River Road & Ridge

  • Look Deep into My Eyes

7 intrepid enthusiasts escaped the clutches of the fartsack to embrace the Tuckahoe cold for the early workout. Here is a brief summary of tales that were told according to the boisterous K-9 in the distant gloom.

Mosey to the front of the church for introductions, disclaimers and warm ups that included DQ’s, Invisible Jump Rope, Jazzercise, Dead Man Hang, Freddies and Suzanne Summers. Continue on to the cooler side of the church.

Booyah Ladder: Partner up and perform 12 booyah merkins. Upon completion, 1 partner runs to the van and returns, while the other partner performs WW2s. After reuniting, perform 11 booyah merkins and switch. Continue this routine to 1 booyah merkin (switched from WW2’s to Lt. Dans halfway thru). Good times had by all.

4 Corners: 10 Ball Dippers, 20 American Hammers, 30 Carolina Dry Docks, 40 Monkey Humpers. 2nd round increase each exercise by 5.

11’s: Mosey to the special use parking lot. 1 donkey kick, bearcrawl to opposite side, 10 merkins, lunge back. Continue as normal 11’s go.

Mosey back to First Watch Parking Lot for 4 corners: 10 WW2’s, 20 American Hammers, 30 Flutters, 40 LBC’s.

Still time on the clock? Merkin Ring of Fire, followed by some light stretching.

    Numbers, Names, Announcements:

    YHC took us out

Frozen Triangle Jan. 21. Need HC for volunteers and mouths to feed.

NMS: Lite chatter this morning was made up by the constant song of the neighboring K-9 that applauded the Pax for the entire workout. Neighborhood HOA should file a complaint. Other topics discussed included home values along Tacky Light tours, proper etiquette for Suzanne Summers and tractor repairs. Coffee followed for some but good times as always on the watch.

  • Going on a Walkabout

Thirteen early gloom knuckleheads, a third of whom gathered even earlier, convened in the church parking lot for the first First Watch of ’23. After Ronnie and Last Call traded t-shirts, we took a quick counter clockwise mosey around the parking lot before circling up for:

    COP

    • SSH x20
    • Arm Circles x15
    • Helicopters x10
    • Copperhead Squats x5
    • Prisioner Squats x10
    • Reverse Crunches x10
    • Mountain Climbers x10

    The Thang

Extremely short mosey to South Ridge. The name of the game was left, right, or left & right. Mosey the big loop down South Ridge, up Highland, left on River back to the AO. Every time we come to a crossroad, we did 20 of 3 different exercises.

    • Left and a right turn: air presses, squats, LBCs
    • Left turn only: shoulder tap merkins, lunges, WWIIs
    • Right turn only: hand release merkins, tuck jumps, flutter kicks (audible to 2 count after the first round)

BTTVSF where ample announcements were made before YHC took us out.

    Announcements

    Moleskin

Thanks to the PAX for sticking with the theme today. As Bodo’s proclaimed, it was a high cardio workout. For those counting at home, 7 L/R, 3 L, 3 R and ~1.75 miles. By all accounts, the PAX enjoyed it.

Some of the PAX especially enjoyed the tucking practice during tuck jumps. Flo may have lost a ball so be on the lookout.

    Splinter out.

  • Please nobody lick the Coupons

Eight eager PAX posted to First Watch to find several coupons lovingly deposited by THE BEST site Q in all RVA. A few morons posted for Broga but the rest of us took off at 5:00:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Reverse Crunch, Scorpion kicks.

THE THANG: Mosey to RRbC back lot to start with 4 Corners: 10 Merkins, 20 WWIIS, 30 CCDs, 40 Jump Squats. 2nd Round: HRMs, Monkey Humpers, Squats, & something else. Partner Up and Wheelbarrow across and back with partner. Go grab coupons and mosey to Henrico’s smallest park: Block the Plank & HRMs, 3 rounds. Switch partners and run road to light and back while doing Block Thrusters. Back to coupon drop zone, gather other 3 and circle up for block stations. 8th man is timer with 10 burpees. Annoucements and YHC took us out.

NMS: Great to have Wedding Singer and Whittler join the regulars. Our trusty site Q texted YHC at 3:57 am that he was dropping coupons off but couldn’t post since he was sick. That is dedication. YHC considered a gift after Xmas but everyone’s gift will be printing and in the mail to them soon as the FW order is fulfilled.

  • Field Trip to Jenkins

8 HIM swallowed the red pill and posted at First Watch seeking a better version of themselves. Here’s what transpired:

COP at the NE corner of the parking lot to wait for any stragglers:

SSH’s, Imperial Walkers, Ukranian Soldiers, Merkins, Copperhead Squats

Mosey down River to a left on Westham. Assume plank position in front of #2 Westham Parkway for 86 seconds to honor the life of Fred Dabney, known to several PAX, who passed a few days ago and who’s funeral was yesterday. Fred lived 86 years on this earth and lived them big.

Mosey to the UR campus and over to the bottom of the Jenkins Greek Theater

Ascending the steps, do 1 merkin on the first step, 2 WW2’s on the second, 3 merkins on the third, 4 WW2’s on the 4th, etc. all the way to the top (17th step) and Al Gore for the six. Descend in the same fashion starting with 17 2 count Mountain Climbers, then 16 squats. Plank for the 6.

Mosey down Westhampton Way, past the fountain in front of the Booker Hall of Music, to partner up on the bricks in front of Keller Hall for Dora 1-2-3. One partner runs the triangle in the quad while the other does 100 merkins, 200 squats, & 300 LBC’s.

Mosey back to the VSF. Plank for the 6. 1 burpee for each PAX. Numberama, namerama, Handshake took us out.

    NMS:

Lockjaw was supposed to Q today but he bailed last minute with symptoms of some sickness. YHC was not prepared with Christmas gifts but was able to throw together a field trip beatdown that at least got everyone breathing hard. In lieu of gifts, YHC treated the PAX to coffee/tea at Starbucks afterwards. Thanks for letting me lead guys. It’s an honor and a pleasure every time.

Merry Christmas to all, and never stop chasing the Wabbit!

    Announcements:

    • HDHH at Final Gravity (in Lakeside) tonight

    • Frozen Triangle CSAUP in January
  • Lots of Holiday Cheer for Burpees

A hearty crew of 10 emerged from the gloom to celebrate the season of giving at First Watch. A quick reminder not to hurt ourselves, and we moseyed to the parking lot for COP – SSH, Don Quixote, Ukrainian Soldiers, LBCs, Arm Circles, and Merkins.

We split into pairs for a DORA – 100 merkins, 200 reverse crunches, and 300 squats.

Next, over to the church for three sets of wall sits and 20 dips.

Then, off to the back of the church for 4 corners (10 burpees, 20 merkins, 30 monkey humpers, and 40 two count flutters). It was so much fun, that we did it again with 5 additional reps added to each corner.

On the way back to the Flag, we did 2 burpees for each candle in the church. There was much rejoicing for the additional burpees. We bear crawled up the hill and then moseyed to the Flag.

A ring of fire was conducted with LBCs, American Hammers, and merkins.

Numberama, Nameorama, and the Q took us out. Gifts were handed out in the form a Redneck survival kit (a Coors Banquet Beer, 2 slim jims, and a lottery ticket).

    MOLESKIN

Another Christmas, another opportunity to test one’s fitness.  Fudd was 6 seconds shy of completion.  Thus, YHC perfectly timed the COP.  Last Call reached the round of Burpees, not sure if any others got that close, or if they just settled into the suck and avoided the big finish.  Either way, YHC will put this one away for another year.  The payoff was baked goods and Fair Life Chocolate Magic.  Special thanks to Kubota for bringing the blocks.  The First Watch Season of Giving continues.

    NMS:

SZN of GVN has begun at First Watch! Those who know, know! YHC foresees Miatas and Kidneys as future gifts to the pax. Light numbers this morning only meant more goodies for the ones who posted.

Ronnie never got his back wet, somehow, and Handshake wonders if YHC ever really works 🙂

In a couple weeks, be on the lookout for Santa in a Miata.

YHC enjoys kicking off the SZN of GVN for the second or third(?) year in a row! Spreading Christmas cheer has always been a favorite of YHC’s, ever since a little boy. This is definitely the best time of the year, but let’s be mindful of those who have a lot of stress or bad memories/lost loved ones during this season.

Way to work this morning, fellas!

    SYITG!

Be on the lookout for a recruiting effort. And, thank you to those helping with Breaking Bread this weekend.

    UpChuck spits the bit.
