  • To be, or not to be (snipped)

Six strong in search of snow found none but instead found their way to the bottom of South Ridge with gifts of Coupons and 40 minutes to make it back to the top. Along the way stories were shared of the status of various PAX’s Vas Deferens.

COP at Triangle Park: SSH, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, LBCs. Mosey down to bottom of Ridge hill (aka Vas Deferens Hill) and find 4 of the heavy coupons. Partner up for various exercises making upward progress on the hill:

1st Round: Run & Lunge n’ Press with Coupon.

2nd Round: Run with coupon 80 yards, then drop and do 40 Block Presses. Other man bear crawls and flapjack.

3rd Round: Bernie Sanders up while other does Block Swing walk.

4th Round: Run 100 yards then do 10 WWIIs. Other man murder bunnies with block and flapjack until done.

5th Round: Run 100 yards then 20 merkins, while man with coupon Bernie Sanders up the hill.

6th Round: Take block to Triangle Park and do 20 Sit & Press while other does Crab Walk. Flapjack until done.

Deposit Coupons back and finish with snow day sprints in the middle of River Rd. Back to flag, announcements & YHC took us out. In spirit of the morning PAX said their Snipped Date instead of age.

NMS: As Handshake noted at the start 6 is perfect PAX number for First Watch. YHC arrived early to deposit the coupons at the bottom of Ridge but Kubota was already in the lot at 4:40 so he knew what to expect. YHC opted for the legit sized Coupons not the mini-blocks Upchuck uses.

Lots of good mumblechatter stories going up the hill as Handshake had primed the pump with his query on Sunday on Slack. The PAX was split 50/50 in the COT on the status of their Vas Deferens. Also Kubota provided an update that he is moving back up to 2020 out of the 1950’s Ozzie & Harriet sleeping arrangements, although there seemed to be some trepidation in his voice about this. Bacon Bits is 1 week out from Baby #2 slated arrival so he seemed to be taking notes on the morning’s topic.

YHC confesses he “borrowed heavily” from Upchuck on this workout as he had previously done it this summer. Starting at the bottom of this half mile hill with coupons does take almost exactly 45 minutes with a brief COP at the top. Twin Team may have better marketing with the Sisyphus stylings of Mr. Holland but tackling S Ridge in the Gloom is a taller challenge.

Annoucements: HDHH at Hardywood West Creek is still on as of now. Snow seems to be a no-show but watch slack if this changes. See you at 5:00.

  • Sabbath for 3rd F

Six script studies tackled our bi-weekly 3rd F Zoom call with only minor tech issues. Topic was the concept of Sabbath, in both the old & new testament. Lot of focus on 2020, with all the isolation and chaos being similar to a Sabbath year to refocus and renew with yourself and family.

NMS: Gypsy worked in a good Old Testament stoning verse, so par for the course. Good group and good discussion as always. Apologies for the Q’s spotty reception.

Next 3rd F is 12/22. Who will bring home the meaning of Christmas for this Q?

  • Well because, we’re men

An even 8 including a HBR newbie, came out to the coldest day so far this winter to see if YHC could keep the PAX warm. We tried with:

COP: Invisible Jumprope, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Flutterkicsk, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey to covered side of school for Sprints to get our blood flowing: Sprint length, shortening length each round. Sort of like a Michigan but not as much, maybe a UP’er.

Mosey to Tennis courts: Partner up for 3 Rounds of Wheelbarrow to net then 15 Derkins. Each man goes 3 times. Over to DK wall and partner up: 500 Donkey Kicks between the 2 with other man People’s chair until DK’er switches. Audible to 250 as wall and ground were icy making DKs impossible. Down to the Jerkin Gym and partner up again: 4 Rounds of AMRAP Jerkins. Back up to main lot: Alternate bear crawl & lunge every 4 spaces. Back across alternate Crab Walk & Broad Jumps. Finish up with Polar Bear across entire lot with Merkin at every space. Finish with 1 min of Mary: 23 Reverse Crunches, HTTR! Atilla took us out.

NMS: Good to have a solid 8 PAX in this cold gloom. Kudos for Bacon Bits for posting at HBR for the first time, where he proceeded to tweak his calf on the sprints but still soldiered through, aye. Sprints were a called to get the PAX warmed up. 500 DKs is possible for a partnered group but the frost and ice made this not the day for it.

Atilla was heard to remark on the Wheelbarrows that we do not do this exercise enough. Besides YHC calling them they are infrequently used but always effective. The AMRAM Jerkins was a test of veteran vs. newer pax as some pax emptied the tank after the first round. Tater was able to lap the pax on the bear crawls, dude is seriously half grizzly.

Announcements: 3rd F tonight, talking about Sabbath. HDHH next Wednesday at Hardywood West Creek.

  • Gloom gifts at Twin Team

Five faithful came out to Twin Team to find mid 40s weather that felt downright balmy after yesterday. With YHC as Q we took off, as Rosie would note, to normal HD COP spot for:

SSH, Russian Soldiers, Don Qs, Merkins, & LBCs relocated to the parking lot. Mosey over to our normal Donkey Kick space to discover a wonderful new gift – 5 brand new benches sitting under the cover on the DK wall. With this newfound bounty we did:

4 Rounds of: 10 Box Jumps, run to middle of lot then 20 Merkins. Why not repeato: 4 more rounds of 20 Dips & 10 V-Ups. Finish our time on the new benches with 30 Derkins.

Over to stadium for some Zs: Run diagonal across field, 3 burpees, Bear crawl width of field to corner 3 more burpees. Run diagonal across again 3 more burpees & bear crawl back to start. 2nd round was 10 WWIIs at corners and lunge across rather than Bear Crawl.

Mosey over to mail parking lot: 20 Jump Squats at each of 6 lights with alternating run & bernie. Back to flag for some mary of: APDs, Reverse Crunches, Heels2Heaven, & Pickle Pounders. YHC took us out.

NMS: Strong PAX this morning. Rosie pointed out on the initial mosey to COP that YHC always does the COP on the field. Not sure if that is a good thing but YHC does like to Q out at Twin Team, she really is a great AO. YHC was hoping he could give a preview of his Stache to Gumbo this am but he seems to be prepping for Magnum PI day.

What a surprise it was to come over to the DK wall and find brand new benches to play with. Upon further inspection there are 5 of them, one for each PAX. Xmas seemed to come early to TT. The benches seemed to hold up well on their initial test run. Expect future Qs to play with those more, Doozy recommended Dual-partner-carry with one pax sitting on the bench while 2 pax hold each end and run around. Doublemint shared he is already a black belt Ju-Jitsu and now with his boxing training seems to be headed to a spot in the UFC sometime in 2021.

Annoucements: HDHH seems to be in the works on 12/16 or at least that week. Look for more details on Slack.

  • COP Merkins are just harder

Eight eager HBR regulars found their way out on a legit fall morning. 5:30 and off to PES for COP: SSH, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Freddy Mercurys, Scorpion Kicks.

Dora 123: 100 Burpees, 200 Merkins, 300 LBCs. Run length of parking lot in between. Mosey down to Benches & grab a coupon:

4 Rounds of: Coupon Pullovers, Benchkicks, & weighted Step-ups. Deposit coupons back & back to flag for some Mary and some bonus Merkins. Merkin count for the day was 150 merkins.

NMS: While standing around before kickoff Tater was full of his normal energy, including a Leprechaun like Irish Jig. Handshake loved the Dora to start, especially with 100 Burpees. That and 200 Merkins ate up a good chunk of the beatdown.

Coupon work on the benches was fun until trying to do the Step-Up with a block in the slick mud.

In the COP Handshake noted that Merkins during the COP seem much harder than regular merkins during the course of the beatdown. All seemed to be agreement.

Mumblechatter taught the PAX that if you’re going to Rona-quarantine – do it at Notre Dame, sounds like the Ritz.

  • Figure 8 it is

Five fleet footed PAX came out to see what route would come up. Figure 8 it was.

Pump out to Short pump park and back. All stayed together for 5. Good times.

    Coffee at Einstein’s was better.

  • A Killer good time

Twenty-One Trick or Treaters posted to Dogpile on all Hallows Eve for another Honeydo Q on Halloween. Some were wondering: was this a sequel, a reboot of the original, or all new material for a themed Q. Here is what we did:

COP: Invisible Entrails Jumps, Zombie Kicks, Monster Mash Merkins, something else spooky. Mosey to field but stop by lightpost on the way for Exorcist possession: 20 of a given exercise called by random pax member.

Zombie Chaser Sprints: Pax sprints to hill and last 3 are taken down and turned into Reverse Crunch Zombies. Last round was controversial as Probation cheated to win.

Jacobs Ladder (horror style): Go width of field and increase burpees up from 1 to 7. Between sides alternate Bear Crawl and Crab Walk.

Head over to Burpee Road for long Exorcist Lightpost exercises. Lots of variants: Helix Squat, Train to Busain scoots, Mtn Climbers, etc. Finish with 20 burpees at last lightpost.

Line up in team of 3 for: Human Centipede: Line up in plank feet to head and last pax broad jumps up and over until at the front. Repeat 2 times through. Mosey down to bottom of Rugby for: 7 Minute Abs (aka 3 sets of 25 PLTs per man).

Partner up while at the bottom: Wheelbarrow all the way up to the COP circle. Finish up with some HRMs and back to the flag. Bone Thug took us out as this is his 2 year Anniversary this week, Aye!

Annoucements: November Merkin Monthly challenge starts tomorrow. 5,000 Merkins for the month, 167 a day. Prayers for peace this week for the election – let’s share grace and patience with those around us needing it.

NMS: Solid numbers who were up for some goofy theme fun this morning. Hardywood’s definition of horror is definitely difference from YHC. The Zombie Chasers and Jacobs ladder were a ripoff from the original Q YHC did a few years ago. The Exorcist Lightpost exercises along Burpee Road were new and lots of fun, good variation of exercises for the PAX. Boberry and Seymore were in the Halloween spirit in costume. We had a Sippy Cup run-by after the beatdown, a welcome sight.

Human Centipede needs to come out more in the gloom, although the pax struggled with the initial directions. Upchuck and YHC dominated the partner wheelbarrow to the top, maybe there are Ab muscles in there somewhere. Good times as always at ETs, however proposals are being accepted for appropriate cold-weather location for Coffeteria.

  • IPC flashbacks

Eight elite emerged from the fog to HBR including some we have not seen in a while. We did:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks. Mosey to Coupon drop zone & grab a block.

Partner up: 1 PAX starts one way on the track with both blocks while other PAX run other way and meets up. Block Carrier does 3 burpees then runs a lap. 4 times through.

Benchwork: 15 Block Bench pullovers & 30 Benchkicks. 5 sets total. Over to Heartbreak Hill- 5 rounds of: 30 block presses at the top, run down and 10 V-Ups. Drop coupons back to drop zone then back to front of track: 3 sets of PLTs – 20 each man. Mosey back to flag & few LBCs to get us to 6:15. YHC took us out.

Announcements: Final days of shoe drive, let’s get over 100 for the month. Bring them to Dogpile or Gridiron Saturday. HDHH at The Answer Wednesday at 5:00. 3rd F tonight at 8:00, see Slack for link.

Prayer request: Please pray for Offshore & his family. His MIL passed away this past weekend.

NMS: Since YHC donated the blocks for the IPC it was time to break them back out. The partner carry & switch instructions were confusing, some would say Upchuck-esque, but got the blood flowing. The block pullovers were a favorite of the PAX, keeping us off the ground. Not a lot of mumblechatter with all the block work.

YHC was first in and then saw Atilla pull in, a very welcome sight as he’s been absent from HBR for a few weeks. No Handshake this morning, guess he’s working on stories to share at First Watch tomorrow.

  • 5 for 5

Five runners came out to Currahee to see what route YHC had in store. All opted for 5 with minor variations:

Left on Pump, Left on Falconbridge and stay on all the way until Ridgefield then over to Deep Run park. Choose your own distance when to turnaround in the park. Head back same route.

Announcements: Several pairs of shoes collected this week in West end. Nice work, keep those shoes coming! Prayers for Upchuck family especially his M and MIL.

NMS: Beautiful morning for a run. Falconbridge has no traffic and wide roads so YHC wanted to spend some feature that route. Only drawback is that entire section and then Deep Run are completely dark. Handshake was stuck running with YHC since his light was out of battery. Upchuck and Gomer pulled ahead and almost reeled in Handshake, Greenbow, and YHC upon the return in to GHS. YHC offers up this route name of: Falcon Smash.

  • A potato not shared

A lucky 13 came out to see who HP was on the Q sheet. Handshake took us off to start as we did:

COP: Don Qs, Dead man hangs, Helicopters, HRMs, incorrectly done Scorpion Kicks. Over to straight-away on side of school: 10 sets of sprints length of the lot. Up to the PES lot for a Triple check of: WWIIS, Donkey Kicks, run the side lot. Q was finally passed at 5:57 to YHC.

Down to back of QMS for 3 sets of 20 PLTs, then down to the Jerkin Gym for 4 sets of 8 Jerkins. Last second pass to Greenbow who took us to Heartbreak hill for a few rounds up: Bear Crawl, Crab Walk, then Bunny hop up. Back to flag. Atilla took us out.

Annoucements: PAX is doing well collecting shoes for this October shoe-drive challenge. After this morning likely over 15 pairs or more. See Slack for more details. Tomorrow is soft launch of running focused boot camp at Pocahontas MS. 3+ miles and boot camp in 45 minutes. Also see Malpractice’s post on Slack about Crossover Ministry.

NMS: Handshake had requested a Hot Potato Q last night with the Q sheet open. Having called for it he took us from the COP on until almost 6:00. The series of 10 sprints at the start were awful. He then called up a Triple check which ate up more time. Finally the Q was passed and YHC wanted to get some Jerkin Gym time in. Apparently Handshake is generous with his bourbon but not a Q.

Greenbow stepped up by taking us straight to the hill and making sure our gloves & hands were properly soaked before the COT. Great to have 13 out this morning as HBR continues to grow. Will the Coupons from the IPC sit dormant for the rest of October? Will a Q break those out again soon?
