  • The Crucible is awakened

19 Redwoods posted for the first version of the Crucible. This is what transpired.

The Thang: Mosey to field. 20 SSH, 10 Don Quixotes, 10 Helicopters, 20 Lbc, 20 imperial walkers, 20 Merkins. Mosey to stands near football field. Lindseys with jump squats and WWII setups. Mosey to field near road. Triple Check. Box Cutters, merkins, run to other side and bernie sanders back. Mosey to pole in the corner of field and perform a different exercise at each pole. COT and TYA took us out.

NMM: This AO and workout has been a long time coming. Lots of chatter about starting something near the Healing Place for sometime and August 6, 2022 was the day it was meant to start. Steamy morning out there, but the AO has a lot to offer. Thanks to all the men that had a hand in getting this AO started. Particular thanks to Shakedown for connecting with the leadership at the Healing Place and making this happen. F3 has had a strong presence with this group for sometime, I am glad we now have a F3 driven workout there every Saturday.

YHC thought that he would have to take it easy from a workout perspective, thinking that there would be some folks that might not be in bootcamp shape. I could not have been more wrong about that. The three folks from THP were in great shape and looked like they were ready to roll from the beginning. Extra Credit earned his name in the first group of exercises when Shakedown and Anthrax realized he was doing 2x the number of reps. He said he wasn’t sure how many, but did not want to do less than was called. So by the time the COT happened, his name had already stuck. Sometimes names come easy, sometimes it is difficult. Our second FNG had run several quarries in his career. Despite lots of other good content to chose from a half dozen people shouted Flintstone simultaneously. Rocket man was the third THP participant. He had participated in F3 in Raleigh previously, so he had already been named.

This AO is going to be a special place. You could feel the excitement and energy in the air before, during and after the workout. When you post at a workout, you are guaranteed to get the first F. If you want it, you can get the 2nd F. It is a special thing when all three things are present at one AO. Check out the Crucible when you have a chance. All three are there in abundance.

    TYA OUT

  • She Can’t Unsee That

Eight fleet-of-foot took off rapidly into the soupy morning.Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the Trail Mermaid, the following may have happened.

    North Bank, T-Pott, South Bank.

    Announcements: none were made.

    NMS:

Seven faced obstacles while one progressed unhindered along the roads. Not more than 200 yards into the run, the group of 7 faced a climbing obstacle in the form of a “tree down.” This prompted a discussion of “How many fallen trees do we expect to come upon?” Vegas put the odds at an ever-moving line of 3, perhaps 3.5, albeit with an on-going discussion of the precise definition of what constituted a tree that has fallen:

    Rules, as of now:

    1. Tree must have fallen recently, and,
    2. Tree must be blocking the full trail. Partially blocking does not count.
    3. Tree must present an obstacle to the runner, thus resulting in the runner breaking stride. Example: running under a fallen tree at normal speed does not constitute a fallen tree. There were several of these.
    4. Trees which had fallen near the trail do not count.

TYA noted that it was unlikely that, regardless of the size of the tree, his pace would be slowed. Quite possibly, his pace is that slow. Chippendale noted that, at the pace UpChuck/Offshore ran, there was merit to asking whether we had stopped to swim. No offense intended, but quite funny.

Prayers: for TYA, who has been suffering a sustained case of writer’s block since November, 2021. YHC offered to step in today to help a Brother out.

T&Ps, brother. Hope it clears up soon.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • Do not mess with Oyster’s Dogpile

Eight RVA pax came out to Dogpile to see what a guest Q would look like. Chewy from Carpex took us to the traditional COP circle but told us to get ready for a Tabata station beatdown. 1 minute per station then 2 loops around the circle in the down minute then on to the next station. Stations were: KB swings, benchpress, skull crushers, merkins, lunge, WWIIs, curls.

50 minutes of this and then mosey back after a few burpees. COT and Chewy took us out.

NMS: Oyster came in hot with some strong feelings about the Qs plan. To be fair to Oyster Dogpile is the crown jewel of RVA and the new MDPFA movement is building momentum.

Chewy took it in stride, saying this is his thing. He does this Tabata Q on all his Qs. What is up with bald guys loving tabata and 90s metal (sorry Toga) but it turned out to be a challenging beatdown. Welcome FNG Madison County. Hardywood and Flatline were fans of the new name. Madison Co was EH’d by Chewy while he was in town.

Out of the blue and into the black

You pay for this, but they give you that

And once you’re gone, you can’t come back

When you’re out of the blue and into the black.

  • What if we go to the right?

For the 5 pax present to launch at the regularly scheduled time QIC wanted to explore a different turn off a familiar route. What’s to the right on Douglasdale? Hills and a guard post is the answer.

The route: Commonwealth across Cary to Berkshire bear right as it becomes Sulgrave. Left on Marston to Gun Club. Right Queen Charlotte. Right Portland to Douglasdale. 4 milers turn back at Douglasdale. Route continues RIGHT on Douglasdale. Right on Loch Lomond Ct cul-de-sac and right on Douglasdale again. Down the hill to say hi to the guard at the post before the quarry. Back up Douglasdale to Right on Loch Lomond Lane cul-de-sac back to right on Douglasdale. 5 milers return route left on Portland. 6 milers (none today) right on Portland to right on Rothesay Circle. Follow the circle around including the short spur and join back with Portland. Return to base the way you got there.

4 milers apparently got off track and missed Sulgrave. As for the 4+ contingent, Chippendale groaned when QIC reinforced the “Right turn on Douglasdale” which takes you down a hill to the guard shack at the gate of the quarry. Loch Lomond Ct and Lane each go up and over steep hills to add some distance.

There were no 6 milers today to confirm but QIC drove Rothesay Circle early to make sure it was a good idea and it’s a nice secluded residential loop.

All in all it’s a nice route providing a flat start and finish with some hill work in the middle.

Early group appears to have done some laps on Hillcrest and worked up a suitable sweat.

    Good work men!

Announcements: Shakedown is starting a new AO near Blackwell Elementary and The Healing Place in Manchester 8/6. TYA is your inaugural Q. Consider it for your Saturday posting options!

  • History and a One trick pony

6 gents showed up at Satans Hill, Duke had the Q but Rosco called the shots

COP – Helicopters, SSHs, Squats, LBCs, FLutters, and lunges up the hill

Rosco called the Q a one trick pony so, well, we did one thing, and listened to Rosco talk about history, which may or may not be true.

Hill repeats throughout the hood with WWIIs at every stop, totaling about 250 WWIIs.

5 Minutes left, Quick hallelujah walk with a coupon to finish, oh and 30 seconds left, 10 more WWIIs.

Numbers, Names, YHC took us out.
