  • Es ist heiss

Probation pulled up as we were circling up for the first COP in the parking lot. We added Homer and Gypsy, having done a pre-run, after the 5 minutes of Burpees and Blue Moon came towards the end to make sure standards were being maintained while he’s recovering from knee surgery.

Fireman Ed called the next exercise as he has memorized my routine. (I have certain ‘sets’ I do so I don’t have to carry a weinke around.) For that matter, Whitesnake also predicted the BTTW routine. Mariner dragged the average age down considerably. All in all, a total of 13 today.

    It went like this.

20 SSHs, 10 MM Merkins, 15 Knee-ups, (all in cadence), stretch

    Mosey to nearby pull-up bars

20 IWs, 10 diamond Merkins, 15 Crunchy Frogs (all in cadence), stretch

5 minutes of Burpees, stretching exercise

    Using Pull-up bars:

11s with Pull-ups and Bulgarian Split Squats at picnic tables, stretching exercise

Back to football field near fence

10 Romanian Leg Lift (in cadence) Left leg then right leg

    Football field

Burpee/Broad Jump to 30-yard line, stretching exercise

    Jog to end

11s with get ups and Ukrainian HRMs, stretching exercise

Jog to Wall in front of school

15 People’s Chair air press, 10 BTTW Hip slaps, (all in cadence), 15 donkey kix

15 People’s Chair milkers, 10 BTTW Australian Mountain Climbers (all in cadence), 15 donkey kix

15 People’s Chair la-lanes, 10 BTTW toe taps (all in cadence), 15 donkey kix

    Stretching exercise

    Mosey back to football field

Bear crawl/Crab walk to Midfield alternating every 10 yards

    Mosey to parking lot

20 Flutters, 20 Rosalitas (all in cadence), 6-inch leg lift to count of 60.

    Announcements

August 6 at 7:30, SOJ, The Crucible, supporting Healing Hands. More information on Slack

10-year anniversary of Gridiron coming up. More information to come on this. Please invite those who have dropped off.

The heat made it a tough day today.

You don’t always know what those around you are going thru. If you are struggling physically, from an injury, it’s fairly obvious. But if your situation at work or at home is bad, it’s not so obvious. So please reach out to a brother and provide support. You might be making a difference to someone.

  • Talkative FNG

7 Regulars, 1 Semi-Regular, 1 New Regular and 1 FNG descended upon the sunny confines of northwest Henrico for a summer beatdown. Tater embarked on a new strategy of greeting the FNG with a bro hug. Me thinks they have known each other awhile. Probation, one of our semi-regulars invited him to Gridiron.

COP: DQs, CPs, HRMs, FMs and Supermen. Mosey to second field.

    11s: HRMs and WWIIs.

Partner wheelbarrows, 25 2 count flutters at each side of the field. Mosey to parking lot on way to front of school.

4 corners: 10 burpees, 20 jump squats, 30 2 count mountain climbers, 40 SSHs. Mosey to pavilion near home base.

Lindseys with derkins and one count step ups. Each set required a job to the goal post and back. Mosey to home base wall.

Triple checks (2), 1 was wall sit coupon presses, 2 – heels to heaven 3 – run around the parking lot. Second triple check was 1 – coupon bicep curls, 2 – elbow plank and 3 – run to benches and 20 LBCs (in honor of J’ville).

Finished with a stretch and counterama.

Prayers for Lab rat, Pinto, Blue Moon, J’ville and anyone else with COVID and/or on the IR. The title comes from our FNG – Will Call (had to do with a side ticket business) aka Xavier aka Mike or Mikey. Although he struggled at a couple parts of the workout he came in with gusto. Welcome aboard. Good luck to Mariner on his baseball tournament. Also, I found out that White Deer owns a white shirt. Thanks to HoneyDo for leading the Bridge today and for you all letting me lead.

    Do great things!

Great work from the PAX.  As usual, White Deer had some smart @$$ comments.  Gypsy kept whining.  Pigskin counted in a different language.  Good to be home!   Strong efforts from Bedpan and Mariner, and good to see Blue Moon hobble in at the end to see the PAX.

Convergence on Monday at Batteau AO.  Check Slack and social media details.  Tater is hosting folks on the 4th, but really it is just dudes that want to drink beer.  You might want to reach out to him if women and children will want to attend.

Prayers for those recovering, including Gomer Pyle’s COVID family.

God is good all of the time!

YHC has been to all these AO’s but it was during the Summer Tour a couple years ago, YHC has never Q’ed them in the past. This week has been an honor and a blessing to get out away from my normal PAX and visit with brothers that I haven’t seen in quit some time. Thank you for letting me join you this week.

  • Hot Bods

A great eight posted for the most recent GridIron session. Meet at the usual spot in the Pouncey Tract Park parking lot, then mosey a short distance across the lot for starting COP – SSHs, IWs, DQs, Helicopters, Carolina Dry Docks, Suzanne Somers(es), Arm Circles, and the like.

Resume the mosey and grab a spot on the rubber mat at the playground for conventional Super 21. One Merkin followed by one WWII Sit Up. Then two of each. And so on up to 21 with a few breaks with other exercises after 5, 10, 15, and 18.

Jog to the bars and break into two groups. One guy from each group completes a Pull Up and count, together, to 10 while the remaining guys hold plank on the outskirts. Rotate through each group three times.

Saunter to the outside, right field edge of the nearby baseball field. Starting at the fence pole inside the right field foul pole, line up and complete three Pole Smokers at each fence post. Around center field, the terrain was all gravel, so we adjusted to completing three Reverse Crunches in the nearby grass at each pole. Stop at the left field foul pole.

Find another pole along the edge of the left field and complete a few rounds of People’s Chair variations with base, right leg raised, and left leg raised.

Mosey back to the start for a few minutes of LBCs and finish with some stretching.

Nice work guys. Most of us made it to the Lauderdale and Broad Starbucks for coffee. Apparently our group missed an opportunity to move an outside umbrella for a female patron and she called us on this. We tried to make amends by moving another umbrella for another female patron. Overall we weren’t good enough. Or maybe we were.

  • Dropping the Average Age

Holiday weekends can bring out the 2.0s.  YHC adolescent 2.0 was headlocked by the M, and as a result, got a grade A beat-down as a part of his 4-day weekend.  Here is how it went down:

      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • Jazzercises
      • Merkins
      • LBC
      • Suzanne Somers
    • Mosey to the basketball court behind the school for a 4 corners with 10, 15, 20 and 25 reps of an exercise plus a version of an arch loader on the short sides of the multiple courts (running on the long end)
      • HRM and bear crawls
      • Crab cakes and crab walks
      • WWII sit-ups and lunges
      • Hammers and duck walks
    • Mosey to the front of the school for a 3x check with run, Australian mountain climbers and flutter kicks
    • Mosey back to the pavilions for a descending ladder of step-ups (each leg) and dips – 20, 15, 10, and 5 reps (with 30 dips accompanying the 5 step-ups)
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Great work from the PAX today, including Mariner.  When you trade Pigskin for Mariner, the average age of the PAX at Gridiron is transformed; no longer the senior citizen AO. Enjoyed the 3rd F afterwards at Starbucks where Blue Moon joined the PAX.

Prayers for Lighthouse as his father passed this week.  Continue prayers for Lab Rat and other PAX members who are healing injuries, including Blue Moon who has surgery this week.

Convergence on Monday at 7 am at Tredegar.

God is good all of the time!

  • May-Day, May-Day…Man Down

13 men met this morning at Grid Iron, pre summer heat. Some may have wished they stayed home?

After a brief warm up we headed to the fields for some cardio with “Thunder-Burpee”…burpees for every time ACDC’s Thunderstruck said “Thunder”. Unfortunately after one burpee we lost Polly.

Then it was time for core. After sets of 20 of Freddy Mercury’s, Mercury Freddy’s, Crunchy Frog we Bear Crawled our way for another set of 20 of Reverse Crunches, Heals to Heaven, and WWII’s with a twist…and then Bear Crawled for another set of 20 V-Up Roll Ups…followed by Bear Crawl and 20 Side Crunches and Ukrainian Hammers. Gomer injured his shoulder but fought on. Finished core with some 7’s of Get-Ups and Merkins. Lost PigSkin to some unknown injury (get better, my friend).

Time for shoulders with Jacob’s Ladder of Carolina Dry Docks and Air Presses. Then time for legs with a Triple-Check of Squats, Lunges, and Runs. Had to work arms so we did 7’s of Pull Ups and Dips.

Finally ended with a Ring of Fire. It was a good morning with these fine men…and then we got to meet up with our fallen brother, Pinto, for coffee!
