to post a brand new Week 1 routine this Sunday, which YHC will be Q’ing Tuesday at NoToll. Better rest up gents, this one will count! Let’s put F3RVA on the IPC map this year!!!
  • Back at the TT

Three SOJ workhorses showed up in the dark at Twin Team to get better. YHC has had some time away from boot camps and realized after DTH’s NoToll extravaganza that muscle soreness sets in quickly. No better way to get rid of it than to hit it again.

After a warmup of a few exercises in the bus loop we hit the Dirty MacDeuce. 4 rounds of 12 reps with a type of merkins, core and leg and a lap around the bus loop in between. We did some HRM, Tempo, Copperhead squats, lunges, plank jacks and some other extremely difficult stuff that I don’t want to type out.

Mosey to the stadium for Lindsay up and down the stadium stairs. Visibility on the stairs was still good enough to get up and down without too much trouble. Mosey back to the parking lot for some randorama to close it out.

Bettie Weaver is saving money with having the parking lot lights unLIT but losing all of the savings by running AC units in the unused trailers. Thanks to Bullseye and Chaplain for letting me lead. Good to be back at Twin Team.

    • Puppy pile Sunday 7am at NoToll
    • Iron Pax challenge coming up in September. Sign up, join the RVA crew. DTH and BoBerry are leading the charge SOJ, maybe Honeydo and Gypsy in the West End.
  • Joe Niekro Down By The River

A little late is better than not at all. No backblast=It didn’t happen. Met at normal Ghost Flag location for Twin Team. 4 SOJers ready to roll at 5:30 and we were off to see what YHC had in store.

    COP

Looong mosey all the way down the the park area by the James for:

    • Don Quixote
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Arm Circles
    • Circle Arms
    • Hello Dolly
    • Rosalita
    • Nolan Ryan’s

    THANG #1

Hit the floating dock for a converter belt type of deal with PAX #1 running to boat/canoe house, PAX #2 doing Merkins, PAX #3 doing LBCs, and PAX #4 doing squats. 2 rounds each then mosey to steps by river for

    THANG #2

11s with Sumo Squats at bottom of steps, and Shoulder Tap Merkins at the top, had to stop for interest of time before finishing all the sets. Long mosey BTTF, one minute left, so 10 merkins OYO.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out

    NMM

Stayed for close to 30 min after time talking about issues facing each of us with pandemic, masks, schools, virtual learning and other fun stuff on the docket. Great to chat with you all in the post gloom. Always good to know YHC is not alone and is facing similar struggles/issues as other PAX out there!
When YHC called out Nolan Ryans during the COP, Bullseye enquired about what type of pitcher Nolan Ryan was, and if he was a knuckleballer. YHC answered that he was a fastball pitcher. Bullseye said he was thinking of a pitcher he couldn’t remember the name of who was caught on the field with a file in his pocket. YHC did not believe that something like that actually happened. Thanks to the Google now we know. The answer is Joe Niekro

  • The Legend of the Beast of Twin Team

Three strapping Beast hunters showed up at Twin Team unaware of the story they where about to hear. This is a tale of misery and woe and not suitable for young children.

Mosey to the bottom of the hill AKA Twin Team for COP

DQ’s. Helicopters, Cherry Pickers, Dead man hangs, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Mountain Climbers, Plank Jacks

Mosey up the hill and mark out 4 lines in chalk on the steeper part

Legend has it the long before the Revolutionary War when the Colonists came to this area there was a beast that roamed Twin Team and it was our duty to retrace the footsteps of those early Colonists and try to find the Beast. First they had to get through the woods by getting down and up and around the thick branches Kind of like a Burpee (6 at each line down and back). They did not see the Beast so they figured they would jump around waiving their hands to try and get his attention kind of like a SSH (6 at each line down and back). After still not seeing the Beast and getting tired from the trip they decided to rest for the night but they kept hearing things and would have to wake up in a start kind of like a WWII (6 at each line down and back). In the morning without much sleep they decided they would need to push themselves up out of bed kind of like a Merkin (6 at each line down and back). Our hero’s where not quit out of bed when they heard some noises that made them jump kind of like a Jump Squat (6 at each line down and back). It was at this time that the PAX decided they may not see the Beast this day and they better head back to the ship (AKA the Flag) but to get there they would have to go back through the woods kind of like Ball Dippers (6 at each line on the way down)

Kind of like the baseball pre season games, College softball & baseball reruns that YHC has been watching – Due to time constraints we had to jump ahead in the program.

Numbers / Names Tobit took us out

    NMS:

The Legend of the Twin Team Beast is a part of Midlothian VA folk tale lore and further exploration and research will need to be done to prove if this is fact or fiction but as for YHC and those fine young men who where brave enough to come along for the adventure, we believe.

    To be continued ………

  • Sumpfbestie

5 bilingual redwoods arrived on the sprawling campus of Betty Weaver Elementary School to tackle a long awaited Twin Team VQ for YHC. 5.30 and 4 were about to head off when headlights appeared in the distance. Pigskin, making the trek from Charlotte, came in hot to join the party. Tales have been spread over time but this is how it will be remembered.

Mosey down the James River High parking lot for COT. SSH, DQ’s and Helicopters were on the menu. Warm? lets get to the main course.

Mosey over to the Swamp to utilize the Field for a Beast with the following exercises: plankjacks, doubletap merkins, WWII’s, squats, calf raises, burpees. Everyone looked good, continue on to the parking lot.

5 corners in the parking lot starting at 10 and continuing to 50 count. Exercises included merkins, 2 count American hammers, jump squats, mountain climbers, then up the hill to finish with lbc’s.

Mosey to the back of the school for Bear Crawl Ladder. PAX up against the building alternating between peoples chair and balls to the wall. 1 person bear crawls to the opposite curb and rejoins PAX at the end. 2nd person begins bear crawl. Round 2 switched to lunges.

    BTTF

No announcements or prayers today, YHC took us out.

During COT, Pigskin and Mr. Holland were alternating counts between German and Spanish. YHC can hardly speak English with Math also being a challenge, making it difficult to determine when to stop. This gave us the German title (tclaps to Google Translate).

Welcome Pigskin, up from Charlotte visiting his family and possibly relocating to Richmond in the future. Turns out Mr. Holland and Pigskin are long lost distant family friends and possibly cousins from Mathews county. Small world.

Enjoyed working with you gentleman this morning. YHC has been looking to Q Twin Team for a while since Doozy brought me out a few months ago. Happy to avoid the Twin Team hill but only assume it will be revisited in upcoming AO’s. Stay safe this weekend and seize the day.

  • CCPS Mulch budget is still flush

4 faithful made it out to Twin Team and wondered were the piles of Mulch around the school part of the Q’s plan for the beatdown? Instead we took off and did:

COP: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks.

THE THANG: Down to the big parking lot. 4 sets of 3 lightposts. Start at 1 burpee, run to next one then do 2 Burpees, all the way up to 12th light. That’s 78 Burpees!

Over to baseball stadium: 4 rounds of: Benchkicks and Derkins. Benchkicks start at 20 then increase by 10, Derkins stay at 10 reps. Over to BWES field: Lunge across, Pickle poumders, Bernie back then 20 WWIIs. Karaoke across then Flutterkicks.

Over to playground: 4 sets of 8 Pull-ups. Then back to field for spring across, 20 HRMs, spring back then 20 more HRMs. Mosey back to flag with a few stops for bear crawl and mary. BoBerry took us out.

Announcements: Puppy Pile this Sunday, 7:00 am at NoToll. SlipNslide is rumored to make an appearance again.

NMS: Strong showing from the PAX this morning. Escalating burpees right off the bat will get the blood flowing. Doozy was already warmed up after almost hitting a deer coming into the AO. He made the burpees look easy.

Several piles of mulch sitting around BWES waiting to be spread out or played with. BoBerry, always on the lookout for a Q theme or angle, kept eyeing the piles. Both the baseball field and BWES field were in perfect condition this morning- well mowed and not too dewy. Bullseye audible’d every exercise YHC called which he said was because of an Ab injury but YHC was starting to get a complex by the end.

  • The Socially Distant Q

Arrived to find Twin Team empty other than some of Chesterfield’s Finest. 5:30 hit and YHC was solo other than Jake. He left before he could be EH’d. Solo Q was the soup d jour so on and away! According to the confused Bettie Weaver employee it went something like this:

    Mosey to basketball courts for:

    COP

    • Nancy Kerrigans
    • Jazzercise
    • Helicopters
    • Don Quixote
    • Low Scissor
    • High Scissor
    • Merkins

    Mosey to playground sets for

    THANG #1

Four Corners (four playgrounds?) prostitute style

    • 10 Pullups (Jerkins)
    • 20 Incline Merkins on the park bench
    • 30 Sumo Squats
    • 40 WW2s

Mosey to hill adjacent to baseball fields for

    THANG #2

11s with burpees and Heels to Heaven

Then run the long way around and mosey BTTF

    NMS

    • If there is no backblast, did it actually happen?
    • Many thanks to all the PAX who have pushed YHC. If this had happened earlier in the year, YHC may have just left at 5:30.
  • Easing into the weekend with a SMurph …

Easing into the weekend with a SMurph …

Five bad dudes kicked it off right this morning at Twin Team. Here’s how it went:

    COP: Nope. Not yet.

Mosey to the Swamp for a lap around the track, then to the Bettie Weaver ES playground/grassy field for:

COP: Little baby arm circles x 10. Reverso. That’s all you get; that’s all you need. Tip’s already in.

The Thang: Fourth Friday of the month… how about a Murph? Oh, we just did that on Memorial Day? Let’s do a SMurph :

    10 pull-ups OYO

    Suicides – 50 yds/25 yds

    10 4ct Merkins

    15 4 ct Squats

    x 10 rounds

Mosey back through the JRHS parking lot to return cones, then BTTF via scenic route around Bettie Weaver ES.

COT: Numbers, names, prayer requests, YHC took us out.

Announcements: Please pray for Last Call’s friend of 20+ years, Joe C. He just got word that his lung cancer has spread and the outlook is grim. Prayers for Doozy and his family as they celebrate the life of his mother inn law.

NMMS: This little f*cker of a workout was no joke. Garmin says 2.69 miles, so the suicides got us all the mileage we needed for a Murph proper. The PAX crushed it today.

    Go get some!
