Tuckahoe Elementary

  • wet and dark on the outside, dry and sunny within

Ten men too legit to quit started a new week in the dark at Hoedown. Conditions were wet in the drizzle but the pax were dry in our hearts. Here’s what went down:

COP after a long mosey to the back office lot at 513 Forest Ave. COP which included the standard fare, ending in Merkin Jax 1:4 ratio : 1 merkin, 4 plank jax, 2 merkins, 8 plank jax, up to 5/20 and all the way back down. Mosey to middle Third parking lot.

Triple Check #1: P1 Block Thrusters // P2 American Hammers // Parter 3 run the lot

Triple Check #2: P1 Mountain Climbers // P2 Reverse Crunches // Partner 3 Murder Bunny across the lot and back. Mosey back to TES

11s: 10 Burpees. Bernie sanders up the slope. 1 WW2 with feet against fence. Continue with 9 and 2, and so forth. This proved to be difficult and painful.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Prayers for Splinter’s dad today for his pacemaker procedure. Thanks guys for coming out in the wet!

  • In Remembrance

Sixteen of the finest Pax anywhere came out to get the job done.

Mosey to the sea of asphalt for COP. There were an assortment of exercises including SSH, cherry pickers, Don Quixote, etc.

Number off into groups of three and off to the bus loop. Team one did step ups and essentric down-steps. Team two, the pacers, did 11’s (Bulgarian squats, Derkins). Team three did Lindsays (donkey kicks, box cutters). Everyone rotated through the three challenges.

Round 2 – Stair climbs, 3×8 jerkins (timer), and lunge walk.

BTTW and dualing chicken peckers followed by some Mary before launching into some Broga.

YHC took us out with a moment of silence.

  • The Great Pig Race of Life

12 Soggy Bottom Boys escaped from the chain gang of sweet slumber and set out in search of treasure. Set to the sounds of one of the greatest soundtracks ever did sung.

Big Rock Candy Mountain warmarama SSHs, rapid fire DQs, squats, cherry pickers, Imperial walkers, mirkins, LBCs, etc etc.

Men of Constant sorrow triple check, timer runs and the others do flutterkicks and squats.

Down to the river to pray with another triple check, timer bear crawls up the ramp and the others do plank jacks and WW2s until the sirens turned Senor Frog into a horny toad.

Bodos had a great story about the Chesterfield County Fair and an illusionist who made a girl named Dixie disappear. There was also a pig race involved. It was at this point that the Coen Brothers themed Q went off the rails.

It was decided to do A Great Pig Relay Race in honor of the new parking lot arrows. Teams of 3 bear crawled around the arrows while oinking with ferocity. A teacher pulled into the parking lot and parked right in the middle of the entire spectacle. And still, the race went on. A last minute push by Donald Rumproast to defeat Hilary Bacon in a repeat of the the 2016 Virginia state fair. YHC is clearly high on the hog.

Winning team only had to do clockwork mirkins while the others did clockwork burpees until we gave up. A little boat canoe to wrap it up.

Thanks for indulging YHC – good times were had and lots of laughs rang out. Gratitude to be out there with each other, working hard. The treasure was found – it was the good times we had along the way. Remember to keep on the sunny side of life.

  • Back to the Grind

11 Monday marauders started the week in the dark at Hoedown. Here’s what went down:

COP in the first Third Church parking lot: standard fare. Mosey to the other side of the church to the Loop Lot.

    7. Block Curls (80)
    8. Block Thrusters (60)

At 6:11, YHC called for a stop, and the whole PAX did 10 Burpees OYO. Mosey back to the flag. COP with Flutterkicks until time called.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Wanted to grind the pax as we all get back to the grind of the fall routines. Took this one out of the Hutton-exicon with a few small changes. No one got through all 10 exercises, thus the 10 burpee requirement at the end. Prayers for students and teachers heading back to the school today!

  • You Rock

How does one ensure they will not fartsack on a Monday you ask? Sign up for the open Hoedown Q. 5 studs of Tuckahoe got their week started with an early morning sweatfest. This is how things went down according to the runner in Christmas lights shouting at the passing PAX.

Mosey to church VIP lot for introductions, signing of waivers and brief description of what we are doing. Warmups included SSH, Helis, DQ’s, Copperhead Squats, HR Merkins and Freddie Mercuries. All seemed loose with the sweat flowing, so lets begin.

COP 1: Mosey to the parking lot edge for 11’s. Jump Squats and Merkins were the exercise of choice.

COP 2: Mosey to the commoners church parking lot to grab some prearranged coupons. Quintuple Check ensued. Timer runs the loop, everyone else in on the blocks with swings, squat thrusts, curls for the ladies and chest press. 3 rounds were a plenty. Return the coupons to the wilderness and lunge walk to the road.

COP 3: Mosey to the grassy fields of TES for a triple check. Timer runs to the monkey bars and performs 10 knee raises. Partner does Balls to the Wall (modified to LBC’s after 1st round) and Hoedowns. 3 rounds completed. BTTVF.

NMS: Great to be back at Hoedown. For 3 weeks YHC has planned to come out but the Monday morning fartsack is a tough cookie to break, so YHC took to open Q to ensure attendance. Great mumble chatter about weekend travels, day drinking, summer ending and real estate. Good luck to all those students and teachers heading back to school this week. Great work today fellas.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

A few weeks left to complete the summer tour

    Pickleball tourney is coming soon

  • NBA Senior League

Eight PAX who probably shouldn’t be playing basketball (except maybe Splinter) hit the court this morning in a rather comfortable temperature. According to the early morning Kanawha swimmers who were wondering why 8 grown men were playing basketball at 0550, this is what went down.

After admiring the freshly paved asphalt hill and lower playground area of TES, mosey to the front of the school for:

Dead Man Hang, Reach for the Sky, DQ’s, Helicopters, Jazzercizes, There was some chatter about backs needing to be loosened up, so, down on the ground for Scorpion Kicks.

With backs now loosened up, mosey toward Kanawha Rec. Assoc. with a travelling Lindsey (Carolina Dry Docks and Two-Count Flutter Kicks)

After reaching the KRA parking lot, line up on one side for Curb Crawls 1-5 Merkins on the ends with Bear Crawls in between. Switch up with 4-1 Jump Squats on the ends with Lunges in between.

Mosey to the bottom of the parking lot and collect a strategically placed basketball and head into the Kanawha field to the hoops court. Next exercise is removing the soccer goals, trash cans and saw horses from the court. This was strenuous.

Time for a quick game of 4 on 4! Captains are the youngest (Faceplant) and oldest (Pigskin, duh!) PAX members who were there.

Faceplant, Wedding Singer, Kubota and Senor Frog versus Pigskin, Splinter, Pucker and Tater

Splinter dominated early, YHC hit an early three, Singer made a basket or two, Splinter comes down from 10 feet up to land wrong on his left ankle, Time was called, play resumed, Tater made a shot or two, Faceplant ran a good point and passed a lot, Pucker is a defensive stud, Senor Frog intercepts passes, Splinter comes back into the game, YHC tries to break Splinter’s ankles with his dribbling skills, YHC loses ball out of bounds, Splinter yells “How do you like that defense!, Pigskin is playing basketball at age 70, enough said!

Mosey back towards the shovel flag with another travelling Lindsey (LBC’s and Squats)

Two minute elbow plank at the flag to wrap things up!

Numbers, Names, Announcements and YHC took us out!

    NMS:

This was a workout that YHC ran back from last August for his birthday, but working out on KRA’s field was replaced with some hoops. Everything else was somewhat similar, except Splinter hurting his ankle. Heal up! The lap swimmers at KRA had some entertainment to keep them distracted from actually swimming laps (who would want to swim laps at 0530 in the morning, besides Fudd??)

It’s always fun to try to be a kid again and play the types of games we incorporate into our workouts, like basketball, pickleball, ultimate, etc., but we also need to realize that we are not still kids and to listen to our bodies. While this morning was fun, we probably shouldn’t have done it. Let me back up, YHC probably shouldn’t have Q’d it.

Anyway, we got a workout in and we missed some of the Hoedown regulars who were fartsacking 🙂

YHC with the Q at HBR tomorrow. Come join the fun! No Basketball 🙂

Way to work this morning, men, and SYITG!

    Kubota

  • Emotional damage

Mosey to West Drive Circle for a Triple Check – P1 WW2’s, P2 Squats, P3 runs the circle.

Indigenous Peoples Run back to the school.

Triple Check2 – P1 Flutter Kicks, P2 Wall Sits, P3 Bernie Sanders the circle

Indigenous Peoples Wall Sits – Everyone lines up in Balls to the Wall position and person 1 Bear Crawls and when they reach the end person 2 starts, each person runs to the end of the line and Wall Sits until everyone has finished.

Finish with 3 minutes of Mary.

Announcements – Last Frisbee of the season this Saturday led by Oyster and sponsored by the Gridiron Gang. Pickleball Tournament led by Hitchhiker August 26th?

NMS – last night at approximately 2045 hours the Q sheet was empty was empty so YHC decided to sign up. YHC figured a light attendance with so many summer vacations happening but we ended up with a solid number. It was good to see Showcase again from Bristol. Fudd attended too.

  • Coming soon

Eleven eager PAX came out to see the pre-launch of the new & improved Hornydo. Upchuck confirmed that the humidity in the Gloom made him feel like home at the Clinic. We did:

COP in Bodos lot: SSH, Don Qs, Ukrainian Soldiers, Pickle pounders, Reverse Crunches, Merkins, Scorpion kicks. Mosey to the 3rd back lot. Dora 123 of: 100 Merkins, 200 Donkey Kicks, 300 Jump Squats.

Over to the bonus lot for 4 corners: 10 Burpees, 20 HRMs, 30 WWIIS, 40 SSH. Alternate bear crawl and run in between. Back to school and over to railings for Jerkins. 3 sets of 8. Over to the steambath that was the TES field. Partner up for 3 rounds of 8 pullups & pickle pounders. 3 sets of 25 PLTs then back to flag for 3 min of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS: Although the rain last night cooled things off slightly the Gloom was plenty thick. Kind of morning where you can easily sweat out 5 lbs. 1-800 ran to the AO, with his keys. He managed to not lose them while we covered some ground. Good to have Heist and Rosie make the trip north. Although SOJ did not have solid numbers for a supposed takeoever they did send 2 of their strongest to set the pace north of the river. Also great to have Whitesnake back of the IR. You’ve been missed in the Gloom.

Announcements: 3rd F opportunity in the works for Summer Tour participants. Be on the lookout for more details.

Lord of all Hopefulness by Jan Struther

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,

Whose trust, ever childlike, no cares could destroy,

Be there at our waking and give us we pray,

Your bliss in our hearts, at the break of the day.

Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,

Whose strong hands were skilled, at the plane and the lathe,

Be there at our labors, and give us we pray,

Your strength in our hearts, at the noon of the day.

Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,

Your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace,

Be there at our homing, and give us we pray,

Your love in our hearts, at the eve of the day.

Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,

Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,

Be there at our sleeping and give us we pray,

Your peace in our hearts, at the end of the day.
