    PREBLAST — Labor Day Convergence @ GridIron

    The GridIron Pax will host a Convergence at 7:00AM on Labor Day, September 7, 2020. The venue will be at the GridIron AO, Pouncy Tract Park, Short Pump, VA.

    We are planning a 1 hour bootcamp followed by a socially-distanced coffeeteria on site. We will have coffee and a simple breakfast menu of sausage and egg bagels.

    There will be no charge for breakfast, but we will be collecting donations for CrossOver Healthcare Ministry, which is currently handling a lot of COVID testing and providing much needed healthcare support to hard-hit communities. More info can be found at https://www.crossoverministry.org/.

    If you know you will be staying for coffeeteria, then please RSVP to Johnsonville at flbiggs@gmail.com. Getting a decent head-count will help us to plan for the correct amount of coffee and food.

    Bring your own lawn chair if you want comfortable seating. We will make sure the workout is fairly FNG friendly, so bring an FNG or two as well.

    An extraordinary THIRTY gloom warriors posted this morning to our SOJ inaugural PuppyPile at NoToll, with a few brave men outnumbered at least 3-1 by a veritable herd of adventure-energized 2.0’s! An entirely intimidated DTH noted perfect conditions – sunny, 70 degrees, 0700 – and off we went!

    • Dad’s Bearcrawl with Bricks in hand and a 2.0 riding on their back wherever possible

    FRISBEE FIVES:

    • Frisbee is thrown by a 2.0, first kid to get it calls an exercise for the PAX to complete x5 reps, then that 2.0 get to throw the frisbee
    • Lots of merkins, squats, burpees, and sit-ups called

    Slip-n-Slide:

    • Hardywood rounded up the gang and had everyone doing Merkins, Squats, or Sit-ups while everyone took at least one turn getting their best move on the slide

    • Holy moly, and I thought regular F3 workouts were fun! This was AMAZING!!! Such great energy this morning with all the 2.0’s absolutely tearing through the exercises. Many thanks to Seadoo for bringing a speaker (which YHC had forgotten) so we could do the Gutbusters musical number, and of course hats off the Hardywood for bringing that awesome Slip-n-Slide back out for our grand finale today. Also big shout out to the Honeydew Crew who policed up the bricks after COT. Not surprisingly, the watermelon was a huge hit, and YHC is thinking we’ll be seeing more of the watermelonorama for YHC’s summer Q’s to come. And keep tuned – we will be doing this again in August! SYITG!

Start at the pavillion, run to other side to complete exercises as prescribed. Run back to pavillion. Team that finished first gets a point for something that is akin to bit coin or a Schrute Buck.

    DTH just could not wait for everyone to get a hold of his wood. Here’s how this worked out; split back into the original teams. Each team gets 5 cabers. DTH gets one huge smile. Now for the Dora part. The exercises are done by all the pax who are not running with cabers. Exercises are done in cadence as a group. Cabers must be motion at all times.

    News: Puppy Pile is next Sunday from 7am – 8am at No Toll. The slip n slide may make another appearance. And if you were concerned that Seymour would be in his speedo, I can confirm his restraining order does not allow him to come that close.

    Moleskin: Gents, thank you so much for making the time today. In all seriousness, it’s a really important day. I appreciate you for showing up, showing your enthusiasm and not being silent.

    It’s as much of a time to celebrate as it is a time to reflect. The signers of the Declaration Of Independence were not perfect. Scratching just beneath what was taught to us in school shows that they were profoundly flawed men. Aside from the powdered wig and pantaloons, they were much like us. It would have been easier to be submissive to the largest military force the world had ever known. Most American colonists were opposed to a revolution of any kind.

    Perhaps they sensed what would happen is they remained silent and obedient. Tyranny unchecked knows no boundaries. The following sums it up pretty good and is often attributed to Thomas Jefferson “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.”

    So on this most wonderful of days, as you hold a cool beverage in one hand and an imported explosive in the other, pause for a moment to think about what is worth lending your voice to? What principle needs a champion in todays world? What thing are you wishing for some one else to do that you can and should be doing?

    Start at light pole one do called exercise, then run to last light pole repeat exercise, then back to second pole, complete as many poles as possible.

    First and foremost Id like to thank Honeymoon, Gumbo and Wilson for leading the 3 groups today. You gentlemen are the standard for F3 and your leadership today was awesome! Also hats off the all the FNGs who posted, YHC hopes to see you soon and just like some any of us have, you all become addicted to this brotherhood we have. Also want to give a shout out to the 2.0s that made it out today, you all crushed it! Lastly Strong work by all to take time out of their holiday weekend to get this morning started off right. Its an amazing sight to see this family come together from all over RVA to better ourselves mentally and physically.

    I hope you all enjoy your family time today before the summer comes to a close. I pray that each and everyone of your 2.0s have a safe and wonderful school year!

  • 42 PAX to Celebrate 243 Years

    42 Freedom Warriors posted at the 2019 edition of the F3RVA Independence Day Convergence. After everyone found a parking spot (legal or illegal), here is what went down:

    Mosey with the shovel flag to Brown’s island for COP:

    Helicopters x 15

    Don Quixotes x 10

    Imperial Walkers x 15

    Hillbillies x 15 (of course led by J’ville)

    Russian Soldiers x 15

    Merkins x 10

    LBC’s x 20

    Split PAX up into 2 groups with YHC leading a Hot Potato for group 1 and DTH leading a Hot Potato for group 2.

    Kubota’s Group:

    Head over to the WestRock building and complete a triple check. Partner one runs the steps beside the building while partners 2 and 3 conduct Partner Leg Tosses. 3 rounds. Kubota tosses the potato to Rosie.

    Rosie has us head over to the hill beside the WestRock building for a version of Love Hill. Partner up. One partner runs to the top of the hill while the other does broad jump burpees, bear crawl, lunges up the hill. Flip Flop when partners meet. Rosie tosses the potato to Wilson.

    Wilson has us do an Indigenous People Run from the top of the hill down to the entrance in front of Tredegar Iron Works. Circle up for some cross leg lifts, pickle pounders and the partner up for some sword fighting with legs. Wilson tosses the potato to White Deer.

    White Deer has us do some regular merkins in cadence, some wide grip merkins in cadence and the has us partner up for a wheel barrow race to the steps in front of Tredegar and back to the road.

    Head back over to Brown’s Island to meet up with Group 2.

    DTH’s Group:

    Line up in plank position and complete 10 no cheat merkins in cadence.

    Partner up for 11’s. Squerkins counting up from 1-10. Partner Carries across field. Partner Leg Tosses counting down from 10-1. Both partners complete every set but alternate carries in between sets. DTH tosses potato to Bodo’s.

    Bodo’s conducts a triple check at the steps. Partner 1 runs a lap around Brown’s Island. Partner 2 does dips on the steps. Partner 3 does Mt. Climbers. Bodo’s tosses the potato to Posh.

    Posh has everyone go to the T Pott bridge and complete 1 burpee every 15 paces working about halfway across bridge and back.

    Head back over to Browns’ Island and meet up with Group 1 and circle up.

    Partner up and complete 3×25 Boxing Cockroaches. Complete 2×10 Boo-Yah merkins. Complete 2×10 Plerkins.

    Various Mary exercises to close it out.

    NMS:

    YHC arrived early to find the parking lot chained off until 9:30am. Not good. Parking at the lower lot under the train tracks was hit or miss. Not many spaces unless you made your own. Everyone started to gather in the normal Convergence area and at 0700, off we went to Brown’s Island. A little bit of heat and humidity greeted us on the island as well as the sprinklers. The steps on the WestRock building are always a hit, as well as the T Pott Burpee Bridge.

    Thanks to DTH for leading his group and for all the Q’s that were tossed the potato. Welcome to the 4 FNG’s and we hope to see you back out soon.

    What a great turnout this morning and YHC hope’s that you celebrate your freedom knowing that right up the big hill to the East of where we worked out, in a little white Church, a Virginian called out the King of England and said “Give me Liberty or Give me Death!” Everyone knows what happened after that!

  • Fitting tribute

    66 PAX chose to come downtown for a beatdown and hopefully honor our fallen. 4 FNGs, a bunch of 2.0s, and 1 puppy made it truly a family affair for the 4th annual Memorial day beatdown. Here is what we did:

    Mosey to Browns Island for COP – SSH, Hillbillies, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Don Qs. Split PAX into 2 – Upchuck take 1 pax while Shakedown takes anoter.

    Upchuck lead us across Potterfield bridge with ample Burpee stops. Run back then hand off to Circle K, where we did Jacobs Ladder up and down hill. Then TYA “invented” a new Triple Check aka Patton Triple Check. It was well executed… Wilson then took Q for overly long Ring of Fire. Finish up with Triple check again and meet up with other PAX.

    Other pax – Shakedown – Box jumps on steps, Seymour with Plerkins Triple check. WaterWings with Derkins and Bear Crawl. Partner carry for Flipper Q then Swirly for make way up hill with stops for Dying Roaches, PLTs, etc. Apologies for the 2nd pax for the lack of specifics.

    NMS – YHC loves how this morning gets bigger and better each year. You’d think the hill at the end would get easier but no it is always a bear. The workout itself is always fun but finishing up at the War Memorial is really the highlight. The BOM right there is humbling for YHC.

    Even better is seeing all the 2.0s out there in the heat on a holiday. Also entering in 66 names into the BB is quite a task. Maybe Big Data can work on facial recognition and tie in with the BB site? Still a good problem to have, getting over 60 with a lot of new faces like Mouse Trap and Scrooge shows how F3RVA continues to get better.

    Naming 4 FNGs was done quickly and efficiently, plus the 4 names seemed to come up easily, maybe having Lab Rat not present makes naming easier…

    We started out with Upchuck and Shakedown, neither knew they’d be called on but took the Q and set the down. YHC learned his lesson, and apparently others have too, of not giving Swirly the Q to start lest he take the whole hour for the unsuspecting pax. Sounds like Water Wings brought it for his portion of the Q, never call on the out of town guy for the hot potato because he’ll be sure to raise the pain.

    Enjoy the rest of the holiday PAX but be sure to remember why we have the day off…

    Memorial Day convergence is again at 7:00 am at Tredegar / Belle Isle lot downtown. Later start let’s you bring a FNG.
