  • Discs with a coupon

9 merry Pax including myself descended upon the outskirts of arguably the top university in greater Henrico County to embark on some disc golf with the help of a coupon and some exercise add-ons. According to the nine of us it went like this:

COP: DQs, CPs, HRMs, FMs, ACs. Mosey with a couple of stops to the disc golf course – half mile trek. 2 carry the coupon while the others run. 25 2 count flutter kicks at the first stop with a switcheroo on the coupon. Then next stop is 25 heels to heaven. Switcheroo number two. Then 30 LBCs and on to hole 18.

Hole 18 is a straightaway 220 foot uphill hole. 10 merkins per shot. The PAX did a decent job as no one appeared to shoot worse than 4 or 5. The Q had to get help in order to find his disc. Vamos to hole #1. this is a downhill 165 foot throw around a couple of trees. This hole requires 3 burpees per shot. The Q proceeded to throw a little bit to the right but we had a mix or pars, bogeys and perhaps even a birdie. Bear crawl ~100 foot to tee 2. Same process but with 10 jump squats per shot. This hole is a bit harder so mostly bogeys and doubles. Lunge ~150 feet to hole 3. Dogleg left about 200 feet with 10 Carolina Dry Docks per shot. Much to the chagrin of Handshake, we finished after that hole since we were 10 minutes from finish time.

Mosey back with coupon and mountain climbers and plank jacks. At home base, do a burpee for total combined points on the 4 holes (I had 15). Finish with a long set of American Hammers and then a little DQ for stretching.

I was impressed with the ease of moving the coupon around. Perhaps I need to add more coupons. The PAX did better overall than December. Prayers for continued recovery for Gypsy, Lab Rat, Pinto and Blue Moon. Do great things men!

Deliverance 3 – Two Fish in the Water

Eight Kayakers and One Paddle Boarder converged at 5:00am in the brand new parking lot at the new boat ramp at Huguenot Flatwater. According to the lone fisherman on the river bank next to the ramp, this is probably what happened:

COP on nice new concrete area:

SSH’s, DQ’s, Ukrainian Soldiers, Merkins, Scorpion Kicks

    RAMP FUN:

Round 1: Bearcrawl the ramp around to the steps and run up steps.

Round 2: Lunge the ramp around to steps and run up steps.

Round 3: Left Side Shuffle the ramp around to steps and run up steps.

Round 4: Right Side Shuffle the ramp around to steps and run up steps.

    DORA on new boat ramp/dock:

Partner up with one boat. Timer paddles to the middle of the river and paddles back. Other partner is completing LBC’s on dock. Second round, exercise partner is completing Squats.

    Main Event:

Everyone grab their boat and head upriver. At the first crop of rocks, practice Life-Saving 101 to a couple of the PAX (not naming names) who, in the slowest of motions, turned their boats over and went completely under the water. Rest of PAX yells “Fish in the Water!!” Recover the Fish and keep heading upriver around the bend to get a great view of the Willey Bridge and Bosher Dam. With 20 minutes to spare, turn around and head downriver into the awesome sunrise. Take a few minutes to enjoy the fellowship, scenery and God’s creation!

Dock the boats at exactly 6:00am for COT:

Numbers, Names, Announcements and Upchuck took us out!

    NMS:

What a wonderful morning for this! YHC thought last year had perfect weather and river conditions for this workout, but this year was even better! We were the first people to use the brand new parking lot that was just finished yesterday evening. The sandbar is no more, so the exercising had to be completed on the newly built ramp/dock complex. What a nice new complex for river enthusiasts to enjoy! There were a few tricky moments during the DORA when partners were switching out of their boats, but no big issues. The PAX that did not wear gloves really enjoyed the bear crawls on the somewhat jagged concrete ramp. On the beginning on the main paddle upriver, two of the PAX flipped over to the left and went completely under. Fortunately, recovery of these two unnamed PAX went well and the paddle eventually continued on. There was a hard, fast paddle upriver until it was time to turn around and ease back down to the VSF (dock). A few of the PAX bottomed out on some rocks along the way but managed to free themselves without any issues. 100% attendance at coffeeteria afterwards. PERFECT MORNING!

Thanks for posting this morning, men!

    Enjoy your day!

  • The Cone Zone

The SOJ takeover continues with the PAX placing bets on who would be the Q on this jungle-humid June morning. Kubota took the prize – it was YHC.

Warmups – 25 Don Quixotes to go for the record. 20 Imperial squat walkers. Mirkins, LBCs, Rosalitas and some other nonsense. That’s the thing about First Watch, it’s early enough to pretend like we don’t remember exactly what happened.

Bear crawl centipede with a very long route snaking up and down the stairs, through the hall and up the ramp, them down the stairs again.

Mosey around back for a triple check with the timer running to the far end of the lot, WW2s and squat thrusters using 2 traffic cones we found. YHC told the story about how after years of taking pictures of his kids with cones on their heads, people continue to send him cone pictures every week. True story.

Next up, harking back to the bottle flip craze of the late 20-oughts, we each took a try launching a cone into the air. If it landed right-side up, monkey humpers. If not, burpees. Needless to say we did a lot of burpees. The PAX was grumbling about the number of burpees so YHC took an audible and did 10 more burpees OYO.

Triple check from the side of the church with the timing running up the hill to the front, wall sit toe touch arm raises (commonly called LaLannes), and flutter kicks.

Up the hill to the front for 45 mirkins OYO. Back across the street to the parking lot for a long bar crawl with dips. Jump through the V tree and back to the flag.

Thanks for having me out – as Splinter says, there’s nothing better than that 5am sense humor. It just has a different feeling.

    COT.

2nd F at Starbucks to start the day off right.

    Peace.

  • I Won’t Take It Personally

Four, that’s right 4, of the highest scholars briefly complained about the cost of used cars before we realized it was 5:00am. Mosey to the northeast corner of the back parking lot for:

    COP

    • 20x Invisible jump ropes
    • 10x Helicopters
    • 15x Imperial Walkers
    • 10x Shoulder Taps
    • 10x Mountain Climbers
    • 20x LBCs
    • 10x American Hammers

    The Thang

Continue our mosey northward to a left on University. About halfway down University there were a few grunts and groans but general displeasure was withheld until we reached the bottom of University for 11s. Merkins & jump squats at the bottom and top of the hill. Bro code every two sets to make sure we left no one behind.

Short mosey down Ralston stopping at Kingsbury for Splinter’s Triangle of Terror. Form a triangle at each point of the intersection. The 4th person bear crawls from station 1 to station 2 and that person continues the bear crawl to the next station. We went counter clockwise. Stations were burpees, squats, WWIIs. We did 3 complete rounds.

Catch me if you can up Kingsbury to Gaymont. 5 merkins then catch your partner who is bernieing up the hill.

South on Gaymont, stopping at the toothbrush swing for a final round of 11s. HRMs & WWIIs.

BTTVSF where we did flutters and finished with Last Call leading shavasana.

Numbers, names, various announcements, and YHC took us out.

    Moleskin

There must have been some sort of convergence somewhere else that YHC didn’t know about as all but YHC + 3 of the regulars (and no visitors) were ready to launch at 0500. Excluding takeover week and ad-hoc broga sessions, this was the smallest First Watch since October. Clearly wasn’t because YHC was on the Q sheet.

We witnessed a cat fight (not the good kind) as we were traversing back on Gaymont. Discussion ensued as to whether or not a owl could attack a cat or not.

    Until next time.

  • Beware the flying Peacocks

Ten strong came out to start of their June off right with a warm weather beatdown. It went like this:

COP in church front: SSH, don Qs, Hillbillies, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey to back parking lot: Dora 123: 100 Burpees, 200 Flutterkicks, 300 Jump Squats.

Mosey back to Coupon drop zone and partner up again. 4 rounds of partner running loop while other did: 15 blocks swings, 20 Bench press, 20 Alabama Softball players. Switch partners and 3 rounds of everyone’ favorite: Block the Plank while other pax does 15 Heels2Heaven. Put coupons back, 2 min of Mary & Ring of Fire.

Annoucements: Bridge this Saturday morning. Clown car from West end leaving around 6:00 at Food Lion on Patterson. Let YHC know if you are in. Prayers for IR group, especially Blue Moon on his surgery today.

NMS: Plenty of sweat this morning. The 100 burpees for the Dora were met with applause. Shiplap is on his way to becoming a First Watch regular, and may be due an invite to the infamous FW text thread. Coffee afterward was 7 strong and where the BB title comes from. YHC had to audible on the coupon section since the site Q said we had ample coupons but not a consistent size.

  • Tour de Tuckahoe

Eight musky gringos took Riverside Drive by storm before the awakening. A dewey mist encapsulated the posh neighborhood. These are the tales that were spread by the engineer of the 527 freighter out of Toledo.

Short mosey to the corner of the parking lot for warmarama that included Invisible Jump Rope, Helicopters, DQ’s, Jazzercise, Dead Man Hang and Arm Circles. Everyone awake, lets roll:

    The THANG:

Indigenous People Run down River Road to Highland. Rear sprints to the front and sets the pace. Luckily only a few motorists out mostly from the opposite direction.

Mailbox Roulette: Mosey down Highland Brocode style. 10 merkins for every mailbox on the right, 10 imperial squat walkers for every mailbox on the left. More residents on the left.

Partner Up on Westham Station: Runner runs to the 2nd no parking sign while partner performs various mobile exercises: bear crawl, lunges with a twist, broad jumps. This was so much fun we did it twice to make it to the corner of Westham and South Ridge.

South Ridge Lindsay: Back to the flag brocode style. At each intersection perform 40 reps of Carolina Dry Docks and LBC’s.

Still time on the clock? Mankillers: Time to get tone for SOJ takeover in a couple weeks. No sissy scorpion kicks or escalating four corners is allowed on the more cultured side of the James.

Time was called. Names, Numbers, Announcements, Prayers – Upchuck took us out.

Convergence on Monday at 7 – Brown’s Island. Ruck begins at 6.

Prayers for those families in Texas. Hold your family and friends today. Tell them you love them just so they know.

NMS: Great mumble chatter today. Good to see Shiplap out and about while House Party really making F3 work for him. Upchuck and Handshake brought both up to speed on First Watch traditions that occur on the regular. Hope to see you both again for the earliest and most entertaining AO. Thank you brothers for the opportunity to lead as it was good to see the happenings of the First Watch neighborhood.

  • First Watch Trio

Three FW Regulars attacked a different feeling FW workout this morning with many regulars Q’ing elsewhere because of Tuckahoe Takeover, one being on the IR, or just plain ole Fartsacking! Either way, here is what transpired for these three amigos:

    COP on church patio:

SSH’s, Helicopters, DQ’s, LBC’s, Suzanne Somers L & R, Box Cutters, Dead Man Hang, Reach for the Stars.

Enough, let’s mosey up Ridge to Pinetree.

On Pinetree, 5 merkins for every sedan, 5 WW2’s for every SUV, 5 Monkey Humpers for every mini-van, 5 Burpees for every trailer.

On University, complete a Triple Check: Run up University to Pinetree and back, Jump Squats, Carolina Dry Docks.

Head over to the lake and cross footbridge over to the island.

    Grab a bench: 10 x Incline Merkins, 10 x Step-ups, 10 x Dips, 10 x Decline Merkins

    Grab a tree: 10 x Pole Smokers, 10 x Wilson’s Boxing Cockroaches

Mosey back over footbridge and up the hill to the Amphitheatre.

Start at bottom and head up the steps alternating with 5 Monkey Humpers at one step then 5 Squats at next step.

Head through campus back towards VSF with a traveling Lindsay: Heels to Heaven and LBC’s

Stop at Saab’s driveway for a little Honeymoon Suite action: Alabama Prom Dates, Wilson’s wife, Fudd’s wife, Saab’s wife and Pickle Pounders.

Back to VSF for Numbers, Names, Announcements and YHC took us out!

    2.8 miles

    Announcements:

HDHH at The Answer this evening at 5:30

SOJ Takeover in a few weeks

    The Bridge on June 4

    Blood Drive on June 4

Prayers for Honeydo’s back and Splinter’s 2.0’s injuries.

    NMS:

What a gorgeous morning for a running beatdown! Light numbers were expected but it was no less entertaining than a regular FW oversharing beatdown, even though the main oversharers were not present. The owls around the lake were definitely creating some oversharing stories of their own. Baseball was a subject for the third day in a row for Splinter, as was running. Last Call was excited that YHC took us off campus yet again for another running workout. A UR student, professor, groundskeeper or visitor obviously has an ear wax problem with all of the Q-Tips that were on the island in the middle of the lake.

Nice work this morning, Splinter and Last Call! Enjoyed the fellowship!

YHC will be Q’ing for Tuckahoe Takeover the rest of the week somewhere. Stay tuned….

  • Make the most of your 7 minutes

A lighter than normal group of 6 gathered today for a beatdown. 0500 hit and no Q so we launched for a Hot Potato.

Kubota – COP complete the some SOJ-esque exercises

Splinter – Tabata around the neighborhood. We started with 20 seconds of exercising then 20 seconds of running then switched to 30 seconds and 30 seconds

Bacon Bits – Triple Check lasting the complete 7 minutes, but not a second longer

Handshake – Block work: Curls, Pulls, Standing Block American Hammers, Triceps Curls, Presses. After 7 minutes YHC opted to blow past the 7 minute limitation and press on. Light stretching at the end because there was no Broga today.

Announcements – Kubota is planning a HDHH for Wednesday, May 11th. Likely to be at The Answer. Pigskins Blood Drive on Saturday, June 4th. The Bridge in Dillwyn on Saturday, June 4th. See Slack for any and all information.

Prayer Request – Upchuck and his family with the loss of his Aunt. Labrat with starting his treatments. Tryhards sister. Ukraine.

NMS – everyone was geared up for a Corned Beef Q but there was no Corned Beef, we hope he’s ok.

Blackblast title comes from a great Bacon Bits overshare story. Only those who post truly know what it means.
