NMS – It was a great day to make the trip to Daville and to see a new AO and meet some different Pax members. YHC has enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the Tuckahoe Takeover.

  • Two years of band of brothers at Currahee!

12 mighty warriors beat the fart sack for a nice spring run.

Of course, the Pax found their own routes. The published routes look line this

    5mi Route
    4mi Route

YHC took us out Prayers for LabRat and Whitesnake’s pal Ryan

Memorial Dat convergence at Browns Island 7a.

NMS- Thanks for supporting 2 years at Currahee! Some pax are still pining for more sightings of local flora and fauna- saw some bunnies today but not much else. The Deep Run and Brookmont route is a decent test. Good hills along the way and always at the right time for training.

Thanks to all who came out!

Much has happened in the two years since we started this AO. The original Currahee post describes where we got the name:

Currahee Mountain | Official Georgia Tourism & Travel ...
    Currahee mountain in Georgia

Currahee is a Cherokee word translated “stand alone”. It is the name of a mountain outside of Camp Tocooa, Georgia where E company 101 was established and became their motto. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_Company,506th_Infantry_Regiment(United_States)

Distinctive unit insignia of the 506th Infantry Regiment (United States).svg
    DUI for 506th Infantry Regiment

The lore of the mountain run is “three miles up and three miles back” – much like F3 endeavor. The formation of this unit is pretty well documented in the Band of Brothers episode 1 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1245384/ .

For YHC, Band of Brothers Episode 1 is especially poignant because it illustrates a few things about what it takes to take a bunch of guys, in this case volunteers, and train them to be a cohesive fighting unit. In the show near the end, they give some credit to how CPT Sobel pushed them to come together. During my tenure on active duty, YHC had a commander like this and his replacement was able to take advantage of the dislike of the past commander and redirect it toward creating a solid fighting force.

We dont have anything like 3 miles up in Richmond, but the hills in the far west end can be inspiring. This is the first reason for the AO name.

The second reason is that Godwin’s mascot is Eagles. The “Screaming Eagles”, is featured in the logo of the 101 Airborne.

Happy 70th Anniversary to the 101st Airborne Division ...
shoulder patch for 101st Infantry Division (Airborne)

Finally, the grand opening of the AO on May 8, 2020 is on the 75th anniversary of VE day – the end of WW2 in Europe. While the corona virus has damped our ability to remember and celebrate, we have a lot to be thankful for on this side of that most important day in our history.

    NMS:

Nice morning for a kettlebell beatdown! It was nice to see the Circus Maximus men again. It had been too long! Always a pleasure to see White Deer even though he gave YHC a hard time for showing up to Q. It was great to also see familiar faces Atilla and Offshore and to see and get to know Whitesnake, Pigskin and Lighthouse a little better. YHC will be back once school is out! Great job attacking the workout, men and I hope you attack the day, as well!

  • Can Navy Men Actually Swim?

Seven men traversed Rutland, Knollwood, and Cool Spring by foot either with or without weight at various speeds.  Runners covered roughly 4.7 miles.

    Numberama, Nameorama, COT

    MOLESKIN

YHC appreciated the PAX’s willingness to recycle a known route as opposed to following YHC’s blind lead.  Enjoyed mumblechatter with Phonics and Bulkhead while Marco and Speakeasy pushed slightly ahead.  Discussion involved real estate in Southwest Virginia, Highland Springs Lacrosse and Swim Teams, economics of travel soccer in the US, the GOAT Olympian, and whether or not Navy men actually know how to swim.  Thanks for the hospitality!

  • On the ground???

13 warriors gathered for an itchy version of a Tuckahoe Takeover of 45MOM. Here’s what went down:

COP: Mosey to the side of the school for SSH, Don Quixote, arm circles, dead man hangs, merkins, and LBCs.

Mosey to the field for a set of exercises at each of the 11 trees that line Cary Street: burpees (55 in total), squats (110 in total), reverse crunches (55 in total), and merkins (110 in total).

Next, we went to the tennis court for 3 sets of PLTs. Then, with the same partner, we played catch me if you can. 2 rounds with 5 burpees.

We then moseyed to the flat top for a triple check: balls to the wall, Freddie Mercurys, and run to the tennis court fence.

Finally, we circled up back at the flag for a round of American Hammers (yes on the ground), LBCs, Alabama Prom Dates, and merkins.

Numberama, nameorama, and the Q took us out.

NMS: It was great to be back at 45MOM and see a bunch of familiar faces and several new ones. The field near Cary Street has gone rogue, with lots of spiky/itchy plants. Be warned. See you in the gloom. Ronnie out.

  • The Baltimore Experience

Eight gentlemen exhibited their southern hospitality by greeting three northern visitors for today’s edition of Timberwolf. After some brief discussion of appropriate parking spaces, Honeymoon rolled in on his chariot and off we went. Brief mosey to the main entrance of the school for:

    COP

    • 20x SSH
    • 10x Helicopters

    • 10x WWIIs

    The Thang

    • Round 1: 15 merkins, 30 squats, 40 flutter kicks, run between zones
    • Round 2: 15 hand release merkins, 30 lunges, 40 freddie mercuries, north karaoke between zones

Mosey to the bus loop by the 7th grade entrance for triple check. LBCs, plank, tracers for the first 4 lines.

Mosey BTTVSF, alternating between merkins and burpees based on the lowest number on each door we pass. We passed the 8th grade entrance somewhere along the line as well. 6th graders must have to tunnel into the building.

Circle up for 5 MOM including american hammers, iron penis, hello dolly, SSH, and one or two arm circles before time hit.

Numbers, names, and Marv took us out.

    Moleskin

Major appreciation to the Timberwolf crew for enduring the dual Q today. You guys have great energy and takeover week is a reminder that YHC needs to find a way to break out of the routine from time to time and see the PAX all over greater RVA.

There were a few attempts at mutiny on the tennis court today. Luckily, all attempts were thwarted. All except for Bullseye. He does what he wants. Kudos brother, you do you.

Backblast title goes to the mumblechatter theme on the tennis courts as one PAX member was receiving a ribbing for his recent trip to Baltimore. There were many suppositions about the nature of EH that happened. Only one knows best.

Thanks again for letting us lead.

    Splinter.

  • Ed brings a boring workout!

12 SOJ studs and some dude from Tuckahoe converged on the sprawling estates of Huguenot High. Weather was quite nice, not quite 70 but I will take it. After a brief mosey down to the lowest elevation parking lot the workout went like this:

COP: DQs, Helicopters, merkins, a few scorpion kicks (Pax loved it), FMs, ACs. Short mosey to a different corner of the parking lot.

E1: 4 cumulative corners with 10 burpees, 20 WWIIs (w/ the burpees), 30 jump squats (w the burpees and WWIIs), and then 40 2 count flutter kicks. For some reason there was mixed feedback on these exercises. Short mosey to grassy hill #1.

E2: Wheelbarrows up the hill for each person. I like the layout of grassy hills between parking lots at Huguenot. Mosey to next parking lot.

E3: Doras with 100 HRMs, 200 Helix squats and 300 LBCs, Other partner runs 3/4 the way down the parking lot and back. Mosey to curb next to school entrance.

E4: Curb crawl up to 3 down to 1 followed by a long lunge back towards home base.

Moseyed near flag and finished with AHs, Heels to heaven and DQs.

Announcements: 5/30 Convergence at Tredegar downtown, 6/4 Blood Drive at Epiphany Lutheran (see Pigskin for details), 6/4 Bridge – see Vinny for details, 5/28 – Puppy Pile at Rockwood post workout. September 11 – go with Doozy to run the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to the amount of the steps in the World Trade Center building.

Prayers are with Gypsy, Try Hard’s sister, Lab Rat, Mr, Holland, Fresh Prince and Don Draper. I also am getting a CT scan this morning due to a condition I have. Hopefully like the past two CT scans, everything checks out OK. I had fun leading this group. I’d like to come back here again.

    Fireman Ed

  • Damn that was hard

YHC was up in Baltimore without an AO within 2 hours. So what do you do? Talk one of your co-workers to meet you in the parking lot at 5:30 am. Challenge was accepted and according to those loading the shuttle for BWI here is what went down.

Mosey around the hotel. COP 20 each SSH, LBC. 10 each: Merkins, DQ’s, Helicopters, Imperial Walkers, Flutters, Box cutters, Drydocks.

Triple check with 2 PAX? 1st person run to end of lot 2nd alternate between WWII’s and hand release merkins. 3 turns each

Triple 2- Alternate between SSH’s and Squats. Runner same length.

Run around hotel stopping for exercise at every lightpole.

Triple 3- Runner around the hotel . Alternate between 10 Drydocks and 10 LBC’s.

YHC took us out in prayer.

  • First Watch Trio

Three FW Regulars attacked a different feeling FW workout this morning with many regulars Q’ing elsewhere because of Tuckahoe Takeover, one being on the IR, or just plain ole Fartsacking! Either way, here is what transpired for these three amigos:

    COP on church patio:

SSH’s, Helicopters, DQ’s, LBC’s, Suzanne Somers L & R, Box Cutters, Dead Man Hang, Reach for the Stars.

Enough, let’s mosey up Ridge to Pinetree.

On Pinetree, 5 merkins for every sedan, 5 WW2’s for every SUV, 5 Monkey Humpers for every mini-van, 5 Burpees for every trailer.

On University, complete a Triple Check: Run up University to Pinetree and back, Jump Squats, Carolina Dry Docks.

Head over to the lake and cross footbridge over to the island.

    Grab a bench: 10 x Incline Merkins, 10 x Step-ups, 10 x Dips, 10 x Decline Merkins

    Grab a tree: 10 x Pole Smokers, 10 x Wilson’s Boxing Cockroaches

Mosey back over footbridge and up the hill to the Amphitheatre.

Start at bottom and head up the steps alternating with 5 Monkey Humpers at one step then 5 Squats at next step.

Head through campus back towards VSF with a traveling Lindsay: Heels to Heaven and LBC’s

Stop at Saab’s driveway for a little Honeymoon Suite action: Alabama Prom Dates, Wilson’s wife, Fudd’s wife, Saab’s wife and Pickle Pounders.

Back to VSF for Numbers, Names, Announcements and YHC took us out!

    2.8 miles

    Announcements:

HDHH at The Answer this evening at 5:30

SOJ Takeover in a few weeks

    The Bridge on June 4

    Blood Drive on June 4

Prayers for Honeydo’s back and Splinter’s 2.0’s injuries.

    NMS:

What a gorgeous morning for a running beatdown! Light numbers were expected but it was no less entertaining than a regular FW oversharing beatdown, even though the main oversharers were not present. The owls around the lake were definitely creating some oversharing stories of their own. Baseball was a subject for the third day in a row for Splinter, as was running. Last Call was excited that YHC took us off campus yet again for another running workout. A UR student, professor, groundskeeper or visitor obviously has an ear wax problem with all of the Q-Tips that were on the island in the middle of the lake.

Nice work this morning, Splinter and Last Call! Enjoyed the fellowship!

YHC will be Q’ing for Tuckahoe Takeover the rest of the week somewhere. Stay tuned….
