  • The Crucible Welcomes a Visitor

Fireman Ed and YHC took a clown car to Crucible. Stopped by THP, but it looked like a deep clean in progress and no takers. Over to Blackwell and with two PAX, YHC called a run.

The Thang: Floodwall to Mayo Bridge to Pipeline Trail to Brown’s Island past the Crab Festival, across T Pott and back to Blackwell.

Thanks to Fireman Ed for visiting The Crucible. YHC enjoyed the mumblechatter. Congratulations to Flintstone on his half marathon performance today.

  • Your Shuffling Sucks

5 HIM’s posted to The Creek this morning, which included one FNG. All HIM’s soon realized why Boo Boo doesn’t play cards as his shuffling leads to some awkward face card stacking of the deck…

Warm-O-Rama: Quick mosey to the flag poles. COP – various light stretches, 10 each: SSH, Merkins, Squats, LBC’s, Hello Dolly’s, & Flutter Kicks

The Thang: Deck of Death: Spades = Squats; Hearts = Step-Ups; Diamonds = Merkins; Clubs = LBC’s; Joker = Burpees x10.

YHC took us out in prayer.

    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS:  This is YHC’s third time to The Mountain for the annual Windy Gap men’s retreat, and we’ve had F3 workouts each year. This year YHC thought ahead to make and put up a few fliers on the mess hall and meeting hall doors, and we definitely had some new takers today! Turned out to be a little more of a tough grind than YHC had anticipated leading, but the men stuck with it and crushed the beatdown with a whole lot of grit and very little chatter. The quiet moments weren’t left vacant however, as YHC filled the many FNG’s in with all the essential F3 truths. Today the PAX chose to embrace something truly challenging and revitalizing, and YHC prays it has lifted up their spirits to receive new revelation and respite in the presence of Jesus and brothers bearing His name. We’ll just have to wait and see how many repeat offenders tomorrow brings. All for Jesus, DTH

  • Not a solo Murph

A lone car sat in the parking lot with the PAX inside wondering if he would still complete the Murph if no one else showed up. Fortunately (or not) a fellow SOJer showed up to join in the fun. Kids and business growth were on the agenda for mumblechatter on the run and limited to painful groans during the pullups, merkins, and squats. All 10 rounds complete and better for it.

Lots on the agenda for the coming weeks. Check slack or ask around for details.

  • Drag show

A big 17 solid SOJ HIMS posted to SH this morning to enjoy the 72 degree and sunny day. Snuff came to punch his passport and a few other non regulars. After an interrogation on who signed up Satan’s Hill for the Iron Pax away we went. According to the dog walkers here is what happened.

**The events described here are based on true events.  Some of the names, places and exercises may have been changed to protect the innocent.  This was also modified to fit your screen.

Quick mosey down the hill and back to start.  COP- 20 each SSH, LBC; 10 Each, Jazzercise, Helicopters, Imperial Walkers, Ukrainian Soldiers, Copper head squat, Dead man hang, Merkins, Flutter kicks.

The thang: Grab a partner. Odd numbers so I partnered with myself and it was the best group I have ever been in. Stations in a circle with 1 tandem running (1 runner with sled in tow to bottom of lot, the other up SH). First runner back is timer. Stations were: With Coupons: Overhead press, triceps, curls, swings, squats, w/o coupon: SSH, Lunges, Toe taps. Cycle through all stations. The 2nd cycle running due both went to bottom of lot with sled, 1 pulled down and 1 pulled up. Just shy of completing 2 cycles this way but time was called.

Announcements: Pickleball, you know when and where. Check slack for all.

YHC took us out in prayer.

Always great to lead and try something new. Make today Awesome.

  • 78 Is Just a Bit Warm

When I turned the car on after the workout this morning the themometer read “85”…at 6:35am in the morning. 85. Now, there’s some variance on that temperature, when I turn it on in the middle of the afternoon it can read 105 and then it quickly drops, but still.

Eventually the temperature, on the way home, dropped to 78, but stil…

Just going to be transparent here as someone who has logged my fair share of workouts, both boot camps and runs…you dudes can have 78 degrees in the summer. Count me out. Call me whatever you want to call me, I’ll gladly wear it, and I’ll gladly find something else to do on mornings where it’s over 75.

I’ll miss you those mornings, I really will. And I’ll see you when it’s 3 degrees (or more) cooler.

    The Thang…

This was your basic UofR to Hillcrest in the City run. It’s fun to cross the county lines, in my opinion. That’s a unique part of Spider Run…you can truly get to, what, three different municipalities from the launching point at the UofR commons? You can get across the river into Chesterfield (right? Or is that a bit more down Huguenot road?) and then into the city, and obviously Henrico.

For this morning, we shot out of UofR, up Towana, south on Three Chopt to Grove. Grove to Oak and then Oak to Hillcrest. From there you were out and back depending on what your watch said. The 6s got a couple of loops of Hillcrest in, for what it’s worth.

    But still…78…just too darn hot.

  • We Should EH That Runner

3 Davillian Runners and 1 easy EHed runner, enjoyed fall like morning for another Davillian run day.

Route – Revise traditional route with running the Cool Spring West loop (on the road), Knollwood, and returning via the Rutland loop for 4+ miles (depending on your GPS)

What started as 3 runners became 4 about after the first 1.25 miles when the PAX was heading to the Knollwood loop with a head lamp heading to us which drawled the question “We should EH that guy!”. Turns out that was easy since it was Phonics who was a LIFO and started his run the traditional way.

ANNOUNCEMENTS – Good Luck to those in the Pickleball Tourney this Saturday. Go Team Daville (Corned Beef/Bulkhead)

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Trash can or bench?

You be the judge. YHC had one ticket to punch on his passport and went up north of the wall to the friendly confines of 45MOM. Last weeks Circus nearly had my passport revoked due to calling for a Mosey. 7 total HIMS, with 3 walkers and 4 boot campers. According to the substitute teacher arrived (way too early), here is what happened. With no Q on the sheet, this was a Quad Hot Potato. Prayers to Swirly’s Mom.

YHC took us out in prayer. Great to connect with the OG’s at 45MOM!

Numberama and Namerama, YHC took us out in prayer. Look at Slack for the Pickleball update, Labor Day Convergence and a 2.0 workout (Babies and M’s Also) on September 2.

So YHC was watching everyone drive in big trucks and SUV’s for this workout and had to laugh as it was starting to feel like a project site and we were gathering to build something. I continue to be amazed with the newer men posting and some of the veterans also still working out and keeping up with the younger energy. It is inspirational and an honor to lead such a group this morning. Have a great day, gents and I will see you in the Gloom Soon! Cheers….CB!
