  • Its a Crevasse Filled with Water

According to the dogs in the tron collars, the following may have happened. After admiring the morning darkness with light obscured by clouds, directions were simple and to the point. Batcave, across the river, and downstream. 4s turn at Oxford, 5s at Rockfall, and 6s at the quarry (or crevasse filled with water on the right).

    YHC took us out.

  • Philosophy Friday

Eighteen by ruck, run, or road bike surrendered to the moment of a perfect morning. Routes were perfectly curated to highlight some of the finest running roads in RVA. Some sections were new, some were well trodden, but all together exciting!

Announcements: The Bridge is coming up in October. Look for more info soon!

YHC took us out with deep thoughts about being in the moment between past and present.

  • All the Little Critters

17 of RVA’s finest launched into the cool morning promptly at 530. Covering distances and paces as desired by all. Little raccoons climbing trees by the lake. Rolling hills and pre-fall leaves hang from trees.

    OBT took us out.

  • Sunrise Over the River

Batcave to cross the river, head upstream, and come back the way you came.

    YHC took us out.

  • Out and Back

Bikers, ruckers, runners of all different distances and start times headed east for 22 minutes, north a block, west 22 minutes, and south a block.

  • Birth of the Slow Witted Hill Billy

With the departure of EF Hutton making a multi-stop summer tour, this group of six completed this week’s installment of First Watch.

Over to the church for COP. The pace and types of exercises were well received by the Pax, including a new unnamed exercise that was named by the Pax and serves as this back blast title.

Off to the back parking lot for 4-Corners, Tabata style. 30 seconds of one exercise, 30 seconds of another and mosey to another corner for four corners total for that set. Despite technical difficulties, we conquered the following:

Set 1 – Mountain Climbers and Merkins

Set 2 – Squats and APDs

Set 3 – Carolina Dry Docks and Box Cutters

Back to the flag for some Mary.

Coffee was great as always with Blue Moon and Fireman Ed.

  • Appropriate Punctuation

Equal parts runners and bikers, this crew covered miles in all directions. The runners explored the Wilton House territory with its mix of hills and straightaways.

TYA took us out with a message that we should reflect on weekly, if not daily. Let’s mark these chapters of life with ample punctuation to differentiate the passing of time.

A lucky 13 covered routes of 4, 5, and 6 miles all with one thing in common – heat, hills, and humidity.

    OBT took us out.

  • Hoedown Farmer’s Market

A lucky 11 welcomed a bright new week with this week’s installment of Hoedown. With a car alarm providing a 5 minute advance warning, the Pax gathered around to discuss life across various aspects. At 530, off to the teacher’s lot we went to warm up.

Helicopters, Don Q, Hill Billies, Dead Man Hang, Soldiers, and then dropping into various yoga moves – some static, others dynamic.

Down the road to Trinity where lined up and performed the following up the drop off line and around the back. 5 burpees, 10 HRMs, 25 squats, 50 mountain climbers, 75 LBCs, 100 flutter kicks. Once at this pinnacle, we worked our way down the ladder. Locomotion between sets consisted of bear crawls, lunge walks, crawl bears, and reverse lunges.

Around to the back for triple check. Run the loop of the parking lot, monkey humpers, and carolina dry docks.

Begin making our way back to the AO with a Lindsay – box cutters and APDs.

    Whitesnake took us out.

Thank you Last Call for opening up your harvest to us!

  • Odd Encounters

According to the interesting couple at the takeout with a frozen margarita bowl converted to a water tight stash for cigarette transport, the following may have happened.

After catching up with Pucker en route to the put-in, we launched and made our way up the river. It seems the cooler temperatures by the dam hydraulics attract all types of wildlife trying to cool off.

Slow paddle mosey down river with a coolish breeze added to a spectacular time out. Others on the river seemed to be enjoying kayaking and fishing, with a few bites waiting for the big one.

Upchuck made friends at the take out and picked up some new jargon.

Next week, 6:30 pm. See you there.
