  • Is this still July?

Six studs posted to Batteau to take advantage of the fall-like temperatures. 60 degrees and sunny, with a cool dew covering the ground made for a great way to close out July.

COP – Invisible Jump Rope, Don Q, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Arm Circles.

Mosey to Tennis Courts. Triple check of Plerkins & run around tennis court. Then partner up for PLTs – 3 sets of 20 each.

Mosey down to the lake- 4 rounds of 20 Box Jumps/Derkins, run up hill to bridge, 3 Burpees.

Head back up hill alternating Lunges & Bear Crawl. Stop for 20 Derkins then back to flag for Mary- LBCS, American Hammers, Heels 2 Heaven. Finish with 10 Burpees.

NMS- The PAX this morning was all business. YHC arrived with Hardywood and Swirly having secured the AO. With 3 min to start and only us 3 there YHC knew we’d have to get after it to challenge this pax, especially when Sippy Cup came in. We knew it was on when Flipper arrived ON TIME with 1 minute to spare, and BT to make it an even 6.

The Plerkins were a great way to start. YHC learned that a planking BT can pass for a bench in a pinch. Dude was like a doing Derkins on a bench. Also in a pinch if you ever need a 160 BPM Metronome for some reason but don’t have one handy you can grab Swirly and start him on some PLTs.

The cold dew felt great when on the ground. Hardywood must have enjoyed it more rocking his signature Jerusalem Cruisers.

Mumblechatter was on Flipper posting in another town again. Apparently RVA brings it like no other, no taking the pedal off the gas this morning.

Sippy Cup crushed the hills, he says he isn’t 100% but could fool YHC. The Bear Crawl at the end was purely to boost YHC’S morale. A Flipper -Honeydo bear crawl combo in a ghost flag relay would be similar to the  2017 Golden State Warriors, just sayin.

Announcements – August challenge is 100 Miles, just in time for BRR!   Hardywood knows a guy if you are doing a breakfast meeting in the next few weeks. Also prayers for White Deer in his father’s passing last week.

  • When a triple check goes bad

18 strong, with 1 FNG and one relocated pax, came out to WDOG on a relatively cooler morning. Here is what went down:

COP – SSH, Merkins, Heels to heaven, Don Qs (or ridiculously slow Don Qs if you’re Viral), Russian Soldiers.

Partner up for Shoulder Presses:  20 Shoulder Presses then Wheelbarrow to center of circle, switch and Repeato.

Mosey down to bottom of Rugby for Triple Check to break in newly laid asphalt. Run, WWII situps, and Carolina Dry Docks.

Run down PumpHouse, stopping for 5 burpees each light until bottom of Love Hill. Head up Love Hill alternating Bear Crawl, Crab Walk, and run. Gather up at top for 25 Merkins then head back to flag. 3 min of Mary then 20 Merkins.

NMS- Things are as they should be- YHC saw Sippy Cup running to the AO in the Gloom. After the COP the Shoulder Press sets to start were not pretty. YHC admits his explanation was poorly done, YHC went to demo a shoulder press and instead we just got started. The PAX did figure it out eventually, except for BT & Viral. YHC had no idea what you 2 were doing but whatever it was, it is not legal in at least 15 states.

After that failure of YHC, it was followed up with another by calling for maybe the longest triple check ever. All were pleased when the audible to 2 rounds was called. Lots of good mumblechatter though from the PAX while on the ground waiting for the runners to return. Apparently WoJo had never done CDDs, which is ironic given his name. Plus we got to introduce WoJo to Bobo along the way down PumpHouse.

The crab/Duck/run combo up the hill was a blast and afterwards Flipper’s mind was racing with ideas about taking on Love Hill without running at all. Pax you’ve been warned.

Glad to have Circle K in the pax and get to pray with him in the COT. YHC will be at the visitation tonight and I know many pax will as well. TAP brother. Also Welcome Dexter!

  • The Jerkoff

Six strong shook of the Fartsack on a beautiful Tuesday morning. Here is what went down:

COP – SSH, Don Qs(slowed down for Loose Goose), Freddy Mercurys, Merkins, Russian Soldiers.

Mosey back to parking lot for Touch-a-Bus. 5 Buses, 5 Burpees at each Bus.  Mosey towards the Jerkins Gym, stop for 50 Bench Kicks, then time for main event –

The Jerkoff- 11s of Jerkins, run up heartbreak hill, WWII situps at the top.

Head back to benches for 50 more Bench Kicks, then back to Jerkin Gym for 2 sets of AMRAP Jerkins. Back to the flag for mary, Seymour took is out.

NMS- With the Home Run Derby at NOTOLL this morning, and YHC not a baseball fan nor much of a player, YHC opted for a more universal theme. The Jerkoff was a well received by the PAX, as who does not love a combination of Jerkins, 11s, and hills.

However the 11s did take a long time as the hills from the Jerkin Gym is a good distance. Flipper remarked this was the longest Jerkoff he’d ever experienced, way to soldier through. The only way to improve your endurance is practice…

Garbage Plate questioned the pointfulness of Bench Kicks, wondering aloud whether they were in fact Corporate approved. After the 2nd Set of 50 he became more appreciative.

Ronnie shared with YHC his thoughts of posting in Dallas recently, good to know F3RVA sets the bar high. Also good to learn Loose Goose is officially in for the BRR, we’ll have to do more of the heartbreak hill in the coming weeks.

Announcements – HDHH for Toga tomorrow at 6 at The Answer.

  • Super Sevens or Sweaty Sevens?

7 showed on 7/7 for a Rosie beatdown, including a 2.0 FNG. Here is what we did:

COP- SSH (just in time for McRib to do last 2), Imperial Walkers, LBCs, Merkins?

Mosey to field, start with Bear & Snake to get blood flowing, then on to the main event- Super 7s: 7 Burpees on one end of field, 7 Merkins & 7 Squats at other end of field. Repeato 7x’s.

Mosey to playground for 3 sets of: 7 Pull-ups and 7 Flutterkicks. Mosey to bus loop for Triple check of Box Jumps, Freddy Mercurys.

Mosey back to flag for some Mary, Ring of Fire, Honeydo took us out.

NMS – Solid Q from Rosie. Carabiner is YHC’S daughter, she enjoyed it although she said the Super 7s smoked her. The rest of the PAX agreed. Again the PAX could not have been nicer to her.

The Bear & Snake seems to be a knock off of the Human Centipede but you can never go with Bear Crawl. Mumblechatter focused mainly on the 2nd annual Home Run Derby.  Will Wedding Singer repeat? Will there be a Trophy this year?

Announcements – Home Run Derby is Tuesday at NoToll, but not at NoToll, see Pre-blast from Gumbo.

  • West Enders own Batteau

Three gentlemen from north of the James posted at Batteau on a brutally humid morning. Here is what went down:

COP – SSH, Merkins, Flutterkicks, DQs, Imperial Walkers.

Head to tennis courts- Polar bear to net, 5 Merkins then back, 5 Merkins. Repeato. Then Triple check of Elbow Planks, partner jumps over and back of planker, and run.

Mosey to playground- 4 sets of 6 Pull-ups. Mosey around the lake- take path down and around, stopping at lampposts to do either 5 Burpees, 10 Merkins, or 15 WWII situps. Msey back up to tennis courts. 5 min mary, then back to Pull-up bars for 3 more sets of 4.

Head down to run up full Forest Hill. 5 Burpees at top. Back to flag for more mary and 20 Merkins finish. Flipper took us out.

NMS – It is never good on the drive over to the AO when you have to turn your wipers on and it is NOT raining. The July humidity was in full effect making it a truly gloomy morning in the gloom.

With Swirly or Hardywood out of town, YHC began to worry he might be Solo until Flipper hauled in at 5:29. We ran around and then get Fudd in the COP.

The small numbers let the Pax get all the pull-ups they wanted on the playground. Flipper and Fudd both crushed them. On our mosey around the lake Fudd shared what fun he had being dragged at Dogpile.

At the end it was great to watch Flipper knock out the last Pull-up sets on his own. A true testament to getting stronger.

Announcements – 4th July Convergence at Dogpile at 6 am.

  • Taking advantage of Daylight

A Super Seventeen sauntered in to Wdog on a beautiful morning in the Gloom. With a Charlotte visitor the PAX took on parts of the AO we can only access at 5:30 on this longest day of the year:

COP – SSH , Merkins, Box Cutters, Freddy Mercurys, Imperial Walkers, Don Qs.

Mosey past pull-up bars, down Pipe loop hill for Pipe-Smoker loops- Run up Pipe loop to Pull-up bars, 10 Pull-ups, run down hill, 15 Burpees. Repeato 3 times.

Various exercises waiting for 6- Merkins, Lbcs, etc.

Mosey to Love Hill- mix of Bear Crawl and run back to the flag.

COT and Toga took us out.

NMS- Good to have Astrovan in town from CLT. Apparently Wilson in his Charlotte travels told him WDOG is the AO to hit on Wednesday.

YHC has wanted to try this pipe-smoker loop for a while and has been waiting for the longer days to try it out at WDOG over Dogpile. Partly because of the smaller PAX on the trail , but also at WDOG TYA would be in attendance to experience the hill trail fun.

Upon YHC’S explanation of the loops many of the Pax expressed dismay with YHC’S plan. Maybe that is a good sign? All YHC knows is Saab would have loved this had he not been injured. Plus this was great BRR practice so those doing the BRR you’re welcome…

The last set of Pull-ups saw another pay 2 play group doing their own COP near the Bars but they played nice and left us alone, maybe because the PAX looked so angry and unhappy by the 3rd loop. YHC had the “We’re done here” comment locked and loaded but went unused.

The 3 loops took much longer than anticipated so we just headed back. To allow for Saab to beat us back to the flag we added the Bear crawl up the hill to let him get a lead on the PAX.  You can thank him for that part.

Announcements – New F3RVA website is coming July 1. ALL PAX should post a BB or Comment to help Splinter track you down for the change over. Twocan is struggling with the commenting part, maybe the new RVA site can have a Swipe Right feature added, maybe pull up the Q list for each day’s AO options and you can swipe left or right to find your perfect daily beatdown match…

  • Dude, where are my keys?

A dirty dozen descended on Booker T. Washington park on a perfect June morning.  58 degrees and sunny skies greeted 3 RVA pax, we had 4 FNGs, a visitor from Greensboro, and 4 returning Cville Redwoods get after it:

Initial mosey across field for COP –  Disclaimer, Goodwill joined us on SSH, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Imperial Walkers, Helicopters. Mosey to basketball court.  Partner up for:

Wheelbarrow half way to mid court, 10 Derkins.  Switch partners and Wheelbarrow rest of court & 10 Derkins.  Repeato. 20 Merkins.

Mosey to field for Human Centipede: PAX lines up in elbow plank heels to head.  Last man broad jumps up and over to the front until last man is done.  20 more Merkins.

Wheelbarrow up the steps on the side of the hill facing Preston Ave.  Stop halfway to introduce Cville PAX to Partner Leg Tosses (PLTs).  3 sets each of 20 PLTs. Mosey to top of park grab a bench.  20 Dips and 10 Box Jumps on opposite side of field.  Crab Walk in between benches. Repeato x3.  Head to Center of the top field for some new Mary exercises for the Cville pax:  Hells 2 Heaven, Box Cutters, Freddy Mercurys.

Head to playground for Pull Ups.  2 sets each of 8 pull ups.  Head back down hill to bottom of Peanut Hill.  Run up hill twice.

Head over to Baseball field.  Introduce Donkey Kicks to PAX (knew that was coming) –  10 DKs, run length of outfield then 20 DKs.  Next 10 Mtn Climbers, run outfield, 20 Mtn Climbers.

Mosey to shady area for Honeymoon Suite:  Diamond Merkins, Alabama Prom Dates, Monkey Humpers, & Pickle Pounders.

COT – Lockjaw took us out.

NMS – In 1819 a redhead from The College in VA put his stamp on Charlottesville for the world to see.  YHC enjoyed the symbolism of trying to have history repeat itself 200 years later with a breakout week for the new Institution in town, F3.  And did Cville deliver with 4 FNGs and 4 returners.  All of which put in outstanding work.

Now to the backblast title: Apparently the PAX in Cville needs more basic instruction, like where to put your car keys when you arrive at the AO.  FNG Blister hid his up a tree with a carabiner.  FNG Goodwill left his keys (and phone) on the side of Preston Ave, hence his name.  Not to be outdone Speed Limit did one better by theorizing that if he cannot find his keys then neither could anyone else.  So upon arriving he threw his keys into a patch of thick gorse.

TPS was at the AO when the RVA clown car arrived.  Glad to see the word about F3Cville is spread to NC and YHC is sure more visitors will be visiting throughout the summer.  TPS started off the beatdown with mumblechatter about disclaimer timing and YHC was glad to have him liven up the gloom.  Glad you joined us this morning.

YHC wanted to focus on exercises not yet seen in Cville such as Wheelbarrow, PLTs, Box Cutters, etc.  YHC almost forgot to get Donkey Kicks in as there is a paucity of walls at the as of yet unnamed AO.  The outfield fence on the baseball field was not optimal but did the trick. YHC was glad to expose another site to the Honeymoon Suite and the “practice” was well received.

Kudos to FNG Goodwill for posting after hearing about F3 in Knoxville and bringing FNG Ash Lawn (go Tribe) along this morning.  FNGs Blister and Beast both crushed it in the gloom.

Bodos was a blast as we started to discuss weekday workouts and other growth options in the area. Speed Limit gave us a quick tour of the brewery Random Row across from Bodos.  Good to know the owner and head brewer (Beast) for any future HDHH’s in Cville.

Mumblechatter in the clown car back to RVA covered topics ranging from pool area altercations, marketing, and a website Upchuck somehow knows about that puts Tinder to shame.  I’ll not mention the web address for fear of what might happen to Twocan.

YHC was happy to deliver F3 Cville their new Shovelflag to Speed Limit.  The PAX will be in good hands next week with F3 Roanoke’s clown car coming to deliver a Star City beatdown.  YHC was remiss in forgetting to take a picture after the beatdown, apologies to Lab Rat.

Pleasure to lead this group of men this morning! It was worth the drive to see 8 strong in Cville post.  Silent Assassin signing off.

  • AMRAP and Plerkins

A lucky 21 came out to Mumford on a beautiful June morning. This is how it went down:

COP – SSH, Merkins, Box Cutters, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers.

Burpees up Westmoreland- Burpee at each tree up to Cary.

Head to field for AMRAP Laps- AMRAP of a named  exercise then run length of field. Exercises were Merkins, Heels to Heaven, CDDs, WWII situps, Merkins again, Flutterkicks, Tuck Jumps.

Burpees along Cary- Burpee for each tree. Lunge down Commonwealth to Tennis courts.

Go length of courts – Bear Crawl and Lunge, then Crab Walk and backwards run. then sprint the courts.

Triple Check- Plerkins and Run courts.

Mosey to Basketball courts for Mary- American Hammers, Box Cutters, Alabama Prom Dates.

Back to the flag. Viral took us out.

NMS – Great Pax this morning. Mumblechatter was reduced with TYA leaving after the COP. Hope you feel better.

Good to see some Kotters back at Mary including Pelosi 5.0 and fireman Ed. Viral was especially excited to have another Jets fan in the PAX, surely he will EH him into his local Jets-fan support group at some point.

Merkin count was roughly 145 or so, your mileage may vary. A good start for the June monthly challenge.

The Plerkins were a hit as always. They really are the perfect Triple Check pairing.

Announcements – Fudd’s Party, F3 Cville. BRR is 3 months away.

This is YHC’S 2nd 45Mom Q. Wanted to go back to where it all started for YHC 2 years ago this week. Here’s to many more with this great group of men.

  • One PAX follows instructions, the other PAX… has Swirly

28 strong Converged at the Belle Isle parking lot for a special Memorial Day beatdown. A great mix of Davillians, SOJ’ers, and West Enders all got after it.  Weather was 66 and sunny with ample humidity to get the PAX sweating.  Here is how it went down:

COP on Brown’s Island.  SSH, Merkins, LBCs, Don Qs, Helicopter.  Split up PAX into 2 groups.  Honeydo took the first group and Swirly had the 2nd group.

Pax 1:  Mosey back to parking lot.  3 Rounds of Donkey kicks at top of hill on the brick wall and Mtn climbers at the bottom, Start with 10 and increase by 10 up to 30 for each.  Pass Q to EF Hutton.  3 rounds of step ups on curbs for 1 min, between 10 Merkins at each corner of space.

Pass to Circle K for Jacobs Ladder.  Merkins from 1 to 7 up and down the hill towards North Bank trail.  McRib served up a Lazy Dora- 100 Merkins, 200 LBCs, 300 Squats.

Pass Q to Spit.  PAX goes to Belle Isle footbridge. Start at 5 WWII Situps, up to gate increase WWII count by 5, repeato up and back to 25.  Mosey back to parking lot.  Meet up with 2nd pax.

2nd PAX – Swirly took PAX to steps on Browns Island.  Dips and Derkins? up and down stairs.  Then Triple check, Burpee shuffle, Polar bears and WWII situps, steal YHC’s idea and do Donkey Kicks on brick wall.

Combined PAX meets up and runs up hill (Mountain) to Virginia War Memorial.  American Hammers and Ring of Fire.  COT moment of silence and back down the hill for Numberama and Nameorama.

NMS – YHC had been texting with Corporate last night to see about dividing the PAX depending on numbers who posted.  From there we were supposed to Hot Potato Q after we split at the COP.  YHC’s group kept the Hot Potato Q moving until the PAX met up to tackle the hill for the War Memorial.  Apparently Swirly was having too much fun serving up a beatdown to pass his Q on, to nobody’s surprise.

All the PAX were able to experience the Donkey Kicks on the brick wall.  Several PAX almost flipped over while trying to DK with their hands well below their feet.  Most found the preferred method was to grab a bunch of grass to keep their hands from slipping.

Many PAX were able to discover “goodies” while on the ground in the parking lot.  Glass, dead animals, and cigarette butts were found but the winner was a diaper.

Great to see 28 out with a lot of RVA regulars out of town this weekend.  When we did this last year Belle Isle we had 12 PAX.  Amazing to see how F3RVA continues to grow 3 years in.

Flatline swung by on his way to work.  Ironically his work attire of scrubs is more gloom appropriate than his normal attire when posting.  ETs was a blast as always with some interesting discussion of novel ways to stave off a bear attack.

Finishing up at the War Memorial is a small way to honor those who died in service of this wonderful country.  Be sure to remind your kids what this holiday is all about.

  • Is this Heaven? No, it’s Iowa

A Terrific Ten took to the illuminated fields of Heartbreak Ridge on a cloudy 64 degree morning.

COP under the lights- SSH, Imperial Walkers, Don Qs, Flutterkicks, Merkins.

Touch a light post. 2 at a time, Burpee at each light, increasing each one up to 8. Mary in between each round of 2.

Mosey to front of school for Lindsays. Derkins and Box Jumps. Increments of 5 from 30/10 to 10/30.

Mosey to Donkey Kick Wall for more Lindsays. Donkey Kicks and Mtn Climbers. After DKs Polar bear 5 times out for Mtn Climbers.  Back to baseball field for mary- Heels 2 Heaven, WWII situps, Alabama Prom Dates, ten finish with RoF.

Back to flag, YHC took us out.

NMS- YHC was prepared for low numbers and rainy conditions when the alarm sounded at 5:00. Instead we had 10 strong, no rain, and the baseball field lights shining bright as you drove in to the AO.

The PAX took advantage of the lights during the COP. Maybe the form police turned them on to observe from the trees.

Good to have Cake from Roanoke out. And it sounds like RVA will be seeing more of him as he will be in town a lot this summer. He put in solid work and represented the Star City well. You had many AO choices this morning, you choose wisely and are welcome back to Heartbreak Ridge any time.

YHC’s legs were still sore from Gumbo’s Box Jump ladder at Dogpile so why not do Lindsay box jumps, the Pax agreed. You know the PAX is smoked when Derkins are the easy part. Ronnie almost successfully flipped over the stone bench on his box jumps, which made YHC glad he did the initial disclaimer. Can’t have lawyers getting hurt in the gloom though.

The PAX finally got to break in the DKW. Some pax asked why pass up all the school walls to head over to that stand alone wall. We found out as the DKW is painted making Donkey Kicks much harder. Offshore appreciated the 45 WWII situps to make a small dent in the monthly challenge.

Loose Goose used up his 1 Gosling pass this morning and hopefully will be back next week.

YHC discovered after the beatdown that Malpractice, Seymour, and Garbage plate need site logins to get it on backblasts ( and start Q’ing) as they are Heartbreak Ridge regulars.

Lastly this new AO requires a lot of fence jumping, a truly functional skill. For those PAX who plan on hijinks and/or tomfoolery this upcoming summer it is a great place to practice your craft.
