  • 2017 Year in Review

20 came out to Dogpile to reflect on the year that was 2017 in F3RVA.  Some memories turned out to be fonder than others.

COP in Amphitheater – Started 2017 there at our Frozen Triangle CSAUP.  SSH, Merkins, Helicopters, Invisible Jumprope.  Then up stairs we went 5 Dips per step.

March – Belmonte 25k/50k.  Partner up for PLTs.  25 then 50. Head downhill to the bottom near water plant.

April – Ragnar & Colonial 70.   Ragnar had 8 man team with 15 miles each so 8 Curb Crawls with 15 Merkins each stop.

May – Launch of F3 Charlottesville.  Cville is 70 miles away so 7 rounds of WWII Situps run up & down hill in between sets.

June – Launch of F3RVA.org & BIG DATA.  Dogpile averages most per week at 23 so 23 Burpees. Mosey to Jacobs Bowl

August – SOJ Takeover    100 Monkey Humpers.  Then head to Rusty Cage

September – BRR – F3 RVA had 2 11 man teams.  11s of Dips (real dips on bars) and American Hammers.  Back to COP Cirlce.

    October – 3 Year Convergence   44 Merkins

    November –  Devil Dog 100k.  64 Flutterkicks

December –  F3 RVA closes out 2017 with 22 AOs.  22 WWII Situps.  Back to the flag and finish up with Heels2Heaven.

NMS –  YHC has been slacking on his themes in 2017 and wanted to close out the year on a higher note.  Looking back on the year was a good way to close out Dogpile for the year.  Good to have Guinness and Sir Topham Hat out at Dogpile for our year in review.  F3RVA has definitely had quite a year, as one can clearly see in Big Data.  The PAX had fond memories of the Frozen Triangle and Belmonte as we ran through the first few months.  That went out the window when we hit April – Ragnar and took on the Curb Crawls.  15 Merkins each Curb is ambitious but the PAX took it on.

Most PAX opted (smartly) for head above feet on the WWII Situps on the hill.  The 23 Burpees on the top had some groans, but compared to Shakedown’s VQ earlier this week it was nothing.  Mumblechatter abounded as the PAX took on Dips on the bars for what seemed like the first time in over a year.  Apparently Jerkins were all the rage in 2017.

Sad to see only 6 bare knees in the Gloom, SOP challenge is definitely taking casualties.  Flipper sets a new record of LIFO by finding the PAX conveniently just after we finished up the Curb Crawls.

Happy New Year PAX.  See everyone at 7:00 at Hoedown on Monday morning.

  • Plenty of statistics for Offshore

Three 40 Year Old Pax came out to Heartbreak Ridge to begin to shed off the gluttonous excess of Christmas day.

COP – SSH, Don Qs, LBCs, Merkins, Arm Circles

Head to Benches for – Boxing Day Sets.  5 Box Jumps & 10 Box Cutters. Increase by 5 & 10 up to 20 & 40.  Mosey to parking lot. People’s Chair for 2 min.

Line up for Bear Crawl across parking spaces. 2 Merkins each space. Head down to Pull-up bars. 6 Pull-ups then lap around track. Then more Pull-ups. Swing by benches for Bench Kicks- 40 & 50.

Jerkin Triple check. 1 PAX runs up and down Heartbreak Hill while other 2 tradeoff on Jerkins. 1 more set of Benchkicks.

Back to parking lot and try out Offshore’s new present- Exercise dye. Exercises rolled were: Jump Squats, plank, Burpees, Freddy Mercurys.

NMS- According to Offshore there were 2 statistical anomalies in the Gloom this am: all 3 Pax were 40 yrs old and also we never repeated an exercise in the 10 or so throws of his handy new dye. Math is everywhere apparently.

Offshore was prepared for the Boxing day sets. The benches were a few inches higher than the normal ones at NoToll which slowed the pax down. Kubota put in solid work as usual, glad to have him out at Heartbreak Ridge.

The exercises dye definitely has 15 Burpees on it. Pretty sure this will make an appearance at a future Offshore Q. Happy Boxing Day Pax.

  • The 3rd 500

20 strong (including 1 FNG) posted to an unusually warm last day of fall.  55 degrees and clear made several PAX throw off their long sleeve shirts and off we went for:

COP – 40 SSH, 40 Merkins, 20 LBCs, 10 Imperial Walkers, 10 Don Qs, & Arm Circles thrown in for Flashdance NOT being LIFO.

Head to Amphitheater:  5 Box Jumps up each step up to 8 Steps.  5 Derkins heading back down. Mosey over towards Rugby road.

3rd 500 –  Partner up for a total of 500 Flutterkicks.  1 partner runs up to circle, does 3 burpees then back and switches.   Then mosey off to Rusty Cage.    Stay with Partner – 40 Pullups and 40 Jerkins.  Head back to COP circle for:

    40 Burpees

Finish up with some Mary: Box Cutters, LBCs, Alabama Prom Dates, Hello Dollies, Rosalitas.  Head back to the flag.

NMS – Great to see 20 out to play on YHCs End of Hate Q.  We even had a Gumbo sighting during the week north of the James.  Maybe we’ll see him again NOJ in 3 years when EF Hutton does his End of Hate Q.  TYA even posted.  Most of the PAX had an idea we’d be doing 40 of most of the exercises.  The 40 Box Jumps got the blood flowing.  YHC wanted to save 40 Burpees until the end.

During the 3rd 500 we had visitors join us briefly all with Offshore Lightup Laces.  They then proceeded to rip off the remainder of YHC’s Q by heading to the Rusty Cage after we left.  Not sure if they took on the 40 Burpees like we did.

Good to have Wojo back in the Gloom.  He refused any help during the Pullups and insisted on good form.  He may be quiet but YHC is pretty sure there is a Form Nazi just waiting to breakout, just do lunges around him.

Welcome Pick2.  He “overheard” some people at Panera yesterday talking about F3.  YHC assumes that person was Lab Rat.  As another fellow PAX member who just posted without anyone bringing them YHC knows that is not easy.  Hope to see you back in the Gloom soon.  Also it is great to see Bootleg staying behind and watching for the 6 when not long ago you were in that position.  A testament to the work you’ve been putting in, Aye!

Bodos continues to post regularly now and is quietly angling for a new name.  Maybe we can recycle Blue Balls…

Announcements – HDHH today at The Answer.  New Years day at Hoedown is at 7:00, bring a FNG.

  • Pre-blast: HDHH this Wednesday

On 12/20 at The Answer Brewpub. I’ll be there at 5:00. Tacky sweater optional…

  • 12 Days travels well

6 steady PAX posted to Heartbreak Ridge to enjoy the worst kept secret of the 12 Days of Christmas beatdown. Just because PAX knew it was coming did not stop it from sucking. 12 days on 12/12 has a nice ring to it.

COP- 12 of everything – SSH, Don Qs, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Imperial Walkers.

Mosey to baseball field for THE THANG

1 Dozen LBCs, 2 Sprint of the field, 3 Diamond Merkins, 4 Imperial Squat Walkers, 5 Burpees, 6 Carolina Drydocks, 7 Lunges, 8 Plerkins, 9 American Hammers, 10 Flutterkicks, 11 Reverse Crunches, 12 Broad Jump Burpees.

NMS- YHC thinks only Loose Goose and YHC had actually experienced this beating from Rosie in years past at NoToll. Why not try to import this beatdown to the West End. We ran 2 min long to complete the full 12 days ladder. All the Pax were glad YHC had obtained proper corporate approval from Rosie.

The 12 Days took a while as our field is longer to run. Derkins were changed out for Plerkins as we had a lack of benches. Note to Pax when doing Plerkins find Ronnie.

Lots of Mumblechatter about counting during various segments. Loose Goose had an opinion about every count somehow. Guess Steelers fans are going to be a little mouthy this week, God only know what will happen if they actually beat the Pats this weekend.

Good to have Offshore back at Heartbreak Ridge. He had his own take on the theme by dressing as Mr. Snowmiser in all tight silver attire.

During the 11 rounds of runs across the field nobody was able to find a dry path across. Plenty of soggyness at HBR, which made it all the more fun.

Announcements – Mr Holland has Christmas Q at Hoedown. Be there.  HDHH at the Answer next Wednesday 12/20.

  • 100th time feels like the first time

25 strong and 2 FNGs came out to 45MoM on a perfect November morning. Short sleeve and shorts weather although most pax opted for more layers. Here is what went down-

COP on soccer field since we needed the space- SSH, Don Qs, Hillbillies, Merkins, Freddy Mercurys, Arm Circles, 10 Burpees.  Head to corner of track- 100 Merkins. As many sets as needed, run a lap after each sets. 3 sets (2 laps) for most. 10 more Burpees.

Head to blacktop- Wheelbarrow width of court and back with partner. 15 more Burpees.

Back to soccer field – 100 total PLTs and 100 Shoulder Presses. Polar bear across field then finish off with some Honeymoon Suite- APDs, Monkey Humpers, Pickle Pounders. Back to the flag.

NMS- YHC knew it was going to be a good morning as the cars kept rolling in right before 5:30. 27 pax is great but can cause some changes in plans. In the COP Rosie carried the SOJ torch during the Hillbillies.

Many pax began to wonder if the 100 theme would carry over to Burpees during the 2nd round, alas not enough time. 35 were still enough.

The Shoulder Presses were merely thrown in to try to recreate some BT-Viral magic. Again this exercise is underutilized but form was terrible all around. Polar bears at the end got the Merkin count up to 150 or so. Many PAX were groaning as the pickle Pounders count got north of 10. Maybe a December Pickle Pounders challenge is in order…

Welcome Syncro and Spicolli. Hope to see you both out next week at 6:00 at 45MoM to celebrate the first Thanksgiving that was just down the road at Berkeley Plantation.

YHC had been wondering how many total Qs he’d done since starting 2.5 years ago. The podcast prompted a count and YHC noticed the count was conveniently at 99last week. Thanks for playing along this morning and all of these Qs. Q’ing is really a great way to channel your energy and work on your leadership skills. YHC hopes to see many more in the Centennial Q Club in the coming years. As an aside running Qs do count, but only 20 of them towards the 100 goal. Sorry Lockjaw and TYA…

  • DK and his Imaginary FNG

Five (or was it six?) took advantage of summer weather on a november morn. We did:

COP -SSH, Imperial Walkers, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks Scorpion Kicks, Arm Circles.

Head to Parking lot. 10 Merkins each light. 12 in total. Mosey to back road. 10 Jump Squats each parking cone. 20 cones in total. Then head to Donkey Kick Wall for Goodbye Dollies and 20 Donkey Kicks.

Head to smaller parking lot – 10 Merkins per light, 6 in total. Indian Run back to BW, 2 Burpees back man. Back to field- 20 WWII Situps, run across field 5 merkins, run back. Increase WWII situps by 5 all the way up to 40. Back to flag for RoF. Mr Roper took is out.

NMS – DK was hoping a FNG he had EH’ed would post. He was on the lookout during the COP, then on the Merkin lot found the FNGs car in that lot, but no Andy in sight. Several PAX began to wonder was Andy real or had DK finally turned rabid from a Racoon bite and began hallucinating. Finally at the end during the WWII Andy found us between the trees. He did not join us for the end, maybe next week.

Merkin count was 235 for the Pax. During the Jumpsquats Rosie had a lot of questions, to be fair he was setting the pace.

Small numbers at TwinTeam, apparently the New Market pax can’t post 2 days in a row after Timberwolf.

Announcements – Gingerbread house fundraiser at Hardywood this Sunday at noon.

  • How to survive in a horror movie

A frightful five came out to Heartbreak Ridge to train up for this evening’s festivities lest they take a turn for the worse.

COP- SSH, Imperial Walkers, Don Qs, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey to school wall facing parking lot for Sprints. 2 Rounds of Sprint lot and back like someone was chasing you.

Head to baseball field, audible since field was waterlogged. Head to blacktop. 20 Coffin Openers (aka WWI Situps).  Then gather in middle of blacktop for Scatter drill. 1 PAX does 2 Burpees and then chases down PAX who are bear crawling to safety of grass. Each pax takes turn as chaser. 20 more Coffin Openers. Then grab piece of wall and try new Goodbye Dollys, an upside down Hello Dolly while in Balls2Wall.

Head to track. Each pax does 10 Captain Crunches while rest do Jerkins. Head to Heartbreak Hill for injured partner carry up hill. So much fun repeato. Mosey to benches for reverse crunches, Flutterkicks. Then 2 more rounds of Sprints. Finish with Pickle Pounders and LBCs.

    Mr Holland took us out.

NMS – The PAX took to the survival theme with gusto. EF Hutton led the sprints but that may be because Garbage Plate isn’t 100%. The zombie scatter chase on the blacktop was a blast. YHC was the only one to make it to the grass although EF Hutton proved hardest to catch.

We now now how to make Heartbreak Hill worse, just do partner carry up it. If you get injured don’t expect Atilla to carry you away from danger as he’ll drop you for dead.

Pickle Pounders were added as no good horror movie is without sexual activity.

Happy Halloween from the Silent Assassin!

  • Chicken Peckers and Kettlebells don’t mix

A faithful four came out to the Circus on a beautiful fall morning. 48 degrees, stocking cap weather for some, and clear and YHC was allowed to keep his Q that he signed up for. We did-

COP – SSH, Helicopters, Scorpion Kicks, Don Qs, Merkins, LBCs. Grab the KB for-

50 Swings, 25 Squats, 20 Around the World, 25 Squats, Merkin Rows, Squats, Boat-Canoe. Elbow plank & Pickle Pounders.

Attempted Chicken Peckers w/ KB. Not successful. Audible to 3 sets of Donkey Kicks and LBCs. More Boat-Canoe.

Line up under columns. Lunge between column, 5 Merkin Rows at each Column. Same thing back but Squats instead of Rows.

10 Cleans each arm. Squats, Lawnmowers, Pullovers. Pickle Pounders, American Hammers, 20 Situp presses. Flutterkicks & then Atilla to us out.

NMS- YHC enjoyed Circle Ks new exercise from Wdog why not try Chicken Peckers with a KB? YHC demo’ed it, almost fell over, and then the PAX tried it anyway. Note doing B2TW with a Kettlebell staring at you in the face if you slip is not fun.

We did a lot of Squats for a good leg burn. Jville made it through with no issues and White Deer kept his normal mumblechatter to a minimum.

Mumblechatter did focus on Pickle Pounders are not a novelty. No Earthworm today as he and his M are still on a Bridges of Madison County tour in the NE.

    Silent Assassin signing off.

  • Proper trimming leads to better results

14 strong gathered at Hoedown to enjoy the properly maintained grassy sections of TES. It only rained when the PAX were facing skyward on the ground. It went down with:

COP – Invisible Jump Ropes, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Freddy Mercurys. Head up to top field, partner up- 50 Pull-ups between 2 partners.

Face school- Bear Crawl across field, lunge back. Then broad jump across field, lunge back. Partner up – Wheelbarrow across and back. Then Crab Walk, lunge back.

Line up for Human Centipede. 1 time through. Mosey to 3rd Prez Parking lot. Derkins down by five from 20 across lot. Karaoke across. Then 15 Jump Squats each end 4 time.

Back to front of school for 3 sets of 20 PLTs. Fish up with 3 sets of: 20 Donkey Kicks and 5 Burpees. COT and Marv took us out.

NMS – The rain started as soon as we started Freddy Mercurys but stopped and held off until we hit the ground again for PLTs near the end. Otherwise perfect weather. And nice to cover an AO without the need of a machete. The PAX does enjoy a trimmed AO to play with, maybe except Saab who prefers the 70s style he grew up with.

The upper field was plent bright but just dark enough to keep form police at bay. The 50 Pull-ups to start woke the pax up and made for fun as some taller pax had to improvise on the playsets.

The 3rd Prez Parking lot offers a well lit space to play with. The Hoedown AO continues to expand. Abut half the pax ran in to the AO and Marv is dreaming of the day he can resume that tradition.

Announcements – Puppy pile and optional 2nd hour of Dogpile this Saturday.
