  • AMRAP Day

Spring is here.  Pollen and humidity greeted those stuck in town this week.  With KBs in hand, here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • Dead man hang
      • Merkins
      • LBC
    • AMRAP challenge – 5 exercises, 30 seconds for as many reps as possible followed by a rest of 20 seconds between exercises for the 1st cycle, 15 on the next, 10 on the 3rd and 5 on the final cycle
      • High pulls
      • Curls
      • Tricep press
      • Squats
      • Halos
    • Run the bus loop
    • 2nd AMRAP challenge
      • Skull crushers
      • Sit ‘n presses
      • Bench presses
      • Overhead pulls
      • KB hammers
    • COT

Welcome back White Deer!  Today was a White Deer friendly Q with limited to no movement.  Also, great to have Pyro with us from Jacksonville.  Solid work from all of the PAX today.  Plenty of fellowship and KB reps in those AMRAPs.  YHC has been consistent this week, high reps and a disgruntled and sore PAX.

God is good all of the time!

  • Space Ghost Coast to Coast

4 Stallions whose kids Spring Break plans have been filled with camps and cartoons got up and attacked the Gloom head on this morning. With a lot of our brothers out of town for the week, YHC had a feeling the attendance would be light which gave the opportunity to test some new variations of standard exercises. According to the Janitor patrolling the halls of Tomahawk Middle, here is what went down.

    COP –

Mosey around the Parking lot and back to center, circle up.

    • SSH, Imp Walkers, Ukr Soldiers, Arm Circles small/big, Butt kickers, Calf Raises, DQ, Merkins, LH to RH high variations (5 count each side), LBC, Flutter kicks, Box cutters, Scorpion Kicks, on your feet

Thang 1 – The idea here was to try a standard workout with different variations to target muscle groups slightly different. Boy did it. Partner up and do 2 circuits.

    • Partner 1 runs to far light pole
    • P2 does variation of exercises on either bench or wall.
    • Exercise 1 – Pike Press Merkins
    • Exercise 2 – Incline Tricep extensions. (Lean on bench, elbows tucked, bring head down below hands and press up with triceps
    • Exercise 3 – Bench or wall jumps (think box jump but on bench or wall)

Thang 2 – Mosey to Love hill for 11’s up the hill

    • Exercise at the top, double count ball dippers
    • Exercise at the bottom, squat jumps

Thang 3 – Circuit 2. Plan was to go island to island for a 3 hour tour, but some giant dumpsters got moved in front of treasure island, so we made a pivot to Space Ghost Coast to Coast (one side of parking lot to the other) made for some brief mumblechatter between the heavy breathing. Partner up again for 3 circuits.

    • P1 runs to the other side of the parking lot and back
    • P2 completes incline curb merkins, calf raises, and curb dips.

Thang 4 – 20 Calf raises on the curb OYO. Standard, toes in, and toes out.

Mosey back to flag and do progressive burpees on the way home at every lit light pole. Made it up to 4 and it was time.

Great work today fellas. It was a standard workout with a twist, and this one had me breathing a little deeper and hitting the muscles a little different. Way to put in the work!

    Announcements-

    • See slack for CPR classes, 2 spots left for each time slot.
    • Conversation on EH of our brothers that have remained out. Winter is gone, and today was a crisp 70. Time to work on getting our guys back out for the Spring/Summer/Fall routines. Discussed having deeper conversation at our next monthly SOJ meeting. Would love to see some of you there.

As always, make it a great one fellas. Iron sharpens Iron.

  • Bojangling Solo

One Davillians made sure the AO was secured and got in some mile this morning

YHC decided to scrap the route and do mile repeats on the Bojangles loop.

finished with 3 loops just over 3 miles

    Spit On That

  • Sunrise Sweatfest, Party of 12

F3 PNG’s one and only and still unofficial AO “Ground Zero” is rapidly accumulating FNG’s of the 2.0 variety. Unlike other 3rd world sweatshops utilizing child manual labor, this one is voluntary and free and ends with a COT. A few adults corralled the gaggle of a 9 umpa lumpas into completing a variety of warm-up exercises, running down and up the gravel hill with various movements, plenty of mary, running around the nursing college, carousel plank walking, a mini-Dora on the field, a solid dose of wall-work, and variable chain reps. We welcomed an Australian friend nicknamed “Kanga”, a shirtless little brother of Mojang nicknamed “Sixpack”, and the Stewardson girls nicknamed “Narwhal” and “Athena”. A great time was had by all and we closed with a solid word of prayer for the mission work ahead of us for the day. Interesting to see how this thing is growing, and always happy for the company – no matter who it is. 🙂 Yours in the Field, DTH

  • Rise and Shine Run

So with Spring Break in full swing this morning YHC decided to get this to be a 1st and 2nd F event. Five brothers posted this am for a run and ruck walk and here is what went down:

Yardsale and YHC did a lap around the schools at a ruck walk pace and this took about 27 minutes (2 miles). Hash, Mr Holland and Tonka ran to the gate to Kings Charter and back for 3.5 miles and we circle up at 6am for COT.

Next we all drive over to Rise and Shine for an early morning 2nd F to have breakfast and great conversation. We were all happy to get both activities in this nice morning with a full moon and great weather.

Great to see everyone, have a great day gents..Cheers…CB!

  • DaVille 3 on April 3

So 3 men posted this morning to take on April fools’ day and here is what went down:

    THANG

With 3 on site today we start with a Triple check. P1 – Runs lap as the timer, P2 – Step ups, P3 – Dips. We rotate where P1 – Step ups, P2 – Dips and P3 Runs Lap and finally for the first set P3 – Step ups, P1 – Dips and P2 runs lap as the timer. We do 2 more rotations only we do incline merkins instead of dips.

After this triple check we mosey to basketball court for a 2nd triple check with P1 – Running a suicide on the BBall court as the timer, P2 – hang from pull up bar and lift legs to chest, P3 – Alternating lunges. We rotate as above for one set and the perform 2 more sets for a triple check.

Next we break out the jump ropes. We all go for 30 in a row without a miss. Done, then 40 in a row without a miss. Done, and 50 in a row with out a miss. We were able to do all three sets and no-one had to start over.

Mosey back to flag for numberama, namerama. YHC took us out in prayer.

Great workout this morning gents, see you in the gloom soon, Cheers…CB!

  • Senior Discount

Five of us ran 3.7 miles today exploring Wellesley. Pyro was downrange from Jax and was amazed by Pigskin. But it was Lighthouse who told the story of getting a Senior discount at Einstein Bagels.

Besides running and warmups, we did sets of LBCs & Heals to Heaven in a culdesac & some sets of dips and incline merkins at the romantic gazebo (no fancy cocktails included).

A little more running than normal and the only complaints were from Blue Moon’s “good” knee.

Nice to have a guest today. Pyro had met some of you but it sounds like it has been a couple years.

  • Spring has Sprung

Four semi-regulars not on Spring Break showed up ready to inhale some pollen and enjoy the warmth of the new season. YHC arrived at 5:30 on the nose and this is how it went down.

    WARM-A-RAMA:

Mosey to the Amphitheater, make a half loop and square up in the grass for warm-a-rama.

Bootleg takes us through SSH, Helicopters, Don Quixote, Imperial Walkers, Copperhead Squats, LBC, APDs.

    THANG:

Proceed to the bottom of the Amphitheater steps for ascending merkins back to the top (1-18 reps). Turn around and descend and perform WW2 x 5 at each step. Pass to Swirly.

Mosey to Penny Theater for Block Work. Perform exercise, run to the light near the Carillon then return to block. Exercises were:

    Block Burpees x 5

    Curls x 10

    Squats x 10

    Overhead press x 10

    Block bench x 10

Return blocks to stage and pass to Slippin Jimmy.

Mosey back to the Amphitheater for stage exercises. 3 PAX perform exercise with 1 PAX running the perimeter as the timer. Exercises were boxing cockroach (2 PAX) and Carolina DD. Once complete, return to VSF for brief ab-a-rama.

BT finishes out with leg lifts x 10 (each leg) and inverted plank leg lifts x 10 (each leg).

    COT:

Slippin Jimmy took us out and reminds the PAX to be present and take advantage of every moment we have with our loved ones.

    NMS:

A small but determined crew showed to hold down the fort while Spring Breakers and new fathers are away. The weather is definitely getting warmer and it won’t be long until we are soaking with sweat before the post even starts. YHC is still relatively broken but happy to be able to get out and at least participate, even if it means doing ab work in the pollen-dusted weeds that will soon be a foot tall in the friendly confines of the amphitheater. Mumble chatter was relatively light and consisted mostly of talk of travel. Safe travels to Bootleg (Missouri) and Slippin Jimmy (the House of the Mouse) as they take off this weekend, and to those already on the road enjoying a respite with friends and family. Swirly and YHC will stay local and be looking for a comfy couch to watch the Masters. BT OUT!

  • How to kill a robin

SOT or MOT? Of all the PAX hanging out at Midlo Middle at 530am, three decided to hit the streets for a run. Down Mt. Midlo, up the Grove hill, down Manders, back up Woolridge to Charter Colony, and finally back to MMS. Mileage was just under 5 this morning and with a few minutes to spare, we joined up with the SOT PAX for some alphabet tracers.

Numbers, names with the SOT PAX. Honeymoon took us out.

    Announcements:

-SOJ happy hour, 5:30/6ish, 4/14 at Diamond Billiards

-CSAUP coming in early May….details to come from Gomer

NMS: Rosetta has recently been dealing with a robin at his house that crashes into a window multiple times a day and craps all over the place. His simple question for YHC and Honeymoon was “how do I deal with that?”. Honeymoon didn’t hesitate to respond that the best thing to do is “kill the mother f____er”.

Safe travels for Rosetta and his M as they head to Mexico next week. First time they’ve been on a 7-day vacation together (without the 2.0s) in 10 years. Let’s see if they both make it back.

  • Special Operators, Albeit in Training

Seven night stalkers moved further, faster, and fought harder in the latest edition of First Watch. Conditions were 70 and sunny. According to their leader hiding in the bushes, the following might possibly have happened:

Mosey from the parking lot to the back of RRC, Baptist.

Whoa – on coming car split the PAX. Leader in front on one side of the road, six PAX on the other. Q proceeded to perform one burpee at each speed hump. Meanwhile, being mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight, the PAX determined to catch up, or, failing that, attempt a mutiny: the oft-mentioned, but rarely attempted, “We’ll just stop running and see whether the Q noticed.” Well aware of their shenanigans, YHC moseyed to the next corner in the parking lot, veered left, and took refuge in the bushes. After some time, along came a walking PAX of six, wondering aloud how 215 pounds of Manhood had disappeared into The Gloom. Boom – trap sprung. The predators becoming the prey.

Mosey back to the front of RRC, Baptist, for the COP

SSHs, DQs, IWs, reverse crunches, WWIIs, HRMs…and mosey 5 feet west to the steps.

Dora 100-200-300, with a twist. Grab a partner.

Partner 1: Run to the bush on River Road.

    Partner 2: Exercises. 100 derkins, 200 four-count flutter kicks, and 300 SSHs.

Twist: each time the partners switch, perform 5 Boo-Yah mercans. Harder than it sounds, but the PAX showed the world that they are specially selected and well-trained.

Mosey to the back of RRC, Baptist for Elevens. Much discussion of the best method for achieving the objective. YHC enjoys feedback. Frankly, YHC deserved some after an exceptionally poorly laid out exercise. Adapt. Overcome. But, always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and esprit de corps of the group.

WWIIs and snow angels. Bernie Sanders up the incline in the parking lot. Run back down. Better training. Fight with all your might. Give it 100 percent and then some. Under no circumstances embarrass yourself.

Slow mosey back through the parking lot. 5 LBCs at every handicapped space, totaling about 30 LBCs and 5 WWIIs on the last space.

Burpees at each speed hump on the way BTTVSF. Numbers, names, and Handshake took us out.

NMS: World’s longest triple check May 6 at Godwin. Boot camp, ruck, and run in circles. Find some teammates and one injured dude. Gomer has the details.

Good chatter today. YHC needed some good laughs, and the PAX delivered. Coffeeteria hit the spot, albeit at 6 a.m.

    UpChuck spits the bit.
