  • Senor Frog’s Wife

12 young men rolled out of the Fartsack, sharpened their pencils, and achieved perfect attendance at the latest edition of The Hoedown. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the airplane, or the satellite, floating above, the following might have happened:

Mosey to the edge of the horseshoe and the concrete for the COP.

    SSHs x100
    Dead man hang
    Fudd’s Wife, right, left
    Pigeon right, left
    Wilson’s wife
    Senor Frog’s wife
    Hand release merkins
    6 inches
    LBCs x38
    Flutter kicks x30
    WWIIs, in cadence

Mosey to the parking lot arrows. Or, walk around the block. It’s You vs. You.

Round 1: 3 merkins, bear crawl between spaces

Round 2: 3 squats, duck walk or lunge between spaces

Round 3: 3 reverse crunches, pencil roll between spaces (Note: The Handshake claims this as the longest semi-contiguous pencil roll in history. So, we got that goin’ for us.)

Mosey to the Teachers’ Parking Lot for parking spaces. 3 merkins, 3 deep squats, 3 SSHs

    Flutter kicks for the 6

Mosey to the bottom of the little steps. Bear crawl up the 4 long steps…then, 4 options:

    1. Up the ramp
    2. Up the remaining 4 steps
    3. Down the ramp
    4. Down the steps
When going “up,” bear crawl. When going “down,” run. Repeat until all 4 options have been completed.

Mosey to the wall. People’s chair for the 6.

25 donkey kicks to finish it off.

    Mosey BTTVSF for the COT.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

  • Morning Beatdown at Hoedown

Ten determined men showed up in the early morning light at Hoedown for what promised to be a challenging workout. Though my memory is a bit hazy on exactly why I volunteered to Q this session, I’m glad I did!

    The Workout

    Warm-Up

We moseyed down to the bottom of Lindsay to kick things off with our Circle of Pain (COP):

    • Deadman hang
    • SSH x 25
    • DQ x 10
    • LBCs x 20
    • Scorpions x 10
    • Merkins x 10

    Main Event

    Exercise #1: Partner Hill Work

We paired up for some partner work. Partner 1 ran to the top of the hill and back while Partner 2 cycled through bearcrawls, broad jumps, and lunges, finishing with the “booyah” push-up before switching roles.

    Exercise #2: Parking Lot 11s

We moseyed over to the Tuckahoe parking lot for a classic 11s routine—push-ups on one end, sit-ups on the other, running between each set.

    Exercise #3: Hill 11s

Back to the main parking lot for another round of 11s with a twist: backward runs up the hill with push-ups at the top, then regular runs down with sit-ups at the bottom.

    Welcome!

Special shout-out to DTH for bringing a FNG—welcome Gerry to the F3RVA family!

  • Are we meeting over here now?

9 gathered for Hoedown, some confused by lights in the Parking Lot and meeting in a different location, basically a completely new Hoedown.

Grab the (5) Microblocks from YHC’s ‘lil Blue and mosey over to the school lot for a COP.

Mosey over to Bono’s’ Church with the (5) Microblocks and grab (5) of the full size Blocks. Partner up.

Various Block work – P1 carries Block overhead to far side of Parking Lot and Back, P2 does Curls, P2 does overhead presses while P2 does Curls, Mosey lap around the lot. We did this with various exercises for 3 complete rounds with laps. 10 2-Count Boo-yeahs, 10 2-Count Partner WWII’s. Weird Block Handoff that doesn’t have a name yet.

    Mosey back to the lot.

Prayer Requests – Continued prayers for Charlotte, prayers for Bob who is Senor Frogs Father In Law.

Announcements – S-SOJ CSAUP Friday Night. Ruck/Bootcamp/Ruck/Kettlebell/Ruck starting and ending at The Alamo. 8:00-12:00 Friday night.

NMS – solid numbers at Hoedown. It’s nice to see Applesauce and Help Desk becoming regulars. YHC and Plus One had a nice chat after the workout. Plus Ones brother is a in YHC and Faceplants Rats Class from VMI (2009). YHC learned about how Faceplant hung around after Plus Ones first workout at Hoedown because he wasn’t feeling well and wanted to make sure he was ok.

  • Almost darkest

It has been a minute since YHC has Q’d at Hoedown and somehow the bright lights are now always on in the lot formerly known as the darkest AO. 11 strong gathered to kick off the sort of last full week of summer.

COP – wander mosey to the front lot for 15xSSH, 10xDQ, DMH+, 15xLBC, 10xHRM and off we went to West Drive Circle and partnered up for a little Dora

Dora – 100x merkins, 150x superman 4 count, 200x squats. Audible to 100x superman when the Q realized he wanted functioning rotator cuffs later in the day. Wrapping up, we took the long way around to the church lot and hit 3x burpees for every SUV spotted. Subaru’s don’t count and crossovers were a game time decision.

Triple Check – Merkin sliding a coupon underneath, WWII and run the parking lot loop. After regrouping we went to the covered walkway behind the school to belly up to the bar.

Bar – 10x jerkins, 25x PLT, 25x dips then back to the flag for 10x merkins before numberama, namerama and YHC took us out.

Announcements – 7a Mon 9/1 convergence at Dogpile. Prayers for Salt Lick’s daughter and Spine’s coworker.

Moleskine – Great to be back out with y’all after a summer hiatus of travel and being present for time with teenage kids. Until next time, GP

  • Is this a St. Chris field?

A lucky 13 convened for this week’s edition of Hoedown. One would think that last night’s storm would have brought some cooler temps, but alas temperatures hovered around 70 with plenty of humidity.

At 0530, off we went for a short run around the horseshoe and then up to the blacktop for warmup that included:

    • SSH
    • DQ
    • Dead man hang
    • Cherry Pickers
    • Arm Circles
    • Merkins
    • WW2s
    • Flutter kicks

Continuing the warm up trend, we lined up at the end of the blacktop closest to the school for some wind sprints. Run out, touch a line, come back and run a little further. We ran to the end of the music room, then the first basketball hoop, second basketball hoop, and finally the fence at the far end.

With the blood flowing, we moseyed to the upper field, which had sod and an irrigation system added over the summer. The pax was quite impressed with the new field, with one even commenting that it was reminiscent of a St. Christopher’s field.

First up, eye of the storm. 5 merkins in the middle and then run out to each corner for 20 of each of 4 exercises, returning to the middle for merkins. Corner 1 – SSHs. Corner 2 – Mountain Climbers. Corner 3 – Jump Squats. Corner 4 – Carolina Dry Docks.

Next up, a triple check along the back wall of the school. Partner 1 – run across field and do 5 pull ups. Partner 2 – BTTW. Partner 3 – dips.

Mosey back towards the drop horseshoe with a stop along the way for jerkins. The pax partnered up and did 2 rounds of 10 each.

At the horseshoe, another triple check. Partner 1 – run the loop. Partner 2 – donkey kicks along the wall. Partner 3 – shoulder taps.

Then, a short mosey to the small parking lot for 11s. Squats (10) and incline merkins (1). Run across and bernie back.

With just about 2 minutes left, we cooled down with a loop around the horseshoe.

    Numberama / Namerama

Prayers for TES Principal Mrs. Ford fighting breast cancer, Rosie’s Mom starting radiation today, and all the families sending children back to school.

“The nearer a man comes to a calm mind, the closer he is to strength.” Aurelius connects inner peace with power. Calmness is not passivity – it’s focus, discipline, and mastery over emotion. A steady mind can withstand any storm.

    MOLESKIN

During the Ark Loader, YHC was asked which Bear would win a fight, Polar or Grizzly.  While a Polar Bear is bigger and stronger and would likely have an advantage on its home turf, a Grizzly is a more experienced fighter, has longer claws, and excels in striking and jiu-jitsu.  A Grizzly would have a significant advantage outside of the Polar Bear’s natural habitat due to the Polar Bear’s lack of warm climate conditioning.  YHC thinks it is safe to say the Grizzly would win that one, but both would die a quick painful death at the hands of Chuck Norris.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    Prayers for Bob

  • Faceplant loves a good dice game

    The Thang:
YHC rolled in right on time at 0530 to find Salt Lick and an FNG ready to roll. With just the three of us and no set Q, we decided to go with a hot potato.

Salt Lick started things off strong by retrieving a multi-sided dice loaded with exercises—like the Wheel of Misfortune, but more unpredictable. We moseyed to the Tuckahoe Shopping Center, where the dice got rolling. Literally.

Each roll brought something new: karaoke’s, bear crawls, crawl bears, slow moseys—and the crowd favorite (or least favorite?)—broad jump burpees, which Salt Lick apparently willed into existence with a prayer.

YHC took the reins next and we moseyed over to Third Church for some timer-style work:

    • One ran a lap around the lot while the other two did core work.
    • Round 1: LBCs and WWIIs
    • Round 2: Leg Raises and Rosalitas
    • Round 3: Carolina Dry Docks and Squats

From there, we headed back toward the flag, but added a twist—rolling the dice every time we passed an SUV. (Spoiler: there are a lot of SUVs in Tuckahoe.)

Wrapped things up with 5 Minutes of Mary, including some solid stretching to finish strong.

    COT:

    • Welcomed our newest FNG—Plus One to the PAX!
    • Prayers for Salt Lick’s daughter.
    • Salt Lick took us out.

    Naked Moleskin:
Small but mighty crew this morning. The dice didn’t disappoint, How did Salt Lick know that YHC’s favorite workouts are those with a game of chance. Great way to start the day. Welcome again to Plus One—hope to see you back out there soon!
