Numbers / Names DTH took us out

    NMS:

The extroverts of the PAX could not contain their socially distant selves when they saw DTH for the first time in what seems like forever, a hug or two was had and only the names have been changed to protect the guilty. Cooper apparently has no boundaries and will get in your social box whenever he feels like it. YHC knew it would be a fair amount of run today but wanted to explore some new areas of the AO. YHC would also like to cross the street to the old Toys-R-Us parking lot but that adds a good bit of run and less workout to the mix.

  • 5+2 (2.0s) equals 7

A hearty crew of five with two 2.0s welcomed another beautiful day at Heartbreak Ridge. Here’s how it went down:

    SSH

    Imperial walkers

    Arm circles

    Don Quixote

    Merkins

    Holly Dollys

    LBCs

Next, mosey to the track-side pull up bar. Each man does pullups while the pax does incline merkins.

Quick saunter to the track for four corners. First corner 5 burpees, 2nd corner 10 merkins, then 15 jump squats and finally 20 two-count mountain climbers.

    Reapeto – except increase reps to 10, 20, 30 and 40.

Mosey to the other side of the school. First – wall sits and balls to the wall. Then it was time to smoke some poles. The 2.0s needed a bit more instruction on these. Pax holds 6″ while each man takes a turn with 5 pole smokers.

Mosey back to the track for a triple check on the hill. SSH and LBCs while the third guy runs the hill.

Upon request, we did 3 reps of 8 at the jerkin gym. Back to the flag for some quick merkins, flutter kicks and a few SSH to run out the clock.

Numberama, nameorama and the Q took us out.

  • St Elmo’s Fired Up

Today is the Feast day of St Elmo, patron saint of sailors and abdominal pain. 8 holy pilgrims joined to celebrate his life.

    St Elmo, back
    in the day.

St Elmo’s Fire — Play ye olde song from back in the 80’s — during the verse, crush some LBC’s, during the chorus spell the words “St Elmo’s Fire” with your legs. During the bridge hold 6 inches.

COP — Imperial Walkers, SSH, Copperhead Squats

Time for some history — St Elmo was alive in the late 200’s and was martyred in 303 right before TYA was born. St Elmo was recognized as one of the 14 holy helpers whose intercession was said to have been particularly effective, especially in healing diseases. Do 1 WW2 at the first island. Do 2 at the next island until we reach 14.

Elmo’s life was filled with persecution as bishop of Formia, Italy. Many emperors tried to snuff out his life but did not succeed. The persecution was so intense at one point that he had to flee his home church and hide out for 7 years! In honor, the PAX army crawled the football field and did 7 Freddie Mercuries every 10 seconds or so. Repeated that 7 times.

St Elmo was baptizing converts to the faith — that made Emperor Maximinian so angry that he put Elmo in a barrel full of protruding spikes and rolled him down a hill. An angel miraculously healed Elmo. To commemorate that occasion, the PAX did 11’s. Bear crawl down the hill (no rolling), do 1 Heels to Heaven at the bottom. run to the top after being healed and do 10 V-ups. Finish the sequence.

Italian run back to the flag.

    Numbers, Names, Announcements

YHC loves a themed workout — upon seeing that today was St Elmo’s feast day and that he was the patron saint of abdominal pain, YHC knew a theme had to happen. Nice meeting Dark Web (didn’t know he really existed) and good seeing Scrum out today after a long hiatus. Trout, glad you made it out today — hoping your back returns to normal soon. Fun working out with you gentlemen this morning!

  • El Duderino

Dirty Dozen descended upon UR for the often used, but newly anointed “El Duderino” route. (See instructions from prior week below….)

Announcements: Thoughts go to out to EF Hutton’s dad who is undergoing abdominal surgery today.

    Saab abides

  • Tabata 10 at Punisher

YHC was excited for a true sunny and 70 evening at Punisher and 73 degrees with minimal humidity, it was perfect for the Tabata 10! Here is what went down:

That was a wrap for the work out and we discussed the current rioting in Richmond, EF Hutton’s dad is undergoing surgery tomorrow (June 2) and how our kids are growing up fast with some quality family time from the COVID-19 shelter in place mandate from the State of VA.

YHC took the group out in Prayer.

Great to see Chum Bucket and EF Hutton as it has been awhile for YHC. Always an honor to lead and hope to see you in the gloom…Cheers, CB

  • Hot Wheels and Spare Change

A guideline-friendly ten made it out for Saturday’s GridIron. Warmup in the parking lot with 25 x SSHs, 15 x Helicopters, 15 x Don Quixotes, 15 x Imperial Walkers, 10 x Suzanne Somers (each side), and 15 x Arm Circles (small only, both ways).

Mosey across the wooden bridge into the park and halt at the hill. Complete three Burpees followed by a Crawl Bear for ten hand placements and a Bear Crawl back. Pause briefly for everyone to finish round one and begin round two. Repeato for ten rounds.

Jog around the pickleball courts and through the treeline to the Striker Park parking lot. Divide into groups for chest, leg, and core exercises utilizing the vacant parking spaces. First group completes two Merkins per parking space working south to north. Second group moves in the same direction in the next parking column, but completes two Squats. Third group completes two WWII Sit Ups per space. Pause at the far end until other groups are done, then work back, completing one of the other exercises. Head back across the lot again, completing the final exercise. Round 1 done. Round 2 – same set-up, but with two per space of Close Grip Merkins, Curtsy Lunges, and Box Cutters. Orange toy car found placed on the end stripe of parking column 3 – if you know who lost it. No coins found, to my knowledge.

Return to the parking lot for COT and Attila took us out. Parking lot coffee afterwards adjacent to Einstein’s Short Pump.

  • Solo OG

Back to the original River Run route, finishing down Twin Team for a solid 5.0. See you next week.

  • A Familiar Loop

4 Davillians came out to enjoy a cool start to June with a morning run. The loop was through Giles, Giles Farm, Craney Island, then loop back for around 5 miles

Colonial 70 training is now in full swing. Opus has a great game plan by following the Garmin half marathon training. After he completed 8 miles yesterday he still came out and ran half of the time. T-Claps brother!

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Sure, why not!!!

With a slight chill in the air, 9 red hot warriors gathered in the Gloom to form what resembles a PAX at Hoedown. With no Q on the sheet someone suggested that we make it a Doozy Q and YHC was willing to oblige.

With no plan of attack lets mosey to get us going, on to Bodos place (Bodos was nowhere to be found)

DQ’s, Helicopters, Cherry Pickers, Imperial Walkers, 1 penalty burpee OYO for Doozy’s mistake, possibly some other things but I can’t remember.

Mosey to the playground, triple check

Partner 1 – merkins with feet on the wall (balls to the wall style but not quite a chicken pecker), partner 2 – dips, partner 3 run to the monkey bars 5 pull ups and return (X3)

Numbers / names Greenbow took us out

    NMS:

YHC had thoughts of Q’ing every day this week but had not signed up for this morning. When arriving at Hoedown and the opportunity to Q was thrown out there YHC thought it must be divine intervention or at least a happy coincidence, so a Doozy Q it is. Once YHC returned home to sign up for the Q the rest of the week he found that the return of DTH will be at the Forge on Thursday so a full week of Doozy Q’s it will not be but YHC will not miss the Forge and the return of the man, the mith, the legend that is Dr. Try Hard.
