  • My Socks are Full

21 F3RVA regulars shook off the fartsack to enter the gloom for a beatdown that went something like this:

Mosey to corner of MM for COP. Exercises included SSH (56), DQs, LBCs.

Mosey to bus loop for Curb Crawls. Bear crawl across, perform 1 merkins and crawl bear back for 1 merkin. Repeato until 20 merkins.

Mosey around school to blacktop for Triple Check. Exercises included run across balcktop twice, wall sits, and squats. Repeato x 3.

Another Triple check. Exercises included, run backwards across blacktop twice, merkins, upright merkins. Repeato x 3.

Mosey back to near the parking lot for 3 MOM. Exercises included LBCs, Rosalitas, Flutterkicks.

Mosey back to flag. Numberama, namearama and TYA took us out.

Announcements – Hardywood is going on a trip. Keep in and family in thoughts.

    NMS: Happy BDAY TYA.

Circle K (written on behalf of TYA) (obviously TYA did not come up with the BB Title)

  • 4th Annual March Madness

24 dancers assembled in the rainy gloom for an experience as close to one shining moment as they will get. This was the 4th iteration of this novelty, AKA The Gheorghe Murisan Classic. Here is how it went down, give or take a few “you get the ideas…”

Mosey single-file over the the illuminated hoops court for layup drill. 4 left handed then 2 right handed before lining up military style on the court. Instructions were followed and off we went.

    COP
Invisible Jump Ropes x20 (nice Fletch touch Gumbo)
    Don Quixote’s x10
    High Knees x20
    Butt Kickers x15
Defensive slide with floor slap x10

Mosey to the end line for a quick line drill followed by a tribute to 3 of the 5 Virginia schools playing in the tournament. Mix in a few line drills in-between specials.

    Kyle Guy Special
Pair up and complete 106 merkins, 1 for every three he has hit (so far) this year.

The Justin… wait for it… Robinson
1347 total points in his career. 13 burpees followed by 47 single count lunges. We stopped b/c I said so.

    The Marcus Santos-Silva Rebound Special
338 total rebounds in his career so 33 two-count mountain climbers followed by 8 Lt. Dans.

Tip Drill. It worked this time, except no one can follow directions. Anyway, that was kind of fun. Saab would have loved it.

Form 2 teams for some risk/reward. Choose one person from your team to shoot, if they make it your team does said amount of merkins and other team does burpees. If you miss it your team does burpees and the other team does merkins. 5 merkins / 3 burpees for layup. 10 merkins / 6 burpees for free throw. 15 merkins / 9 burpees for 3 pointer. My team won, mostly because of Vinny’s banked in 3 pointer.

Try the 1-1 challenge again. 4 attempts this time around? BT made the front-end one round and was the only free throw made. Lots of burpees, merkins, and squats.

Form 6 teams of 4. See, math works! Two full court basketball games with two teams sitting out doing WWIIs. If your team wins you stay. Losers bump out. I think we made it through 4 games of about 3 minutes a piece. One game was called after YHC hit the game winner. What, you didn’t see the clock?

Mosey back to the VSF where YHC took us out.

    Moleskin
YHC was a little nervous that no one would show today as the weather was brutal for outdoor basketball. Nonetheless, we all adjusted and hopefully had a good time. Kudos to Vinny and Gumbo for sporting themed jerseys, Gheorghe Murisan and Fletch respectively. Wasn’t Murisan a Bullet?

We always manage to have just the right number of people for a great series of games. One of these days we will play in the daylight.

13 Gentlemen arrived to 45MOM this morning in hopes that a workout would start their day in the most positive of directions….0529 50 secs….time to mosey.

The PAX took off with the Q right in the middle…..um, maybe they can read minds. Within 200 yds, Q kept running down the sidewalk with PAX looking for direction. 3/4 mosey around the block of Mary and to the blacktop for COP= x 10 Don Quixote’s, x 20 SSH, x 15 Seal Jacks, x 15 Copperhead Squats, x 15 Box Cutters, x 15 Flutter Kicks, x 10 Merkins, x 10 Booyah Merkins. Done…and mosey to the field.

Red Barchetta= PAX lined up for instructions. Run 100 yds and perform 100 SSH, back to the line. Run 75 yrds, perform 75 Mountain Climbers, back to the line. 50 yd run, 50 LBC’s, back. 25 yd run, 25 Merkins, back. 10 yd run, 10 Burpees.

Partner up and each partner performs 100 Wilson’s Dying Cockroach. Any increment you want but gotta finish 100.

Super 21……Q favorite. 1 WWII situp, 1 Merkin. 2 WWII situps, 2 Merkins…..and so all the way to 21. IC too. Due to time constraints. audible called for situps at 20 and 21 to LBC’s AYO but Merkins were IC. Had to finish. Mosey back to the flag.

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Honeydo needs assistance with logistics for Growruck next weekend (driving the supply wagon) in one of the later shifts. Next Friday night is Happy Hour somewhere in RVA. Watch for preblast. Dogpile is 0700 on Saturday, 3/23 with Dredd leading. Breakfast Club will leave ET’s at 0630. ALL F3 MEN INVITED TO BREAKFAST CLUB!

    YHC took us out!

NMS: Light crowd today but it is Spring Break for some. Great work today men and beach season is right around the corner. Q really likes Super 21!! TYA has a way newer watch than the Q so he helped keep time this am. YHC illumination no longer works. Thank you TYA.

Upchuck, sometimes I overestimate and sometimes I underestimate and fractions were a long time ago. Sugar Sock great to see you out this morning and hopefully, the funk has left your crib.

Thank you for following this morning men! Every day I thank the Lord for the ability to breathe and experience my life. And those days that start at the Gloom, my day is just a little bit sweeter! And we are all blessed!

    Only those who post understand.

    Loud and Proud,

    Flatline

  • Hey boys, check the form on the lunges!

17 Strong posted on a sunny and 70 Thursday morning. Weather was perfect for a good beatdown.

    The Thang:

10 Burpees OYO, Mosey to side of school for COP 10x Don Quixotes, 10x Windmills, 20x LBC, 30x SSH. Mosey to the track for 1k, 5k. Exercises are 100 merkins, 200, squats, 300 WWII setups, 400 SSH. Mosey to triple check area. Triple check for 15 minutes: balls to the wall, wwII setups, and run to fence and back. Lunge to the street, run back to the shovel flag. 10 x wwII setups, and superman to end.

Saab is hilarious during the warmups. Not because he is saying stuff, but because his warmup exercises are hilarious. His approach to Don Quixotes and SSH is unique to say the least. If you are the Q, do not look in his direction, it might screw up your cadence.

Kubota might be the most environmentally unconcerned citizen I have met. He leaves his truck running for a half hour before the workouts even though he is in Swirlys truck so that he can put his hat and gloves on in the warmth of his truck (and also to waste fossil fuel and clean air)

Objective today was to keep us moving the whole time. No breaks. We did a lot of running, but it was a good day for that.

    Announcements

Bootleg is running a 50k this weekend. Fantastic to see a guy set his mind to something and attack it with all he has got. Truly inspiring.

April 3rd Roller Coaster will be at a different location, followed by a humpday happy hour. Pre blast to come from Kubota.

Earth day 5K coming up in April. The race truly sucks and you are lucky if you even get a t-shirt. See Wedding Singer for details.

    Ruck tomorrow morning at Ramm.

    TYA out

  • (One) Year Ago When I Came To Know Mary

Twenty-two Richard Marx fans lined up at 45MOM for pre-sale tickets to his June 1st show at the Beacon Theater in Hopewell. Here’s what we did while we waited for the box office to open up:

    COP:  SSHs x 25. Forward Arm Circles x 10. Russian Soldiers x 10. Copperhead Squats x 10.

Field Trip to the Greek Church:  Partner up. Boxing Cockroaches. 20 each x 5 sets. Tower 11s.  Each PAX member grabs two parking spaces side-by-side. Merkins and Carolina Dry Docks are the exercises. Start at the parking space header in the left spot. Perform exercises. Bear crawl to top of the parking space, over to your right, and crawl bear back down to the header in that space. Rinse and repeat. Arm Circles. Backwards x 10. DORA.  100 Rosalitas. 200 Squats. 300 SSHs. PLTs  25 each PAX member.

Get on the Bus – Head Back to/for Mary: Merkins x 10. Flutter Kicks x 100. Burpees x 10. 60 seconds of high knees. 06:15 box office doors open.

    YHC took us out.

Announcements: Grow Ruck is headed our way. See the pre-blast and do your best to participate in some if not all.

NMS:  05:25 and the PAX was ready to go. YHC was scrolling through the Beacon Theater box office list yesterday and noticed that the one and only Richard Marx is headed our way. The perfect F3 field trip if you ask me. Viral in particular is excited. Noting, isn’t he the guy who sang about being accused of kidnapping someone? Why yes; yes he is.

Awkward Transition: Today is an important day for me. It is my last day at The Gee Law Firm. I joined them six years ago, and was friends and colleagues with most of them years prior. They are family. It is not without sadness that I leave them. As we go forward today, let’s remember those who did right by us, who lifted us up, who took us in from the rain. Move forward, but look back. Tomorrow I start a new job that I am very excited about. But that’s tomorrow. Today, I soak it all in. I encourage each of you to do the same. To lift up the positivity in our lives, and to thank those who play(ed) a part in it.

Enjoyed the morning men. It was great sharing it with each of you.

  • When in doubt, SQUERKIN

Intro: Despite a foreboding forecast, 16 frost-hardened gloom warriors posted to 45MOM, only to find YHC’s shovel flag standing proud, Old Glory snapping her welcome in a balmy 70 degree breeze.

    The THANG:

Mosey to COP #1: (Black Top)

    • Sweat Party: Hands up with continuous high knees, drop for a 5-count merkin set on hearing “Drop”, jump back up to continue high knees, repeato – Merkins included Chuck Norris, Werkin, FingerTip, Diamond, & Dive Bombers
    • Dancing Bears x15 IC (Bear crawl position, Raise Rt Arm + Lt Leg, then opposite, 4 count)
    • Copperhead Squats x15 IC
    • High-speed Freddie M’s x15 IC …to redirect the abundant Mumble Chatter
    • 21’s:  SSH #1-5 IC, then silent for #6-21, x5 Burpees were awarded for multiple PAX losing count and going over…especially SAAB

Mosey around track to COP #2: (Pull-Up Bars)

    • Morning Call:  First man completes 5 pull-ups calling cadence to the pushing PAX who complete 5 matching Merkins or Carolina DryDocks – after 5 pull-ups completed, brother-on-bar calls out his F3Name – echoed by the pushing PAX. Repeato for each member = x80 Drydocks or Merkins total.

Mosey to COP #3: (Tennis Court – short side)

    • BlackJack: x20 WWII, BC or CW across court then x1 Ball Dippers (Iron Mikes), then BC or CW back…descending WWII’s, ascending BD’s, always add’s up to 21 (but because this routine turned out to be super boring, YHC called AUDIBLE having only attained 14WWII and 7 BD’s)

On the Fly COP #4: (Tennis Court – long ways)

    • Triple Check: P1 & P2 complete Squerkins while P3 carioca’s across full length of courts …LBC’s for the Six

Mosey Back to Flag for Mary & COT:

    • Hold 6” for the SIX
    • LBC’s
    • Protractor (varying degrees of pain)
    • Heels to Heaven x10 OYO
    • Flutter Kicks x50 IC (ouch)
    • Plankercizes until times up
    • Counterama
    • Namerama
    • Announcements (included below in Comments)
    • GREENBOW took us out with some high quality prayer

    NMS:

YHC is again honored and blessed to stand among real men, beating the ever cozy fartsack despite risks of low crawls in brown water. YHC ended up adjusting the workout lineup quite a bit in order to reduce mumble chatter and/or keep things interesting…so please forgive any errors detailed above.  Today, YHC remembers proposing to the M 15 years ago – thank GOD she said yes! YHC is who he is today because of her. #TryHardorDieHard

  • Semi-Charmed kind of life

With the temperatures topping a balmy 31F, 23 of RVA’s finest gloom warriors showed up for a 45MOM beatdown.  According to legend it went something like this (more or less):

COP:  11 Imperial Walkers IC, 9 Don Quixote IC, 10 Russian Soldiers IC, 10 Burpees OYO

4 Corners.  Using the block around the school and field run to corner 1 and do 10 Burpees.  Run to corner 2 and do 10 Burpees + 20 Merkins.  Run to corner 3 and do 10 Burpees + 20 Merkins + 30 Squats.  Run to corner 4 and do 10 Burpees + 20 Merkins + 30 Squats + 40 LBC’s.  Plank until done.

4 x 50.  Run to the other side of the field, do 50 Plank Jacks.  Run back, do 50 2-count American Hammers.  Run across, do 50 2-count Mountain Climbers.  Run back, do 50 Monkey Humpers.  Plank until done.

Dora. Mosey to the tennis courts for a Dora: 100 Merkins, 200 Squats, 300 LBC’s, 400 2-count Flutterkicks. Plank until done.

Name-a-rama.  Number-rama.  Greenbow took us out in prayer with some great words to ensure we are nourishing our wives with our love, service, and words of affirmation.

NMS.  What a great time this was!  We did some big numbers today and everyone stayed warm.  Great seeing Twocan back after a long break.  We welcomed FNG Semi-Charmed, although I’m a believer that no name is final on the first day and is subject to change after some more group input at ET’s on Saturday.

Happy Valentine’s day, stay warm, love your wives and kids, and see ya in the gloom!

  • Where’s the Fire!?

A proud 27 showed up for a rare, humid Winter morning ready for a solid beat down.

Thang: Mosey around to Basketball Court. Stay in large circle formation while jogging for a quick warm up. Skipping, inside/outside shuffle.

COP: DQ’s, Imperial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, Copper Head Squats, Flutter Kicks, APD’s, Merkins.

Mosey to large field: Large circle formation, with the Q mixed in the circle. Fire Drill: All PAX is running in place, each PAX member (starting with the Q and moving to his right) will shout Fire! When each Fire is heard, PAX will hit the surface, roll to the right and perform one Merkin, roll back to the left and perform one Merkin, back to feet and repeat until it works around the circle back to the Q.

Staying in the same circle formation, perform 3 sets of 10 each SSH’s and Burpees.

Up along the fence at edge of the field for a Lindsay (40’s). Perform 30 Donkey Kicks, run to the other side of field and perform 10, 2 count Mountain Climbers. Back and forth across field, subtracting 5 from the DK’s and adding 5 to the MC’s, adding up to 40 each time. To be completed when you have 10 of the DK’s, and 30 of the MC’s.

Mosey to Tennis Courts: Try a Suicide Variation (evidently the Q created some confusion in his explanation). Use the far line on each tennis court as the turn point. First “lap” is standard suicide, second lap is caraoke, third lap is running backwards.

Mosey back to Flag: 2 minutes left and a tribute to Don Draper to his 37th Birthday! 37 Merkins, 37 LBC’s.

It had been a while since YHC had Q’d and today was a great day for it. Thanks to the PAX for making it a great one! Awesome work by all! Most comments I received (I’ll take them as positive) where ones in reference to the Fire Drill and Immediately into the SSH/Burpee routine. I have to admit, that was more of a smoker than I had anticipated. Good thing we don’t have to rely on Conspiracy in the event of a real fire…haha.

Announcements: See Flatline or Corporate if you want in the BRR. Flatline’s Mother in Law is going in for open heart sugery…keep them all in your prayers.

We finished with 26 at the end, but I was told there was a 27th there and somewhere in the midst of the gloom was able to slide out without notice. Saab mentioned the name, but YHC has since forgotten…little help? Sorry, to the mystery PAX member.

    Have a great day, men!

  • It’s Always Warmer in the City

10 stallions (5 from SOJ) braved the 10 degree forecast to find a sunny and 70 45mommm ready to be tamed. Dr. Tryhard planted a shovel flag in the frozen tundra of the near West End, the pax observed the beauty of the celestial alignment of 2 planets and the moon, and YHC called time to go. The james-river-passport-stamp-worthy beatdown went something like this:

    THANG

Mosey around perimeter of entire AO to assemble at corner at Grove for COP: SSH, DQ, Copperhead Squats, Russian Soldiers, Tempo Merkins, Hello Dollies, Dying Cock Roaches

All of the above was performed in cadence…unless it wasn’t…and when YHC surveyed the Pax, in cadence, if anyone would cheer for the Patriots in the Superbowl besides TYA, 2 meager voices said aye…respect, we’re jealous…but we’re sick of it, TYA. As a Redskins fan, YHC is more excited about Tony Romo finally making his first Super Bowl, hoping he’ll muff the Jim-Nantz-gift-wrapped tee up…and that Sean McVay wins so that Jay finally gets fired.

Mosey to where everyone parks for a Bearimeter: partner up – 1 partner bear crawls parking lot perimeter, while 1 partner runs backwards around perimeter, meet partner switch and continue in same direction of bear crawl – repeat until perimeter complete

Mosey to track for variation of Merkin Mile…Dryhumper Mile(easily could have been then post title): Run a lap, then 25 Carolina Drydocks + 25 Monkey Humpers – repeato x4

Mosey to endline of main field that was open, partner up for Traditional Dora: 1 partner runs to end of field and back, 1 partner performs 1 merkin, 2 WW2s, 3 squats (1 set) until partner returns. Switch & repeat-o until 100 sets complete. Audible called with 40 to go.

Mosey back towards the flag, assemble for Mary: Alabama Prom Dates, LBCs, Xs & Os

COT- Dr. Tryhard took us out

    Naked Moleskin

YHCs car thermometer read 12-14 degrees on the way, the AO was a balmy 16 which felt like 70 and sunny…

YHC thanks Saab for unlocking his car so we could hang before the workout…miss you, dude.

Swirly crushed the DryHumper mile…shock factor = 0

Handshake had never done a traditional Dorra before…and wasn’t pleased. Saab also complained about the transition time. Bless all of your cotton socks, as Mrs. K would say.

  • Tawm Bradee Rode An Elevata

Eighteen NFC fans posted at 45MOM to discuss all things Rams. Here’s what we talked about:

COP: Invisible jump rope / IJR left leg only / IJR right leg only. On your six. Flat on the ground. Arms above your head. Flutter kick position. Now assume merkin position. Recover – just for you TYA. SSHs / Hillbillies.

Sammy Sosa (Marmaduke calls it The Prostitute. I call is baseball. Sammy Sosa seems like a fair compromise): Home Plate: hold :60 elbow plank. First Base: 10 burpees. Second Base: 20 merkins. Third Base: 30 american hammers (2-count). Home Plate: 40 WWIIs. Start at HP and hold :60 elbow plank. Run to first base, perform the exercise and back to HP for plank. Run to first and second, perform the exercises and back to HP for elbow plank until you’ve circled the bases, performed the exercises, and finished back at HP with a :60 elbow plank.

Catch Me If You Can: Pax was expecting the usual 5 WWIIs and play by normal rules. Not today. If Tom Brady can deflate the football, we can all change the game. 20 WWIIs and go. The goal here was to catch your partner – running backwards – if you could. It’s called Catch Me If You Can. Not, Catch Me A Whole Bunch and Switch. Some caught their partner, some did not. But everyone ran their butts off, and earned their avocado ice cream.

Crab Walk Beast: Starting line is doubles line on first tennis court. Turn around line is center line of court number 2. First exercise: LBCs. Second exercise: SSHs. Third exercise: HR merkins. Time running out. Modify fourth round to lunges and jump squats. Buzzer rang. Back to the flag.

Pucker, riding that Patriots high, took us out.

Announcements: Puppy Pile is a maybe for Saturday. Stay tuned. My law firm is running a canned food drive for furloughed federal employees in need. Reach me at 804-852-0800 for details. Dr. Try Hard has limited add space left on his shovel flag if you are looking to expand your marketing. New AO opening on 4/4 at Huguenot HS. Dr. Try Hard – well done setting this up. You may lose out on naming rights, however. Breakfast Club launches from ETs at 05:30 every Saturday. Bring your shovel flags and run with us. It is a really cool experience.

NMS: TYA was lucky enough to experience one of the coolest events in sports, an NFL conference title game, in KC this past Sunday. His Chiefs fought hard, but in the end, were robbed by the NFL – Bob Kraft machine. While he was there, Tawmmy Avocodo rode in an elevator. And no TYA, we are not changing Friday’s run name from RAMM to PATS for the next two weeks.

Great work today men. The energy was awesome! The gloom really is a powerful thing. Loved having y’all out there with me today. Go Rams!
