Mary Munford Elementary

  • Some People Feel the Rain. Others Just Get Wet.

9 of Roger Miller’s closest friends ventured forth in the rain, wind, and Gloom, electing to spend 45 Minutes together at Mary. Temperatures and conditions were exactly 70 and sunny. According to the worms inching across the pavement, here’s what happened, more or less:

With the normal Q (Wojo – get better soon) on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, Saab took the Q to begin with:

Mosey around the school north, west, south, and east to the playground.

    COP:
    Dead Man Hang
    Helicopters
    Imperial Walkers
    Mercans

Mosey to the Tennis Courts for Suicides:

    Standard suicides
    Escalator suicides with mercans (5, 10, 15, 20) at the 25, 50, 75, and 100 percent lines

Mosey to the School Wall of Inverted Pain for Chicken Peckers (10), then bear crawl to the blacktop, then run to the fence, Bernie Sanders back, and 20 WWIIs. Hold for the Six, and pitch it to TYA for:

    TYA Q:

Mosey to the Pavilion. Partner up. Partner 1 does Heels to Heaven. Partner 2 runs to the corner of Commonwealth and Grove, then runs back. Swap. 3 rounds.

    HoneyDo Q:

Mosey to the Blacktop for four corners.

    Round 1: 10 burpees, 20 mercans, 30 V-ups, 40 jump squats
    Round 2: 15 burpees, 25 mercans, 35 V-ups, 45 jump squats

    UpChuck Q:

    53 four-count flutter kicks
    10 snow angels
5 or so inverted scorpion kicks

Mosey back towards the flag. But, then an April Fool’s Audible, stop, do 5 mercans and 5 WWIIs, then continue BTTVSF.

Numbers, names, Swirl-Y took us out.

    Announcements:

Freed to Bleed on May 1 (Blood Drive). See BoBerry for details. (BoBerry – your Dad seemed to need more information on this event).

Doublemint is pulling people together to help clean up Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, April 3. 9-10:30 or 10:30-12. Let’s get some fellas out there. YHC has been – it’s fun and a rewarding experience.

Sometime in May (Saturday – date TBD) TYA will be leading a crew to build a handicap ramp and some stairs for a new children’s facility on the Southside. Express your interest to him.

BRR – September 9-11. Filling up fast. Be there and experience the stories. Or, don’t be there and miss the opportunity of having YHC snore so loud he wakes Saab.

    NMS:
Saab does not take kindly to Pavilions. Hates them. Like Indiana Jones hates snakes.

YHC was accused of foot faulting on the tennis courts. Guilty.

Welcome, Slim from Asheville. Apparently, if F3RVA can’t find a house for BRR, we can stay with him. Very kind.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • Everything is Moist

Farmer/ Wheelbarrow/ Hammer: In groups of 3. P1 (Wheelbarrow) and P2 (farmer) wheelbarrow up the school steps and down the wheelchair ramp, back to to the start, where P3 is performing American Hammers. Switch. One round through.

11s. Dips and Steps ups. Audible at 6:14 and back to the flag.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Moistness was the theme for the morning, starting with Handshake’s observation that Hitch always overdresses for purposes of moisturation. Indeed, everything was moist after 24 hours of heavy rain and the first morning in a while with a touch of humidity. Turns out there is scientific data behind the reason why everyone hates the word moist: https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/64984/science-behind-why-people-hate-word-moist

  • Parking Lot Workout

  • Steal the Damn Bacon

A strong 12 gathered to greet the new glorious day with a beatdown. Here’s what happened:

COP: All IC. Deadman Hang // DQs // Apple Seed Pickers (in honor of Johnny Appleseed Day) // Imperial Walkers // Lt. Dans // Crabcakes // APDs // LBCs // Inverted Crabcakes // Plank Jacks // Peter Parkers // Shoulder Taps // Merkins // Helicopters // SSH 21s // 5 Burpees. Mosey to Field

    Chutes & Ladders
Run two trees, perform 5 merkins. Bernie Sanders back one tree, then run two more trees, perform 5 merkins. Rinse and repeat to the last tree. //
Round 2: Same program with WW2s.
Round 3: Same program with Burpees. Mosey to Blacktop.

Triple Check: P1 Dips // P2 Wall Sit with Arm Circles // P3 Run to pull up bars, 3 pull ups, run back.

STEAL THE BACON: 2 teams of 6 on the blacktop. Number off. A number is called, and the two opposing men run to the “bacon” in the middle and try to grab it and run back to their line before being tagged. 1 point for a tag, 2 points for making it back untagged.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: The morning started with very little mumble chatter which greatly distressed TYA. He was especially concerned that after Offshore’s long awaited return, he would surmise that we have become a bunch of boring lame-os. Saab was uncharacterisally quiet, which we chalked up to the fact that he must have been thinking about Esther Williams. Thankfully some chatter started up again at the Triple Check. TYA also complained that we were not having enough fun, so we finished with an epic blacktop game of Steal the Bacon. There was one casualty of Bacon Bits’ ankle (strange connection here with Bacon Bits getting hurt while playing steal the bacon??), but otherwise much fun was had. YHC and Handshake will not boast of what was the most dominant play of the game because YHC will try to remain humble.

Way to work guys thanks for letting me lead today – been awhile since we have done a 5k the hard way – great job.

In case you missed it TYA was really locked in on a women golfer who likes puppies – Hitch bought a house but does not know the address 🙂 Handshake had a record month in sales at Woodfin. Singer had to many layers on. Faceplant wanted Saabski to check into a certain thing on google and he refused – – cause he was not willing to have such content in his browser history 🙂 And we all felt some spring in the air this morning !!!

See y’all in the gloom !

  • Dry

6 Warriors posted on a Thursday morning. Weather was sunny and 70.

As I had the Q today, I decided to fulfill Bodo’s goal of a couple of weeks ago by doing the entire workout in the Gazebo. We did an initial run around the school, then headed to the Gazebo. COP followed by a set of lindsey’s with pole smokers and WWiI situps with bear crawls in between. Next up was jumping rope and lunges in teams. Last set of lindsey’s was merkins and SSH. Short version of Mary and then out. We finished the workout and COT under the Gazebo. 45 minutes in a cold freezing rain, a great workout and we finished up dry. All in all a good day. Should you want to hear about the mumble chatter, see Bodos. He led us in a long discussion of grooming for men.

I took us out with a thought that I had the other day. The thought: I know we are going through tough times and there is a lot of suffering in the world. It is true that these times are challenging. But in context of what our ancestors went through, and the quality of life that we have, I have been trying to be more grateful for what I have been blessed with. Society, and us as individuals will go through challenges, and we should always strive to improve, but let’s not lose sight of how blessed we are. A little bit of positivity might brighten your and other days. YHC just wants to acknowledge that this sound pretty preachy typed out. It is not meant to be that way and hopefully was delivered with a tone of aspiration.

    Dora at the Tennis Courts: 200 Squats // 150 Merkins // 100 WW2s // 50 Burpees

Pull-up COP: circle the monkey bars. Pax member performs 5 pull up and passes to the next. While waiting Pax performs Incline Merkins, LBCs, Dips, etc.

Mosey back to the flag. Finish up with 5 burpees.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: When YHC saw a bunch of icy weather in the forecast, planning began for how to have a good cardio workout without running on the ice. Hence the ordering of a “bulk fancy jump rope pack.” It was brilliant fun to watch the various levels of jump roping abilities. Pucker and BT won the prize for best form, Handshake for best invisible jump rope, and Saab and TYA for… creativity. Clearly we need some practice.
