  • Ruckers get a Brazilian from The Flying Chad

An elite squad of heavily-laden ruckers converged at Ruckhenge for the first leg of our OTB adventure. Before we could even leave the lot, an FNG-to-be chased us down to get the download on F3 and assured us he’ll be joining us soon. En route to the railroad track a second FNG-to-be stopped the march to also get our info. Seems daytime rucks might just be a great recruiting tool! We traveled a total of about 2.2 miles, and YHC felt very much like a sorry pack mule carrying a cooler of beverages in addition to the usual 50 pound ruck. But we arrived exactly on time at Machismo’s 12 acre paradise, and promptly dropped rucks and crushed a beer.

For the second part of our adventure, Machismo marched the PAX back into the woods and toward the railroad track where a number of old, mostly rotten, railroad ties were piled up. Dookie briefly danced with a copperhead, but no harm to either dangerous creature transpired. So two mostly whole railroad ties were shouldered, 3 men to a caber, and carried back to the ranch. We deposited the cabers next to Machismo’s log splitting arena, and took turns competing with splitting speed and maul VS axe. The clock face splitting for speed was particularly fun, and Machismo leaving the ground to split a gnarly bit was epic (see picture) – no wood can resist the power of The Flying Chad. We concluded our pre-dinner activities by being entertained with DTH and Machismo’s efforts to walk a giant wooden spool (see picture).

For our third quarter of this epic event, the PAX pulled up camp chairs, cracked beers, told stories, and watched the meat wizard (Machsimo) go to work. With a smaller number of PAX than expected, these lucky few HIM’s engorged themselves with triple portions of tomahawk lamb steaks, sandwiches of Brazilian-style steak & chimichurri on toasted baguette, and a couple massive steaks provided by Dookie. After devouring some of the meat Purple Rain asked if Machismo would have him for his wife, but he was quickly declined. The PAX got to meet the lucky M toward the end of our dinner and she agreed Machismo’s meat is the best.

For our final leg of the OTB adventure, Machismo (and his sweet dog) led a very jolly and stuffed band of ruckers back through the darkening woods to Rockaway, and then even remained with the PAX for the full return journey back to Ruckhenge. YHC was under quite a bit of weight, and found the return trip, all up hill, to be quite daunting. At the time of this writing, YHC is completely stiff and sore all over. But the PAX was very encouraging and all HIM’s completed the 2.5 miles trek back to Einstein safely.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. Even with many weeks to plan/prepare, not many PAX prioritized participating in this epic event, and it’s likely even fewer will choose to read about what we’ve accomplished out there. As with all things in life – you’ll get out what you put in. Be there next time fellas!  Yours AYE, DTH

  • Family Time!

Today’s OTB family-friendly ruck gathered 29 cheerful hearts of all ages for ruck/hike through Larus Park. We started with a warmerama and stretching on the green space next to Gelati Celesti, and YHC even called a few reps in cadence. Before launching we covered safety rules for our big group including lots of kids, and then trekked a 2.5 mile loop around Larus with a merry band of high-energy boys leading the way the entire time. We stopped for the SIX a number of times including a refreshing splash in a creek and death-defying heights at the climbing rock, and made it back in just under 90 minutes. No injuries, bright sunshine, and fresh air! We topped it all off with a COT, a coolest gathered rock competition, and great conversations over ice cream. Until next time, Yours AYE! ~DTH

NMS:  Solid PAX to run through some of our favorite DTH routines. TClaps to these Forge studs embracing the suck and conquering all these COT’s with great enthusiasm and effort. While bearcrawling the handicap ramp (AKA hadicamp) Snuff noted the brutal hear crawl was better than needing it for a wheelchair. This sentiment of gratitude for the strength and health we enjoy was rolled into the sober reality during COT that none of us can count on tomorrow, and we all ought to do all we can for the time we have today – seek and give forgiveness, put others needs before your own, stop to enjoy the beauty and blessing of moments and margins. Lovely coffeerama followed courtesy of Snuff, with excellent discussion about our 3rd F topics of Prayer and Study. We are better when connected with each other and with a greater power’s accountability and guidance of the What-What. The joyful grand finale on the morning was Scram agreeing to VQ this Saturday at Bon Iron. Let’s GO!!! Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • Joey’s Hot Dogs

8 of met for lunch at Joey’s Hot Dogs in Innsbrook. Discussions on various assorted topics including ‘why is it that if I run a route one way, the elevation change is different when I run the same route in reverse?’

  • It’s You Against You

One biked, five ran, maybe 7 ran, and one walked…but, surely, all pushed in the latest edition of Sunday Funday. Temperatures were a brisk 70 and sunny. According to the guy who drives a creepy, but somehow not THAT creepy, white van, the following might have happened.

2 guys ran 10+ at Snowy Owl. Maybe that’s Sunday Funday. Surely, today is Sunday. And, surely, it was a funday. If they do their own backblast, we will adjust.

3, including an FNG, ran 6.7 miles on the trails. Buttermilk to Northbank.

One ran way more than that. Hard to say how far.

One ran way less than that. 4.1.

    One hiked for an hour.

    One guy rode forever.

    Numbers, names, and we dispersed.

NMS: We had an FNG at Sunday Funday. Kevin is a legitimate friendly new guy. First, he’s friendly. Second, he’s new. And, third, well, we assume. Among other things, he is an expert tiler. Welcome, Grout.

  • The Beautiful Bridge

What a wonderful morning for F3RVA, F3 The Bridge and F3 Charlottesville to converge on top of the hills of Buckingham County, VA! At precisely 7:30am, after meetings and greetings, and tummy rubs and ear scratches for the pups, the following is what most likely happened:

Mosey over to the large blacktop area for:

    Four Corners – Prostitute Style

Mosey back to basketball court for:

Round 1: 5 trees or protrusions from the ground/Merkins

    Round 2: 5 different trees or protrusions/Squats

    Round 3: 5 different trees or protrusions/Burpees

Partner up for 20 count Boo-Yah Merkins

    Al Gore

    Back to the blacktop for:

    Tug-O-War! (refereed by Mr. Davis)

    Round 1: Mix-n-match Team A beats Mix-n-match Team B

    Round 2: Mix-n-match Team B beats Mix-n-match team A

Round 3: F3 The Bridge beats F3RVA really badly!

Back to the basketball court for:

    5MOM

Each pax picked an exercise that we did 10 of in cadence.

    Time up!

Numbers, Names, Prayer Requests and Praises

    YHC took us out!

    NMS:

We could not have asked for anything more than what we received this morning! Great weather, awesome fellowship, and, most importantly, helping our F3 The Bridge brothers see the light of a new day (and the light at the end of the tunnel.) These five men brought their A game right out of the fartsack this morning! They also brought joy and humility to us, which was much needed for YHC.

If you haven’t been, you need to go! It’s as simple as that. A lot of us advertise The Bridge at the end of most of our backblasts, but then it ends there. Follow through and go!

Also, I have two words for you: Cumberland Diner!

We need someone who has been at least one time to sign up to Q for January. See Upchuck.

F3RVA – this thing that we share is not about you, it’s about everyone and everything else.
