  • Grunge theme revisited

13 flannel clad faithful came out to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Pearl Jam’s first album and recreate the themed beatdown from 6 years ago. Ma Bell joined us from Carpex and we provided him with the chance to join in on the fun:

COP: 10 Burpees, Invisible Jumprope, Ukrainian Soldiers, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion kicks. Mosey over to penny stage and grab a coupon. Triple check: Block the Plank, Block Thrusters, and run to tree and back. Next partner up and flapjack Murder Bunny length of field alternating 5 burpees and catch up. Way back lunge with block instead.

Mosey down to the Rusty Cage: 4 sets of 8 Pullups & 10 Dips. Head down to bottom for a triple check: Heels2Heaven, Carolina, Dry docks, and run the loop. Mosey over to Love Hill – Per upchucks request fro an encore: Alternate bear crawl and 10 squats up the hill. Call audible for time and mosey back to the flag.

Announcements: Convergence on Labor Day: 7:00 am. F3RVAs 8th anniversary at Gridiron on 9/24.

NMS: Solid PAX with majority taking to the theme with Flannel shirts. Handshake complained the theme exercises were light with more trivia needed. YHC admits this was light on the trivia, instead focused on a good beatdown. Maybe standards for theme Qs are lacking and we need a section of Q school to cover this to ensure compliance.

There were difference levels of flannel with Fudd committing by thrifting one yesterday. Upchuck emerged with a flannel bathrobe then changing to a button down Oxford. Gomer Pyle wore flannel but rumor has it he had a Fugazi T-shirt on underneath. Handshake was out of place, showing up saying he listened to Grunge in elementary school and his favorite Grunge band was Silverchair. EF Hutton brought a nice flannel shirt out and had a spare to boot. Mr Rogers went Eddie Vedder style with his wrapped around his waist. T-claps to the Site Q for prompting YHC to take the Q and throw this out there. A lot of PAX have a soft-spot for Dogpile as it is the crown jewel of RVA AOs, YHC included. Seeing the success of the Crucible and Rock & Roll are great to see as well. MDPFA!!

  • Offensive Linemans Nightmare

For an lineman, a seymour Q is bad news. Using powers of persuasion we convinced Wilson to stay when he saw Seymore was the Q. Warmup with SSH, DQX, ImpWalkers, Merkins, Cherry pickers. It took wilson time to recover from the shock that he was going to have to run more than 10 yds, so we all did an extra 5 cherry pickers to help him through his microtrauma. Ran to the bridge- on the outs did 10 merkins at every light pole, on the back 20 LBCs. Ran behind the toll booth and did 3 sets of Butkuses on the curb 45s intervals followed by lineman handball squats on the curb.
Had further group counseling with wilson as to the origins of his manopause. Group therapy is good. I am sure Recall had a lot of counseling to do on the ride home with wilson.
Ran up to the field and did a welcome to the Big10 UCLA/USC 1&10- sprint 10yrds then 10 merkins, one burpee, jog back, then out to 20 and rinse and repeat with increasing intervals until the end of the field. Returned to flag

  • Do not mess with Oyster’s Dogpile

Eight RVA pax came out to Dogpile to see what a guest Q would look like. Chewy from Carpex took us to the traditional COP circle but told us to get ready for a Tabata station beatdown. 1 minute per station then 2 loops around the circle in the down minute then on to the next station. Stations were: KB swings, benchpress, skull crushers, merkins, lunge, WWIIs, curls.

50 minutes of this and then mosey back after a few burpees. COT and Chewy took us out.

NMS: Oyster came in hot with some strong feelings about the Qs plan. To be fair to Oyster Dogpile is the crown jewel of RVA and the new MDPFA movement is building momentum.

Chewy took it in stride, saying this is his thing. He does this Tabata Q on all his Qs. What is up with bald guys loving tabata and 90s metal (sorry Toga) but it turned out to be a challenging beatdown. Welcome FNG Madison County. Hardywood and Flatline were fans of the new name. Madison Co was EH’d by Chewy while he was in town.

  • Testing Wilsons patience

Perfect Triple Check numbers (9) joined for a beatdown and this is what transpired

Mosey to the Toll Booth parking lot for a COP, luckily not Toll Booth Willy came out and yelled at us. COP with various exercises.

Mosey to the Nickle Bridge for some Lightpole fun. Round 1 – 10 WWII’s and 5 HRM’s on the way out Round 2 – 20 LBC’s with 5 Merkins (every other light).

Mosey to the front of Pump House for a Triple Check with the Pipe Loop (luckily not Fire Ants this week). P1 runs the loop, P2 Squats, P3 WWI’s, 3 rounds

Mosey (powerwalk) up the hill and pasts the Doe and her Fawn to the Rusty Cage. Get in groups of 1 and do 5 Pull Ups then 10 Squats x 4 rounds.

Mosey to the Amphitheater and do The Lester, or The Lurch (Adam’s Family themed exercise) where you place your hands on the Step and you pull/jump up to the next step all the way to the top.

Mosey back to the Flag for some LBC’s and APD’s to finish

Prayer Requests – Aggie – Q-Sacks EH’er who is battling Testicular Cancer, Lab Rat and his recent scare then good news, Tryhards Sister, Pax member going through family stuff, Seymore’s family friends son, and other that has unfortunately slipped YHC’s mind.

Announcements – The Healing Place Saturday workout starts off next Saturday at 0730, see Slack for details.

NMS – Lots of people on vacation and after two weeks of no Q on Friday EF Hutton and YHC decided to do the Bash Brothers Breakfest Club/Dogpile Combo. It was nice to have Q-Sack in town. Q-Sack is from Richmond and now lives in Charlottesville. He and his wife are in town this weekend for a wedding and are checking off places and restaurants they love while they are in town. The workout was great, only minor grumblings here and there. YHC has only Q’d Dogpile twice, and it can be intimidating but the lighter numbers and new faces were great. Backblast title comes from Wilson’s Slack post wondering if this workout even happened. YHC was always told 24 hours was the expected timeframe and YHC has been on the move since 0510 this morning.

    MOLESKIN

A couple of prolific home run hitters grabbed the Q, not wanting to risk Bacon Bits dropping some awful block routine again.  The heat and humidity made life plenty awful, nonetheless.  Big Macshake was a little extra with the time, but no worries Jose Hutton was happy to hit the walk-off and steal the glory.  Heart rates were going crazy coming up the hill.  YHC won’t attest to the cleanliness of his fellow Bash Bro’s sample, but no PEDs or bacne for this guy.  Until next time, swing a big stick and swing it hard.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Prayers for Gypsy’s Uncle who passed and family

Prayers for Flatline’s friend diagnosed and quickly passed of Cancer

Prayers for Flatline as he awaits the next phase of his Army orders

Prayers for Lab Rat to get good test results

  • It was a Square J Kind of Day

Sixteen (or was it seventeen?) Saturday morning thrill seekers stretched and waited for the Q to arrive before YHC grabbed the reigns and off we went to the field in front of the carrilon for:

    COP

    • SSH x25
    • High Knees x10
    • Helicopters x10
    • DQ x10
    • Mountain Climbers x10
    • Merkins x10
    • Wilson’s Wife
    • Fudd’s Wife

    The Thang

Since we were on the field, YHC called triple check on the field. Group into threes with exercises being merkins, freddie mercuries, while the pace car bernie sanders down and back to the last tree on the right before the gap. YHC passed to Bacon Bits

Bacon Bits had us mosey to ye old stage and grab some coupons before partnering up for Dora. Exercises were 100x overhead presses, 200x squat swings, 300x curls. Pace car ran to the third tree. This took a while then Bacon passed it to Mr Rogers.

Mr Rogers led us to the triangle for a tribute to Garbage Plate. Partner up, one person runs the triangle while the other progresses through bear crawls, lunges, polar bears, broad jump burpees. Then pass to Wilson.

Wilson led us to the amphitheater for a short triple check. Merkins, LBCs, while the pace car ran up 8 steps and returned. Plenty of name combinations shouted with the most memorable being Bacon Gas. Wilson had us mosey back to the flag before passing it back to YHC (presumably because he didn’t want to write the BB).

YHC led us through 3.5 minutes of mary including American Hammers, Rosalitas, Dollys, and LBCs before finishing promptly at 07:00.

Numbers (someone was skipped), names (no one was skipped), before YHC and then Hitchhiker took us out.

    Moleskin

Many of the PAX were expecting a tire to be dropped off somewhere, which must have been why the Q wasn’t in attendance. Turns out the signed up Q just overslept. Make sure to ping him on Slack and let him know how much we appreciate him.

Great to be at Dogpile two weeks in a row. Going to have to make this a more regular thing… Great coffeeteria afterwards where we solved all problems IT related.

    SYITG!

    Mosey BTTF.

    YHC took us out.
